I have completed my master's in International SCM this year, and during my internship thesis as supply chain planner, I worked at a Canadian Coffee company that sources raw coffee beans from Yemen (war zone). As we all know supply chains are already disrupted during the pandemic, but this specific SC was additionally disrupted by the ongoing war in Yemen. Coffee had to be obtained from the far north of Yemen and to cross an extremely long journey to reach the nearest seaport which was in Oman due to the closure of all ports in Yemen. Tens of challenges were going there and it was a very challenging task to compensate costs at the upstream part of the SC of the company.

With any new business or industry, I always start by looking at the customer service offer. How is current service performance and what impacts that performance. Start there.
I want to open a 3rd party logistics warehouse, with a focus on the Healthcare industry. Who do I speak with within a manufacturing company in order to ship their goods? Procurement, logistics, supplier or neither?
Same answer. The contact will vary from company to company. Depends on size, industry, structure. Could be procurement, logistics, transportation or in small companies the warehouse manager.
I'm startung up a trucking business. Who do I speak with within a company in order to land a dedicated carrier contract with them ? Do I ask for the procurement manager or chief of logistics? What job title makes this decision? My focus is in the Healthcare industry.

@@calebpeterpillay5088 They can be tricky for a number of reasons. Vast SKU range, parts held for older vehicles, tiny parts, big assemblies, and sometimes, crazy fast service lead times. So efficiency is essential!
