Eek! An ex and I attended couples therapy a few years back. It didn’t feel right when the therapist tried to validate both our perspectives related to this ex’s cheating, lies and forcing physical intimacy. 🤔 I left the relationship as it became clear that my heart was not safe and we couldn’t find support
Everyone should discuss about verbal , emotional , psychological abuse in this century …of course besides the physical abuse that everyone is clear about …..
I did not know you waited as long as you did to get a doctorate. I get my BA in Psychology less than 3 months and was not sure whether to get my Master's or go straight for a doctorate, but I think your advice has helped me make a clear decision. I mostly want to be a practicing therapist or mental health counselor. I find a lot of value in psychotherapy and also think CBT is only surface level therapy that does not really get to the source of our issues and heal from them.
I love CBT as well, but I had a therapist who let me know she is a CBT therapist and I thought, well how do you know that’s what I need before even starting our first session?
I am sorry but I am from Brazil and I am doing a course from a Psychology Professor about pseudoscience and It is said that psychoanalysis is psedoscience. Considering Popper and other theories about what is science I must agree with this classification. I am also reading the book called: The Black Book of Psychoanalysis and I can agree with a lot of concepts there. What do you think about this, please? CBT made me more focused and secure in therapy than ever before as well. Just talking therapy is not for me, or the way people use psychoanalysis here in Brazil as well. However, I see some useful things from your videos and learned a lot about attachment theory and psychodynamic. thanks!
I pretty much have done my own research and study of human behavior and mental health disorders. I am astonished at the lack of not only knowledge but not putting much effort into becoming a better therapist. When I make a mistake or don't understand where the client is, I feel I have done them a disservice and try to rectify it. Thank you so much Dr. Honda for leading the way
Yeah, I think some clinicians aren't nerdy enough about psychology, research, and history. Also, given how much there is to learn, I think some people just give up.
I feel like my therapist is grooming my wife....I've seen him for over a year now, and my wife started with him about 2 months ago. All of a sudden, my therapist is against me, and our last couple's session, he screamed at me, "Your marriage isn't going to survive!" and he screamed it in the waiting room...I know my wife hasn't felt comfortable with being vulnerable with him, so he spends most of the time in their sessions babying her.
You said some abusers use the confrontation of therapy to kill their partner..Have you heard of parents who kill or become deadly threatening toward young adult children especially if/when the adult child stood up/confronted their abuse?

Yikes. I'm sorry you went through that.

Yeah. I got my BA in 1993, MA in 1997, and PsyD in 2014. I never thought I'd go back to school after my master's.
"Feminine, problematic emotions ". That's a good one😂 And yes, I do have a lot of them😂😊
Ha!

Yeah, you tell them, Kirk!

Can you do a video on Sean and Erica couples therapy show on Showtime? I would also like to hear your insight/input on the relationship.
Yeah, it's on the list. I love that show.
I could not do straight CBT because it felt incredibly invalidating.
