    Is this going to be continued? Or has it been elsewhere? I can't seem to find a part 4? - I'm really enjoying this and it's helping me so much in my uni work, I'd love to see more!

    I think using a board like the one you show at 2:16 is a good idea, with a mild, medium, and spicy zone. You could have it where the outside is safer, but less rewarding, but the inside is where all the treasure is (but also danger). Maybe have events or actions open or close paths deeper inside, so it's a combination of chance, choice, and ability to work your way deeper into the temple.
    You could make it where collecting or taking treasures closes paths or makes the game more dangerous, and allow spending treasures to open up doors (like the valuable talisman is actually the key to opening a secret exit). If you can make it *feel* like the players are participating in an Indiana Jones movie, then I'd call it a success.
    Each of the treasures could be unique, and have different values and effects. For example, the snakes may go after whoever has the Snake Charm, or the ancient gods become awakened if someone takes the Eye of Ra.
    "But it's so valuable, guys. C'mon, we can take those ancient gods..."
    "I said leave it!"
    "Ok... but what if I... take it anyways?"
    Betrayal!
    "Ok, good luck with those ancient gods. I'm out!" (and then he gets smashed by a wall cuz that's what always happens to betrayers).

    Hi All - It's part three of our adventure in making a modern board game and time to review the options on how our game will end and who will win. Don't forget to vote on your favorite option on the communities tab on the main channel !

    I love Young Frankenstein!
    Anywho, another awesome video. Lots to think about. The tug of war idea got me thinking that we could have crystals as well as curses. When you do something that angers the Snake God, you get a curse. Too many collective curses could prematurely end the game and everyone loses. (The temple entrances all close, etc)
    This way it’s a more strategic balance. You’re still wanting to win, but have to keep one eye on the global curse meter.

      Yep that’s exactly what I think this mechanism would be perfect for. I really do like the idea of something that potentially works against ALL players!
      Also yep Young Frankenstein rocks!

    Your piece on Resources sparked 2 ideas. 1: Each player has their own pool/bag of various snakes of various lengths and various abilities. If there is bag pulling, you may not always know which type of snake you're pulling because of the different patterns/colors of snakes. 2 : Resources are linking pieces that make up your snake. Sometimes its better to grow and add links to your snake, maybe you want to "shed" and send links back to your pool or steal from others.
    And thanks for the Building Blocks of Tabletop Game Design recommendation. Ordered.

      Ooh clever idea Justin! This takes things in another direction making it much more a family /party game.
      And yes the book is expensive but honestly it’s really worth it I think.

    Another way to end a game is when every player have done doing their thing. I don't recall the name, but a game i know gave each player several options to use actions in a "1 action per turn" fashion until everyone pass. It's not usual, but it is a thing.
    In my game there is an endgame condition that doubles as a winning move (rescuing the 3rd creature) but there are a separate endgame condition (a deck running out) and winner determinator (the most creatures rescued) that happens way too often. Let's say a 3 creatures win is the hard mode, as it's difficult to achieve before the deck runs out, hence giving the players a push to optimize their playstyle.

      Hmm does that mean if one player has completed their actions then they have could have some downtime until the others have completed ?
      Also how far through are you on your own game now?

    • @Erynus
      @Erynus 3 роки тому

      @@GamingIndoors I don't remember it too well, but i remember actions were fast and there werent too many options if other players passed, so maybe a couple of minutes from the first player passing until the endgame. Maybe i'm misremembering, though.
      I'm in the everlasting playtesting phase, i have even a prototype in Tabletopia open for whoever want to give it a try, i posted it on Reddit, as i think this isn't the place to do it. So far, until i have enough feedback to balance it, i'm messing around with the layout, graphics and trying to spot points of failure. I'm interested in feedback on the rulebook, as english is not my native language, i think there can be some weird sentences or unclear points that could use a better elaboration, but i haven't had any feedback yet.

    If you did want to have secret agendas, you could have a public one for a team victory and a secret one for a selfish solo victory. This will make the players have to choice between helping their friends, or secretly perusing their own goals.

      "Secret agendas," does seem to be the way people are voting at the moment... secrets bring tension and in a game tension is nearly always good :)

    The reason people enter the temple could be a yearly rite. While in the temple they have to collect crystals that will keep the village safe from the dangerous Great Snake deity one year long, or they must be used inside the temple (maybe modyfying the location of resources or the map of corridors and rooms) to accomplish some task requested in order to keep the Great Snake in its state of continuous sleep. The temple-adventurer that collects the most useful crystals or that completes first all the tasks will be honoured by the village one year long, until the next rite.

    What about combining victory points with player elimination? After one player gets eliminated, the remaining player that has the most victory points wins. That could make other players helping the weakest one from getting eliminated.
    But for the snakes and ladders game, it might be fun to work with supplies: a finite amount of resources, and the deeper you go into the temple the more resources you use, but the more gold you can loot

      Hey that’s not a bad idea - I like the push you luck element that this suggests!

  • @gmeaki02
    @gmeaki02 3 роки тому

    A game could end by agreement of the players, say if they all didn't want to push their luck any more. This would need hidden VPs or those not in the lead wouldn't want to end.

    • @GamingIndoors

      I guess this a version of they play until someone passes ? I like the idea of hidden VPs though!
