You are the perfect blend between rahdo and watch it played with Rodney. Sometimes I want to get a feel for the game and know how it's played. Then you have to watch 2 videos bit this is the ideal mix! I also very much love the notation in the top right corner to skip to the part which you want to learn. Subscribed. These kind of videos are fantastic
You made a game of daunting complexity easily understandable. I love the way you not only explain what can be done, but also clearly state the reasons behind the sample actions you take . Thank you so much!
Get OUTTA here. Not joking, I literally just setup a solo game of Gaia Project to learn the game, navigated to my subscriptions, and BOOM, this video is here. Great timing!
I wanted to share that you have the absolute best channel for teaching games on UA-cam. The effort you put in for editing, production, explaining, are top notch. I hope you double your subscribers this year. Keep it up and thank you.
I tried to learn the game from the digital version tutorial and was like huh? Then I tried to watch a 15min video tutorial and was still huh? It was not until I committed the time to this excellent tutorial that was able to play a game against the AI and mostly understand why I was losing :-) Thanks for this great video.
Fantastic video Jon. I read the rules and watched a couple of “how to plays” for GP. While these are great for rules they don’t give you a clue how the game actually plays - this tutorial was grand. Looking forward to the extended play though!
Very clear and thorough tutorial. Every time you listen to Jon you get the distinct sensation to be ready to play the game and this is a ver y good sign. Thank you for the explanation!
Thanks you so much. As I love playing this game, it gives me a headache that there's no good tutorial video for them to watch, but this is over until yesterday!
Aside from the great, clear tutorial and many examples by playing what's really underrated are the time stamps. Especially for looking up rules. That's what keeps me coming back to the video because mid-game I can easily look for an example in the video because it's easy to find. Thanks Jon keep it up. Maybe a tutorial for clans of caledonia? Might be up your ally
I'm glad you find them useful, I do occasionally wonder if the effort is worth it since my metrics don't show any real impact of them from a watching perspective. That being said I've always wanted to see them in other videos and after 6 years I consider them to be part of my brand so I don't think they are going anywhere :P What I really wanted to happen was other BG creators to realize they are a good idea and do them as well so that I can use them when I watch their videos. I'm surprised they haven't caught on, they really don't take that much extra time. Probably ~20m per video.
Do u still have to either build a tech building or spend QIC together while flipping over the fed token to get advanced tech tile ? or do you simply just flip over a fed token alone? How about advancing over to lvl 5 tech tree? do you still need to "advance" together with flipping over?
I will celebrate the patreons, once they ask for an 8 player Twilight Imperium 4 Playthrough with Expansion. (That will hopefully exist at that time.) It will be fun for everyone but One xD. The political Bickering between Jon and Jon or Jon and Jon will be of epic proportions.
Very nice and good play-through! I enjoyed it a lot! Thx! A little note, not that it really matters, but the QIC stands for 'Quantum Intelligence Cube' and not Quantum Information Cube :D
Jon, this is such a great vid. I like how this game plays, but I like the “look” of Terra Mystica a lot more. Seems like the iconography is great, I’m just not a fan of the look.
Small correction: at 10:00 you say 1 minus amount charged. This is backwards. You lose points equal to amount charged minus 1. (Really appreciate the video!!)
I wish reviews would always start with an overall structure of the game as a whole. I find it hard to remember details if I don’t know where they belong in the overall structure. Like “In Isle of Skye players secretly bid for two land tiles out of their three available land tiles. Upon ended auction each of the sex rounds concludes with scoring points for all land tiles placed according to the current rounds point scoring criteria.
Interesting feedback, I'll consider it for sure. It doesn't take much time to do a brief overview of the flow and generally I just say "there are 5 steps" instead of briefly saying what they are. I'll keep this in mind for sure.
At 18:42 you say that there's 10 different planets and 8 can be built into but there's actually 9, the lost planet is a type that counts for such bonuses but the purple planets turn into Gaia planets and can therefore never be built on.
Since you can never built something onto the lost planet I considered it "not buildable". I know it counts as a mine for bonuses, but felt that in general it's true that only 8 of the 10 types are buildable.
That'll depend on what issues you had. I find Gaia to be more my preference, and I talk about all this in great detail in the review I made a couple years ago: ua-cam.com/video/DappMkZeu5Y/v-deo.html
Do you write out a series of turns before filming in order to enhance the flow of teaching? Some of the turns seemed to perfectly lead into the next one lol
If you are asking why I'm doing a playthrough for a game that came out in 2017, well that's because it was requested by one of the contributing producers of the channel at patreon.com/jongetsgames :)
They don't have any innate abilities like the Taklon's do, but that icon in the top right of their board shows that they start the game with one step up on the terraforming research track.
This is the best Gaia Project tutorial on UA-cam by a long shot
Thanks!
This video was clear and concise. I appreciate being able to watch your videos to access more complex games!
Thanks!
Your playthroughs are literally the best on UA-cam. Never stop making them, please.

Bless the contributor that requested this haha. Thanks for making this, Jon!

Ha, well that's a great coincidence! I hope you enjoy it.

This is always wonderful to hear, thank you :)
It is so satisfying how all these complex game mechanics mesh so perfectly with each other. A true masterpiece.
The best Gaia Project tutorial I've watched so far. Thank you!
Jon, this is one of your best tutorials. It's a very systems-heavy game, and you made it look super accesible. GREAT job!
Thanks!

I am so freaking excited about this video. Thanks Jon you’re the best.
Your playthroughs are the best because of the pacing, editing, camerawork and generally good decision-making. Great stuff!
Thanks so much for the kind words Daniel :)

@@JonGetsGames i understand. Hopefully it earns you Soms extra subscribers :) Here's hoping that other youtubers also start doing it! Cheers
The digital game came out, despite the game coming with a tutorial, this is what eventually helped me with understanding how to play.
Do u still have to either build a tech building or spend QIC together while flipping over the fed token to get advanced tech tile ? or do you simply just flip over a fed token alone? How about advancing over to lvl 5 tech tree? do you still need to "advance" together with flipping over?
Good job Jon, i learned so much from you watching you explain those games. Who need rulebooks if you have Jon.
Another great tutorial done correctly.....keep em coming!
Great explanation for a complex game
Thanks for the thorough clarification!
Great Tutorial, quite time effective and without redundancies, could not be done better imo!
Thanks!
Great tutorial playthrough :) love it and it helped me a ton to grasp the rules 👍
Your teaching style rivals that of Rodney's! Great job!
One of my favourite games! So nice to see you cover it :)
As always a very nice a clear tutorial.
Thanks for this very very informative video to get started in Gaia Project

Your supporters have great taste. Now for the new terra mystica expansion.
I hope you do DUNE.
absolutely awesome explanation of rules..thank you!
Got this for Christmas. Now I know how to play, subbed and liked :)
Very nice and good play-through! I enjoyed it a lot! Thx! A little note, not that it really matters, but the QIC stands for 'Quantum Intelligence Cube' and not Quantum Information Cube :D
Thanks for yet another brilliant video!
This tutorial is so good! Thanks!
Awesome playthrough, thanks a lot!
I just got this game this week!!!! Ty so much for the video ::checks to see if supporting patreon. Yes. Yes I am::
Nice! I hope you enjoy playing it and thanks for the continued support!
Brilliant tutorial. Thanks.
nice job! your reviews are so helpful!
Jon, this is such a great vid. I like how this game plays, but I like the “look” of Terra Mystica a lot more. Seems like the iconography is great, I’m just not a fan of the look.
That makes total sense. I would love a game right in between the two mechanically and I could take either art/theme personally.
Those playing pieces look like chocolate!
So we'll done.
Jon Gets “Teaching” Games
perfect! thank you so much
Small correction: at 10:00 you say 1 minus amount charged. This is backwards. You lose points equal to amount charged minus 1. (Really appreciate the video!!)
Good catch, thanks. Glad you liked it :)
So, he’d have lost 2 points?
I wish reviews would always start with an overall structure of the game as a whole. I find it hard to remember details if I don’t know where they belong in the overall structure. So it's Terra Mystica... IN SPAAAAACE!
But does it fix the issues that TM had?
That'll depend on what issues you had. I find Gaia to be more my preference, and I talk about all this in great detail in the review I made a couple years ago: ua-cam.com/video/DappMkZeu5Y/v-deo.html
Do you write out a series of turns before filming in order to enhance the flow of teaching? Some of the turns seemed to perfectly lead into the next one lol
I almost never write them out, but I do frequently plan several turns ahead to try and teach things in a good order.
Discarding power tokens for satellites means the power tokens go back to the 1 zone, the green zone or off the player board????
Qq - discarding power to put down satelites means removing them entirely or placing them in first box? Thanks!!
Unfortunately, it's been too long since I played this game to remember the rules enough to answer your question. Sorry about that!
Bro, I don't know if u have a video about it, but what are ur top 3 solo games?
Playing games solo is just not an interest I've had, so I don't have anything really to say about that part of board gaming unfortunately.
@@JonGetsGames Hi Jon, just wondering if this has changed in the last few months considering what's going on in the world?
does Geodens gain 3 knowledge for Gaiaforming a Transdim Planet?
Unfortunately, it's been too long since I played this game to remember the rules enough to answer your question. Sorry about that!
I think you forgot to account for the cost of building a mine when putting one out as the Taklons at 10:00
Hmm, I looked at that timestamp but I'm not seeing the issue you are mentioning.
wow... why so late with play through? its the game of all time :)
yeah comes quite late
If you are asking why I'm doing a playthrough for a game that came out in 2017, well that's because it was requested by one of the contributing producers of the channel at patreon.com/jongetsgames :)
18:16 do they get those immediately? or income phase..?
During income.
cheers!
What is the Geodeon's innate ability?
They don't have any innate abilities like the Taklon's do, but that icon in the top right of their board shows that they start the game with one step up on the terraforming research track.
nice
Am I the only one who thinks the Taklons tokens look like chocolate?
Think I'd rather just play Terra Mystica.
I get that. I personally prefer the tech tracks in Gaia, but wouldn't say not to TM.
