Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 вер 2024
- In this classic sketch from Mr. Show, casting directors (Bob Odenkirk and Dino Stamatopoulos) settle in to watch an aspiring actor’s (David Cross) monologue - only for it to be repeatedly derailed by ...a chair. #MrShow

OMG WE'RE HAVING A FIRE sale.
I think I made the fire too real for them…
"Honey, it's one line"
"Not if I do my job right"
first thing i thought tbh
YES!
This is what David did to get the Chipmunks gig.
As a punishment?
@@906087 I hear he got a beautiful big house out of it.
The question would be for whom, though.
The dude on the left is Starburns from Community and the creator of Moral Orel
Oh cool. I I recognized his inability to act, but I assumed that he had something special about him, seeing how he was working with Bob and David. I loved moral Orel.
He also wrote this sketch and one of the other bizarro-logic sketches (Pre-Taped Talk Show) on Mr .Show
@@MrMrMrMrMerle that bit was amazing
starburns and saul
no way he created moral oral? that's awesome
This is such a classic David sketch, similar to the pre-taped call-in show. Some poor everyman doing something bonkers, out of touch and incongruous with how things work and still totally pissed no one gets it. Comedy gold.
Don't forget the recursion.
I believe both Audition and Call-in were written by Star Burns himself, Dino Stamatopoulos
@@KayinAngel Yes, I believe so too. That might be on the DVD commentary. Also, I've heard Brian Posehn had the balls to actually perform this in an audition. It did not go well.
This sketch is mathematically perfect.
Its the double punchline of "And scene.....NO!!" for me. They set that up perfectly.
The editing on this is pristine, from wide shot to close up; it hits so many beats each actor needs to hit to progress the skit. So damn clean.
NO!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, it's crack. It's really good
It's amazing that this is only the second funniest audition scene featuring David Cross.
FIRE!!! sale
He even ended both auditions with the same phrase
@@Bout_TreeFiddy It's burning! Amazing Grace ...
You only have one line.
Not if I do my job
Perfect. You never knew what to expect. Genius writing. Legends of comedy.
starburns, saul, and tobias! three iconic characters lmao
He's a Superstar, in a Superstar Machine
Taking it to the staaaaars!
Emotion Lotion!
One of my all-time favorite sketches.
To me this is the best comedy sketch ever made. No fancy sets or props or anything really just that perfect awkwardness.
Except for the chair
@@mandatorymyocarditisAnd the fancy set.
In a newspaper (yes, I still read them online) interview hawking their book, Keegan-Michael Key and Elle Key too said this is the best sketch comedy routine of all time. For me, it's Chris Elliott's characters on Letterman together with Letterman's annoyed responses. The more austere the set, the better the comedy - think Honeymooners.
I read that yesterday, too @@js60540 and I had never seen this sketch before so was eager to look it up. However, I had tempered my expectations. People here seem to have credited the editing, set, etc. But I think this sketch is 100% about timing and all the credit goes to Cross, Odenkirk and Starburns. Anyways, I laughed and that's the acid test.
I love it too. It reminds me of something like Monty Python's Argument sketch but takes the absurdity and awkwardness even further (if that's possible).🤣
I put this in the same league as the Argument Sketch or anything Python or the Kids in the Hall did. When "Mr. Show" was at its peak, they were incredible.
No they weren't, how dare you insult John Cleese by comparing him to these... Thank you!
It definitely smacks of being a classic. Amazing how it sometimes takes like ten years to discern what content around us kind of fades away and which of it only gets stronger with time.
Still one of the funniest comedy sketches of all time.

So cool that HBO is finally posting clips of Mr Show! Now that they’ve deleted all of the other clips off UA-cam, which are what got me into the show in the first place. Congrats on preventing the show from ever gaining new fans by making it so only 30 year old HBO subscribers with solidified senses of humor will ever have access to the show
wut
Big Corporate's ways are mysterious.
@Brian Peterson i have it on dvd
Being a crybaby is cool.
Its not like you can't get this show literally all over the place. Old DVDs, torrents, etc. Don't let Globochem get you down, bro. Have a tufutti break.
From beginning to the end ("Really?") - Classic sketch. Brilliant.
i’ve been an ‘i think you should leave’ fan since day 1 and this is exactly up my alley. so happy i’m finding this finally!
Watch all the Mr. Show seasons - totally worth it!
Is that Starburns? 🤯
His name is Alex
This reminds me I still have some Mustmayostardayonnaise in the fridge.
Better use it quick, the mustard and mayo expire at different rates.
I love Mr. Show, but from all the sketches they've ever done, this is their magnum opus.
The cold dead eyes of David Cross.
Easily one of the most brilliant and underrated comedy sketches ever, in my opinion. But every single person I've shown it to had a blank expression, so what do I know?
I'm obviously not the target audience for Mr. Show. I've only found a few of the sketches I've come across as mildly funny at best. This, however, is hilarious.
Considering how influential Mr Show is, you may know a lil something about comedy
Find new people that have a good sense of humor
This remains one of my favorite sketches.
“Pre-taped Call-in Show” vibes
Starburns, Tobias, and Saul 😂
hahaha Bob holding back the whole time
I thought you were here auditioning for the fire sell. Where is the fire? The burning?
The burning, it burns me!!!
This is the greatest comedy sketch in history.
This is GENIUS

The tension!
I always thought it was “end scene”. 😂
It is.
@@0utpatientit isn't.
@@0utpatient It's "and scene."
@@Chiller326 [shrug] Ok.
I'm really tempted to actually do this at an audition.
For god sake plz you can use this chair 😂😂😂😂😂
*looks around nervously*
As brilliant as David Cross is in this, Bob Odenkirk literally looking like he is dying from not being able to answer the question is what makes the scene.
Starburns sighting
tobias, saul, and starburns !
Genius 👏👏👏
Starburns!
I love how meta this skit is. I actually think it counts as “infinitely-meta”. It doesn’t just have one layer that replicates a layer below. It technically has infinite, like when you put two mirrors facing each other. On level 0, an actor comes into an audition and performs something. He performs an actor coming into an audition and performing something. But there is always room for another nested level: the actor he performs as is performing as another actor in another audition. And that actor could also be performing as an another actor performing in an audition.
It’s honestly really interesting stuff if you study mathematical logic. One reason is that the lower levels are indistinguishable from the higher levels. It’s like there’s a “limit at infinity” where all the layers seamlessly superimpose on each other and become indistinguishable. You can kind of come full circle to then interpreting it as there only being one single level, unifying infinite identical levels.
How old are you
starburns!
ICONIC
Robert Picardo is so fricken awesome
is that star burns?
So this the first time I’ve ever seen something from mr show… I tried to look it up in my HBO Max app but it’s not there 😢. Think they don’t want to be seen in the Netherlands

SABRE BURNS!!
Could anyone tell me if the idea for this sketch comes from Mr.show or if it's a version of a sketch with an even older origin? Let me explain, I'm Italian and some Italian comedians have re-proposed this identical sketch in an adapted Italian version, and I thought it was the result of their brilliant mind...but instead now I discover this from many years ago! So I was wondering if there really is an "original" version, and if so who is the original author who has inspired so many comedians (all over the world, not just in Italy, I know of a Russian version of this sketch more or less also that of the 90s)... but at this point I would like to go even further back and understand who the original brilliant mind is who staged it for the first time in history

Really good editing at 3:23, thats a good thing to remove
Actor…acting……actist

Classico
I think HBO may have done a very welcome edit of a single word in this sketch which is actually quite appreciated. 90s comedy could be quite heavy-handed and language has evolved in the ensuing decades. As ahead of its time (and quite often STILL timely) as the show can be, I’m so happy not having to cringe during just one word in what is otherwise one of the best-written sketches in the series. Kudos to all who made this tasteful decision!
You're gay.
What exactly are you referencing? Seems the same to me
@@samchampionlives find an old vhs or dvd copy and compare. My point is that there was a very tasteful edit. If you can’t recognize what was changed, that’s good. It was a throwaway line that has been updated so that this remarkable bit of comedic writing (and performing) is ready for posterity.
@@Danbassin oh the r-word
So basically you're a white saviour who is offended by EVERYTHING on the behalf of all marginalised people because you're so majestic and heroic. God, I bet Black people fall to their knees and kiss your feet every time you are near them.

Same character from arrested development
of course they cut out a line that would be deemed inappropriate on youtube, so yeah good job HBO for conforming 😂
