I'd love a multi part series were each brings in a prized collection piece and discusses where it came from and why its in their collection. I'm sure that could generate some great discussion from the others at the table as well.
I don’t even collect toys but these guys are just chill nice people. I wish they had a store in California. I would go in and buy something just for the experience.
A Fan of your stuff - Just an idea about the podcast vids, I know it would be more work, but if you could put a little stock picture in the corner of the toy or item your referring to. Would do wonders for the people who have no clue what your talking about. I'm just thinking of others really! Keep up the good work guys.
I love that you guys started doing this. I’m not aware of other toy shops going on UA-cam and actually “talking” about the business side of things from the owner/shop point of view. I truly believe a lot of people need to see stuff like this. Thank you and I can’t wait for the next episode!
I started selling as a comic vendor at regional shows a little over two years ago. It’s a side hustle for me, so I don’t have a giant inventory, but at my last show I had THREE dudes say, “You got any REALLY good stuff under the table?” I said to the one dude, “this show is 9 hours long and I’m 150 miles from home and my goal is to sell comic books, so if I’ve got good stuff with me, it’s not going to sit under my table.” I always kinda remind myself that it takes all kinds of people to make the world go round. Love the talk.
Listing from the UK. This podcast, two episodes in has already improved my knowledge of collecting toys. Here's hoping for many more episodes in the future!
Finally, a toy shop podcast. How has this never been done? I see the toy shop vlog on UA-cam a few times a week, and I dig most all of them, but Saturday morning Toy Federation is the cream of the crop. Seems like all of my favorite action figure/toy channels that I subscribe to, keep their videos to around 15-20 mins, and most of the time,I’m fine with that. There are a couple of channels, that I’d love to see longer videos from, and Toy Federation is at the top of that list. So,to see a 40 minute podcast following the weekly show, has me even more pumped for Saturday mornings. So, thanks again for the great content and can’t wait to see what’s next for you guys.☮️
You had the Secret Stash podcast - which came from the store/Comic Book Men show...but that was mostly comic talk. Then you had that show Toy Hunter on the Travel Channel, although not sure if there was a companion podcast. So yeah, pretty sure this is a brand new concept. *And for sure, would absolutely love to see 40+ minute long episodes. It's tough stuff, so maybe one day.
you can talk about the most memorable trade ever or the week. maybe more history on how toy federation came to be and how you kept it going all these years
Keep it up, guys. I'm an 80's toy kid who kept everything, I've never collected toys but love the show's. I do build model kits and have a 76 kit stash. Anyway, continue having fun and cheers from Australia.
Absolutely love the podcast !! The edits are great and the flow is really nice as well. I’ve learned so much from watching yalls show and now the podcast as well. One thing I’d say to add is maybe some pictures of the bigger toys y’all are talking about. I’m still a newbie in the toy collecting scene so a lot of the toy talk goes over my head and throwing in some photos would help catch me/ others up to speed. I’m in my late 20’s so I didn’t grow up with the toys but I really appreciate them and want to keep the flame going. Theirs so much to toy collecting and it can definitely get a little jumbled lol
Really enjoy your channel and LOVE that you post on Saturday mornings!! I don't know if that is an intentional homage to the days of viewing Saturday morning cartoons and seeing toy commercials airing at that time or if it's out of convenience but I enjoy eating my breakfast as I watch.
Topics that would be fun to see you discuss: 1. Is toy collecting a dying hobby? All of you have stated that kids don't play with toys anymore. So does that mean that 10-20 years from now those people won't have the nostalgic connection to toys? 2. Vintage Kenner Star Wars will always be the top Star Wars collectible, but from my personal view, Prequel Star Wars (especially Clone figures) have become quite popular as well. True or my imagination? 3. What is the true golden age of toys? While most believe it was the 70s and 80s, some say there is more available today then ever before and figures can be far more small market then they could be in the past. Great show gentlemen keep it up!
Watching your videos help me understand cost so much more and I almost got ripped of selling stuff worth over 500pounds when I was offered 40 pounds cash 50 trade. I've sold over half of it myself and made over 300 pounds in profit. Love how honest you are
I think you guys are unto something. Wouldnt be surprised a big network offer to buy your show or produce your stuff. Such a good show for collectors. Both your main channel and this podcast are great.
I could listen to you guys talk toys all day. I’ve been selling toys in the UK for 30 years and I have as much nostalgia for toys I’ve sold than those I had as a kid! Keep the pods coming. Maybe an episode on your wish you’d kept for yourself regrets.
Another really good episode. Great to see Ryan lay out his methodology for pricing stuff and remind folks that he's running a business and make money, not trying to build the world's biggest collection with a limitless budget and he has been doing it longer then most of us, so he knows a lot of this stuff better then the back of his hand. I know him and I have talked about that a few times and I personally treat my collection like a nice thing I get to have, but can be gotten rid of at a moment's notice if life decides to come at me (like it did earlier this month lol), but I also know not everyone sees toys that way and has to have a reality check sometimes, especially in this economy. That MOTU set up for Retro sounds really cool even though it's not something I'm super into, hope Pixel Dan is at the show this year so the world can see his reaction to it. Don't know how ya'lls mics work but that thunderclap sounded more like a car backfiring haha The stuff with Comic character interest is something I don't know if I agree on. Because I do hear what Ryan and Travis are saying a lot but I also think when it comes to the former, DC has just had a huge image problem since the 90s. Like, yeah, there have been a lot of good eras for the comics since then, but ever since comics got taken out of super markets they've become a real niche interest (and I'm saying that as someone who reads week to week lol) and in other media, while they're have been some successes, a lot of it has been relative flash in the pan type stuff with little to no staying power. The first two Nolan movies and JLU are about the only modern things I see folks getting nostalgic for right now. I don't know how they fix that image problem beyond keeping the McFarlane stuff going so it can have time for people to get used to and have faith in it and for the love of god, make these new DC Studios movies be good, but I also don't think it's a relatability problem. I love Captain America and Daredevil, but no special serum or can of chemicals is ever gonna make me like them and I'm totally fine with that because I like them for the kind of people they are and what they represent. So I don't see why others can't feel the same way about Superman or The Flash. I think you just need to expose people to the best versions of the characters to make them like and want to pay for them, but that's just how I see it. Same thing with "Do kids still play with toys or ride their bikes" honestly, because I think a lot of us tend to forget, there's a lot of kids' lives we just aren't seeing. Like, when us adults are at work or running errands, often times they're at school, or at home, or with friends or at some kind of program and I think in those spaces there's probably a fair bit of that happening. Not to say I don't think Video Games and Phones have taken away, just that it's probably less of a problem because it's not like those are the only things to do, those are just the main things to do at home and a lot of areas don't have public spaces for stuff like riding bikes anymore because of what was taken away and a lot of parents will say not to do it in the street because of potentially getting hit by a car. I don't know about future topics honestly, but if all else fails you could always have the guys talk about their pre Toy Fed days or give thoughts on recent news about upcoming stuff from the major companies. Sorry for the long comment, I hope it was easy to follow, I just tried to type as they switched topics but I can condense or leave something like this as multiple comments next time I have this many thoughts if you prefer.
Great discussion guys! I do find it interesting how certain lines fluctuate in popularity. Some stay consistent but depending on its relative media, it’s following, or its collectibility it can really drive the prices for certain items.
Stumbled across the main channel yesterday and I've been binge watching all of the episodes there. And then today I find that you have a podcast?!!! I'm a huge fan already and love the content you guys are putting out! It's awesome and well done, and I can't get enough of it lol. Keep doing what you're doing guys!!
I'm absolutely loving the podcast lads. I have a pal who collects and we sit at a table and talk what we have found every month. The problem I have now is I'm now adding joes to my collection, (I need 1 of my kids to move out so I can have there room 😅). Keep up the good work.
Another great discussion. Would love for you to answer how you keep track of what you paid for stuff. For example, you get a lose vintage Star Wars figure with no weapon but eventually you get the weapon. How in the world do you know what cost you have in it. Love the videos.
Didn’t listen when the preview of the pod was at the end. Placement in the middle of the reg videos I listened. An now I’m listening to the whole thing! They got me
I like hearing about modern collectors because back when toybiz released the X-Men based on Bart sears X-Men, one of my favorite artists working mainstream, I wasn't collecting any crap. But I wanted it. It was the first time artist based work had been produced in plastic. Then Todd mcfartlane came out with spawn. I was continuously going from crappy brick and mortar stores, coming out with glad bags full of crap I got for under 10$. I didn't collect anything that wasn't clearance. And was outraged that domestic companies thought they could compete with Bandai. Producing fantastic, super engineered, Kamen rider stuff, stuffed with fun😂❤
Yay for another Toy Federation channel! Let's Gooooo! I'd like for each of you to talk about your personal collections. What do you mainly collect and what are some things you're looking for? How/what ways has working at the store affected your hobby?
I have to agree with you guys the virtual collectibles market seems really odd. McFarlane tried to sell it to the audience at a comic con by saying “it’s for the people that don’t have space in their apartments/houses etc” but I honestly don’t buy that, I think collectors make space rather than a digital alternative.
32:50 I remember as kid me and my buddy holding Plastic Grocery Bags above our heads as parachutes and jumping off a 4ft wall to see if it slowed us down! 😂👌 I wasn't stupid enough to try it from the roof though!
I'd love to see an episode about vintage 80s electronic board games such as Dark Tower, Lost Treasure or the D&D electronic labyrinth. I was addicted to many of those 80s gems. It would also be cool to see a talk about the Shogun Warriors and various Japanese robot toys of that era. Another one of my addictions. lol
- the future of collecting (new generations are they into collecting?) - cool weird bootleg stuff or bootleg subject in general - how the new retro releases affect the old vintage lines - what figures you bought form the store for your personal collection - when you first got into collecting (when you were kids) what were the first lines you started colleting
I'd like to know what you do with figures that aren't perfect (yellowed, paint rub etc.). Do you just not buy those? You must acquire beaters when you buy big lots, so what happens to the rejects? Would you consider having a "beater bin" so that people could rummage and pick up playworn figures? Thanks for all the great content guys! 👍🐵
I would love to hear about parts and building complete figures. Not in a sense of teaching us lines, but the experience, about recognizing what parts go with what, some personal successes and failures of dealing with parts. I love that you guys know so much about parts and that you don't sell parts. There has to be loads of convo there that can be delved into. Not instructional information or a how to though.
I started my collection with G.IJoes,LJN,Remco,Star Wars, and He Man..Then later on,TMNT... Now that I'm grown with my own children,we watch and collect things together. I'm exclusive to wrestling figures and GI Joe Classifieds...Best figures out💯
I'm absolutely loving your podcast. I'd like to hear more about your trade vs. cash formula and the logic behind it. Also, I'm not sure if this it a topic you'd want to get into or not, but I think it would be interesting to hear about times people attempted to trick the store and whether or not it was successful.
Love the show and now the podcast. Would love to see deep dives on individual toy lines, or even individual toys and all the different versions out there. Thought i would mention it seems like one of the things that cost alot of time is looking through hulls and units to figure out what they need to go on the floor. Have you considered something like a Tag Out system with Colored tags (safety tags would be a example) where when it comes in, once purchased quickly right on the tag what it's missing or if it's complete and twist the tag on, will add a few mins to putting the toys away but maybe save alot on the back end.
Thanks for the awesome podcast! I love it! I would love to hear about the vintage that sells the best and fastest. Maybe the items in the store that have been there the longest.
Here at More Fun Comics in New Orleans I've also noticed the cycles in vintage toy sales. At least in this area I've noticed a dip due to post-quarantine overload. Lots of collectors bought hoards of old toys during lock down and are now needing to scale down their collections. Similar to what you said in another video "You need one Skeletor Staff. I need 50." I think a lot of private collectors that don't see our storage spaces full of parts and incomplete figures are seeing the reality of being a toy retailer. I can only display about 50% of my toy inventory . That's a high number in comparison to larger stores than mine. Taking in large collections as a means to create a complete series means you'll be buying at LEAST twice what you need. Speaking of which; if anyone needs a few dozen Ewok Village tree posts let me know.
Great episode guys! Like others have said maybe bring in and share your most valuable (maybe not even monetarily) prized collectable and maybe how you acquired it where and why.
I'm similar to Ryan, a lot of my toys growing up were given away to my nephews and such...I used to have a ton of MOTU and TMNT that were all handed down. Although all of my Joe's essentially were ruined from playing with them in the bathtub and that submarine vehicle. Some topic suggestions: 1. What is something you "collected" as a child (toy or non-toy), and do you still have that collection today? 2. Something you collect now as an adult that's not a "toy"?
There's too many people who got into collecting over the last 5 years or so just for the perceived or potential value of something. Not for any real love of a given property. It really sucks for those of us who have been in this hobby for 40+ years because we genuinely love the characters and their stories. 15 years or so ago, people on GI Joe message boards would send extra figures or even vehicle parts, or complete vehicles to someone that needed them, for free. Just to help a fellow collector and lover of GI Joe complete their collection. No way someone would do that now.
Really enjoy watching fellow nerds nerd. curious how you all got into this and when you decided to open the store. Big purchase regrets are always fun topics because we all have them. Also items that you willingly paid too much for just because you needed them, for the store or personally. keep nerding... we'll be listening.
The fact remains that shops like TF are the equivalent of a pawn shop. If you want any value out of your collectibles you need to seek and deal with fellow collector.
I used to be like TF, buying selling vintage toys and collectables. Very rarely do I question my prices and everything you guys said and spot on. Somehow Mary Poppins got a call out in this video lol
Love the show, love the podcast. Thanks for doing this, it's wonderful! I had a question, maybe you could talk about it on the podcast, but how did all of ya'll meet, was it just just through the store, or have you all known eachother before that? Thanks again!
See I have the entire Thundercats collection except the Astral Moat Monster and Stilt Runner as I was given my much richer neighbours Thundercats collection when he aged out and I had a handful of figures. However I spend most of the time trying to just buy the accessories for each figure which no one understandable is willing to sell on their own, but still the collection is something people always seem excited about when they see my display.
The guy that played Galen (Mads Mikkelsen) was also the Bond villain in Casino Royale and plays Hannibal Lecter in the tv show “Hannibal”. Fantastic actor!!
I'd love a multi part series were each brings in a prized collection piece and discusses where it came from and why its in their collection. I'm sure that could generate some great discussion from the others at the table as well.
Do this
It would be great if TF made a show where they go around showing people's personal collections across the country
Keep up the good work guys.
this new podcast show is awesome
So glad you like it!
I love the show, and the podcast just adds the best extra topping to an already great thing. Thanks dudes!
I love that you guys started doing this. I’m not aware of other toy shops going on UA-cam and actually “talking” about the business side of things from the owner/shop point of view. I truly believe a lot of people need to see stuff like this. Thank you and I can’t wait for the next episode!
Somebody's nose is whistling. I thought it was me for the longest time 😂
The nose whistle is strong one this one!!
Ugh! I know!
😂😂I had to tell Ryan.. I think it’s Andy😆
Whistle booger is the 4th voice in this podcast! 😂
How long it take you to figure it out, fr? 😂😂😂
Great episode! Would love to hear more about what each of you collect for your personal collections and how you display them.
Keep that in mind
Yes these podcasts rock
You guys are doing so great!
Thanks!!
Absolutely love the podcast !!

classic booger whistle happening! 😎
"Cause our goal is to not sell anything. And hide it from you." Hahahaha! That's amazing.
Great show, just wish it was longer. Could listen to you guys geek out about everything, keep it coming guys!

The violin boyfriend from Ghostbusters was the bad guy in Beverly Hills Cop III.
It was killing our producer that we didn’t know
He was the bad guy in die hard too. He was a ballet dancer too. Andre gudenoff I think was his name and I think he died at 45 from hepatitis.

I love this podcast and Toy Federation main channel! One day I'll travel over for a Retro Toy Con and stop by!
Super interesting episode. It is is great to hear your guys perspective on the favorite episodes. Keep them coming!!
Loving the podcast and the discussions! Thanks!

Love the UA-cam channel your guys videos the knowledge you have is awesome 😎 keep up the good work in helping preserve history
Huge fan of the channel!!! Just started watching this week, love love love it!!!! Keep up the good work.

Hard to pick which is better the show or the pod…both are fantastic
I love, love, love this podcast series. Please keep doing it if you have the time! 🤘🏻🍻🍕

I started my collection with G.IJoes,LJN,Remco,Star Wars,and He Man..Then later on,TMNT...
Now that I'm grown with my own children,we watch and collect things together. I'm exclusive to wrestling figures and GI Joe Classifieds...Best figures out💯
Great show guys. Really enjoy it.
Never stop doing these.
It’s surprisingly awesome 👍👍
He's the most honest seller I've ever seen!
I know, what the market is in vintage toys and you can't argue with his estimates and prices.
I'm absolutely loving your podcast. I'd like to hear more about your trade vs. cash formula and the logic behind it. Also, I'm not sure if this it a topic you'd want to get into or not, but I think it would be interesting to hear about times people attempted to trick the store and whether or not it was successful.
I'm loving the podcast, boys! Congratulations!
Saturday morning geek time!! Love it! Idea for future episodes: maybe focus on one toy line each episode. Great stuff as usual.
I’ve got a sign up in my shop - This ain’t no.
Museum, all this junks for sale! Loving the podcast as well as the Videos.
This podcast is great. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and time. Gotta make it to your shop one day
Love you guys! Awesome pod! But I’ll tell you what the whistle got me lol I thought it was my dog I thought it was me I was going crazy 😂
Just keep doing what you're doing, i like it just how it is. Good stuff. Thanks guys.
Love the episode!!
I'm similar to Ryan, a lot of my toys growing up were given away to my nephews and such...I used to have a ton of MOTU and TMNT that were all handed down. Although all of my Joe's essentially were ruined from playing with them in the bathtub and that submarine vehicle.
Some topic suggestions:
1. What is something you "collected" as a child (toy or non-toy), and do you still have that collection today?
2. Something you collect now as an adult that's not a "toy"?
This was a damn good discussion so far about 10 minutes in.
Another great show 👍
I absolutely love the podcasts but the deals and the shop can't get enough of wish there was more uploads not just weekends more pls😎🇬🇧✌️
origin story from everyone would be interesting
Loving the podcast more than the episodes please consider one topic for an episode “how long will it be sustainable selling and collecting toys?”
Funny I used to watch comic book men - this channel seems to take from that but takes it to a new level
To be fair with a short enough roof and a big enough umbrella………
Really enjoy watching fellow nerds nerd. curious how you all got into this and when you decided to open the store. Big purchase regrets are always fun topics because we all have them. Also items that you willingly paid too much for just because you needed them, for the store or personally. keep nerding... we'll be listening.
I really enjoyed this one. Great work.
Thanks for being you! Subbed all accounts
The fact remains that shops like TF are the equivalent of a pawn shop. If you want any value out of your collectibles you need to seek and deal with fellow collector.
Another great episode keep them coming boys.
Really liking the podcast guys!👍 keep it up
The guy that played Galen (Mads Mikkelsen) was also the Bond villain in Casino Royale and plays Hannibal Lecter in the tv show “Hannibal”. Fantastic actor!!
Excellent vid!!! 😎 👍
You guys should do a whole podcast on just the Dreadknoks!!! 👍😁 Still my favorite figs of all time!!!
Dude! I used to think the same thing as a kid with jumping off the roof with an umbrella! Lmao..
Terrific new show
