I managed an Italian restaurant that has been running for 38 years. The majority of the guest are people who’ve been coming to the restaurant since it opened. I kept trying to impress upon the owner that 25% of the guests won’t be around in five years, due to their age, and the menu needs to be improved if we want to attract a younger crowd that will be around for a while. It fell on deaf ears.
As a Dane, we do NOT claim that awful food 😂 the salmon looked like beef jerky and not any salmon I’ve ever eaten! Danish food is not the most exciting but it can have amazing flavours and texture. What he was served looked like bad food from a retirement home 😂😂

Oh, it probably has happened, but people are so content to not make a scene(myself included) that they'll just put up with whatever happens so long as it doesn't seriously hinder them beyond an extended prayer to the porcelain god.
People will have gotten sick but unless it's really serious food poisoning will inly last 24 hours so most people just don't go back and warn their friends and family hence why most of these places are deserted
I'm sorry but I just don't buy that someone plopped a full ass roasted duck in the bloody juice of defrosting meat accidentally. Either one of the kitchen staff did that on purpose so Gordon would find it, or Gordon's team did it themselves to incite drama and heat things up.
Imagine being given such a chance, such resources, such support. And not just "from your friend" or a family member, but from a PROFESSIONAL. One with passion. I'd give absolutely anything I have--what little of it there is--for some support with my own work. And it's not cooking nor restaurant-related! :)
I'll say it again this show has turned me off going into any restaurant, the crap food, the filthy fridges, filthy kitchens. I don't understand all that food that gets brought back into the kitchen, why isn't it bagged up and given to the local animal shelter, instead of been thrown out? So much waste.
When I was 17 I worked at this nasty ass diner. Still gives me nightmares about restaurants. Roaches,mice, black sludge under every surface. Psycho owner and her touchy kid(she'd try to grab our ass and boobs at the age of 10) I quit because of it.

Spread the word as much as you can because allot of the places we work at can fire us at any reason for any time, so if WE ourselves speak out we get fired and likely blackbarred from working in any restaurant in that town ever again and likely even anywhere as you won't be able to use those references anymore. Also the reason most restaurants are like this is due to WAYYY too high a volume for what a 8-15 crew kitchen can handle so they allow cleaning and things like that to go by the wayside; additionally, as in my case, the owners are way too cheap to let anything go to waste because they wouldn't be able to afford if they did. My bosses literally wouldn't let us make any overtime until this month if they could help it.
I personally love this series Gordon Ramsay has to offer because since one day I have aspirations of opening up my own business, I can be made aware of the types of precautions to be on the lookout for just from viewing multiple episodes. It would be an absolute HONOR to one day connect with you more on a professional business level to gain more guidance and insight!

As a Dane, this hurt a bit to watch. Not saying our cuisine is the best in the world, but those dishes were butchered. For instance, the duck. Duck is mainly eaten at 'Mortens Aften' '(November 10th), a Danish traditional(religious) evening to remember Martin of Tours, and then at Christmas. Sure, duck is eaten all year round, but these two dates are the main times duck is eaten in huge numbers. The cured salmon here, the gravlax, is nowhere near what Danish cured salmon is (gravad laks). The Danish meat balls (frikadeller) here looks to be decent, in appearance at least.
After filming they quickly started bringing back "customer favorites" from before the changes, they brought back the dessert museum and they introduced early bird specials. Seems like they preferred to stick with their senior citizen clientele after all. The episode was filmed in 2009, they closed in 2010.

being a restaurant must be the hardest business to run. as long as you can keep a great chef, you are good to go. its when they leave that everything goes to hell. i only goto 1 place for steak now. every other place was either great one time and bad the rest.
Normally happens cuz the owners mistreat their employees so eventually only the bad ones stay and bad ones come in and since the owners bad everything just gets worse overtime.
So I’ve watched quite a lot of these episodes to understand some things -Most of them are in huge debt - Gordon usually refurbishes the places, and I’d like to think he pays for it too. -just by that, obviously chances are very high that they will be some improvement in the income being generated So in other words, if it weren’t for the cash injection that Gordon brings in, most of them would just go broke and die out
