- While many recording studios revolve around DAW systems, not all engineers and mixers are concerned with mixing on a fully integrated system. Enter the XL Desk (bit.ly/SSLXLDesk), an analog console that works in DAW-based studios, but strays away from integrated control and level automation. This is desk looks great, and the price point is great. I really hope it sounds as great as it looks. There seems to be a lot more features on this desk than the api 1608, plus its $15,000 cheaper, it all comes down to how does it sound. Hopefully I can get in front of one for a demo soon!

Ok! Ive been thinking for a while now that i would love to build my own 500 series console. Specially considering i work as an analyzer technician, building one of these wouldn’t be beyond my abilities, though finding the time to do so would be incredibly hard. All that being said its nice to find that SSL has already done all the work for me... i think that will be my next addition

Are the 500 slots compressor linkable? i would assume so if they can be used for busses?
How do you know how loud your tracks are going to be if it's not a DAW controller, and there isn't an appointed VU for every track? Not that I could ever afford this, I'm just curious since he didn't mention anything about that...
***** It will still be inputing to your DAW, so you'll have virtual VU meters in there, won't you?
Yeah, the same way you do now. Watch the meters in your DAW.
buy an external meter, im pretty sure you can get this setup with that because I have seen some setups online, check it out...

No DAW control or automation capabilities for 20,000+ is like buying a new car with no AC in 2014. smh! I don't know anybody who wants to track through an SSL... And I sure as hell don't know anybody that wants to mix on a console with no automation... Let alone an SSL with no automation. smh! If their was an automation/Daw control option this thing would be a hit.
CRISISBX You don't know anybody who wants to track through an SSL? That seems mad to me. Maybe this is aimed at producers different in style to yourself. Personally I think this looks amazing. A cross between in the box and analogue. Track through it, then out put your mix across however many channels you want whilst you track some more. Who needs automation when you're working in the box? :)

You don't buy SSL's for DAW control and automation. You buy SSL's for the pre-amps, dynamics, and EQ's.
Robert Stevenson Firstly, this doesn't come with any comp. Secondly, the AWS900 was extremely popular. What's my point with this? Obviously, people want the pre's, EQ's, AND DAW-control.
Yeah, both versions of this desk come with the G-comp. Maybe I'm completely ignorant, but why is no DAW control a problem?

Looks and sounds like it was recorded by a friend with a camera. For this much money, make a proper ad/tutorial with someone who knows it.
