      Jack White's Airline wants a word... (though the Strat is obvs a nicer guitar)

    This was f@*king great! One of your best uploads imo. Dave's destruction of Borrell was particularly enjoyable 🤣🤣
    I'm an indie guitarist / '00s obsessive / musician and it's so cool to see content like this being made.
    Dave did a decent job and he's great to listen to, but there's a couple of points he fluffed...
    1. '60s Airline guitars weren't made in Korea, they were USA made! The branding was indeed used by Montgomery Ward, but the actual guitars were made mainly by... Kay!
    2. Jack White used an acoustic guitar for The White Stripes' most famous famous song, '7 Nation Army', and that guitar was actually... a KAY!
    3. Kay guitars weren't made solely for Woolworths... they were a huge brand in and of their own with quite a rich and varied history and were made all over the World during different eras and used by a host of legendary players - Beck, Jimi Hendrix, Elvis, Pete Townshend, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, Mark Knopfler all played Kays.
    4. The 'weird tail-piece' on Nick Valensi's Epiphone Riviera is called a 'Frequensator' and is unique to the Riviera. And the Riviera, in turn, is unique to Epiphone (much like the Coronet or the Casino) and is a much respected model with many notable players including Noel Gallagher and Bonehead who both played Riviera's during Oasis' giddy rise... indeed, I would hazard a guess that this very possibly influenced Valensi to get one since The Strokes were fans of Oasis, and were also sonically not really *that* dissimilar to them with their 5 piece set up, twin guitars and very similar 'slower than you'd think' BPMs. The Riviera is semi-hollowbody as you asked, as opposed to the Casino which fully hollowbody.
    5. The Strat that Albert Hammond Jr played was indeed an '85 reissue, but it's NOT a reissue of a '57 Strat as Dave says, it's a reissue of '72 Strat - you can always tell the '70s Strats / re-issues by the lovely, big headstocks, which are notably bigger than all other Fender Headstocks.
    Great episode, you should do another one running through Franz Ferdinand's guitars (for Alex and Nick), The Coral, Arctic Monkey's, '00s Oasis, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Bloc Party, Klaxons etc and maybe do a little section for some of the iconic basses as well. I'm not a famous '00s face, but am a current indie guitarist and '00s guitar obsessive and I'd gladly help for the vid! x

    As someone who was a teenager in the 2000s and really into indie, this channel is brilliant for nostalgia of that period. Have you ever listened to the band Courting? They capture that sound well.

    16.20 ish he's talking about the live sound ,I saw them at the cockpit when Peter was in rehab for the 1st time in the summer of 2003 (I won the tickets through the metro free bus paper! , not a lot of buses gave them papers out at the time maybe just the ring rd ones )any ways the monitors was very foggy you couldn't work out the lyrics still a good experience tho,and one night at the forum Kentish town even Steve lamaque whatever his name is said it sounded ropey the vocals on the 1st night .But much better after that night.

    Carl had single cut melody maker and a double cut mm

    • @blobbyblobbyblobby
      @blobbyblobbyblobby 24 дні тому

      He very rarely played the single cut as it was a single pickup guitar. Think he only uses it a couple of times, he also used a 2003 red melody maker reissue at a couple of gigs but I don't think he owned it.
      Look at any almost any footage of the libertines and he's playing a 1964 double cut melody maker - Dave x

    Well Peter gave Johnny b a black eye over him trying it on with babyshambles bassist drews then (or maybe the same?) girlfriend as Johnny was known to try it on with other mens girlfriends and Pete ruffed him up and Johnny said ' Dont start I've Been doing weight s down at ....bla bla...rd, "Oh yeah?" Said Pete and butted him .Johnny was wearing sunnys at next gigs,he's more humble now a days or not as bad as people thought he was in person to people that have met him these days
