- Please visit my shed building forum at buildashedgara... or my website at www.cheapsheds... for more shed building information. This video will show you how to move a shed across the yard by hand using fairly common items. I have used this method to move up to 12 x 24 sheds by hand. All you need is a jack, a few pipe rollers and some wood tracks. If you have to move a shed across town or disassemble a shed to move it, I have covered both those topic in other posts which you can read on my website, www.cheapsheds....
Just for "who knows" I looked for moving a shed on youtube and saw your video. Took some work and some adjustment to apply to my yard and shed but it worked so well. Thanks.
My husband and I tried your method yesterday and it workrd! We were going to spend $400 for the same company that we bought the shed from to move our shed 40 feet across the yard. Instead, we paid less than half of that cost. We were very unsure that this was going to work, surprisingly it did. In the beginning, my husband did not want our 15 year old son and me to help with pushing. The result is that the shed moved--- but slowly with just my husband pushing. When my son and I pushed alone nothing happened. With the three of us combined the shed moved with great speed. Do not under estimate the power in extra help for pushing. We referred to your video many times!!! Thank you!
Great idea using a jack frame. I need to make some for my farm jacks. I have used farm jacks and 4 x 4 posts to life cars up off the ground when needing to drop an engine from a front wheel drive vehicle. The instability caused by using the farm jacks by themselves has always been a harrowing experience. That problem is now solved thanks to your idea of using a stabilizer frame.
I’m in the process of purchasing a home and there is a shed planted smack dab in the center of the back yard. It’s placed in an awkward spot in my opinion so I asked if was possible to move it and everyone said, no. Then, I saw your video. Ah ha! I knew there was a way. Once I close on this house, that shed is getting rolled on over to the corner. Hahaha! Thank you so much for being thoughtful and sharing this!
I've seen 100 of these 'How to move a shed' vids, and YOURS SIR, is the best one out there! GOOD JOB!
You've watched 100 shed moving videos? Jesus Christ your life must be boring.
Lmao @watched 100s of shed moving videos.
Absolutely great video. Thanks for your help! I was considering a similar plan, but your advice added to it very well. Thanks again for sharing your experience. And...The gratitude you mentioned (to friends/helpers) is a sweet touch. You Sir, are a gentleman and a scholar.
We've moved a couple of chicken coops in a way much like this. We had access to 15' lengths of 9" pole. We did not use tracks and used an atv in front of the coop for forward power and a pickup secured to the rear in case we needed some braking power. Worked very well.
Praise Yah! My sons & their families just helped me buy a nice 5th Wheel to live in > AFTER the 8'×12' RTO wooden Shed is moved (aprx. 35ft.). I've been wondering if/how this could be done & Lo & Behold! You've answered this Question > I'm So relieved! Thanks/ Prayers/Blessings 👵❣️
Thanks so much. This is so encouraging and will help us get to the next step in our yard plan!! You sound like a very nice person.
My gosh! Like millions of people, I use you tube all the time and even have some videos of my own on my Bo Booly channel although they are not useful and mostly stupid/funny. As a former home improvement contractor I can do almost anything when it comes to construction. A few years ago however I purchases a house with a shed on it already but I want to move it. Thought about some of the ideas here but never once did it dawn on me to use 2x stock for tracks! Incredible!!! Something that seems so easy and logical never once crossed my mind! This is a fantastic video and I highly recommend it to anyone that wants to move a shed on their own. I can hardly wait to do it and feel so much more confident about doing so upon having watched this a few times. Nice job - you covered everything in a very well thought out and straightforward approach.
Great video. No superfluous info. Right to the point!
Excellent video! thank you. Our crapy County is telling us that our shed is too close to the property line so I have to move it 3' for them to get off my back.
Thanks so much! I just moved an old shed like a pro 😊
Excellent idea :-) We had a couple of 12x23ft sheds built on a concrete pad (not secured yet) - recent storm upended one (right across back garden), after shunting the other sidewards. Trying to figure out how to shift back using car-dollies etc - this looks much easier ! Will give it a try asap - have wood, need pipe-rollers.
Thank you! Clear explanation in voice and caption, w excellent picture examples. I can do this…
Great video - making wooden tracks is a brilliant idea, and I will give this a go!
Thank you so much for the tips. Just moved mine today 8-25-19. It worked very well much more easier than I expected and only spent 80 bucks for 6 pipes from Lowe’s which I will return for a refund. Thanks again for showing me how to do it.
Cooper you’re returning a product you used?
@@pcobrea I know people who do that. It's a bad move.
What type of pipes you got? pvc or metal and what size?
I got to move my shed due to a nosy neighbor and the town of Bayshore.
Thanks for the info I'll try to apply this method and see what happens
Going to attempt to move my 8x10 shed this weekend with your recommendations.. wish me luck! Will be back to record how it went 😅
Thanks. I need to move a 10 x 12 shed, and this is what Ive been looking for.
Did you end up doing it, Randy? If so, how'd it go?
@@semiprolific774 Well yes and no. I was able to move my shed close to the final position, but after a lot of prying and bending , i decided to have a buddy with a crane set it into its final spot. He could tell me what it weighed, and asked me what I thought it was, I said 1200#. Nope, wrong.....4800#! Now I know why I bent my pry bar. Thanks for the help.
@@randymcdonald1419 thank you for the reply! I have a shed that's probably in the 10x12 neighborhood that I need to move as well. I've gone back and forth with whether to leave it where it stands, try to move it back ~15 or so ft, or just demolish it.
I have some invasive bushes between the shed and the back of my property and plan to clear those out late this fall...then try to put the shed where they used to be.
This is genius. Thanks so much for the tutorial video. Very helpful!
This worked perfectly to move a chicken coop. Thanks so much!
Great instruction and video quality! Thank You! Now after seeing that type of jack you showed on the video It seems as if it will be easier to use than our bottle jacks that kept sinking into the yard..
Moved like an Egyptian 😎
Very useful video! I have to move a small tin shed 8 ft x 6 ft and now I don't have to hire anyone. Thanks!!
Iwanted to see it all in Videos not words💯
Great video 🎉thank you very much
Great video Sir!. I can see that you finished this project a while back but I was hoping to find out more about placing a shed on a trailer. I didn't see it on your website. Thank you Randall
Thank you so much for information
I was thinking this. but I needed to lift the garage up with bracing and bottle neck jacks...Thanks for great workings....forex
Awesome video 😄 very easy to follow
Great video. Thank you.
Really good explanation.
Great video, thanks!
thank. i was brain farting and you cleared it up. I understand everything and I like the part when you said to return anything borrowed and thank your friends… I was just wondering if you knew or know where I could get some of those? Those “friends” things that you’re talking about?
great video! Just what I needed.
Thank you sir very helpful
You ARE THE BEST BKESS YOU I SWEAR
Thanks for the help!
I appreciate the video with your clear instructions. Will this work for a metal shed as well as a wooden shed?
Outstanding video! I plan to use your method to move a 6x13ft redwood shed about 15 feet. The new location is about 1 foot higher. Should we transition with a slight slope in the ground or raise and block the shed higher before moving?
Thank you for the very nice video Sir!
Thank you! Awesome!
Thanks so much 🎉
This is great as long as you don't have to turn it.
He literally explains how to turn it in the video
What about when your sheds skids run parrallell to the fence and you want to pull the shed straight out away from the fence!?
Well done sir!
great video thanks!
Great info!
love it. thank you
What about jacking it up and putting tires on the skids? Then just either tow it with a truck or a power mover of some sort?
I've considered using rear wheel bearing hub assemblies off a FWD car. Just go to a junkyard and buy a couple. Would likely need to weld some flanges onto a long piece of pipe to run under the shed, attach the pipe to the skids with u-bolts and basically make it a trailer. I suppose you could even find an old house trailer axle? Even if you had to cut it and extend it to make it wide enough, if the shed is empty, wouldn't have to be terribly strong. Could even attach a hitch to the axle. Make a big T shaped dealio. Keep the wheels just behind the center so it has some tongue weight.
Hello...I do have a Tuff Shed (12x10) that I have to move a total distance of 5 ft. I'm looking for a jack almost exactly like the one in your video, that one looks like it would be quite stable because of a wide (3 or 4 ft) base. Would you know if I would be able to rent such a jack, or was the one in your video custom made? If rentable, what would be the most likely name that most people would recognize in describing it? Thanks in advance....John
I don't think it possible with those weak aluminum beams at the bottom of the shed. I have the same problem. Were you successful?
Thanks for the video! I need to move my shed about two feet forward, but the two under-shed rails are not running in the direction I need to move the shed. Do you have an idea how I can use a similar technique with the rails running side to side?
If you are just moving it a short distance you can put a temporary skid, 2x4 or 2x6 or even pipe near each end, in the direction of travel. Then use a 2x4 to pry the shed in the direction you want. Move one end a few inches, then go to the other end and move it. Keep going back and forth till you have reached your goal. The temporary skids will get it up off the ground and out of the dirt so it will move much easier.
I have a bigger shed, should I get bigger metal pipes for rolling?
Build the pyramid next
No help if the shed is NOT on concrete
thanks,
What size pipes?
Iv got all the supplies to move the shed except the last one, friends ☹️😂
Note: DO NOT ATTEMPT AFTER HEAVY RAIN.
Could you direct me to the video that shows how to disassemble a shed. I have Morgan shed that I want to move and I can not move it assembled due an existing structure that is too low for my sheds height. Thank you.
I don't have a video on disassembling a shed but I have this post: www.cheapsheds.com/how-to-disassemble-a-wood-shed-to-move-it/ that will hopefully answer your questions.
How long do the rollers have to be?
worked for the egyptians making the pyramids so it should work for us.
The pyramids were made by aliens. Please get your facts straight.
@John Smith
Stop being so rude! If you know so much, why are you here?
I was wondering if you can send me the link So I can buy the pipe to move a 12×24 Im confused onto how much weight a pipe can hold without building or not being able to roll.
I used regular 2 inch water pipe in this video. There are several things you can do to avoid binding and make the move smoother. 1) Use a wider track like 2x6's instead of 2x4's. 2) Use more pipe rollers spaced closer together. This is probably the best option. 3) Use at least 2 inch pipe. Anything smaller will not roll easily. You could even use large pvc pipe (6-8in) if it's heavy enough. Larger pipe reduces the rolling friction. 4) Add more skids if possible, like at the edge of the shed if it doesn't already have skids there. This will allow you to use more tracks on the ground which will spread the weight.
Thanks-very clear, I only wish you speak-slower so I can write down the-directions--Better than that--it would be FANTASTIC if you would POST THE ENTIRE SCRIPT on the page, so I could watch the video while at the same time reading your script. That would make it soooo much easier to get the information! THANKS
Don't forget you can slow it down in the settings
It's hard to move it over trees and buildings in the way.
Easy
who can I contact to do this? as I do not have the tools. Thank you!
Call a local excavator company or call a shed making place. The shed place have specific trucks for this.
What is the frame around the farm jack for?
+Jaime Alonzo That is to keep the jack from falling sideways. I also use that jack to lift sheds to move them and it otherwise would be very unstable at 2 or 3 feet off the ground. So the triangle keeps it stable even at those heights.
Cheap sheds .com,I appreciate the response. You showed me something today.I thank you for that.god bless you
I need my shed moved. Are there anyone that can do that for me and how much will you charge?
Some tow truck companies move sheds. But make sure they have experience otherwise they can tear it up.
Ok.. thank you for the information and the advice. Have a Bless day!
@@CheapShedsDotCom Is it ok to just put cement blocks under the shed to lift it off the ground or do I need the cement slab?
For lifting and blocking cement blocks are fine. For the final blocking I recommend 4x16x16 mobile home pads if you can find them. They are usually available at lowes or home depot.
I just used a hand truck.
Wheres the action??
This wasn't a video, it was basically a PowerPoint presentation with audio.
Yeah, I agree.
I was hoping for some CGI and very advanced computer animation. Also wanted to see a film, kind of like you would see at the movies with some plot and character development
This guy should have hired a director and a professional film crew. What he did here is just unacceptable!
mmmm? sounds easy, but for a hundred bucks or so, id call a shed comp.
They usually charge $250 not $100.
@@lindahoff3354 Here in NC closer to $500. They don't want to move yours. Want to sell you a new one.
Nice video but is barely audible
Turn your volume up. It's not rocket science.
Good luck spending less that $300 that is the lowest price i could find.
get a job
Common household items.... Errr NO its Not. Not in the UK anyway, I mean really who has Metal Piping, Jacks and Timber planks just laying arounf the house. Come on now Get real.
How can you not being a DIY homeowner?
Have a 8x8 wood 🪵 shed and need to move it 2-3 feet what is easiest way ? And can it be done with out emptying out the shed ?
That depends on how much you have in it, how sturdy the shed is, how solid your ground is, and if you have a good jack. Give it a try by lifting one end of the shed. If that goes well lift the other end. If you can lift both ends and the shed doesn't bow excessively then you should be able to get the runners and pipes under it and move it a short distance without too much difficulty.
Great video! Thank you
