So like a decade ago (back when the internet was still cool) I took a random video of a cute kitten I was playing with, uploaded it and sent the link to my friends to show them how cute it was, and then forgot about it. Ten years later, the youtube algorithm grabs it and now it has 15 million views? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ For some context: This was in the office and under the direct supervision of a veterinarian (that's her foot you can sometimes see at the top of the frame). The veterinarian was a friend of mine who knew how much I loved kittens, and had called me to let me know they'd had a partially feral pregnant cat turned in by animal control and that the cat had given birth. She invited me over to start playing with the kittens, to help get both the kittens and the mother socialized and accustomed to people until they were old enough where they could go to their forever homes. Both the kittens and the mother were under direct veterinary care for their entire weening period, and once it was safe the mother and the kittens were all spayed/neutered. The kittens were all adopted out to local families, and last I heard they all had very happy lives spent spent napping in sunny windows and occasionally chasing after laser pointers.
I think the fun thing about the UA-cam algorithm is that this happens a lot, especially with animal videos. Theyre a timeless art. I don't think cat videos are ever gonna be out of fashion on the internet. And I am thrilled about that.
Actually it's more about the baby giving a distress call - when they're THAT little they can't manage their own body temperature yet so they call out for mom and siblings to warm each other ;)

I don't think so, the cat would have retrieved the kitten whether the human was there or not, I don't think the human got blame, she just wants them all together so she can feed them. In fact I think she'd have gotten the kitten faster if the human wasn't there. She was very hesitant.

I just want to point out the interesting fact that 1. The mom instantly perked up upon hearing her kitten meow and that 2. the kitten immediately stopped meowing when momma picked them up. Instincts are so amazing.
Cats have a nerve at the back of the neck that if you scrunch it they will be paralized so their mom can transport them easier. That's why the kitten went silent immediately when the mother cat bit the neck. It's usefull to know as a cat owner too since it can help calm them down when they get too upset. It makes cats feel safe.

@@Giratina575 yup. It's a survival instinct. Kittens body becomes relaxed and limp so it is easier for mom's to transport them. Made it easier when they had to relocate in the wild vs. having a kitten not be relaxed and being too much of a handful. Many species are easily able to transport their young in this way or the baby grasping on. That's probably why people invited baby wearing :) keeps baby calm and makes it much easier to move around and more easily forage.
I had a cat that would bring me the "problem kitten" whenever she needed a break from it. It was hyper-active and wouldn't let the rest of the litter sleep. Of course it was a couple weeks older than this one.

My female used to do this. She was spayed when we adopted her so she was never a momma. But when we adopted her 2 brothers, both abandoned by their mom, she was a momma to them. Once they were cleared of any leukemia or other issues, she loved them like her own. She would clean them, cuddle them & take them from me as babies when she thought I had enough time with them & it was her turn. We lost her about 10 months ago. The boys are 10 but they miss her terribly. The youngest still doesn’t clean his own face because she did it for him everyday. When you clean his face, he cries like he still misses her. 😢 I know how he feels…

They would even "take back" someone else's kittens. We had two cats give birth just days apart and they steal each others' kittens lol. Their mother instincts kicks in when they hear the crying. It came to a point they dont know which were their own babies. In the end, they just ended up taking care of them in the same place and nurse them there.
It's very common amongst feral cats to raise the babies as a colony! It's safer, and this way there's always someone to take care of them when another cat hunts :)

Yeah, you obviously shouldn’t take them at a young age, but it doesn’t seem like they were going to. I see nothing wrong with them making revenue off this, because they didn’t do anything wrong. Except maybe touching the kitten while it was so young. Anyways, my cat would have a litter, and we’d take the babies at a good age to start getting them on dry/wet kitten food, and then usually give them to the neighbors that wanted one. Kittens are simply the cutest thing in the world.
I just want to point out the interesting fact that 1. The mom instantly perked up upon hearing her kitten meow and that 2. the kitten immediately stopped meowing when momma picked them up. Instincts are so amazing.
Cats have a nerve at the back of the neck that if you scrunch it they will be paralized so their mom can transport them easier. That's why the kitten went silent immediately when the mother cat bit the neck. It's usefull to know as a cat owner too since it can help calm them down when they get too upset. It makes cats feel safe.

@@Giratina575 yup. It's a survival instinct. Kittens body becomes relaxed and limp so it is easier for mom's to transport them. Made it easier when they had to relocate in the wild vs. having a kitten not be relaxed and being too much of a handful.
Many species are easily able to transport their young in this way or the baby grasping on. That's probably why people invited baby wearing :) keeps baby calm and makes it much easier to move around and more easily forage.

My female used to do this. She was spayed when we adopted her so she was never a momma. But when we adopted her 2 brothers, both abandoned by their mom, she was a momma to them. Once they were cleared of any leukemia or other issues, she loved them like her own. She would clean them, cuddle them & take them from me as babies when she thought I had enough time with them & it was her turn. We lost her about 10 months ago. The boys are 10 but they miss her terribly. The youngest still doesn’t clean his own face because she did it for him everyday. When you clean his face, he cries like he still misses her. 😢 I know how he feels…

They would even "take back" someone else's kittens. We had two cats give birth just days apart and they steal each others' kittens lol. Their mother instincts kicks in when they hear the crying. It came to a point they dont know which were their own babies. In the end, they just ended up taking care of them in the same place and nurse them there.

Yeah, you obviously shouldn’t take them at a young age, but it doesn’t seem like they were going to. I see nothing wrong with them making revenue off this, because they didn’t do anything wrong. Except maybe touching the kitten while it was so young. Anyways, my cat would have a litter, and we’d take the babies at a good age to start getting them on dry/wet kitten food, and then usually give them to the neighbors that wanted one.
