Eric, to help combat some of that dust in the shop get you a 30 inch window fan and just set it up somewhere in the back of the shop. Leave it running the entire time you are in the shop. My shop is less than a 1 car garage with no windows and 1 4 foot door. When it gets dusty I just open the door and place a fan in the rear blowing towards the door and if I'm doing a lot of sawing and sanding I'll place a second fan in the doorway to help pull the dust out. If you add a middle long piece it'll be way more solid. Also, plywood would make good material. I'd use 4 long sloped pieces then add staggered bracing.

I do not know where you got your descriptions from but wood 8feet by 10 inches is not "scrap" wood, but a nice build and it should be very strong. PS if you have any more scraps of wood I would be happy to take them off your hands.
+John Fithian-Franks I meant old wood that was laying around for a while and had no other use. It's not really scrap wood, but it's some old wood that is long overdue for some good use.

Cool project, going to build one of these for myself. Spit my drink out when I googled wooden mounds and found averages around 1k.
