How do you teach your dog down(/lay/drop) using this? Doing the “bring hand to the ground” just teaches him to follow my hand and not my voice. How do I force him to lay down and listen to my voice?
The hand signal for sit and lie down are very different. Using the right hand signals combining them with the verbal cues make a big difference. I explain and show how to teach the "Lie Down" command in this video: ua-cam.com/video/a-63ZeIqwkY/v-deo.htmlsi=f184diNpU7aCHd56
what if Harvey didnt stay would you keep taking him back to that sot and repeating with a shorter distance? i love this treat free training its amazing how many trainers say it cant be done
Welcome! If you have a dog that does not care about treats, you are in the right place. All my videos and lessons are done without the use of treats. Let me know if this works and if you have nay questions.
Saro, Can I train my dog three times a day as long as it is of appropriate length of time. I have most of the summer off and want to get the dog trained ASAP before no longer having the time. Currently I have a 5 month old Bernedoodle. I train about 5 min morning and evening. I'd like to add a mid day session. Thanks.
Over-training could be an issue. I suggest 15 minutes of daily training using my method which implements play and praise reward system, if possible. If not using my training method, once a week,, 30 minute session should be enough.
Saro, just wanted you to know your method for training without treats is backed by solid science. Gregory Berns, a neuroscientist at Emory University, Found that the majority of the dogs he examined by MRI, showed the caudate nucleus which contains most of the dopamine(pleasure) receptors, lit up most often with their owners praise (of course there were some who only wanted snacks!) Sorry, I spent my working life in science...
I am aware of it. Thank you for thinking of me. Coincidentally, I'll be posting a video, on Tuesday, where I will talk about this finding and the results of this study and research. It is amazing. This study was done a few years ago and I shared a short video about it then but now I will dive in deeper more. I posted this video on Sep 7, 2017. ua-cam.com/video/rZohUKIMQbk/v-deo.html
Hi Saro, good video. Thank you in advance :) I would like to ask because I have read that beagles are prone to epilepsy. Will ALL beagles get this at certain age or no? Also my beagle is very hyper, she is almost 5 months now. At what age will she calm down?
Beagles are not known to epilepsy as far as I know an d as long as I've had beagles. Most common reason dogs or beagles will have epilepsy is due to the diet of kibble or dry food. They are processes food and contain tons of chemicals and toxins which will cause the development of epilepsy and other health issues. Puppies are hyper and energetic dogs. They are going to stay happy and energetic most of their lives until they physically are not able anymore.

Hello Saro and thanks for the videos. My question is my dog will follow me and when I stop he automatically sits. I want to teach him the sit command. I'm not sure how to do that.

Lovely video and Harvey is amazing and cute👌. We just got a beagle male puppy 2 months old. I am going to start training seeing your video which seems very simple 👍. But my puppy is biting the leash all the time. How to make him stop biting? Pls help
If a puppy is biting the leash, that means that it is frustrated. It could be because you are not clear on the tasks you are asking it to do or the puppy is not in the right mood or maybe even is tired. So, could be that the training session is at the wrong time or puppy could be in the wrong mood. So, pay attention when you are setting the training time. I suggest it to be after the walk or any physical activity like play time... Also, keep the training session short. Maximum 15 minutes. You may also want to remove the leash and use a toy to reward your puppy or just use your energy and praise it. Try these tips in the next upcoming training session and see how it goes. Please update me and if it is not working out, let me know and we will discus more solutions.
It is better to use harness for puppies and senior dogs or use for training. You can also use the collar for everyday use but harness is for training. I've done a video about harnesses that you can watch it here: ua-cam.com/video/_K7CN4TO-rg/v-deo.html
Hey saro, I have a 3 month old amstaff. I've started to train him to sit recently, but a problem I'm having is he keeps trying to chew the leash. It's very distracting to him. I have better luck without the leash but I understand the importance of using the leash. Any tips to get him to stop chewing the leash?
Yes. Most of the time when dogs react or chew the leash, is because they are communicating to us that they are not happy, being under control of the human. They are just expressing that they don't want to be told what what to do. this happens mainly because most dog owners give too much freedom to the dog in the beginning so the dog is free to do whatever and when you block the freedom, they feel uncomfortable and are unfamiliar with it. I suggest you to start building a verbal cue to address the negative or unwanted behaviours of your dog. Please watch the following video and learn how to teach it. In this video, I am using food as example, but you can use the leash and do the same thing. After watching it, please let me know if you have any follow up questions. ua-cam.com/video/jYU2fsj6iqA/v-deo.html

Mr.Saro my dog listens to me only when I have a toy. When I just praise her she doesn't care and looks bored. What should I do so she would listen to me without getting anything out of it?
Practice 10 times with a toy and remove the toy and practice about 5 without the toy. Repeat this for few days till you get better results. Also, watch the following videos to learn more. This video shows how I teach the sit command with a toy to my puppy: ua-cam.com/video/i2noOiw2fh0/v-deo.html Also, in this video I talk about why you are not getting results when training your dog: ua-cam.com/video/i2noOiw2fh0/v-deo.html

gotta question why do you wait til your dogs are 4 months old to start training then ive always got a strong bond and while doing that potty training then i once i had a barly 3 week old high end puppy lady said if you can save her you can have her so i was her mother did what a moma dog would do Bella made it to one year didnt know she had a bad uti when i got her fixed
Formal training starts at 4 months and older but training at puppy level starts at any age younger than 4 months. ua-cam.com/video/8royd4vYGio/v-deo.html
Are dogs who are very high strung difficult to train ?babysat a 1 year old toy poodle who had anxiety ? Hyperactive ? High strung behaviour.. exercised first but after a week still no progress like zero
I have a German Shepherd and he only listens when he sees treats it's a little difficult to get him to look at me and not around his surroundings I'm teaching him to stay but he looks around when I tell him to sit how can I get him to look at me and what should I do if he doesn't do as I say?
Your dog doesn't need to look at you as long as its doing the task but you will get that after you have practiced and done it for a long time. You also need to be more animated and excited. I show it all in the following video: ua-cam.com/video/87LPfD-Vg1Y/v-deo.html
If my puppy sees that I have some treats he does everything I ask him but if I don't she doesn't...it semms that she isn't affected by my praise or affection at all..how should I put treats out of the obedience equation?
Jesus why didn't i think about that exercise before training makes so much since there's a lot more to dog training than i thought I've always had just pets with potty taring come hear stop that things like that but a 100% all the time no matter what or where i am its all new to me
I tried this several times pulling collar up and trying to push her butt down. The problem is she resists and I can’t push her butt down 🤷♀️ so I don’t accomplish anything
That's because you just go to asking it to sit. Start with some exercise such as walks or playing with your dog and then ask it to sit. Update me how that goes.
@@SaroDogTraining My beagle doesn't "play" I guess because she's a rescue dog so I've been trying to practice after walking her in the yard. I think she's a bit better but it depends. She doesn't make eye contact so she just relies on hearing me say "sit" and then I try pushing her butt down. Of course it doesn't work when she's distracted with something(especially food). I will keep trying. I really enjoy all your videos!
Training is not the only solution. The mindset need to be considered as well. I don't know the details of how long you had your beagle and so on but most likely, you need to develop a bond and trust first before you develop a communication which is developed by training. Focus on those and if you want to get a deeper understanding of it, get my free training and start there. sarodogtraining.com/training/
My dog will just sit and not want to get up again. I try to signal hi to get up so we can have many repetitions. He just wants to stay seated the whole training session.
How old is your dog? Usually the cause for that is because you are not having fun and may be acting as you are training a soldier which is not fun. You need to get more animated and be fun so your dog can have fun and connect with you.
No matter how young, you can still train it to get used to it. You can use harness instead of collar. Don't feel bad keeping your dog on leash and under control. Your puppy/dog will appreciate it more than you feel bad.
@sarodogtraining Personally I know there are more effective and humane ways of teaching an animal but I'm not saying you should or shouldn't use those techniques as long as you understand that they can in fact be aversive and they do utilize negative reinforcement
I totally understand, and you're not alone! Training can be challenging, especially with certain dogs. But remember, every dog is unique and has their own pace. I'm here to help you navigate through this journey and find effective ways to work with your dog's personality and behaviors. Feel free to share more about your dog, and we can explore some tailored strategies together! 🐶🐾

Thank you for sharing your perspective. It's important to note that every trainer may have their own methods and techniques based on their experience and expertise. While some trainers may use certain techniques that involve physical guidance, it's crucial to prioritize the well-being and comfort of the dog during training. As a trainer, I am committed to promoting positive and force-free training methods that focus on building trust, establishing clear communication, and reinforcing desired behaviors. These techniques aim to create a positive and harmonious relationship between the dog and the owner, without resorting to force or intimidation. I understand that different approaches may resonate with different people, and it's important to find a trainer whose methods align with your beliefs and values. If you have any specific concerns or questions about my training approach, I'm more than happy to address them and provide further clarification.
Toys and games are natural and healthy forms of interactions. They are not distractions but form of interactions. I explain more in the following video: ua-cam.com/video/TJlYNgD3b-M/v-deo.html

@@sofienegueraini3451 exactly, and they will not in this case sit without the treat.

gotta question why do you wait til your dogs are 4 months old to start training then ive always got a strong bond and while doing that potty training then i once i had a barly 3 week old high end puppy lady said if you can save her you can have her so i was her mother did what a moma dog would do Bella made it to one year didnt know she had a bad uti when i got her fixed
That is caused by hyper activeness. This will explain. ua-cam.com/video/H9Ob39L0Nxs/v-deo.html
Finally someone who gets to the point not spending the whole video promoting dog food
Amen!
What if they fight back when u try to put them in a sitting position!?!?!? *I know this was 4 years ago but pls help!!!!!*
Try exercising it physically for about 30 minutes to bring down the energy level before you train it.
@@SaroDogTraining ohhhhhhh this makes sense
Your dog already knows how to sit
My dog was used as demo. Here is a video that I show how to train a puppy using play and praise reward system. ua-cam.com/video/87LPfD-Vg1Y/v-deo.html
Sit is something which Rio gets always confused... Or never do... He mixes with laydown... So I m restarting teaching it again
Clarity is very important when training.
Did it work tall
If my puppy sees that I have some treats he does everything I ask him but if I don't she doesn't...it semms that she isn't affected by my praise or affection at all..how should I put treats out of the obedience equation?

Jesus why didn't i think about that exercise before training makes so much since there's a lot more to dog training than i thought I've always had just pets with potty taring come hear stop that things like that but a 100% all the time no matter what or where i am its all new to me
My dog does not like toys. How can I practice with him when he doesn't care about the toy?
Use praise instead. Both verbal and physical praise.
@@SaroDogTraining thank you so much for your response! He responds so well to your method, and he wasn't trainable before.
7 weeka
What if my dog Keeps going around a pole/tree?
My dog does that all the time! PLS help me!
Do you mean as a play or obsession? Simply keep it on leash for a while so your dog does not practice and repeat that behaviour.
Saro Boghozian I'm s-o sorry my dog is very young and she Doesn't like being leashed. Btw we just got It and we Havens Done her vaccinees.
Sorry for auto corect fail
No matter how young, you can still train it to get used to it. You can use harness instead of collar. Don't feel bad keeping your dog on leash and under control. Your puppy/dog will appreciate it more than you feel bad.
0:02 Harvey and I get that!!!
how is pulling up on the leash and pushing the dog into a sit classified as not using tools??
I am not using aversive tools or methods.
@@SaroDogTraining pushing the dog into a sit and using a No Reward Marker can be aversive
Actually praise and petting can be aversive if the dog doesn't want to be touched too
@sarodogtraining Personally I know there are more effective and humane ways of teaching an animal but I'm not saying you should or shouldn't use those techniques as long as you understand that they can in fact be aversive and they do utilize negative reinforcement
i tried it but it didn't work
Sorry to hear that. This method is for those who have a deep connection with their dogs.
my beagle destroys every toy i give her, how do i fix this?

What do you do when a dog refuses to play? Mine looks at you and wants to be pet.
Use praise to reward your dog for start and soon, you will be able to add play to the training.
Why does harvy look like that he looks like he does not want to be there lol

You may be a fine trainer but pulling up on the leash and pushing down on the dogs but is force which the intro disclaims
Why is using a toy a superior method than a treat? isn't it also a form of distraction as you said ?
Toys and games are natural and healthy forms of interactions. They are not distractions but form of interactions. I explain more in the following video: ua-cam.com/video/TJlYNgD3b-M/v-deo.html
Tried this method but sadly didn't work
What happened?
@@SaroDogTraining I used force method and Everytime I told him to sit, he didn't listen
You shouldn't be using force and instead you should use play and praise.
I pulled the leash but he started choking😂
If your puppy or dog is not responsive to the leash use a toy or praise to encourgae to do so. Here are 2 vieos that you can watch and see as I show it. ua-cam.com/video/87LPfD-Vg1Y/v-deo.html and also this: ua-cam.com/video/TIuDejIzPbk/v-deo.html
