    Fantastic thanks, my knock outs are on the way. I have an Impact Mk1 as well, so your tests are really interesting. My reg press is 145 bar and valve setting at the 4th ring. H&N 21gr slugs at 960fps, very accurate

      Hi Jeremy, my gun on almost the same settings as yours, running the FX Slugs at 970fps (22gn)

    I see slugs as a win for FX. Air guns have stagnated and people are excited over any new thing. Slugs are a fiddlers dream. The FX impact allows to fiddle more than most traditional airguns. Changing out barrels, hammer strikes etc.
    That said I don't see slugs as a big improvement for most PCPs at 50 yards. Pellets still a bit more forgiving and not so picky. Moving to slugs = more air = more refills = higher pressures needed in gun = more air. So for most my shooting I'm still using pellets. Most my guns are 25-30FPE range and slugs seem to need a bit more ooomph. They seem to be less effecient so its a step backwards but one forward if you dont mind poor air miles to get more range.

      I could not have said it any better Bob. Slugs are designed for one purpose only and that is hunting, they will not beat the accuracy of a pellet up to 75 yards. I am doing a new video about WHY slugs that I hope will strengthen your argument. I shoot pellets most of the time, but when I go pest controlling for farmers I need that long range hitting power the slugs provide. And yes the slugs are fussy and they need speed and more air, those that aren't fussy are usually made out of very hard lead and doesn't expand at all, making them expensive paper plinker fodder. Shot count is important to me thus I try to find a balance here. Thanks for the insight, I appreciate it.

      @@AimSmall For people with Impacts (like you) ohh for sure slug away. You can dial it in and take some shots with much more confidence at 100 yards. They should be able to make them the same prices as pellets too.
      Not sure what the cut off is now, probably need a 40FPE gun or one that can push the slug at 900-950 fps.
      The best gun to have is the one you have for that. Not sure how well a slug works in the 16-18gr range. That is what they need to do for the existing air gun owners. (or sell them for Impacts!)
      Right now I think you have to best gun for that job. You probably can find one that works great at all distances. I don't think I would want to change ammo type for each yardage. Like "no i cant shoot that bird because i have a slug in and its 20 yards, let me unload and put my more accurate pellet in. Oh wait it just flew to 80 yards, dang, hand me my slugs". :)
      Wonder what Daystate is doing about the slug revolution. Guess they might not need to worry since they are illegal in Extreme Benchrest.
      My fav gun is still my traditional looking 2012 Regal XL (when they had nice wood). At 50 yards at our club I beat FX Impact, Royal, Crown and a RAW (and he cheated with tether external reg) Its so unassuming, little old wood gun.
      I'm a sucker for old fashion wood but the Impact to me is hard to beat in versatility, it does everything well.

    What is your reg configuration for these speeds, do you only configure the reg or also the valve and spring of the hammer?

    • @AimSmall
      @AimSmall  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Milton, yo this was before I changed my whole setup. If I remember correctly the reg was at 155bar, hammer spring maxed out and valve adjustment on 3 lines. KO's were running at 930fps

    Hi ! I wonder is it possible to shoot these slugs with standart barrell of mk1 ? Because my gun didn't shot the slug because of air leakege in the pellet probe (i guess). Is the barrell needs to be replaced?

    • @AimSmall
      @AimSmall  4 роки тому +2

      Hi Selim, the short answer is yes you can, the bigger question is about accuracy. My experience with slugs has been that it loves the bigger speeds, thus if your rifle can run them at 930fps you should get some decent groupings. I know of many UA-cam stars that shot slugs out of their FX Impacts for a while before "slugliners" were invented. I am not a fundy at twist rates and choked barrels but they also do play a role. The slugliners are good for pellets and slugs, I don't know if the same can be said about pellet liners...

      @@AimSmall Thank you for the satisfying answer, after the unseccessful try, I tightened the tiny screw of the pellet probe a little bit, then I was able to make a few random shots with the slugs. I will push the limits after the this virus limitations. thanks again

      Hi Syed, 35gr slug perform best at 930fps or faster, you will have to get that reg up to 150bar at least.

      Hi Marc, this is my second Impact, I was fortunate/unfortunate to have one of the first Impacts ever in RSA, came out with a couple of errors, Grub screw holding barrel kept loosening after a couple of shots which would lead to POI adjustments, had to tighten every 30 shots, then the cocking mechanism bent, which resulted in a double load shooting the shroud to pieces... luckily FX replaced the parts and rebuild the cocking mechanism with something more sturdy. My current FX I bought from a very trusted chap in Cape Town who likes working on guns, I haven't had a single issue with the new gun yet, about 3000 shots later and it just keeps hammering on. There is however one or two small parts not liking the hammer tension, the gun I bought has special seals made to take the hammering. Will last for ages. Ek antwoord maar in Brits sodat die res van die wereld ook verstaan. All the best with your gun, share some pics and ideas.

    Amazing accuaracy,is this a slug liner? That’s a lot of speed from a mk1

    • @AimSmall
      @AimSmall  4 роки тому +5

      Hi Sam. yes this is the 700mm slug liner, the valve in front is set to 3 3/4 lines, reg is set at 145bar and the hammer spring adjusted to perfection. I would say it is running at about 90% of max with this setup, anything higher will put too much pressure on the internals and shot count will drop too much. Plus I am not a power junkie, I crave accuracy above anything else. The 26gn slugs need about 930fps to stabilize it for long shots. Unfortunately I only have 29m to test at the moment, but will be stretching the gun's legs soon. The 26gn JSB Redesigned loves to fly at 870fps, I have tested them out to 88yards with great success. I shoot them on power setting 3 on the Impact, more than 90 shots per fill.

    • @samsawyer2145
      @samsawyer2145 4 роки тому

      Aim Small it’s certainly shooting well,one of the best I’ve seen,I’ve found the monsters like 870 FPS the best too! I’m currently shooting the 25grain slugs at 850 but now I have the power plenum fitted I will push for over 900,I also want supreme accuaracy and a decent shot count
      Love your content so far 👍

    • @AimSmall
      @AimSmall  4 роки тому

      @@samsawyer2145 Thank you Sam. The slugs accuracy is not bad at 850fps, but they tend to open up on longer distances, so all depends on the shooting distance you intend to shoot at... I am going to shoot mostly between 50m (55yrds) and 80m (88yrds), thus I have to find the best solution for these distances. Plus I walk around while shooting (no bench shooting, only bi-pod if I am lucky), thus shot count is an issue, can't refill every 30 shots.

    • @samsawyer2145

      Aim Small I want sub moa at 100 yards really to make it work,like you say the slugs just are not quite fast enough at 100 to retain the accuaracy,and yeh I want 60 shots per fill minimum with the 25grains at 950 I’m hoping! Nice thing with the power plenum tho is if I wanted I could go right back down and shoot 18 grain pellets with 180 odd shots per fill

      Thanks Vinny, only noticed that after the final edit. The speeds might be slightly off, but not enough to influence the end results. The chrony was the same through out the tests thus it was the same for everything. Well spotted. I did redo the speeds with the correct weight of slugs in the chrony (the speed difference was less than 10fps), yes it makes a massive differce to FPE - but that wasn't the focus in this video.

      Hi Raja, 28m or 31 yards, I will move out to 50m (55yards) soon to retest all the pellets and slugs. Might even try 75m and 100m depending on the wind.
