      Greetings. My biggest challenge with my beagle son “Max” is that he takes off every time a door is open, he never listens, is like he needs to run away and doesn’t look back. He was rolled over by a motorcycle once and my concern is that he could be killed.. he is 4 years old do you think he can learn? Thanks for your videos

    This is an awesome video. My beagle puppy will come after 20 days and I am asking many Beagle owners about training and behavior. All most all the owners said that you can train a beagle only when the puppy is hungry and give some treats during training. But your logic is right. Thank you sir....🙏

    Thank you Saro, this is such a great lesson! I’ve adopted Jimmy 15 months ago, he was already one year old more or less (he was found so age is not certain) and he is an amazing dog but obsessed with food and unpredictable, so I can’t unleash him even if we live in the country side but not so far from roads and cars… I will definitely try this!
    I was wondering if you ever made a lesson on how to teach the dog not to react and bark to other dogs when on leash. Jimmy is quite reactive to other dogs but only when on leash.
    Thank you! 🙏🏼

    We just rescued a beagle. We have 5 chihuahuas and now Buddy the beagle. He’s very food motivated. He barks severely loud however it’s beautiful.

    • @SaroDogTraining
      @SaroDogTraining  4 роки тому

      It's not food motivated. It is just giving food too much importance. You shouldn't limit yourself to the food. Remove that thoughts from your mind and focus on other motivations such as play and praise. The following video will help more: ua-cam.com/video/TJlYNgD3b-M/v-deo.html

    My beagle is 4.
    He comes every time.
    I started on the leash like you did
    But without treats you will never train a beagle.
    Over time you don't need any.
    But I still give him one because it's how I reward him for good behaviour.

    First rule of dog training, never give a command you cannot enforce. I remember a friend who had a Australian shepherd. This dog would go to the fence line (cattle fence, barbed wire) and his owner would call him to come. The dog would look back and the man 110 yard away, shrug its shoulders and turn back to go through the fence. The owner's hysterical screaming and swearing didn't bother the dog at all. In the end, the dog took to worrying the neighbor's calves and had to be put down, which is a shame, as it was the owner's fault.

    Haha! My beagle follows his nose always. He won’t come when I ask. So to train him to come, I first have to train him to ‘sit’ and ‘stay’ 😂😂

    • @SaroDogTraining
      @SaroDogTraining  3 роки тому +2

      Yes, you build the training techniques one step at a time. You first teach A and then B and so on before you teach your beagle to write a sentence. Recall or asking the beagle to come is writing a sentence. It's a higher level of training. Does that make sense?

Any tips?

      First off, I want to say that you're absolutely capable of developing the relationship and behavior you want with your dog, but it’s important to keep expectations realistic, especially when working with a rescue. When adopting a dog, it might take a bit more time, patience, and effort to see progress compared to other situations. While many dogs can show great results after a year of training, with rescues, the journey might look a little different.

In my case, we're in the house with access to 3 areas and the leash is dragging while she's running around playing. She comes 90% of the time, but when I ask her to come and she chooses CATS or any other distraction and also refuses a sit or down, what do I do? I find myself repeatedly yelling COME louder and sterner and I don't like where I'm headed with that. Plus it doesn't work. Suggestions?

    Positive reinforcement is good for your pet. Not giving them treats doesn’t say “I love you!” It says “I don’t care that you just did what I asked you just do it because you are my possession and not my pet and loyal companion.”

      @SaroDogTraining  3 роки тому +2

      An hour of exercise for a puppy is simply too much. It brings up their adrenaline and it is harder to control them. Try a 15-minute play/exercise and then do a 15-minute of training using play and praise and finally end the session with another 15-minute play.

      I feel that you two haven't connected deeply and there is not trust between you two therefore it doesn't allow you to touch it. You need to start building a deeper relationship before anything so everything can start changing and improving. The way you do that is by starting to provide your beagle's daily five essential needs. Watch the following video to learn more: ua-cam.com/video/HMQIIzyGyYw/v-deo.html

    How can I train my beagle not to jump my fence and get out of my yard? I have about a 4 & 1/2 ft privacy fence and my husband does not want a taller fence, nor does he want an electric fence. My beagle got out of our yard and onto someone's farm along with another dog and killed one of his turkeys. My dog was put in doggy jail for 10 days. Please help with your great training advice.

    I'll soon have a beagle that comes from a laboratory. It was a ethical lab so I know she have been treated well but; She haven't been socialised and I was the one who brought her outside for a walk for the first time of her life. We made a lot of progress since! She is still very anxious and sometimes during a walk, she will stop, sit and refuse to go in a specific direction. Any tips on how to get her through that invisible wall she doesn't want to cross?

    • @SaroDogTraining
      @SaroDogTraining  4 роки тому

      That is a common and natural behaviour that dogs may do. I suggest focusing on training your beagle at home more often than outside for the next few months to help to bring her confidence up and follow your direction and cues. Start with the basics of obedience training. Focus on teaching command for a few weeks for 15 minutes a day and then move on to the next command. This way she will start bonding and focusing on you while gaining confidence to improve not only the walk but all other aspects of her life. Watch the following videos to start training her at home: ua-cam.com/video/2CvtFcNJTuM/v-deo.html

    OUr 6 month old beagle has already had too many treats. Now when we call him he just looks in our hands and then decides if he wants to come or not. it is sooo frustrating. Seems like he is going through a disobedience phase where he is doing things he knows we dont like for attention.

    Hi! I got my 3yo male beagle during quarantine. I’m starting to leave him home for periods of time, I guess I’ll have to go out for work again one day😥. Must I crate him all day? It seems too much because I crate him at night. Thanks

    • @SaroDogTraining

      Think ahead and start researching dog daycares or pet sitters nearby. It is not fair to be in a crate all day long and night. Your beagle didn't sign up for that.

      With any hunting breed type of dogs, it all comes down to how and why the dog was bred for. If it was bred for hunting, it will be ideal if the dog lives a hunting life. There is nothing you can do if the hunting drive is on. The only thing that you can do is try to control it. That means lots of obedience training especially the recall command. I share some tips and ideas in this video. ua-cam.com/video/b1ku6HJNHPM/v-deo.html

      @@SaroDogTraining, That’s really not true. Just like Humans dogs have personality and think differently. Some dogs are food motivated and some aren’t. To act like their your possession and don’t think for themselves is ignorant. “Using treats makes them only come when you use treats.” Is so what an infant or robots do that don’t think for themselves. 🙄 Not all dogs think or act the same. Please be less ignorant.

      @@SaroDogTraining, Dogs will realize that if they come and you reward it they know you liked the behavior. Over time they will learn to do this with or without the treat.
