You may have missed it because you were having a flashback brought on by wall decorations, but it's this exchange after Egon mentions his parents "didn't believe in toys": Ray: "You mean, you never even had a Slinky?" Egon: "We had part of a Slinky, but I straightened it."
I think the change with less sexual humor comes from the popularity of Saturday morning cartoon series The Real Ghostbusters. The movie tried to be more in line with the tone of the cartoon show, which had already been running for several years and became the method in which most kids were familiarized with the Ghostbusters. Bill Murray was also dissatisfied with the film and his experience making it. He felt that a sequel was unnecessary, but signed on after reading the script. However, he says that he was given a totally different script once production began, and he felt like he was deceived. So if he seems less funny in this movie, it's because he genuinely didn't want to be there. Murray would go on to refuse any involvement in another sequel after Ghostbusters 2, stalling the series for decades.
They took over a lot from "The Real Ghostbusters". Janine looked alike in both movie and show, Winston didn't have a mustache in II (just like the cartoon), Slimer had a whole arc with Louis trying to catch him with a proton pack, which mostly was cut from the film with its ending being changed. Initially Loius wouldn't have arrived at the museum before it was all over, because he had a lengthy conversation with Slimer on the bus and they buried their respective hatchet. Coincidentally, in the same year, Season 5 of "The Real Ghostbusters" would introduce Louis to the cartoon and they also use the mood slime in an episode to acquire temporary ghost powers (it was yellow on the show though).
Even though this movie did not so well with the critics (and some fans) i have a special place in my heart for it, i really like it. And can we appreciate how great Peter MacNicol plays Dr. Janosh Poha? His awkwardness, weirdness and creepy vibes are amazing combined with his funny way of speaking and comedic mannerisms. I love him.
That isn't even the B tier of childhood trauma films of the era. I can name at least a dozen movies that featured toys and toylike objects slaughtering people...
Yeah. ReAnimator and Cannibal Holocaust were Gen Z's Disney channel. Faces Of Death our sleepy time tea. That's only so Polyester and Cruising could be reserved for family night. To quip, 80's parents couldn't have ruined our lives: they were never there.
One reason that the more raunchy elements were turned down was that between the first movie and this movie there was a very successful cartoon series based on the property called the real Ghostbusters. All it was a lot more mature in its early episodes than a lot of kids shows it's still introduced a lot of younger people to the franchise.
:fun fact the slime is a mixture of cornstarch, water, and something else you could actually make it at home with food coloring. Also at the dinner scene when the three come in to meet Peter and Ray gets excited and slings, slime all over that lady, the man at the table that she is having dinner with is what Dan Ackroyd refers to as the first.”ghost head” meaning super fan of Ghostbusters. He was the first person that created his own homemade Ghostbuster costume by going to the theater multiple times and committing to memory what the packs looked like. Then when the movie came out on VHS he bought a copy and would pause the movie every time the packs were in Plainview. He ended up doing some promotional work for the movies and was offered this cameo in the film.
I love how the villain is banking on new yorkers hatred to empower and revive him, yet the very first scene shows he's going to fail. The movers literally drop everything to try and stop the baby carriage.
I would assume they went back inside the SOL on her side there outside the museum, re-slimed her again with their slime blowers & piloted her back across the Hudson to her island after the New Year's crowd cleared out. Egon was always my fave too, from the first movie, through the cartoon, and to this one. I adore the second movie, but to a lot of fans it just rehashes a lot of the beats from the first movie. Which is valid, but this one is just fun for me. It was the first one I was able to see in theaters and I wore my Real Ghostbusters (the cartoon series) suit and proton pack to the movie. Speaking of The Real Ghostbusters cartoon, *that* is likely why a lot of the sexual humor was toned down in this one. @@kaiielle they originally wanted Eddie Murphy and when they couldn't get him for whatever reason or he dropped out they cut the character down. Not cool but he was still so memorable with what they gave him in both films.
Personally, I don't think anyone anticipated the first Ghostbusters movie to be so popular with kids at the time. Of course they capitalized on that right away with a ton of merchandise (clothes, toys, etc...) and a Saturday morning cartoon "The Real Ghostbusters" which ran from 86-91. That's probably why this sequel was slightly more family friendly. Also, a great Rick Moranis movie I highly recommend: My Blue Heaven (1990)
The merch was mostly RGB. The legality over using the name for the first film prevented a lot of merch prep. Posters, books and clothing was basically it.
Fun fact: In the German version of the movie, the baby was named Donald instead of Oscar. Because Germans wouldn't get the joke with the hot dog, they changed it, so instead Peter says something like: "Oh no, he has the same name as a duck."
Cool reaction and dialogue - This is my favorite Ghostbusters in the franchise (Saw part 2 in theaters as a kid (part 1 as well, lol), and FELL IN LOVE with the Ghostbusters "aura" - Instantly became a lifelong fan).
One thing you should look up here are the full commercials that the Ghostbusters air in both movies. The first one is exactly as it is in the film, but you can get a better look at some subtle little jokes, like Egon looking for his marks and the expression on his face in the last shot, which is laugh-out-loud funny. The full commercial for this movie is even better: it was originally conceived as a teaser trailer, but never finished, and the full commercial has some deleted moments (including another amazing little bit with Egon) that ought to have been left in the finished film. 🗽
The original edit of this film before previews and general release included a few scenes that got cut from the final film. Immediately after the scene where the Ghostbusters investigated the Vigo painting at the museum, there was supposed to be a scene where Vigo possesses Ray as he drives back to the Firehouse. Ray drives recklessly in an attempt to kill the Ghostbusters and the scene ends with him crashing Ecto-1A into a tree before he comes out of the possession. Some of the footage shot for that scene was re-purposed into the montage scene near the middle of the film. Then near the end, the Mayor and his assistant (he hadn't originally been fired) show up at the slime-encrusted museum. Similar to the first film, there is a scene of Ray telling the Mayor that if he doesn't do something, he would be remembered as the man that let New York be sucked down into the 10th level of hell. The Mayor's Assistant - still positive the Ghostbusters were frauds and trying to make the mayor see reason, goes up to the museum door with the intent to simply walk in and diffuse the situation inside. As soon as he touches the slime, he is sucked in. However, he would later be seen singing and swaying with the crowd as the Ghostbusters emerge victorious. All these deleted scenes made it into the comic book adaptation of the film, which was drawn in the style of the Real Ghostbusters cartoon series that was still airing at the time. The popularity of that cartoon series was the reason Slimer had to be included (more a cameo than an actual character) in this movie. Parts of these deleted scenes can be seen in the first teaser trailer for Ghostbusters that was released around the Holidays 1988. One thing I doubt you noticed (few do), as the Ghostbusters emerge from the courtroom, the female DA that was carried out of the room by one of the spectral Scolari brothers is sitting to the side of the door, being treated by EMS, and smoking a cigarette as if - typical of the 80's - she just had "a good time." I guess that didn't age well.
Not entirely wrong, but one note is that I believe it's still up in the air whether or not the actual crashing of the ECTO-1 was ever filmed. Part of the sequence is still in the movie, when they run a red light and Peter looks concerned, but the actual crash has never turned up in any collection of deleted scenes or outtakes on any home video release to date (people were really hoping it would be on the 2022 Ultimate Collector's Edition box set, but it wasn't). All that can be said for sure is that it was in the script (which the novelization and comic book were based off of) and part of it was shot. The Mayor being sucked into the slime is among the deleted scenes on the various DVDs over the years, along with all of Eugene Levy's scenes as Louis' cousin Sherman Tully, and lots more of Louis messing around with Slimer. Another scene that seems like it was definitely shot but still hasn't been found: the conversation the Ghostbusters have about the Statue of Liberty at the ceremony scene during the credits of them returning her to her pedestal.
1989 was a big summer for movie sequels. This. Karate Kid 3. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusader. My family moved cross country. We took a train from Chicago to San Francisco. I had the Scholastic Books kids novelizations of all three and read them on the train.
Great reaction. I love when people get these movies. And you are so right, it’s not even the stories. It’s just seeing those characters. Those actors. So many people like the busting, and that’s cool, but me I love seeing these actors together, being friends, solving ghost “crimes”(is that the right word? “Ghost mysteries”Sounds a little scooby doo). I wish they would’ve made more of these. I know they technically did years later but never with this same cast and it’s not remotely the same. Cheers for the great reaction.
I love this movie. Peter MacNicol is amazing and he also cleans up well as an evil spectral nanny. Gen Y over here missing Ally McBeal and Harvey Birdman. If you don’t know the second one, you definitely have to watch- especially if you’re a fan of old Hanna Barbera cartoons
I will go to bat for Ghostbusters II any day. Yeah, not a huge fan of the Statue of Liberty ending, but… …I honestly think there are more jokes that land in this film than in the first one. The one-liners come fast and furious and most of them are home runs. Ghostbusters is still the better film, but II is right there. Never understood why people disliked it.
Same! I've always through that this movie has better one liners and a slightly tighter script. Could also be due to nostalgia. The movie rental place at my town only had Ghostbusters II when I was a child, so we rented it like ten times before I actually got my hands on the original.
Basically we were disappointed that it was a carbon copy of the first and neutered to cater to the kids...who became fans WATCHING the first, ironically.
One of the major flaws with the movie is that Vigo has no established rules whatsoever. If he can leave the painting without the baby, why does he need to be reincarnated in the baby? Why can't he just possess someone like he does Ray? Why is he harmed when the Ghostbusters blast the corners of the painting with the proton pack? Etc. etc. Very sloppy stuff, but what can I say, I still like it.
My favorite movie as a kid. We taped it off HBO and I watched it a billion times. When I was a kid in the theater, I thought Vigo's face superimposed over the baby looked like George Bush Sr.
So Excited that you loved this movie! Growing up around when this movie came out, I'm pretty sure they lessened the sexual humor because it became a very kid friendly franchise especially because of the cartoon and toys. At least that's my thought of it.
As a kid this was the first time I ever heard someone say a year in the next century. The next was Back to the Future 2. And it was two thousand something not twenty something like we were saying nineteen in the previous century.
34:10 I had to go back to see if I was really hearing Caravan here. That really threw me! LOL! note: I only know the song because of Whiplash. Great movie.
Fun fact: the Dr in the psych ward is bill Murrys brother Brian Doyle Murry who is also the mayor of Punxsutawney in Groundhog Day, which also stars Bill Murray
I have seen this movie *countless* times (probably close to 80-100 or more times), and this is the first time I've noticed and realized Winston was seen at the beginning of the trial. (I guess he was an employee while Ray, Egon, and Peter are owners.) But he disappears for the rest of the trial and isn't seen for trapping the Scolari brothers. zOMG.. Other thing I just noticed.. At 30:18, when the slime first starts covering the entire museum, those are the opening notes to The Shing! Has that always been there?? Or is it just a musical replacement for like copyright purposes..?
When the woman predicted that the world would would come to an end in 2016. Well, it kinda did. That's why we got ghostbusters: answer the call instead of ghostbusters 3. 😂
I'm so glad you enjoyed Ghostbusters II. It really didn't get a lot of love when it was first released but I'm glad it's finally getting respect after all these years. Two down two to go. Next is Ghostbusters: Afterlife then the latest in this series. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire
Fun fact: you mentioned that the sexual humor was toned down in this film. It was an active decision because at the time that this movie came out the animated series. The real Ghostbusters was a huge hit on Saturday morning cartoons so not to cause any type of issues, they cut back on the Ghostbusters doing things such as smoking, swearing, and sexual suggestive situations. I am a bit of an aficionado when it comes to this franchise
I had friends who worked security for the movie The Ice Harvest which Harold Ramis/Egon directed the film. There was so many pranks on actors and extras. No one got sleep. Harold said The Ice Harvest is his favorite film he directed. I grew up in Illinois where the film was filmed. I worked for the security company years later and I worked on the show Prison Break. We went to Woodstock Illinois for a filming scene for the day. We car pooled with each other. When we got to Woodstock Illinois and downtown. I seen the area and when getting out of the car I see the town. I recognized it and I said to myself it’s Groundhog Day lol beautiful town. I heard Harold was the kindest person. Billybob Thorton was a kind person from what my friends say. John Cusack is a ahole. John grew up in Evanston Illinois half hour from Chicago. I grew up in Gurnee Illinois which is 45 minutes to an hour north of Chicago depending on traffic. I don’t live in Illinois anymore. One of my favorite Harold Ramis films is Multiplicity with Michael Keaton and Bedazzled with Brendan Fraser and Elizabeth Hurley. Both funny movies
22:30 If you haven't already, take a quick research into Kirilian photo imagery. Both its history, process and results are fascinating, even if not actually supernatural (a stance I decline to comment upon).
Dont get why this movie gets so much hate. Its sillier but i love the movie. Its got really funny lines and you can tell a lot of Bill Murray's lines are just him ad libbing. I saw it when I was 8 but even as an adult i still laugh at the lines, even more so now that i get more of the meanings and context.

The second movie wasn’t as strong as the first one in my opinion. But it’s still a fun time if I’m being honest for what it is. I love the og ghostbusters crew and seeing the same actors work off each other. If theres anything that’s this movie’s strength it’s how well it still nails and understands the characters personalities. I use to watch both movies back to back as kid. I know you’re only watching the movies, but I think you should check out the cartoons as well. Extreme Ghostbusters doesn’t get enough attention, and personally I think it’s way better than the rest of other sequels that came out. Especially for being a passing of the torch kind of deal. Definitely check it out if you can.
This movie gets more hate than it deserves. While I do prefer the first one, I'm certainly not in the "Ghostbusters 2 sucks" camp. I've always liked this one. Now, as for Ghostbusters 2016? Hmmm, well... I think everybody's gonna say "you should skip it" but I think you should check it out. I'm always curious what people think of it. For me, I was kinda disappointed. I really wanted to like it. Strong cast, but it didn't quite land for me.
If you ever react to Groundhogs Day, (BTW- It's amazing and I think you should if you haven't seen it), it stars Bill Murray and it's Directed by Harold Ramos ( Egon). Unfortunately, they fought so much the movie destroyed their friendship until days before Harold Ramos passed away.
Egon #bestgirl I saw gb1 when I was… 10? The sexual jokes kiiiinda went over my head and/or didn’t register much with me. I knew how to easily ignore stuff that wasted time between good parts. :P
As fun as it is, the sequel was a sharp downgrade in quality due to studio business decisions. They wanted to aim the movie at a much younger demo for the sake of merch and toy sales, which meant ditching the complex mythology of the original in favor of a more conventional "evil ghost story." It doesn't seem like you're dropping in on a whole world, just watching an episode of a sitcom. Characters are extremely Flanderized (caricatured), even though it's only the first sequel. Kind of a sad misstep.
I saw this in the theater, and I enjoyed it, but not as much as the original. I remember one of the movie tie-in’s was from Hardee’s, and it was a Slimer Sunday. It was just some vanilla soft serve with a green “slime” on it, and it was one of the most god-awful things I’ve ever eaten. That green whatever-it-was was absolutely disgusting, and nearly vomit-inducing. 👻👻
Yeah, enjoyed this one a lot as well and I really don't know which one I prefer. I've seen the 4th Ghostbusters movie (liked it okay), but not the 5th. I watched about 20-25 mins of the 2016 film and didn't even finish watching it. It's not because it was an all-female cast, but I don't know how many fart and poop jokes one can make in a short amount of time and it was just too much. I just felt like the whole movie was going to be poor writing. Also, I already saw the direction they were going with Chris Hemsworth's character and was annoyed. (dumb male and always butt of the joke) epididymis - A narrow, tightly-coiled tube that is attached to each of the testicles. Slime - edible mixture of methylcellulose, polyacrylamide, and anthem gum.
So a bit of a Funny, the guy that plays Vigo had a very ... well no offense to him... lame voice. But he had the look. So he was Dubbed over with someone that sound more intimidating.
The voice was Max Von Sydow, he played Ming the Merciless in Flash Gordon and the Brewmeister in Strange Brew. I can't remember his character's name in The Force Awakens, he gave Poe Dameron the disc with the map coordinates.

The merch was mostly RGB. The legality over using the name for the first film prevented a lot of merch prep. Posters, books and clothing was basically it.
My parents took me and some friends to see it in theatres for my 6th birthday. It was the 80s. No fucks were given. But it really wasn't that bad.
I still remember ecto cooler...
Fun fact: In the German version of the movie, the baby was named Donald instead of Oscar. Because Germans wouldn't get the joke with the hot dog, they changed it, so instead Peter says something like: "Oh no, he has the same name as a duck."
Based on reactions I've seen, most Americans don't get it either.
Editor, nice touch with The Shining music.
It WAS The Shining music. Thank you. Cheers, mate.
Also, in case it wasn't totally clear, that woman's fur coat was made of real fur, and the slime brought the foxes it was made from back to life.
I love Annie Potts
Yeah, not a huge fan of the Statue of Liberty ending, but…
…I honestly think there are more jokes that land in this film than in the first one.
@@cbuchner6862
I get that. Comedy sequels back then were often just rehashes of the original plot with a slight twist.
Well we who were kids still liked this one too. Kids aren't nearly as nitpicky
Never understood how Vigo can lock the darkroom but can't stalk an infant without help. It's fun, though, and I'm glad you liked it!
The darkroom had photos of him which probably gave him a conduit, the baby's room didn't have anything Vigo-related.
Funny thing is the guys did not actually go down to the sewers, they found themselves in a train tunnel.
They did say something like "sewers and subways."
Awesome reaction! You’re so beautiful and funny and you truly put a big smile on my face for the entire video. 😃😃❤️❤️
This movie is peak ghostbusters for me. I enjoyed your reactions very much, thank you @kaiielle !
My pops had the soundtrack and i would routinely bump it!
Fun fact: the Dr in the psych ward is bill Murrys brother Brian Doyle Murry who is also the mayor of Punxsutawney in Groundhog Day, which also stars Bill Murray
Well that was delightful and fun, thank you😊😊😊
I have seen this movie *countless* times (probably close to 80-100 or more times), and this is the first time I've noticed and realized Winston was seen at the beginning of the trial.
Next is Ghostbusters (2016). Yes, I am watching it.
I was 8 when this came out and saw it in the theaters
there was a cartoon series between the two movies so that's a factor
Then, years later, Viggo Mortensen took over our hearts as Aragorn, true king of Gondor and hero of Middle Earth.
I literally still picture that coat where the animals came to life whenever i see real fur...
Ghostbusters 2 is best. Egon is best. You are best.
Yes, the actor who plays Winston is the same, Ernie Hudson.
All the Ghostbusters movies are great except for the all woman Ghostbusters movie which most commentators tend to say should not be watched or reacted to. Of course it’s totally your choice to watch all the Ghostbusters movies if that is your eventual plan. Whatever you decide Im sure I and the rest of your subscribers/ UA-cam channel fans will enjoy seeing whatever you have planned from further Ghostbusters movies and other movies reactions you have lined up for your channel. Love and enjoy your channel KL.
A wild comment appears.
Reaction will come out next week!
The doorman at the Mayors house was played by Bobby Brown
The Bobby Brown Hit that went with this move, Control, goes hard! It really sounds late 80s minus the Hair Bands!
That's not the song. That's just one of his songs. The song for this movie is called On Our Own
@@Lloyd00 Boy, I'm getting old. I must have played that song thousands of tomes when it was out too because I was a radio DJ at the time. Thanks.
@@LaBlueStateGirl no worries I got ur back
KL is so cute all the time! Wish we were friends. 😍
I've seen that one before!
Anyone recognize the guy who wrote the book that Venkman is interviewing? It's the dad from the early Transformers movies.
Thank you! I knew he was in other things I've seen but didn't connect those two.
Valentine's Day 2016 was the first day of this alternate timeline we landed in when our world was destroyed.
Egon #bestgirl
I saw gb1 when I was… 10? The sexual jokes kiiiinda went over my head and/or didn’t register much with me. I knew how to easily ignore stuff that wasted time between good parts. :P
And this is why I couldn't agree with you about shipping Jeanine and Egon.
Well Moore's law was still in effect, so computer in 88 were more than 10x as powerful than they were in 83
GO TEAM EGON!
Rick Moranis is 5’6” he’s not a big guy but not tiny either
The 3rd one (reboot) is very skippable. I suggest continuing on the the continuation (4th).
I'm watching them all!
Give On Our Own by Bobby Brown from the soundtrack for this movie a listen.
Most of the music on the soundtrack are bangers.
Annie Potts was a hottie.
(dumb male and always butt of the joke)
epididymis - A narrow, tightly-coiled tube that is attached to each of the testicles.
Slime - edible mixture of methylcellulose, polyacrylamide, and anthem gum.
It's pretty much a lazy rehash of the 1st, some even shot for shot.
There are worse sequels
I'm not too keen on Janine's hair in this one. *shrug*
I looked at the trap KL.
I'm surprised you reacted to this movie before 3 or 4 months have passed since the last one!
I said I was doing Ghostbusters as my October theme.
Ghostbusters afterlife is even better
So a bit of a Funny, the guy that plays Vigo had a very ... well no offense to him... lame voice. But he had the look. So he was Dubbed over with someone that sound more intimidating.
And wasn't told. He found out at the premier and stormed out.
The voice was Max Von Sydow, he played Ming the Merciless in Flash Gordon and the Brewmeister in Strange Brew. I can't remember his character's name in The Force Awakens, he gave Poe Dameron the disc with the map coordinates.
After Harold Ramis's death in 2014, the films focused on the Spengler family and Egon's legacy.
Hello Movies With KL How are you doing today?😊
Great, thanks! How about you?
@@kaiielle I'm Doing Well also nice movie reaction to Ghostbusters
