  • Watch this quick and easy guide of how to plastidip emblems/badges on cars the right way - perfectly!
    PlastiDip, in my experience, is okay in other applications, but truly shines in this one.
    Enjoy!

    Did it today Plasti dip in Red on a black boxster. It came out perfect! Thank you for the inspiration! :)

    Great taste in cars. I also had a Spyder with my Macan S. :) I also did the same plasti dip method on my Macan emblem.

      'Had'!? Uh-oh, does that mean you gave it up? I have a hard time seeing the day I part with mine. But, never say never... Safe driving.

    Would it be better to apply a thin coat of wax or Vaseline petroleum jelly to everything but the letters? I'm amazed how the plastidip adheres to only the badge. Nice work, will try.

      You could try, I'd say it's not necessary. A little rubbing alcohol and a cloth is as far as I've needed to go to remove any overspray. It's also a reason to do good taping off and go 'thick' around the lettering you're doing since that way it comes off easier/cleaner.

    How does this not pull the coating off the letters??

    • @DWraysGarage
      @DWraysGarage  5 років тому

      It's essentially a non-toxic rubber spray. I've used it in multiple automotive applications on several vehicles and never had an issue with tarnishing what it covered up. If anything, it's a hair too easy to remove the Plastidip.

      I would have put my money on the plastic-dip coming off the chrome letters altogether. Beats me!

    Is still good, can you give us an update please

      Rock solid. Unless you go after the finish aggressively when hand washing, it will stay as long as you want it. Apply it correctly (to clean surface) and with enough coats for thickness and it’s a home run. Easy, cheap job with high value change impact that’s fully reversible. Sweet all day.

    Also, how well does the plastic dip stay on the chrome? Seems to peel away from the vehicles clear coat easily

      Honestly, it's pretty surprising. Blows my mind every time. I think the way it cuts where the lettering edges means it doesn't get the tug.

    Can I use Plasti Dip on plastic trim/fender (they are faded), will that bring back the black trim fenders?

    • @DWraysGarage
      @DWraysGarage  4 роки тому +1

      I wouldn't. To breathe new life into them I recommend some CarPro Perl. Give it a good clean with all purpose cleaner and then apply the Perl. Will need to reapply every month (depending on climate) but super easy and looks great. Just make sure to buff excess after application.

    Nice video for de-chroming the emblems. How many PlastiDip cans did you need for all 5 coats? I have also seen the use of a shiny clear PlastiDip coat at the end to bring it back from flat black which could also be used. Thanks in advance.

      We used maybe 3/4 of 1 spray can on the entire project. That was really laying it on thick! Haven't seen the clearcoat-esque product which I'll look into, thanks. I do like the flat look but the car is more gloss black than matte. Cheers for watching!

    Does this paint work on the porsche badge over the plastic in the rear of panamera 4s 2017

    • @DWraysGarage
      @DWraysGarage  3 роки тому

      It will work on plastic lettering on the back. I'm not sure if you're referring to something else though? The Porsche badge itself I'm not sure you'd want to put plastidip over. The good thing is that it doesn't hurt to try. It's easily removable.

    That’s nice, I’m not paying $400 for the dark badges

    • @DWraysGarage
      @DWraysGarage  4 роки тому

      There's really no need to. Sometime you just have to pay for it to be right. Not here.

    How long did you wait in between coats?

      Oh and how long did you wait for drying?

    • @DWraysGarage

      Depends on whether you live in AZ and/or have a heat gun to assist. I waited 15-20 between coats on a 85° day.
