Have you ever wanted to join the air force and take control of the skies in a fighter aircraft? Well now you can! Flight Deck is Canada's only inverted looping jet coaster and it’s right here at Canada’s Wonderland. Fighter pilots can climb aboard the simulated F-14 fighter jet and embark on their own air combat adventure to try to gain air superiority - a fighter's main purpose. It won’t be easy though as you travel almost 80 kilometers per hour through five inversions, so you’ll need great control, range, speed and maneuverability in this combat.

Ride 'The Great Nor'easter' at Morey's Piers, its the exact same coaster model but was retracked recently so its incredibly smooth.
Video stabilization did wonders for this ride 😂 rather deceptive

The1TheOnlyG2 so apparently In the late September it got padded head cushions so it’s not that bumpy anymore

Even with your head back, lateral motion is still too harsh.
Plenty of lateral head bashing in the restraint. Enjoy having your earrings beat into your head by this ride. If you like it rough, it's a bloody good experience none the less!
Great POV, very smooth! Although, the ride itself is quite rough, it’s really starting to show its age.
Totally, I get off of this every time with a headache.
When I went on last time, both my neck and my head were hurting after I got off.
@@LuminolBlue Funny you say this, Last time I went on "flight deck" (back when it was top gun and new) I remember it being a very smooth ride. Of course that was a loooong time ago lmao, I am sure the years have not been kind.
It was definitely NOT that rough when it opened in the 90s. Funny how it's showing its age, but Vortex has held up well.
@@ChristieAdamsKangoo I rode vortex a few weeks ago and I feel like it’s a little more rough now compared to a few years ago. Didn’t remember hurting before but now it does, only a little though
I love how you can see everyone running to Yukon as this must be right when the park opens.
Even though this ride makes me feel like my head is internally bleeding, i still love it
Honestly, I’ve always loved this coaster, even with the over the shoulder restraint system (the cause of the ear boxing). I’ve never really had much trouble keeping my head stationary on this ride, but I know a lot of people do find it a bit rough. It’s still one of my favourites.
I wonder if the vest style restraints like the ones on Yukon would make this a bit more tolerable?

I'm also really good at avoiding head banging. On top of me being super tall (just an inch and a half away from 6 foot), I'm also really good at fighting against the forces that push your head from side to side, leading to almost no head banging on this AND Time Warp. These two are very underrated coasters imo.
I felt my head being smashed around just watching this. Ow.

This is my absolute favorite ride of all time
My poor ears where nearly bleeding after that ride, my ears stick out and my head was shaking around so much in the harness or whatever my ears where burning red after that ride and I was legit crying at the end while laughing cause the actual ride was fun
my spine and neck will never be the same after that ride
I worked at this ride during my time as an employee. I've test road it so many times to the point where I can ride this with my hands up and not have a broken skull by the end 😂

This is a great ride. Only problem is the old style super tight harness that restricts your breathing unlike the new ones on Behemoth, etc.

Flight Deck is one of my favourite roller coasters at Canada's Wonderland. I've rode on it many times.

what a smooth and fun ride its probably my favourite ride there and the ride with least headbanging!
The best way to survive the onslaught of headbanging on vekoma slc's are to remember which way the train will turn and lean your head on the headrest opposite towards the direction you're turning. It will cushion the blow a little bit more and it won't be as bad. If you aren't sure of a turn, lean your head left as the ride tends to go right the majority of the time. It's better than not trying as you'll for sure smack your head on the restraints. As for the T3 restraints.. Just try NOT to get stapled and leave a bit of wiggle room for your legs. Sit in a weird position to where your legs go upwards so the ride ops don't push your restrain on click down too low. After that, relax your legs and maintain the restraint's position during the ride by holding it upwards. The inversions are breakpoints so you can let go for those small moments.
No one should have to read a manual before riding a 'safe' ride.
Honestly don't know why people drag on this ride so much, it's one of my favorites. The only painful spot to sit on this ride is the very back it feels the smoothest in the front
It's not as bad if you're short. It gets worse when you get to the height requirement for leviathan
@@rrods5097 yea I'm 5' 11" my shoulders are too broad for the restraints to be tight so there's a good inch gap for me

If they change the restraints this ride be much better. I don't remember which one, but they did that to another SLC and it's reportedly a good ride now. So it has potential

This is certainly the next coaster to use the new comfortable restraints found on Fly the Great Nor' Easter at Morey's Piers and the Riddler's Revenge at Six Flags New England.
Even though SLCs are known for being absolutely terrible (at least that’s how I portray it), I really liked this ride. Yeah, there is some head banging, but it’s not that bad if you sit in a specific way.
I honestly didn't find this ride that bad at all, I consider the roughness to be part of the experience - was last on at closing and went around many times with no issues till I closed my eyes on the last run and was nauseous for 6 hours after, lol.
I think it's worse if you worry about the roughness and try to prepare for it as you may stiffen up your body and feel it worse, I just relax and loosen up and have no issues.

Yeah. I've never understood why people complain about it hurting so much. It's not exactly smooth, but it's nowhere near as bad as people try to make it seem. "I got a migraine, a bruised neck, a broken spinal cord, a cracked tailbone, and I'm paralyzed from the waist down."
I was at Canadas wonderland yesterday and decided to go on flight deck with my sister, my head kept on banging back-and-forth on the two plastic bits beside your head I got neck pains and was scream crying The entire ride it hurts so bad please when you’re on this ride keep your head back as I could not my head flew forward and terrified me. The harness around you it’s so tight it makes it quite hard to breathe, but over all it is fun if you enjoy scary-ish roller coasters, I recommend it! But this is just a summary of my experience on the ride
I remember multiple years ago an a super hot day I went on this and it was so smooth, sadly it was an odd ride because later that day I got a headache riding it. Coming back to this video, I never appreciated the layout of the track and the g's you get, they are phenomenal. Such a shame its so rough, this would easily be in my top 5 if it was smoother.
Try the Great Nor'Easter at Morey's Piers. It's basically this ride but smoother and with better restraints.
Underrated ride
underrated. when i rode it, it was smooth, and overall really fun! cant say the same for time warp however.
I'm going to Toronto in August and this is my top spot to visit cant wait

Here in Brazil we have a very similar roller coaster! It's called Fire Whip.
Good ride
Dont understand the hate,, one of my favorites for the intensity of the drop. I notice its much better to ride without keeping your head against the rest even though safety protocols says so, you dont seem to be at risk that way and don't end up colliding with the restraint constantly.
The reason this ride gets a bunch of hate is because it is a Vekoma SLC. Those things bang your head around no matter how hard you brace for the godawful transitions. Plus they’re cloned all over the entire globe, as most of them have the same boring and uninspired layout.
Sure some SLCs ride better than others, but they’re still the same thing, with or without any head-banging, depending if the train has vest restraints or not.
1:31 is the best part of the ride

Good old top gun.... was scared to death of this ride for a long time working my way up to it. Finally rode it and damn it was fun....... Used to have the longest lineup back in the 90s though and spending 2 hours wasn't a time efficient way to spend my time unfortunately.
I see nothing wrong with the ride. No roughness, no camera shaking, such a smooth ride. (JK I know that SLC’s are rough rides, but I have never been on one.)

Keep you head pinned to the back of your seat as much as possible. Cannot stress this enough. My all-time favourite roller-coaster

Add the part where your head slams back and forth while holding your feet up hoping your legs dont get taken off and then you wait in the queue at the end thats longer than the awesome ride. This is an SLC Looper, appreciate all the finer points!!
went on this last summer of 2022. i was 12, chickened out at the last minute and waited for my brother (age 10) and my dad to finish riding it. they both hated it because of how rough it was and it was super shaky. my brother's glasses fell off halfway through the ride, so don't wear any loose accessories :) honestly would not recommend, but it seemed fun, so you do you! good luck
This ride hurts my neck
I used to live this ride when it first came out. Very smooth, and as long as you pushed your head back against the headrest like the voiceiver instructions say, your head and neck will be fine. The age of the ride may have roughened up the experience though.
Canada’s Wonderland is one of the best theme parks I’ve ever been to. That is excepting when I got severe pain for hours after sticking my head out on this ride accidentally lol.
Imagine they just put a B&M invert in its place, same design same theme and all
Just rode this for the first time last night. Sure I would have loved it...if I could have seen anything... forgot I was still wearing my glasses and had to focus on holding them for dear life instead of enjoying the ride lol. But I'm looking forward to next time and riding again 😁👍

I cry everytime when I think about flight deck knowing we could have gotten a b&m invert.
I'm 35 and remember visiting this park almost every summer in the 90s, how dreadfully long the line for Top Gun always was, and the grounds being littered with cigarette buds (people were allowed to smoke in lines back then)
Those were the days brother! The line was minimum 2 hours in ‘96.
If you’re paranoid enough to ride this, let me say one thing.
You don’t got a headache? *Congratulations, now you have one.*
This ride seriously needs to go. It was so good 20+ years ago, nice and smooth, but now it may as well be a wooden coaster. So damn bumpy and just completely unenjoyable at this point.
Fun fact: When building Flight Deck (Top Gun) two teams started working from either end of the loading station. The goal is to meet in the middle. When the meet up of both ends came they were off by over a foot. This forced a re-shaping of some track sections to try and undue the error.
I believe this is why the ride is much rougher than intended, and it’s only gotten worse over the years.
The safety and integrity of Wonderland’s rides has always been priority #1 so don’t think I’m bashing the park at all. I’ve been going since it opened!

Day in the day when it was new, it was a fun ride.
Now it’s only a fast way to ruin your day, the headache neck pain and so on.
If you insist on riding it, do it at the end of your day
New trains Canada's Wonderland! This seriously needs the new Vekoma SLC trains. They are way more comfortable than the classic hang and bang torture chairs on it now.
The fact that this could've been a B&M invert if the park was just a few kilometers further from Cedar Point...

Well it does feel like flying a plane with g forces and I don't if you noticed but basically the whole background especially the loading station of flight deck is designed to look like an airport
well, i think its better than trying to shake off an enemy plane while they're shooting at you trying to blow you up from the sky. This flight deck is safer :D
This and time warp will probably be replaced by 2030
