If everyone quits buying them they will be forced to lower prices and find cheaper ways to build them if need be. In the 80's a vehicle was less than half the annual income of an individual. Now they are twice the "household" income. Meaning 4X Harder to afford.
Less than the annual income? how much do you make a year? I definitely can afford a new year model every year if I wanted to, I trade about every 3 years because I get the most value that way. Yes trucks are ridiculously expensive, but some of us can actually afford them. That said, it would be nice if the prices went down, but I don't see that happening any time soon.

“Up to” 20% off MSRP… yeah…. The buyer is probably required to have an 800 + credit score, be a Vet, college grad, have one blue eye and one brown eye, trade in a dodge/ram product and be able to recite the Greek alphabet backwards while doing a hand stand to qualify for that.
Would bending over backwards , handing over an arm and and leg, an ear, skipping rope backwards with eyes closed, climbing Mt.Everest without a jacket help?
I think there is some serious pain ahead for these manufacturers and dealers. Granted, the manufacturer's probably deserve it for producing these ridiculously priced vehicles.

I love it when they put "up to 20% off" They aren’t just going to give you that 20 percent. No no no…there will be a bunch of bullshit prerequisites to qualify for that 20%. And even if you get the full discount somehow, you’re getting a vehicle that is so marked up that you’re still overpaying by 40%. Stop buying these cheaply made garbage trucks.
Their prices are still absolutely bat shit crazy. No matter what they do. The only thing that will change it is for them to fail and start actually marketing to people again.
My company just traded in 2019 dodge classic 1500 for a GMC truck. Back then the dodge only cost about 30k CAD. Now we are getting 2024 GMC, 2.7, 4 cylinder, basic model with 4wd, $57k CAD for sticker price. That's crazy.
What’s really happening is people who shouldn’t be buying these trucks are financing them at ridiculously high interest rates and thats when they realize they can’t afford them! A friend of mine who works at a Chevy dealer is seeing repo men actually show up at the dealership to take possession of these trucks when they are being serviced! As long as stupid people keep paying these ridiculously high prices for cheaply built trucks they will continue to rip people off! Also there is a Dodge dealership next to my friends Chevy dealership and they have at least 50 brand new unsold ram trucks some as old as 2021 AND THEY ARE LITERALLY STARTING TO RUST JUST SITTING ON THE LOT!
Yeah the host of this channel doesn’t seem to understand supply and demand very well. Prices will come down to “normal” again when suit and tie lifetime city dwellers stop thinking they need a Raptor to get laid in Chicago and LA and are willing to pay $110k to do so. Back in the 90s “when trucks were affordable and reliable” SUVs were all the rage and had all the markup while bedded trucks were still reasonable. Then we started a 20+ year war and suddenly all these non-serving soy boys decided they needed to do something to “look like a man” so they started running out and buying brand new pickup trucks that don’t have a scratch in the bed and growing out operator beards and 20 years later here we are - a new fairly base model F-150 will run you $65k and instead of auto manufacturers focusing on reducing prices for traditional trucks they’re all focused on developing more expensive and less reliable battery-powered toy trucks that nobody wants but the government says we have to have.

Hey, just my opinion but ive seen dealer auctioning off high end trucks at the dealer auctions to pay the bills. They would rather take a large hit at the auction than sell a customer a fairly priced truck because they FEAR it will start a price landslide.
It's coming as long as everyone refuses to pay these ridiculous prices. Honestly 80 percent of the population can't afford to buy a new vehicle at the moment

Agreed. We've seen such inflated pricing that we'll likely never see true value again. Trucks with the same engines as 2019 are what, $20k or more higher and are essentially the same truck!? I’m confused. Somehow you’ve posted the same video every two weeks for like a year. If you could state the differences or trends or something that gets updated every time so we can see what’s changing from week to week that would be great. I tune in and it’s like, “look at all these trucks, I’m shocked. This one is $100k, this one is the only one at $40k” and that’s kinda the whole thing. Some 3rd party group trend data, avg days on hand, stuff like that would be a huge help so we understand where it’s going instead of every title card saying everything is falling apart and then it’s so similar to the last video. I like what you do, but it’s always the same video imo
I'm definitely working on other videos beyond this style. Those just take more time. I tried going deep with data a few times and those videos just don't get many views. Blame peoples short attention span I guess.
@@MotorFeed-- I, for one, am happy with the coverage, although I do wonder about these same issues with vehicles that aren't trucks. (I saw an e-Transit sitting on Lithia's lot the other day -- I wonder what its prospects are in January.)
The dealerships have shafted its customers for the last few years to the point they're no longer buying and now they're backing prices down. Too little too late. No one forced them to make outrageous markups and customers are saying "No more".
My limit for a 1/2 ton truck is about $40k 4x4 is about the only thing that is not negotiable, but otherwise basic trim is totally fine. I really don't get any practical value out of a $30k interior and $15k in trim, wheels, exhaust tips etc.

Glad I put motors in two of my old trucks I'm not seeing any thing good coming from coast to coast. I'm done.
It's not just the pricing. The interest rates now a days are sickening. My 21 Ram is financed at 2.9% but to upgrade to a 2500 I would be looking at 10+% interest. That's insane to me, especially when I have a boat at 5%
Those interest rates are there to try to bring down prices. The idea is, if people find it hard to pay for these expensive things, then supposedly prices will come down to meet where the customer can afford. But companies have been holding out just hoping for some sucker to pay full price.
When I was young trucks were used for working. But in the last few decades it became popular to have four doors, backseats, and a small bed so pickups could be used as sedans. Gas prices have receded for now but people have learned that using pickups as sedans is a huge waste of their money. They are moving away from owning pickups, especially if they never need one. The carmakers are adjusting to that by making small pickups. Forget the vehicle prices, the days of using large pickups as sedans is over because of gas prices.
I am so glad I bought my 2019 Colorado lease for the buyout in 2022. I have so much equity and will have it paid for in December. Unless it is totaled in an accident, I don't see buying a new truck anytime soon.
Here in Georgia during the start of the pandemic new cars were actually selling under fair value. My brother got a 2020 Camry LE for $21,500 cash $3,500 special discount

I think the amount of electronics and the engineering needed to repair any of the current vehicles out there, the prices are still way too high. I would only consider buying something with plastic engine parts if the price were cut in half AND if the replacement parts were cheaper. We need to start asking the sales person how much a replacement alternator will cost us before agreeing to buy a vehicle. I would also demand a way to wipe data stored in the vehicle after it downloads my data from my phone.

Good having you back in Boise again! On the Chevy trucks you should call out the motor size, of either the 5.3 or 6.2. When I bought my loaded Ram Limited in 2021, I first went to Peterson Chevy as they gave us $10,000 off a loaded 2020 Traverse Redline Edition Premier model. They had about a dozen nice loaded Silverado's, but not a 6.2 on the lot, nor at any Chevy dealership in the Tresure Valley, so I got a killer deal on a nice Ram instead.
Who can afford this over prices bullshyt?? I remember when you cound get a truck for around 35 grand and it was loaded!! This was like five years ago. the average person only makes around 40 grand a year now so who can buy a 60 grand truck?? answer...... no one!!!
It's a very simple concept. No one is tired of anything. When wages are stagnant. Car prices increase. Folks are upside down in new deals. Within a 5-10 year span, car sales will plummet. Very few folks have the financial resources to get another vehicle.
I've been looking for a used Chevy truck and from what I'm seeing they have a serious frame rot problem starting about the 2000 model year and newer . I've noticed most trucks regardless of manufacturers have body rot issues too . Over priced garbage is an understatement.
Bought a ‘22 Ford F-350 from the factory in 2022 for $75k out the door (at MSRP - best deal I could find). I was at the dealer for some routine service a few weeks ago and a ‘24 350 with an almost identical build-out was listed at $92k before TTL and warranty. Dealer told me they weren’t doing much negotiation either. The cost was already insane 2 years ago and I wouldn’t have bought my truck if I didn’t need that specific build. Can’t imagine paying this much more now.
I talked to a couple of salesmen recently. Both told me, with a straight face, that trucks were still flying off the lots. When I asked them how much they made in commissions in December, they kinda went silent. I asked what they themselves had made to date in January. Again, silence. Not sure either of them had sold a truck to date this year. I smiled and walked away.
Always bought new trucks since the early 1980s. Last time was in 2015 F-150 Platinum: 65 grand; the same as my late wife’s Benz. Ridiculous, and it’s even more insane 9 years later. I will keep this one and rebuild it over time as needed.
These dealers are out of there minds thinking anyone wants to or can afford to buy a 110k truck lol, I bet they end up eating 70% of what they have right now unless they drop the price below 70k on the trex or 50k on the others 😅
About 6 years ago I bought a 1988 F150 XLT Lariat with a C6 automatic and a 351W with fuel injection. $1300. It needed a lot of mechanical work and I put about $3000 more in it and quite a bit of my labor. I think another $5000 or so and it will be quite nice. Good looking, comfortable, and powerful. Does everything I need it to do for under $10,000. Can't imagine paying $100,000 for a pickup.
At the dealership I work at . The other day the tech that does inspections on the new and used vehicles before they go on the lot he pulled in a nice red f-150 lariat and the price was $73,000!!. I couldn’t believe it . Who’s gonna pay close to 100k for just an F150!?!? Espically when in like 3/4 years it will probably only be worth 30/40ish if it’s decently taken care of . I remember when $70k would be for like a F350 Platinum dually fully loaded every option you could get on one and even that I think is crazy
I have come to the conclusion that Myself and the people watching these videos are the outliers. I make pretty good money but there is no way I am going to spend 70k plus on a truck. Its just a tool to me. But for others its a status symbol. As the grills reach sizes that are larger than they were on 1970s mack trucks..... so do the payments.... and Americans love em. To each there own I guess. For me they are just tools. I like a nice restored classic truck, but just something you drive off the lot that everyone else is driving..... no pride in that for me. So Im just not going to buy one because people must still be buying them and prices arent going to come down.
I was driving around downtown (midwest city) and noticed a huge line of brand new pickups lined up handle-to-handle in a little side lot. Given the amount of overstock around here I'm guessing that's what it was. Not D.O.T. trucks either. Down in Louisville they had to pull a bunch of Ford trucks into storage.

As bad as folks hate the prices on new trucks.. i personally understand it .. these trucks don’t come with just a stereo and a steering wheel anymore .. it’s all tech, a big screen with phone connectivity, safety features.. what was once luxury is now on base models, it’s only natural prices will rise, u can’t expect to pay cheap for a base model truck that a few years ago wouldn’t be a “base model”… manufacturers know that forever making the same junk, basic truck from the 90s would get overplayed and people would hate them for never upgrading … but with upgrade comes a heftier price tag, it’s life..

“Up to” being the key words. For you and me that would be 5%. Only unicorns get 20%.

They can write off the loss on their taxes.
Selling them at auction hides the true condition of the auto industry from the public.
@@MotorFeed Oh crap, thats also very true. what a sad state the auto industry is in

The dealerships have shafted its customers for the last few years to the point they're no longer buying and now they're backing prices down. Too little too late. No one forced them to make outrageous markups and customers are saying "No more".
Back in 2020 you could get a new Ram HD 4x4 tradesman diesel carpet/ chrome tow package for $38k after discounts at places like Dennis-Dillion.
My limit for a 1/2 ton truck is about $40k
4x4 is about the only thing that is not negotiable, but otherwise basic trim is totally fine.
I really don't get any practical value out of a $30k interior and $15k in trim, wheels, exhaust tips etc.
Manufactures only sell basic trim to fleet dealers. You can get way better prices there...

But companies have been holding out just hoping for some sucker to pay full price.
that Maverick is there because Ford advertized them at $19,995 and the dealer has it at DOUBLE that price!

These trucks youre featuring aren't trucks at all. Theyre minvans with a box on the back.
Basically.
Last october they had 6 mavericks at one dealer in Weatherford TX but they were asking $25,000 for them which was a $1,000-$2000 premium.
The bad thing is that those 60 to 80 grand Ford F150s still come with that POS 10 speed transmission that Ford refuses to address.
If there’s a discount on a way over the top price it’s still a bad deal.
I am so glad I bought my 2019 Colorado lease for the buyout in 2022. I have so much equity and will have it paid for in December. Unless it is totaled in an accident, I don't see buying a new truck anytime soon.

Saving on the current Msrp prices means nothing to me. Msrp is so inflated as it is.My 2019 loaded XLT, FX4, 3.5 EB, max tow 6.5 foot bed was 39k. 2017 STX was 30k OTD
