After a month of driving and using the W702, I am very happy with it. At first I was a bit afraid of the dimensions compared to the analog display of my 1200GS. But after a while, the larger screen becomes useful and easy to read while traveling.
Really good to see a proper test of this device in some pretty awful conditions. Whilst I think carplay/android auto devices will most likely kill the dedicated satnav market, my issue is the lack of proper apps that you could prepare a route with way and shaping points and actually tour with. Calimoto doesn't work with APC or AA, MRA navigation is just too buggy and unreliable and despite this weeks update it still does not work for me. TomTom go is hard to use as you can't import a route unless you have a laptop, a real pity as I thought that would be the one.
I use the scenic app, haven’t tried it yet but they now do CarPlay version, so over a coffee in the morning you can plan a route on your phone, save it and then it will appear in the CarPlay app .
I also use Scenic. I sent carpuride an email asking if it worked on the device. They sent me back a photo of the app installed and saying they had just tested it and it worked. I have ordered one.
I think we can say it’s been tested in poor weather. Looks like a good bit of kit, as as just been said im also not quite sure what app would suit my requirements. I use Basecamp and a Nav 6. Looks like the Oxford kit is getting well tested too, now there’s a product that’s certainly exceeded my expectations.
Thanks for this review! Just ordered mine. Got it for under two hundred dollars on sale from Carpuride's site. For the price and features it can't be beat. All I need is my music and maps, just like in the car. This seems perfect for that.
Trying to use my mine everyday to do a long term test on it for others on the channel. So far so good. Just make sure you have the latest software installed, send their customer support a screen shot of your software page on the device when you get it. They reply within 48 hours in my experience .
So far it's working great. Just like I'd hoped. I had issues pairing with my Cardo Packtalk Edge but after checking out your other video I was able to find the iCarPlay instead of BTTrans setting and now everything works perfectly. Quick question, have you tried a screen protector to reduce the glare? I was out riding and even with full brightness, the sun overhead really washed out the screen. I have mine mounted to the triple clamp so it's angled a bit more flat than if it were up above the dash. This is on a Versys 650. Was thinking maybe a matte screen protector.@@gsd32i
I’m impressed with these new screens coming out, I’ve just got the new BMW Connected Ride One, which is a lot better then the Nav6. But I think these are going to knock the spots off anything BMW brings out.

I’m going on the bike later and may talk about the suit, helmet and gloves, but at the minute trying to get rid of the crackling on the GoPro when I reach 20mph!
@@DoodleRiderGSA Their are many many outtakes and many many swear words when it goes wrong!!! 😂 Ditch the GoPro !! Or try adjusting the gain sensitivity for the microphone . When I was out on the rain I used some earplug wax stuff to keep all the connections dry. Enjoy the ride. Look forward to the new suit as I am after one as well.
Just checked the carpurides website, and they now sell it with the bmw adapter plate for the gps ready mount. Going to get one, as just back from a 700km spin around NI, and whilst the bmw connected turn by turn is good, i ended up getting drenched twice as i headed west instead of east, and hit the same rainstorm twice 😂

@@gsd32i Cool, let me know what you think as I'm thinking to get the 5" version, as the default position of the BMW gps kit would mean a 7" would hide a part of the dash. With the movable screen, I can't see if I can move the BMW GPS kit any higher.
Actually, the measurements are wider than they are taller, so the difference between 5" and 7" (which is screen view only, as actual measurements are 6" and 8" respectively) in relation to bottom measurement is only 1.2 cm (half an inch). Also the price difference is neglible, just a shame the only order location is U.S. as there will be import tax to pay too.
Jeez dude, didn't know it was you until I was watching the heated hand grips vid, as you have the helmet visor down :D In your opinion, does the navigator gps units get a look in, either ver 5 or 6? Thanks for testing this in the rain too.
😂 I have the zumo xt and it is likely that the W702 will replace it. Neither can be controlled by the BMW whizz wheel, but not an issue for me. voice command works great with my Cardo intercom. It’s just a screen, so no inbuilt gps etc, but again not a problem. Some extra data usage from my mobile phone but that is not much. So, yes it’s probably going to replace the Zuni . 5”or 7” ……I haven’t seen the smaller 5” , may look proportionally better on the GS but I do like the big screen. 😂

Hi. The short answer is no. I have tried before when I had the Garmin zumo to try and get the best of both worlds by using the whizz wheel via a bluetooth connection to the iPhone...but after a short while things started to not function properly and led to lots of frustration....TBH with voice commands with my new cardo pack talk , it works very well and I no need for the whizz wheel for media related stuff. Carpuride e mailed me today and will be sending me their latest product a cradle mount to fit into the OEM BMW unit so that will be going on the bike when I get it.
Hello . There is an on/off switch on the side of the unit so you can leave it on all the time and when the power to the bike is switched on then the unit immediately switches on too and vice versa.

Hi I have a w 702 have you tried driving in the night it has a setting 4 day mode or night mode which you can set automatically this does not work as soon as you turn it off and turn it back on all settings go back to standard settings.
Tough one as I really like the 7" screen. Money not an issue, I would go with the Chigee...but if you have a couple of bikes then maybe the Carpuride as you can swap them over easily . Oh dear...no help!!!🙈
@@renegade1987 5 years, thats nothing, a blink of the eye. The DJI Action 4 IMHO is way better than the gopro. The 3 and 4 that I have, haven't missed a beat with no loss of audio and no loss of files,. Quality is better by some 5-10% in the gopro but I have had enough with them. So it's DJI for me, so easy to use . Only down side is the buttons have no feel to them! Insta360 are sending me a load of stuff and I will be reviewing that soon, from a non tech kind of view. For me I just want to switch it on and get quality footage without worrying about all the fancy settings that others tell you about. Simply not interested in all the specification stuff....anyway keep watching and welcome back to 2 wheels 👍
I am going to see if they will send me the 5” screen . it’s a big screen but I quite like it ….at the moment. you can always turn the screen off and the unit will still do all its stuff etc until you just touch the screen again .
@@gsd32i I bought the 5 inch yesterday. I compared the CHIGEE Aio5 and the Carpuride. And I looked at a lot of reviews. Reasons to go for the Carpuride 5 inch are: 1. I do not need the cameras as they are very large and plastic on the Aio (and I have the Innovv K3 mounted). 2. The Carpuride is removable and the Aio not. So far I am very impressed. I did see some reviewers stating build quality was bad I disagree. It is very good. And i went for the 5 inch because 7 is just too big on the Navarro. But hat is personal of course. I also purchased a Ram ball bar mount with security bolt and a 4 cm arm (instead of the 9,5 cm included with the Carpuride) to fit it to the Navbar. I will fit it tomorrow. Unfortunately the Connected ride app does not have a CarPlay ready app. I do like the nav instructions on the TFT combined with the map on top…….
@@fransvankogelenberg Enjoy. I have asked carpuride to send me then 5" so I can do a side by side comparison , they can only say no! Longer term testing is under way and for me I like the fact that I can swap between my bikes whereas the AIO5 is permanent. I already have cameras front and rear too. I use scenic and I can plan a route in 2 minutes and it's then on the screen via the CarPlay app. Enjoy, keep me posted of any issues, as I want to do a pros and cons video ,as part of the long term test.👍

I think I will take off the ball mount and replace it with an SP-Connect universal mount which I can glue to the back of the Carpuride. and then it sits closer to the nav bar as with the ball mount and is even easier to mount and dismount. I will update here. I do not think I can post a picture in these replies.
Carpuride has released their own BMW cradle connector 39 USD, Ordered that. However I am running into some audio issues (see also @the stammering Biker. I would also like to have the firmware update but I can't find anything about updating the firmware unfortunately............
Honest answer… I really enjoy the scenic app and use it all the time, I can do a route simply whilst sat down having a coffee in the morning and then throw it into my Zumo xt. the calimoto I haven’t got any experience with.

like all these devices you’ve got to be disciplined. screen does have an off/on screen display button, so I guess you could turn the screen display off but still have the unit working , so no visual distraction. thanks for the input these are things I will work into a long term review etc. ride safe 👍👍

Very nice unit. Certainly better than the NAV VI. As I research, I have not come across BMW "Wonderwheel" connectivity.

just went to my local ram mount specialist and purchased a bracket mount and 1inch ball. semi-permanent solution for time being.
Does it auto change to night mode.Ive heard these android/carplay systems don't.

I used a combination of small ram mounts and it sat ok and didn't obstruct the tft.

I sold my nav 6 the other day before they are worth nothing.
Is the mic adapter for the Action 4 waterproof then? as it seems to replace the door on the side of the camera but leaves exposed ports...?
Nope it is not. I have used Macs soft silicone earplugs to mould around the mic socket etc. Purchased off amazon. Those vloggers in the know use it!

I am thinking of buying this device. But the screen is so big on the bike. So thinking of buying the 5 inch. Or would that be a mistake?

Are your gloves touch screen enabled?
One finger is but as they are summer gloves (thin)it worked with all fingers .
Do you know if BMW connected app works?
It doesn’t show up on my iPhone CarPlay section so I guess it’s a no .
