I think-one of the best descriptions of the fear of Michael I've seen accurately sums up why the finale of that movie is so terrifying. You know that feeling when you find a spider in your house, and you look away for five seconds and it's GONE?? And you can't find it again?? That's the kind of paranoia this brings out in me. THAT is the horror of Michael Myers, to me.
The ending to the first movie with all the shots we were used to seeing him but he isn’t there with the breathing is such a great way of making myers linger in your head and panic. Truly worthy of the name “the shape”
What creeps me out about Michael Myers is how dispassionate he is about killing. He doesnt seem to enjoy it, or be fearful of consequences or filled with rage. He doesnt seem to care that he is killing people, and yet it is all he does.
I've heard someone describe Carpenter's treatment of Michael's evil as biblical. In the sense that, in the same way God is good, Michael is a murderer. Why is God good? Because he is. Why does Michael kill? Because he just…does.
29:16 They try to convince Laurie they want her to go and see Michael to confront her fear and move on with her life but it's clear they think she's the one who'll finally get him to talk hoping they'll be able to understand why he kills.
such a quirky lil guy, goin around endin human lives. love him for that but seriously though, i get you. there is immense comfort in the fact that he's not killing you out of some weird sense of vengeance, there's no rhyme, reason or meaning for him going after you. We know Jason is killing because of his mom, we know Freddy is out for revenge, hell even Pennywise has a motive. It's that lack of motive, that impersonal feeling that gets me. It's fitting that Halloween 1978 would use the song Don't Fear the Reaper as it talks about death as an inevitably. The reaper is impersonal, yet he comes for us all and there's nothing you can do about it. In fact, I think that's why so many people dislike Rob Zombie's Halloween so much. Kickass video!
Thank you! This is exactly how I feel about it too! Funny you should mention the RZ Halloween movies because I will absolutely be covering them sometime soon! I’m not really a fan of those movies tbh
@@ProductionJournal I just made a video on the first one very recently and my mixed feelings on it. I even got FuschiaButter to cameo in it which meant a lot to me as I love her content. To summarize my feelings on Rob's films, good idea with some massive potential, poor execution but if you want my full thoughts, my video is on my channel
40:28 Allyson has better luck when she's screaming for help in 2018 because some people let her in and gave her some water. But the neighbours Laurie asked for help in 1978 thought she was Halloween pranking them.
The editing in this Small snippet is nothing but fun and exhiliatering. To think the entire video is going to be this bar of energy is insane. Oath mate. I do reckon this'll be your best video. And that's a tall order
@@hvostgallika I'm sorry I never saw this! For this video I used a Blue Yeti with a LOT of post processing, switching to a RODE NTG4+ mic for future vids!
I think as a franchise it utterly sucks. However JUST John Carpenter's Halloween is one of the best. Even with 2018, it just works best as a single film. What makes Halloween haunting is the ending of uncertainty leading to certainty that Michael isn't Michael, IT is the Shape of evil. None of those movies stick to that landing. That said as a character, Freddy is the shape of evil. Anyone that exclusively hunts children is another level of evil.
Yeah Halloween is one of those movies where I only ever think about the first one and ignore all others. Alien and Terminator have at least two good movies but other than that it is the same thing
I never thought I'd see the day where there'd be more fnaf references in one of your videos than among us ones. you already I know I think this video is brilliant, but I'm going to say it again. this video is brilliant!
I normally never watch horror unless it’s well acclaimed, but Michael Myers always grabs my attention because there is very little info as to why he does it. We’re never given any reason and the best we can say is that it’s because he chooses to. His victims aren’t picked out. They’re simply random targets that he came upon and chose to kill. To him, scaring his victims is just as important as the kill. His reasoning is basically, “I kill because I can”. He’s just a killer who kills.
"a boogeyman in a mask stabbing people, why would I want to watch that?" Hahaha oh man we were totally different kids. I used to sneak into my uncles room and swap out his horror vhs tapes with my kids films. I think I had the first halloween vhs tape in the box for casper for about 3 years before my uncle went to watch halloween and was greeted by casper the friendly ghost instead of Micheal the stabby boogeyman lmao Great video dude. Subscribed!
HAHA THAT'S BRILLIANT! The part that I excluded was that I would sneak out of bed at night to watch the heart-ripping scene from Temple of Doom 🤣. At the time that was the most explicit gore I ever watched and that's pretty muted! Another story for another day... Thank you for your support!
They belong to my friend who appeared as Michael! His instagram is Cosplaycable if you’d like to ask him directly! He told me they’re either a rehaul or a ground up commission! I got my own one through Aaron Sonneborne from 31st Night Studios - his are FANTASTIC
40:06 This is incorrect but I don’t think detracts from your point. At the very least, “The Shape Stalks” is used again when Michael kills Ray, but I’d argue this is acceptable by their viewpoint since, at this point in the story, we’re back to Laurie’s encounter with Michael. She’s the one who sees it next, after all
Haha thank you Harry! It is certainly an aqquired taste. The craft behind it fascinates me, so rich with concept and seeing it all come together is amazing
@@ProductionJournalI liked it, it was basically Dr Loomis’ penultimate warning of neighborhoods being lined up like slaughterhouses. The problem was the writing for Tommy, the stupidity of legacy characters, and the fact it was building to a film that would ultimately take a completely different direction. Kills is great at expanding on the mystique of Myers and the connection between his evil and what it causes to a quiet town now being reminded of its past horrors. Halloween Ends had some really cool ideas for a Slasher Film, it just didn’t really fit for an ending of a trilogy; but it was IMMENSELY satisfying seeing Laurie finally get her revenge on Michael and Definitively killing him. Overall, I enjoyed this trilogy FAR more than any of the other sequels imho.
They call him Michael Myers but he's credited as the shape maybe he was born Michael Myers but became the shape he's not Michael Myers anymore anytime he reacts to being called if any reaction at all would be bewildered he cocks his head like what's you call me lol its like calling Darth Vader Anakin he'd say that name don't apply to him anymore he's turned evil and now is the shape and forever will it dominate his Destiny consumed him it did or maybe he was always evil he was born like a normal person given a name like normal person but in reality he was never a real person he was basically like the thing in the thing he appears normal but he's pretending blending in but evil is there watching waiting til its ready to strike lol

18:01 The original is also the only film where you properly see his unmasked face. In the sequels it's either in shadows or blurred out.
I assume we are forgetting the Rob Zombie films.
53:58 just a reminder for myself
9:02 The best masks are the ones where you can't see Michael's eyes.
