Very familiar with that hanging idle issue you are having. My DRZ400E uses the same carburetor and it had the same problem for a long time. That's from the idle circuit being lean or leaking air essentially. You can get midbody gaskets for those old FCR's from AllBalls and that is usually the fix. Or it's something with the throttle plate leaking. Which eventually happens when the body of the carb wears out. When these carbs are working properly they do work very well so I think fixing that is worth pursuing. Also the suspension is probably shot given the age and that's probably worth redoing as well. Anyways, congrats on getting that old clapper running.
You are bang on...I did vacuum plate and mid carb kit....still hanging idle ...I just learned that the wheels on the slide grind grooves in the carb body.... Frank MX makes a kit to remedy this
@@Hunters-Garage Yep, that's exactly how my DRZ was. When cold it would want to idle about right, get it warm and it would idle fast most of the time, turn down the idle to be correct at that moment and ride around some and the next time you stop it would stall.
I’ve owned a countless amount of dirt bikes in my 61 years breathing and hands down, the 426F, is the absolute biggest piece of cow dung I’ve ever owned/ridden.
Totally agree with that. Had to try anything and everything to get it to start the first time to tune the carb after that tho it was 2 twists and then kick never giving any when kicking
This is my first 4 stroke that I’ve worked on this deep. I didn’t think the cam chain was to bad other than tearing it apart because it looked fine was tight and moved good when it was back together but I will look into it. Thanks
Yea I figured that out after the fact since there was a handful of people to comment on it I did some research and now I know. I plan on replacing a few things and talking about a few things in a part 2
I had a YZ400F - it was a disaster - tough to start and parts where hard to come by, when you put in the camms I saw the auto decompression and straight out knew it was a 426, when setup properly those things are aggressive as all heck - they can even take on a 450 in the right hands. Something I noticed, you should replace that cam chain as soon as you can as it most probably got a beating when the valves took a tumble. Good job so far and good luck - 4strokes are a lot of money to rebuild and maintain.
It has the aftermarket hot cams in it, by passes the de comp and starts easy like a two stroke, with those cams, the bike is pretty much a 450 now. 44:30
@@Hunters-Garage In a heads up start a 450 will kill that bike . For one that bike is probably 30 pounds heavier than even the early 2000's bikes . @@Hunters-Garage probably. I was just saying i wouldnt be too worried about yanking a bit. Its usually overtightening that damages threads. You got it done either way anyway, so it dont matter in the end.
It all depends on how beat up the bike is honestly. I’ve had one that I bought cheap and fixed in 1 day for 60$ and there is one that I’ve had for over a year and have put over 2000$ into.
No throttle when kicking these bikes. Choke in, kick until it starts, wait to hear the engine idle down a bit, choke off, let it warm up or ride gently untill you feel it breathe. Then rip all day

@@Hunters-Garage yeah I bought a warrior had a broke frame, locked up, broke case and all kind of stuff I got it running and only have like $600 in to it right now

That timing chain is toast
A bike like this, in that condition, would sell for 2-3000 USD here in Norway... Great find!

Always check rings before putting cylinder on
I pretty sure I checked them before just not on camera
I use a hose clamp to compress the rings. it works.
