Happy Birthday!! 💖 Yeah when I got my little C. versicolor, I put them in an enclosure like that and within the hour it escaped. My daughter yelled "moooom, I think your spider is crawling on the TV!!" I had to rig the sides with cardboard. 😒 Cool new enclosure! ☺️
I think this was the first time looking at a spider or spider like creature where in my head I thought I would like to hold that. Tarantula videos brought me back from borderline phobia to a point I could watch them but this is the first time I wanted one to touch me. BonBon is just too darn pretty to be at all scary. Honestly the aviculara was also super cute since its legs were just so long and slender
The Versicolor is my favorite Tarantula. Maybe one day I'll get one. It's been a long time since I've been in the hobby and I promised myself I would never get another big spider after the horrible care I gave them. The hobby wasn't the same 30 years ago. It was very basic and Pet Shoppish. I feel bad that I let so many tarantulas down because I didn't know enough to take care of them. Now I'm finding out all the information I can before I decide to buy one. I thank you, Kat (and everyone of the UA-cam influencers) with the education y'all have given me. 3:50... yep, that's ALL you. I had my A. purpurea in one of those enclosures for about a year and not once did I fail to close the door properly. Excellent enclosures for the money.
Kat, I have both sizes of the Zilla enclosures. I bought a female metallic pinktoe. She was bigger than I thought she would be. Back to the store for the larger enclosure . Yes the larger is more flimsy . and I had the door ajar like you did ,but no escapes but crickets could through the gap in the bottom, so I make sure the door is closed properly . You can strengthen the cage by using aquarium sealant if you don't mind sticky fingers across all joints of the cage could help.
BonBon is gorgeous!! Love the fact she has been raised from a sling and she is now of an age you can look back fondly at the bond you have. My four Ts all are slings, two have moulted once, and it's just so special seeing em grow from such a young age. 🖤 Dunno if you've ever tried keeping isopods, but they can be also super special to raise. Started with a dozen or so in a large terrarium.. recently had to empty it to start afresh due to fungus gnat infestation that I couldn't get under control.. and OMG the hundreds of baby isopods I got to see during the painstaking hours of relocating them made me "AWWW SO TINY!!" countless times!

Your Caribena Versicolor Bon Bon is gorgeous. I just got my first tarantula...also a Versicolor....and it is a wonder to watch as it molts, grows, and gets faster!!! The first time mine jumped, it startled me a bit, but now I know what to expect. Bolty...but beautiful!!!
I usually make my own arboreal enclosures. I use a Hobby Lobby long display case, dremel the bottom third of the lid off, tgen glue in the small part of the lid, attach the larger piece with acrylic hinges, and melt a hole on the top through the case and the lid for a nail to fit through that locks it in place. It’s been the best for me so far, and you decide pretty much everything about it as far as ventilation.

Yeah so I had my juvie Regis in one of those zillas and our area got hit with a 6.4 quake.... it is the only enclosure that went flying and broke. Granted it was easy to replace parts cause I had a second but you really don't want your Pokie running about at 3 am with the power out

Happy birthday mine was 6 days before Christmas yours is 6 days after! 🎂🎉 The only issue I see with putting the avic in that enclosure is that they web up the top. And that's the only way to open it. So you would probably be ripping the webbing up. But it is a really cool design for spiders that use the cork bark tubes to make their homes. Happy new year to you and your family!

MINE TOO!!! happy birthday! bonbon is gorgeous. and yeah. i dismantled my small version of the zilla arboreal after having it set for a bit while waiting for one of my jumpers to get bigger. it was just too easy to open on accident. so now the box from the bottom holds some substrate in my cricket enclosure to give them something to be on besides their eggcrate if they want and the sides might siliconed together with some led faerie lights in it or something.

Personally, I’ve found the canopy lid to be frustrating with my arboreal Avicularia Purpurea since it always would create intricate tunnel webs right where the two pieces connect and I’d end up destroying it every time I opened up the canopy to feed. I think the canopy would be awesome if there was an additional door that could be opened so that webbing didn’t need to be disturbed. Because of this I recently transferred it into one of their more standard enclosures and I much prefer it thusfar!
I have to rehouse my spiders soon and they're in really similar enclosures. I was considering using aquaseal on the new enclosures (and the old ones once I've cleaned them) to help with their lack of security. If I do the outside and inside, it could work out alright. Not sure.

I caught one of your videos on accident about a month or so ago & have been intrigued & amazed with your videos & the new world of "pet" spiders ever since. Ironically enough about a year or two ago I took pictures & a video of a jumping spider on the arm of my lounge chair outside. At the time I had no idea what kind of spider it was or that down the road I'd be thinking about housing one. Thank you for the wonderful content.
Funny mine molted about 10 days before new years and refused food 5 days after that. New years I tried to feed again and she came out of the enclosure and refused to go bak in. I need to re-do her enclosure but yeah she does what she wants. Eventually after a long walk and climbing everywhere she did re-enter the enclosure. Isn't this the second escape of bon-bon lol.
Happy Birthday!! I have not a Zilla enclosure but another brand that is very very similar. Yea I have problems with it also. it's a terrestrial rather than the arboreal and the top has warped and is sagging a bit. Also one of the silicone bands corroded and broke. Plus it has 2 swing latches on the top of the lid to keep it closed and on both sides the tiny plastic screw with a nut kept falling out until I super glued the nut to the threads. They still rotate to lock and unlock, but those suckers ain't coming off again anytime soon. lol. Thank you for all the great content in the last year! Happy New year!

The zilla tanks if the pieces get sanded down in places they aren't so bad really helps them from warping but of not then the bottom edge tends to spread out away from the base but u can also solve that whole issue and silicone the tank and that solves all issues just makes it harder to clean out I keep alot of my arboreal ts in them pokies included and haven't had any issues with the tanks accept the dam lock and that tiny piece comes loose but after sanding some spots they're great
I have a C. Versicolor so this is nice for enclosure inspo. Only an inch and a half right now but I know she'll get big eventualy! I love the zilla I have her in, its the smaller one o it's less wobbly. I'll probably need to rehouse in a few molts so i'll have to chose something new to use.
the front legs moving up and down when you're holding your versicolor maes me nervous, I have jumpers and thats usualy an inidcation they're abot to jump, so I am instinctively nervous

I'm predicting the Avicularia avicularia is going to web the roof to the plant, and feeding is going to become an engineering challenge.

Knowing my Avics and Caribena versicolor, I’d be concerned about them webbing to the top of that cube, tho. And their webbing is super strong, which may make removing the top hard.

The zilla tanks if the pieces get sanded down in places they aren't so bad really helps them from warping but of not then the bottom edge tends to spread out away from the base but u can also solve that whole issue and silicone the tank and that solves all issues just makes it harder to clean out I keep alot of my arboreal ts in them pokies included and haven't had any issues with the tanks accept the dam lock and that tiny piece comes loose but after sanding some spots they're great
I have a C. Versicolor so this is nice for enclosure inspo. Only an inch and a half right now but I know she'll get big eventualy! I love the zilla I have her in, its the smaller one o it's less wobbly. I'll probably need to rehouse in a few molts so i'll have to chose something new to use.
the front legs moving up and down when you're holding your versicolor maes me nervous, I have jumpers and thats usualy an inidcation they're abot to jump, so I am instinctively nervous

Happy Birthday. I've been watching your video for the last few weeks, keep trying to get my daughter to like them but she hates spiders. I've been wanting a T or Jumping spider for a long time. Trouble is I have kitties that would probably want to eat them, plus its so cold where I live in winter I'd be worried I wouldn't be able to keep it warm. I do love your videos. ROSIE is beautiful 😍
