Yup..I'm 54 and sit on the floor in my basement all the time to organize all of the various lines I collect. Told my buddy that it makes me feel like a kid playing with my toys. 100%.
I got a round about mention on this video! I was the guy who bought the storm shadow with the sticker. He told me about the sticker right away but the figure was so pristine that it didn't matter. I am from Mississippi and was traveling back from North Carolina during March Madness and I had to stop in and check out the store. Amazing selection and super knowledgeable and friendly staff.
I used to collect Pops, but then they started doing so much. Sold most of mine during Covid. Some sold for $1500+ a piece (I had early exclusives). Been buying retro games, Lego, and vintage toys with the money since then. I have kept a few Pops for characters I really like that don't have lines elsewhere.
I have an entire wall of Funko Pops. I get why Ryan "doesn't get it." They don't have personality and uniqueness. But not all I.P.'s have a toy/figure line, so Funko Pops kinda fill that void. It brings that stuff to life. That's why I collect them. I always look at Ryan's collection when I'm in the store. Never know what he has.
Love that ya’ll do trades on the floor. That’s a huge part of our childhoods, playing with toys on the floor. No other way to do it. Don’t ever change what you are doing.
Anything that is specifically made to be a collectible usually doesn’t retain its value over the long term. Nobody is going to be nostalgic for Funko Pops they bought and left in the box. It’s the toys that people played with (and wore out) that have long term collectibility… especially when few of those toys survive in mint condition. I think the only reason the Pops fad survived longer than Beanie Babies is because they had so many different franchises they could exploit. But eventually market saturation took over and a lot of people realized they were being milked by too many limited edition releases. A lot of mint condition Pops will end up in the landfill… not counting the ones that Funko themselves already sent there.
I think it's real cool when you ask the person what they thought the value of there trade is besides just abruptly saying what you think it is I think that draws more people to your store
some toy lines have a "my pet rock" vibe. not for me, i like well designed articulation and original character design. some of the best action figures, in my mind , available today are coming from smaller studios like four horse men. those guys are amazing!

The guys had a great point on Funkos. If the line had very limited merch then Funko makes sense. I’ll give you an example. My wife is a huge fan of Jim Henson’s Labryinth. There is very limited merch so she has been trying to complete the funko line (doesn’t buy online, only at toy shows).
For me, I enjoyed collecting Funko Pops for what they were. Fun little $10-15 figures that represented some of my favorite licenses, which often take themselves a little too seriously, in a not so serious format. I also enjoyed that there were interesting variants that could be found and exclusives and what not. One day I realized I had maybe 90-100 of them that I had kept sealed and I was curious if any of them had any value, so I started looking into it and was absolutely floored with what I saw. TL:DR I ended up selling the entire collection piece-by-piece for about ~$12k in total off of what I would estimate to be an initial $1k outlay. I enjoyed them at the $10 price point, but what they were being valued at was so absurd I decided it was time to get out while the getting was good.

I collect POPs but not like i used to due to the company over producing them. I just go for rare/autograph ones now. I just like the simplicity of them and they display easy.

Funky lost its popularity because, like beanie babies, people are buying to flip vs collect. The same thing happened to comics, cards etc in the 90s. All speculators and not collectors
Thank you! I appreciate the sentiment regarding Funko Pops. I have very few, but they are all tied into something I have interest in well beyond just having one for the sake of having one. I never understood the rabid ferociously that some people collect them. For me personally they are the modern Beanie Babies and someday I feel they will be everywhere and 99.9% will be worthless.

Its funny that most of these comments are parroting the same opinions ive been hearing for years. yet funkos for me have never stopped selling and have only gone up. Sure they have their common stuff thats overmade and make its way to the clearance racks, but so does almost every toy, whether it be gi joe, star wars black series, power rangers, etc. Hell i remember seeing OG pokemon packs on clearance racks when i was young and look at them now. At the end of the day people like what they like!

HT will re-release or 2.0 some of these popular current low production figures if/when the market gets better bank on it. The only question really is how long are you willing to wait and (sorry to go dark) - will the world even be here when that happens. On the flipside some of these current peg warmers are probably going to be worth a lot in the future should they not get a re-release or 2.0.
Just a thought, in fairness to the people who are unable to sit on the floor or even stand for long periods while you sort their trades, maybe you could provide (or offer) a folding chair for them to sit on while they wait. Love the channel(s) and great content!! Keep it up!!

i collect "Invincible" and they have very few things to collect. there really isnt a large amount of figures and they are expensive. i do have every single invincible universe action figure so i decided to buy the funko pops as well. theyre the only ones i own...
I love Funko Pops! Been collecting figures since the 80s and the Pops fit right in with a lot of my collection. The best part of liking Pops is not one of you would trash them to my face 😂
Pops seemed like bottom of the barrel level low effort, which is one reason why I never liked them. They are all stupid looking to me, because they look so alike. I don't like super-deformed type looking characters, though.

Few years before covid you could sell anything. I sold off my Funko, Kidrobot, gaming collection and any action figure made a decent amount of money.
