- Dr. Rodney Wynkoop conducts the Duke Chapel Choir, the Duke Vespers Ensemble, and the Evensong Singers in the premiere (Sept. 29, 2016) of Dan Forrest's setting of The Church's One Foundation (AURELIA), commissioned by Duke Chapel, for the Celebration of Music honoring the re-opening of Duke Chapel. This hymn was performed at the original dedication service for Duke Chapel, so this new arrangement was commissioned for the re-opening service. Accompanied by Amalgam Brass (amalgambrass@gmail.com). Sheet music for choir, organ, optional brass and percussion, all published by Beckenhorst Press, April 2017. www.beckenhorstpress.com

Surely one of the top ten church hymns of all time--words AND tune. Millions of Christians are not learning this great music, in church or Christian radio OR Christian (or secular college.) I'll be 80 next month. I'm so thankful that my hearing is still sharp AND I have UA-cam. Apr. 2, 2024, St. Joseph, MO, USA
86+ here! Like you, I appreciate my blessing of hearing and sight. Praise God from whom ALL blessings FLOW!
Yes beautiful
oh-----the angels paused their singing to listen to this. And then they joined in. The church triumphant sang along. oh.....
I agree whole heartedly with all the comments concerning the great hymns of the church. What a heritage, I wonder how many contemporary worship songs will be heard in several centuries time, As for this hymn the arrangement is absolutely brilliant, wonderfully sung and played. Thanks be to God
Glorious truth, what a wonderful Saviour is Jesus Christ my Lord. He bought us with his own precious blood and he is coming again for us his church amen.
1 The church's one Foundation
is Jesus Christ her Lord;
she is His new creation,
by water and the Word;
from heav'n He came and sought her
to be His holy bride;
with His own blood He bought her,
and for her life He died.
2 Elect from ev'ry nation,
yet one o'er all the earth,
her charter of salvation,
one Lord, one faith, one birth;
one holy Name she blesses,
partakes one holy food,
and to one hope she presses,
with ev'ry grace endued.
3 Tho' with a scornful wonder,
men see her sore oppressed,
by schisms rent asunder,
by heresies distressed,
yet saints their watch are keeping,
their cry goes up, "How long?"
And soon the night of weeping
shall be the morn of song.
4 The church shall never perish!
Her dear Lord, to defend,
to guide, sustain, and cherish,
is with her to the end;
tho' there be those that hate her
and false sons in her pale,
against the foe or traitor
she ever shall prevail.
5 'Mid toil and tribulation,
and tumult of her war,
she waits the consummation
of peace for evermore;
till with the vision glorious
her longing eyes are blest,
and the great church victorious
shall be the church at rest.
6 Yet she on earth hath union
with God the Three in One,
and mystic sweet communion
with those whose rest is won.
O happy ones and holy!
Lord, give us grace that we,
like them, the meek and lowly,
on high may dwell with Thee.
OH MY GOD! Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Such POWER in the traditional hymns of our church. May we never forget tradition. From Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. Amen.
Those who seek the one true Faith, should embrace the Faith with the best hymns, like this one.
Yes indeed. We must teach our children these meaningful hymns NOW! “As the twig is bent, so grows the tree.”
'By water and the Word.' Please, Washington National Cathedral, keep the Word coming. We need it in these increasingly difficult days.
Magnificent worship to our Eternal God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
I was married here, in this exact spot (the choir chancel) in 1970, in an all Bach wedding put together by my husband-to-be. This brings back incredible memories, and the music is so comforting in this time of uncertainty and fear.
This world is passing and it's lust. There is nothing else to cling to except the Solid Rock.
viewed this again today, 50 yrs to the hour that I was married here. Still Remarkable.
Louise, my name is Donald Mayer and I live in Coplay, Pennsylvania. I'm 62 years old and have been blind since birth. I hope you are still happily married after all these years. My wife and I were married 28 years. My wife passed away on December 3, 2016. Louise, this is a beautiful hymn. My mother was a church organist for many years. Have you ever listened to organ music and hymns from Washington National Cathedral? Louise, that music is so awesome you would not believe it. Louise, have a great day!
Don Mayer so sorry for your loss. Have you heard Justin Kauflin play piano? He’s blind, has a UA-cam channel and is coached by Quincy Jones. His brother is a priest and Justin is Christian. Do you know about Eric Whitacre Virtual Choir6 called Sing Gently? Check it out too. God bless.
@@deewayland2246 Well hello there. Dee, that was a very nice reply. You made some great musical suggestions. Well Dee, I've got some for you. Have you ever heard Michael card sing? Dee he has so much great music you would be overwhelmed. For example, listen to Michael Card sing New Jerusalem. Also listen to him sing Immanuel, Behold Now The Kingdom. I think you will find that song to be beautiful. Also you may find beautiful music from the Washington National Cathedral. One song from there is I want to walk as a child of the light and King Of Glory king of peace. Also, Twila Paris sings Hold On and Meredith Andrews sings I look to the king. Now how's that for some music that will keep you entertained. If you want to talk to me my e mail address is baptistdon@ptd.net with no capital letters or spaces. I really hope you enjoy the music I mentioned. Dee, thank you so much for your reply. You are very nice!!!
To God be the Glory!
Magnificent arrangement by Dan Forrest!
I always enjoy these wonderful hymns that are our Christian music heritage. They are ageless.
Excellent performance of a majestic arrangement of a glorious hymn. I love it; truly inspiring. Thank you Duke Chapel.
I love absolutely everything that Dr. Dan Forrest writes. I got know his music in Baton Rouge (LA), at the First Baptist Church. Now, back to Rio de Janeiro, as the pianist of the First Baptist church, I play several of his arrangements.
I long for the day when there is a composer better than Dan Forrest. I long for that day. But since that day is probably a long, long way off, I will continue to be blessed by each and everything he composes. He could write "Mary Had A Little Lamb" and make a masterpiece out of it!
Beautiful arrangement for both choir and musicians!! So inspiring and so true to our current day. Let us keep faith and hope and love alive in our daily lives despite this pandemic! GOD BE PRAISED !!
This is overwhelming...I'm getting goosebumps. God's love, God's Church... it's all God. Thank you for sharing this arrangement 🙏💖😇🙏🥰🙏
I must agree with Andy Waynick...one of the best and most powerful arrangements I've ever heard in 80 years of church music! I will definitely be pushing for our church to get this and, I too, look forward to being at the organ when this is performed. Wonderful. Thank you for posting this wonderful arrangement!
And soon the night of weeping shall be the morn of song. Hallelujah.
Without a doubt, the most powerful version of this great Hymn I have ever heard. Our church will eventually be getting it, and I cannot wait to play it
A marvellous rendition of a most wonderful anthem.

@@DanielGonzalez-up8sh You ok?
@@reezachity3075 I've seen that profile spew hateful demonic things before in videos such as this. Best to just ignore the posts and pray for the lost soul.
@@mannfan12 Yeah.
The church is one foundation under Jesus Christ our Lord!
Just absolutely breathtaking. I will not be surprised if God calls for an encore performance before his throne when we are in heaven - with the Church's One Foundation literally officiating over the performance! Glory!!
Fabulous reharmonization of the last verse. If this is just a glimpse of Heaven, I’m ready. Thanks be to God for His kindness to us in Jesus Christ!
Excellently delivered.
Simply awesome!❤
One of gods favourite hymns .sung well
Uplifting , Praise be to God.
This arrangement of this Great Hymn of the Church shook me to my core.
Yes, it's pathetic.
One of my favorite Hymns!
ANYTHING Dan Forrest arranged or composed is GRAND AND MASTERFUL! Oh boy, how I wish I could meet him someday for music composition pointers!
As I speak my words of wisdom go to hell
"Though with a scornful wonder we see her sore oppressed....." Such a relevant verse that is now alas missed out off many new hymn books!
There is yet another verse that is sadly omitted
"The church shall never perish!
Her dear Lord to defend,
to guide, sustain, and cherish,
is with her to the end;
though there be those that hate her,
and false sons in her pale,
against both foe and traitor
she ever shall prevail."
This is the kind of great arrangement this hymn deserves..,grand and glorious!! Oh, how I miss playing this on our Rogers organ!!
Your music, Dan, gets you straight to the heart. I just finished singing your Te Drum with my choral. It touches the sole You young man have a heavenly gift.
*The church is one new creation and Jesus Christ her Lord !*
MY Lord! Hallelujah!Praise His Glorious Name!
Such a powerful hymn inspired by the Holy Spirit is so moving to me even now in my mid-70's. From my childhood this music gave me a sense of the love found in the Church. I still find myself tearing up when I hear it. And in contrast, so sad, is the garbage they are singing in so many churches today.
I agree. Rock crap doesnt quite cut it in the spiritual realm.
Wow. God be praised.
Uplifting! This hymn is legendary!
How relevant to every generation! Amen 🙏
Yet He on earth hath union with God the three in one, and mystic sweet communion with those whose rest is sure, o happy ones and holy, Lord give us grace that we like them the meek and lowly on high may dwell with thee, amen
4000 gift eye bags packed and go to f****** hell
On a small scale, this is what I imagine heaven to sound like.
“With his own blood her bought her...” glorious, humbling truth.
Indeed..the music is only there as accompaniment to these great and timeless truths
and for her life, he died.
@@DanielGonzalez-up8sh Where you'll be going. Without a doubt. Rot in torment.
In view of that, it is deeply humbling that we find such pleasures in worldly things.
@@nancyhobson9710 Did you mean 'Humbling' or 'troubling'?
Absolutely Glorious!!!! Tears!
Absolutely beautiful, truly a scene of worshiping God in Spirit and Truth!

Magnificent.
An important hymn sung and played with The Understanding.
This is beautiful. My dad passed away a few yrs ago, but when I listen to this, I close my eyes, I hear his voice.... cannot control the tears flowing.
Overwhelming!
The only thing that dies is the body, not the person. If your Dad is in Christ, he is with the Lord forevermore. In joyful elation.
I agree. This is the Gospel of Jesus Christ in one hymn.

Why not, people? The divisions are crippling us all. We need Jesus and nothing but...I do admit
A great song of revival.
Fantastic performance!
@Nicholas Moore Hello to you as well! 🙂
Pure worship.
Oh my God
You are awesome
A triumph. Reducing instrumentation to just the timpani for the second "A" of the Amen, just brilliant.
Yes. and the 32' stops in the pedal of the organ bring it home at the end.
Very nice arrangement, majestical!
A stunning arrangement. I am looking forward to directing this piece with our church choir and orchestra.
Sublime!
Just so wonderful, carr on the great work, Thankyou
🙏 God Bless the world
Beautifully done.
Fantastic rendition !!!
Beautiful hymn and well done, but sadly, it was the closing hymn that was sung when our beautiful Methodist Church was deconsecrated in 1965.
@Paul Beduhn Sad to see people like that spewing their venom. When he stands in judgment before the Lord Jesus Christ one day soon, he will be on his knees begging for forgiveness (but it will be forever too late) -- unless he repents. It is the amazing grace of our Lord that even one as vile as he can be washed clean if he will only repent and believe!
Wonderful~
What a thrill !!!
