Just absolutely kicked that projects butt. There is 3 decades of training going on in this one video. Just effortlessly scored and fit those blocks. My hats off to you sir.
"It Ain't No BIG deal" I've learned so much in this trade by watching your stuff... BTW the bible verse is a good touch at the end! I enjoyed it! God bless
Hi Mike, thanks for posting all these videos on masonry repair. I've fixed a couple small projects around my house using some of the approaches you show. They've also been a good way to kill time at my desk over the past couple months while things at work are slow. I hope you are having a good spring!
Thanks for sharing your experience. It’s greatly appreciated. I need to replace 4 cellar windows myself and because of your videos I’m confident I can do it myself and save some money in the process.
Mike I just went through all of this on a house I own. The wall was deteriorated in as far as six or seven inches along one whole wall and down two feet below grade with other bad spots here and there. I did the repairs and plastered the whole house. I did use wooden frames around the windows but did it with PT lumber as my window order has not come in yet. In the end the job looks great but that was a lot of work! I used another one of your plastering videos as my info source. Thanks so much for the help! You are my go to guy for concrete info these days.
Thank you for sharing this video. To bad they didn't purchase wood framed windows for replacement. It's understandable though as they are extremely expensive. Thank you again for sharing your videos 🙏
Mike, Thank you for your expertise and teaching us rookies all about masonry. Just moved from Southeastern Pa. to J-town area and rebuilt a flagstone porch, added a step for the back door, 30' walk to gazebo flagstone also. All done with your help, the tip on using portland in the western part of the state was important especially. I have told friends and relatives about your channel, so I think you'll get some new recruits. Thanks again and nice job! Rich
Beautiful job Mike.. My neighbor installed the sane type of window, however he put it in backwards with the handle opener on the outside. I asked why he did such a thing, he said so he can get in his house when the wife locks him out after a late night at the corner bar..
What a difference, looks like a new house.. Wow, maybe a before and after picture at the end of video? A picture is worth a thousand words.. Excellent job..
You SIr, is a master. My old house has the same wall issues, on the outside as well as on the inside. The foundation has all kind of cracks and i could see the outdoors from the inside thru some of the cracks. The blocks or what ever these used for the foundation then, is hallow, with no mortar or cement or steel in the walling, so I am thinking of filling in the hallow space with cement and gravel and do the SAME KIND OF JOB THAT YOU DONE HERE. Could you say if I will be ok with this and if it will strengthen the foundation? I am not a mason or anything, but I think that I could do what I saw you did here. My foundation walls look exactly like the one here. Thank you for posting this video.
Thanks Fada, I can't tell anyone one what to do, I just show what I did in my situations. and I hope it helps and save some people some money, if that makes sense, thanks mike
Do you like the spray foam Insulation for around the basement windows? I was considering doing your mortar method but was concerned for insulation unless I just did the mortar on the front of the window. Thanks mike great video!
All of your windows look great! Have you ever heard of a 4x4 sill plate sagging and preventing the basement window from closing? My 30 yr old vinyl basement windows were installed with a wood header over top. I want to remove it so I can move window up 4" and attach window to sill plate like you do. I would be able to grade soil higher and slope ground to prevent additional damage to foundation. I don't know ow if he did it because I bought the wrong size windows, or if he thought the sill plate would sag without it. I was trying not to make a big deal out of it, but while scraping paint on foundation I noticed windows are coming loose and mortar is falling off. Crickets love the gaps. The installer built a (treated?) wood box, surrounded it with mortar, and mounted vinyl windows into the wood box. If I have to fix them and can get them out in one piece, I may as well move them up & grade soil.
Mike, this is an amazingly good job. I didn't know a foundation like that could be made to look so nice! You're always an inspiration! Thank you so much for these videos and for saying it's no big deal! Did you just throw in a handful of fiberglass?
Hi Mike love what you are doing for the masory trade and educating people in this trade, please keep up the great work. How would you refinish a pea gravel concrete finish driveway? Where peagravel have come out ? What mix would you use to reinstall? I would love you oppion. Thank- you
Mike looks great like always. I saw your supervisor in the purple sweatshirt sitting on the stairs behind you. Also how many payments are left on that broom?
Could you have essentially done the whole job with the Rapid -Set Mortar Mix? Or would that have been to costly? Thanks for the videos and information, been watching and learning. Appreciate the skills, time and effort.
I did mine like this about 6 months ago what a diff it made this past SE Michigan winter. Mike I have a couple spots at the bottom of one window where the cement shrank and can see little light how do I fix it?
That job turned out great, i have seen guys use expanding spray foam (tough stuff ) around the perimeter of the window to hold , then do a coat of cement, personally i dont care for that method, i like old school.
Hi, love your work and videos, learned a lot. I was wandering if if you have anything on block or brick tips when layed against steel columns and beams.
@@MikeHaduck Thank you, the wall is 12 feet from column to column and the blocks or bricks will be layed between the two, was wondering if it will be any issues with the expansion of the steel columns creating cracks. We can’t screw into there, how would you recommend we install our window? Thank you!!
Hi Mike, Can you explain why you use the specific mix at the end-- 2 parts sand, 1/2part "s" mortar, 1/2 part portland + fiberglass? What is the advantage vs straight mortar vs. rapid set, in this case? In one of your other videos you used rapid set. I have a field stone foundation and am looking to replace a 100 year old wooden hopper type window. But I am not plastering or stuccoing...just fixing the mortar between the field stones. Thanks.
Hi Wayne, they probably used lime mortar in those days, I have a playlist called repainting old stone walls, I show what I used there, I only use rapid set for something I want to dry extremely fast, thanks Mike
@@MikeHaduck Thanks Mike. As I am going through you're different videos I'm still trying to get a basic understanding of when and where one needs to use certain specific mixes.
