Its Unfair How This is Better Than The Manga of Oshi no Ko in Everyway

  • Most manga fans can only dream to see their favorite series get an anime adaptation like Oshi no Ko Season 2 Episode 1. The artistic freedom of expression the Animation Staff did for this episode is stunning beyond belief. You can tell they wanted to teach the audience about VA work, to why there's cut / skipped content in anime adaptations.

I love how the anime made it more obvious how Arima and Akane in this play is being given unfamiliar and opposite roles as a means to improve. Akane, who normally excels in pure acting has to learn to adapt. Arima, who has learnt to be very adaptable, is being tested on pure acting skills.

On the other hand, though, if you look just character-wise and not acting/role-wise, they are basically playing themselves. Akane's is a meek introspective one that was forced to become someone else to be used by the plot (yeah, Aqua, does that ring a bell? 😂) and Kana's is energetic and takes center stage if given the chance.

The first three minutes served two narrative purposes:
the first was to introduced the basic plot of Tokyo Blade and its characters, the other was to visually show was is a stage play, I think there is a part in the manga just before chapter 41 where they were explaining what a 2.5D stage play is and the anime production decided that it would be better to show what is a 2.5D stage play instead of explaining what it is while giving us an artistic performance. I cannot applaud them more than I already am for this creative choice.

A manga can still have all of that the art style can play into that. A good artist can draw the facial expressions in ways that it works just as well as an anime and even better so at times in my opinion. However there are rare occasions where an anime does do better than a manga this is a rare situation.

The one thing I love about how Oshi no Ko has been getting adapted is how it brings the scenes from the manga to life. And sure, obviously there's the idol aspect of Ruby with there being music; but there's also Aqua's side where he's an actor not because he wanted to be, but to dig out his mother's killer. But in Aqua's side, you get to see things in details that normally wouldn't come to life from manga panels. Usually there'd be extra story content that expands the story even further or filler content to reach the episode length of 23 minutes. I love the direction it took with the intro because it's quite immersive. The intro just makes it very clear to us that this arc is focusing on a famous manga's stage adaptation and even hints at it in the early rehearsals of the play. I'm probably just yapping about this, but if we get more anime that bridges the concept of plays or filmmaking, this is the best example of how it's done right!

4:33 Strong parrellels with Oshi No Ko's anime being an adaptation of a manga... it's like they're simultaneously adapting Oshi No Ko into a screen play aswell! Or another kind of play? Hmmm... or are they adapting the screen play in the manga, to a painting, in the anime? Sorry, just a bit of random speculation here!
11:53 Cough cough, the classroom of the elite and the main protag just being monotone as a pose to expressing and emoting himself in the manner he does in the light novel... They should make a game for Tokyo Blade like Paper Mario where the audience is present and you play the combat on the stage and going through the entire story for said audience.

It’s incredible how Dogakobo is managing to keep such a high animation quality whilst putting out so many shows at the same time

I think you're short cutting manga a little bit saying the only thing I can have is beautiful art. Page composition and panelling make a big difference
