    Well, my grandma still uses her laptop with 2gb ram, she wanted windows 10 and i had to scour local places to get an extra ram stick. And well also had to replace that decrepit 80gb toshiba hdd with a simple kingston ssd. Now she does everything she usually does but without waiting for several minutes to open an app.

      not really. my 8gb thinkpad used up all memory while installing joplin from aur (it was compiling it from source) and i ended up creating a swap space with zram.

    Im kinda late but did you run into any issues with your oled screen? I have an Asus zenbook oled laptop and one of the main reasons why i haven't moved to Linux completely yet is ive heard people complain about oled screens not having proper support

    By far no need for support was the Big Linux and KDE Neon for me and including my students in my computer class in the elementary level. No issues encounter while using it. Ubuntu in the other hand, especially 24.04 had encountered some issues. But Edubuntu 24.04, surprisingly has no issues too. But the previous Edubuntu 23.10 the return was a bit buggy. Just sharing my experience and my thoughts.

      Maybe win 11 can run on 2gb ram or they will release 32bit version.

      @vinylSummer 6 місяців тому

      @@skyhighnightlight the only difference between 32 and 64 bit versions of an OS is that 32 bit one can only address 4GB of ram max and the file sizes are negligibly smaller. Won't make the OS run any faster

    • @skyhighnightlight
      @skyhighnightlight 6 місяців тому

      @@vinylSummer 32bit is much more user friendly. If You have an older system Windows 11 32 bit would work beautifuly even on a 2gb ram.

    hey u can get the fingerprint reader working by compiling libfprint (which is the driver for the sensor) with a patch. or u could just wait till its merged (its request got accepted last month but not yet merged) and when that happens u will be able to use it.

    Most Linux distros run fine on 4GB of RAM. Even bloated ones like Ubuntu.

      They run on 2GB as well, even with swap disabled, or swappiness much reduced. My systems have swap partition = RAM size, but never need to swap.

    honestly i'm surprised nobara didn't find the fingerprint reader, the only authentication problem i've found with linux is howdy, maybe it's just in some obtuse place in the menu

    here exactly for this reason.. fingerprint don't work

    Why don't you game on Linux? Do you play Anticheat games?

      yeah fortnite really being the main one. I do plan on doing like a 30 day challenge of only using a linux desktop for gaming and see what the experience is actually like with a full gaming PC instead of just a mini PC.
