So much fun watching your Ghostbusters journey. I'm glad you enjoy it. Another piece of the Ghostbusters puzzle is Ghostbusters: The Video Game. They put out a remastered version, currently available on Steam (and on sale as of this posting). The cast comes back to voice the characters, and it was even written by Dan Aykoryd and Harold Ramis. Side note: Ray hosting that youtube show really gave me flashbacks to when Dan Aykoryd hosted PSI Factor: Chronicles of the Paranormal. A show created in part by his brother Peter Aykroyd. One of my favorites back in the late 90s/early 2000s. It aired in the small hours of the night where I lived. Which made it perfect for me during my vampire sleep schedule in my late teens.
21:09 Patton Oswalt makes everything better, love that guy. Kumail Nanjiani is awesome too. I love it when Stand-Up Comedians I follow also turn out to be solid Actors.
35:33 I fully understand that being a pet peeve in other franchises, but Ghostbusters is first and foremost a comedic franchise, with the exception of sentiment I think every serious moment should be followed by dumb humor.
Hi Kaiielle, I really enjoy your reaction to Ghostbusters frozen Empire👻🚫❄🥰 It's great to see the new Ghostbusters and the original come together. Harold would have loved this RIP for him. When there's something strange in your neighborhood who are you gon to call Ghostbusters 📞 O Busting makes me feel good !!
I think it was the intention to make it more like the cartoon. Specifically, when Jennine suits up. It actually happened in one episode of The Real Ghostbusters.
Ghostbusters is my 3rd favorite franchise behind transformers and Star Trek. I rate the movies as GB2 is the best, GB1 & Afterlife is tied for second, and Frozen Empire just after
20:32 the only reason he didn’t want anything to do with sequels was a spat he had with Harold Ramis. He made up with Ramis before he died. He went to Ramis’ hometown but didn’t know where he lived so he went to the police station and they took him over to the house.
Glad you finished the series and liked this one. I liked this one but the one thing wrong with this one for me was the humor that existed in the previous ones...in particular I and II...isn't in this one.
I agree with your ranking. It was a great addition to the series, just not as good as afterlife. The same way Ghostbusters 2 didn't quite measure up to the original.
Fyi, ur ranking was the exact same as mine except the first 2 are #1 & #2, then Afterlife, Frozen Empire, & reboot. Think what bugged me personally the most about this was i got bored at the theater waiting on the big baddie. Wasnt it like almost an hr or maybe lil less? My kids liked it & they had fun watching it so i thought it was just me. And yeah i love a good horror comedy, but comedy in weird spots takes me out of the movie & that scene u shouted out did the same to me too. This did have alot of fun moments too, but i just didnt care for it as a whole. Glad u watched them all!❤💞❤️
This one had the potential to be good! Lots of cool ideas just executed wrong.. but hope that whatever is in store that Jason Reitman and Gill Kenan is good!
Garaka was so under utilized considering he was a great concept and a creepy villain. It felt like it should have been a tv series to me so it could be properly fleshed out. Your opinion is pretty much the same for me. I'm not really a fan of them seeming to go in a super hero direction with the wrist neutrona wands and such as they were always meant to be like exterminators for ghosts with very diy equipment.
Definitely a step down from Afterlife, but I'd still rank this as the third-best Ghostbusters movie, with Ghostbusters 2 not too far behind in fourth. The Re-Boot was not good, and not because of the cast (who are all largely hilarious), but because the writers apparently forgot that they were supposed to, ya know, write jokes n' stuff. 🤔🤨 Have fun on your trip Kaiielle. You're only young once and it's a wedding so I totally expect you to get wasted and make out with a relative stranger. 🥂🍹😛
Bill Murray, Dan and Ernie have actually been in all five movies. And actually Annie and Harold have had bits in all of them as well, even if it’s just a bust of them.
Oh and first time commenting. Enjoying the channel. I am one of the rare people that loves the ladies busting the best (of all the sequels/reboots). I think the newest two are good, but I’ve always thought they were more kids movies while the “Girl Ghostbusters “ (as my nephews call it) is more of a spiritual, funny, raunchy successor to the originals. Jmho.
Hello, if you don’t mind, can you do a movie reaction on a movie called, 1492: Conquest of Paradise. Adventure/Drama (1992). It stars Gérard Depardieu, Siqourney Weaver, Armand Assante. It portrays a version of the travels to the New World by the Italian explorer Christopher Columbus and the effect this had on indigenous peoples. Directed by Ridley Scott.
Honestly, this movie could have just been Ray, Phoebe and Gary and I would have been happy. Which makes me feel a bit bad for Trevor, because I really think he wasn't needed/didn't add anything to the story.
This film is okay but not great. Too many characters and trying to squeeze them all into the film running time is a negative for me. I think they could've done without Podcast and Lucky tagging along and moving to New York. Their characters served their purpose in the previous movie. There was NO need to bring back the miniature Stay-Puft Marshmallow guys either. It reminds me of a forced cuteness like the Porgs in Star Wars on the island where Rey found Luke. Enough already.
Afterlife was (imho) very well written and it had a lot of heart and love for the first movie and it did not required of me to suspend my disbelief that much. This one is... a bit like SW episode I : too many alien farting "jokes" too many pointless ghost sliming moments and not funny jokes. And the containing unit turning to a fully functional trap... damn... what a wasted potential. I liked the reboot better.

I agree with your order of the movies. The reboot was horrible. I remember seeing the trailer and in the trailer it said 30 years later. When i watched it im like this has nothing to do with 30 years later lol
I think I finally realized what's wrong with this movie. It takes itself too seriously. The other entries in the series all had a level of goofiness that is missing. There were some jokish moments but they were mostly badly timed or not well integrated with the story.
watched this one 3 times in the theater, it's good not great, it has to many little plots and feels like they couldn't decide what the story should be.
I love that this movie brings back Walter Peck as still sort of an antagonist, but they also still make sure he's not a villain. In Ghostbusters he was annoying, but he was KINDA justified. The EPA had no idea what all this Ghostbusting stuff was doing to the environment. And in this movie they made him EVEN MORE reasonable. Like it's REALLY hard to argue with him. WE know Phoebe and we WANT Phoebe to be a Ghostbuster, but objectively speaking, in any sort of sane, rational, legal sense.....Peck is right. It's fucking CRAZY to have a 15 year old girl doing a job that EASILY has the potential of being somewhere between running into burning buildings like a firefighter, and using firearms and being under attack like a police officer/soldier. A 15 year old girl hanging out of the side of a speeding vehicle, in traffic, firing a fucking laser cannon in public, causing property damage.... Like....yea.....it's hard to defend. Peck seems actually SHOCKINGLY fairly fair and rational about it, even though he personally doesn't like the Ghostbusters. I really REALLY appreciate that. MOSTLY I love this movie, but the BIGGEST problem with this movie is that it had just a couple too many characters. And it's REALLY obvious who they were. 1: Lucky Lucky DID NOT need to be in this movie at all. Her entire role should've been split up between Trevor and the Ghostbuster Engineer Corps scientist (what's his name? Lars, I think?) It would've made Trevor and Lars both stronger character with more to do, and it would've trimmed out an extraneous character. It REALLY doesn't even make sense that she's here at all. She was BARELY even involved in Afterlife. Like I get that she wanted out of Oklahoma, and technically she BRIEFLY helped fight Gozer, but god damn that's a flimsy excuse. Trevor continues to be unfortunately underused, so subsuming some of Lucky's role would've really helped him. It would've been cool to see HIM working for Winston and Lars in the Ghost Corps labs. And like he could bring some experimental gear home with him to try and trap Slimer in the attic, so that we could showcase some cool new tech in action. And he could be the one to face off against Garraka first, and save his sister. And most of Lucky's lines and research stuff could've just been rolled into Lars, since that's his whole role anyways. 2: Patton Oswalt We DID NOT need Patton Oswalt's librarian character. Ray and Podcast are BOTH obsessive ghost mythology nerds. Ray could just as easily be an expert on the subject and know where to go in the forgotten library sections to look this stuff up. It would've allowed us to still do the whole NY Public Library visit sequence, but again WITHOUT an extraneous character. The ONLY reason why I WOULD keep the Patton Oswalt character is as setup to make him the main villain in the NEXT movie. Ghostbusters has a history of battling Cthulhu. There's a whole episode of The Real Ghostbusters cartoon called "The Collect Call Of Cthulhu", in which a bunch of cultists use the Necronomicon to awaken Cthulhu and the Ghostbusters have to stop him. Having Patton Oswalt introduce himself as the head of the H.P. Lovecraft society could be AWESOME as a sneaky way to introduce him as actually being the head Cthulhu cultist trying to figure out how to awaken Cthulhu in the next movie. We've never had anything as nightmarishly apocalyptic and terrifying as Cthulhu or Lovecraftian horror, and we've never had the primary villain be an actual willing intentional human bad guy. IF they intend to do THAT....super cool. Otherwise, ditch Patton Oswalt's character. Once you ditch those 2 characters and use their roles to amp up the characters who actually matter, it would focus this movie into something DISTINCTLY more cohesive 3. Ditch the Mini Marshmallows. They don't make sense. It would be okay to have them in the lab, but outside of that they shouldn't be around. The Stay Puft Marshmallow Man was LITERALLY Gozer. Gozer is The Destructor. "Choose the form of The Destructor." Ray chose Mr. Stay Puft. So with Gozer dead......why are they still around at all? In Afterlife is SORT OF made sense. In the original Vinz Clortho (Terror Dog possessed Louis Tully) tells us that Gozer The Traveler will "arrive in one of the pre-chosen forms" "Gozer the Traveler. He will come in one of the pre-chosen forms. During the rectification of the Vuldrini, the traveler came as a large and moving Torg! Then, during the third reconciliation of the last of the McKetrick supplicants, they chose a new form for him: that of a giant Slor!" - Vinz Clortho/Louis Tully So the female Olivia Wilde/David Bowie-style Gozer we see in GB1 is a form someone chose for Gozer previously. In Afterlife, the mini Stay Puft's can be seen as Gozer "arriving in a pre-chosen form" - the Mr. Stay Puft form chosen by Ray. Okay, cool. Like they're Gozer's power manifesting in Summerville and building up in the area before Gozer herself can fully manifest through the Gatekeeper(Zuul) and Keymaster(Vinz Clortho). ........And then they wreck Gozer, and tear her apart into hundreds of pieces, and trap all the pieces into separate ghost traps, AFTER Podcast seemingly murders all the mini-StayPufts with the PKE meter's taser mode. So where do more mini Stay Pufts come from? Why do they still exist separate from Gozer at all once Gozer manifested completely? How are they multiplying? The ONLY answer that seems to make sense is that they're a part of Gozer that somehow remained separate and is re-amassing power. Which......look, Gozer's cool, especially with Olivia Wilde playing her, but we DO NOT need more Gozer. Not for another like.....6 movies. If they're doing Ghostbusters 10, okay, sure, bring back Gozer, as long as they MASSIVELY expand on that mythology and those concepts and don't just do the same beats again. Outside of that, I don't need to see where those mini Stay Pufts go with that truck. Let them ride off into the sunset. I think if they had cut those 3 things this movie would be pretty damn strong.
BIG TANGENTIAL SIDE NOTE: I'll ALSO say that I like Podcast well enough, but I'd ditch him too. If it were up to me, I would've introduced Kylie Griffin from Extreme Ghostbusters instead. Kylie is the badass of the Extreme Ghostbusters. She's the only girl on the team, and she's BY FAR the smartest and most competent. (Think like a badass version of Lydia Deetz from Beetlejuice.) She's a spooky goth girl obsessed with the occult, because she had a fucked up traumatic childhood where she witnessed her childhood best friend get kidnapped by a child stealing ghost/demon and NO ONE BELIEVED HER. So her whole life has been a crusade for the truth about what happened to her friend and trying to get justice. She becomes one of Egon's students in college (The Extreme Ghostbusters cartoon is a sequel to The Real Ghostbusters cartoon. Weirdly, despite being a cartoon, Extreme Ghostbusters is also the darkest and most fucked up part of the Ghostbusters franchise. The premise of The Real Ghostbusters cartoon is that the cartoon is the REAL Ghostbusters, and the live-action movies are just Hollywood adaptations of their adventures.....so the movies are SORT OF canon to the cartoons. So Extreme Ghostbusters is sort of the REAL future of the Ghostbusters, I guess, rather than Afterlife and Frozen Empire? lol 🤷♂) In Extreme Ghostbusters the situation is KIND OF very VERY loosely similar to what happened between GB2 and Afterlife, but also kinda the OPPOSITE of the movies from Afterlife onwards. Venkman, Ray, and Winston all retired and moved on, but Egon is the only one who kept being a Ghostbuster. He doesn't do it as a "Dirt Farmer" in the middle of nowhere though. Egon's a professor, and when ghost stuff starts happening he recruits 4 of his students to be a new Ghostbusters team, including Kylie, his best student. In the comics, they adapt Kylie Griffin to being Ray's assistant in his occult bookstore. She, like Ray, is DEEPLY into all of the spooky mythology and is a master of all the occult stuff. ALSO like Ray, she IS legitimately a scientist and understands the physics needed to do the actual ghostbusting. Having Melody as Phoebe's potential girlfriend was cool and interesting, but long term they should've introduced Kylie in this movie TOO, and had Phoebe and Kylie meet and become friends and eventually girlfriends AFTER the whole Melody situation. Where Phoebe is the perfect successor to Egon, Kylie is the perfect successor to Ray. They'd be the PERFECT duo/couple to lead a new generation of Ghostbusters moving forward. Like Gary, Callie, and Trevor are great and all, but none of them are experts in any of this stuff. They're just kinda "the muscle", so to speak. Gary's at least a scientist and Ghostbusters fan, but this stuff isn't his area of expertise. Podcast sort of HALFWAY fulfills a similar role to what Kylie would be, but he's just an infinitely less interesting character. He's not spooky and dark and kind of fucked up the way Kylie is. He's not kind of serious and badass the way Kylie is. He's good at the mythology, but he's not an actual expert in the science and physics the way Kylie is. He doesn't have a creepy horrifying fucked up backstory the way Kylie does. Podcast is mostly just a fanboy who "ran away from summer camp". He doesn't have the romantic potential with Phoebe (who's clearly into girls). Like imagine how much cuter and more interesting it would've been in this movie if the scenes of Phoebe and Podcast hanging out in Podcast's room at Ray's shop was Phoebe and Kylie hanging out instead....... Two girls who are SO similar but SO different - sort of converging on the same stuff from opposite directions. Phoebe's the nerdy science nerd whose science is focused on Ghostbusting. Kylie's this spooky goth occult lore nerd who backs up her occult studies with science. I'd LOVE to see them be awkward around each other, because from the outside they don't look like they have anything in common.....only for them to totally nerd out and be really amped up about each other as they realize they have almost EVERYTHING in common.... Kylie could've just had Podcast's role in this movie without much explanation about who she is. Spooky occult expert goth nerd girl who works for Ray would've been a fun enough character to drop into this movie without stopping this movie to REALLY delve into who she is and why. And then the NEXT movie could delve into her backstory, and the movie could revolve around children being kidnapped by the same ghost who kidnapped Kylie's best friend. THAT would be a fresh new genuinely sinister storyline that no Ghostbusters movie has dealt with yet. Podcast doesn't really have any built-in story potential. 🤷♂ Just sayin'.

IF they intend to do THAT....super cool.
Otherwise, ditch Patton Oswalt's character.
Once you ditch those 2 characters and use their roles to amp up the characters who actually matter, it would focus this movie into something DISTINCTLY more cohesive
In the original Vinz Clortho (Terror Dog possessed Louis Tully) tells us that Gozer The Traveler will "arrive in one of the pre-chosen forms"
"Gozer the Traveler. He will come in one of the pre-chosen forms. During the rectification of the Vuldrini, the traveler came as a large and moving Torg! Then, during the third reconciliation of the last of the McKetrick supplicants, they chose a new form for him: that of a giant Slor!" - Vinz Clortho/Louis Tully
So the female Olivia Wilde/David Bowie-style Gozer we see in GB1 is a form someone chose for Gozer previously.
BIG TANGENTIAL SIDE NOTE:
I'll ALSO say that I like Podcast well enough, but I'd ditch him too.
If it were up to me, I would've introduced Kylie Griffin from Extreme Ghostbusters instead.
Kylie is the badass of the Extreme Ghostbusters.
She's the only girl on the team, and she's BY FAR the smartest and most competent.
(Think like a badass version of Lydia Deetz from Beetlejuice.)
She's a spooky goth girl obsessed with the occult, because she had a fucked up traumatic childhood where she witnessed her childhood best friend get kidnapped by a child stealing ghost/demon and NO ONE BELIEVED HER.
So her whole life has been a crusade for the truth about what happened to her friend and trying to get justice.
She becomes one of Egon's students in college
(The Extreme Ghostbusters cartoon is a sequel to The Real Ghostbusters cartoon.
So Extreme Ghostbusters is sort of the REAL future of the Ghostbusters, I guess, rather than Afterlife and Frozen Empire? lol 🤷♂)
In Extreme Ghostbusters the situation is KIND OF very VERY loosely similar to what happened between GB2 and Afterlife, but also kinda the OPPOSITE of the movies from Afterlife onwards.
🤷♂
Just sayin'.
Counter-Point: This man has no dick. 😉
