Lyrics
Down down, you bring me down
I hear you knocking down my door and I can't sleep at night
Your face, it has no place
No room for you inside my house I need to be alone
Don't waste your words
I don't need anything from you
I don't care where you've been
Or what you plan to do
Turn turn, I wish you'd learn
There's a time and place for everything, I've got to get it through
Cut loose, 'cause you're no use
I couldn't stand another second in your company
Don't waste your words
I don't need anything from you
I don't care where you've been
Or what you plan to do
Stone me, why can't you see
You're a no-one nowhere washed up baby who'd look better dead?
Your tongue is far too long
I don't like the way it sucks and slurps upon my every word
Don't waste your words
I don't need anything from you
I don't care where you've been
Or what you plan to do
I am the resurrection and I am the life
I couldn't ever bring myself to hate you as I'd like
I am the resurrection and I am the life
I couldn't ever bring myself to hate you as I'd like

Squire is one of the most underrated guitarists of all time.
How is he underrated?
Sam Wilson becuase he is fucking amazing, yet no-one ever mentions him when they say the best guitarists of all time
meoldgemima sorry but in my opinion Ian's voice is not good. In the recordings seems good but then at live no.
Alex Chirapozu I agree!
***** Squire is underrated, yes. He's a brilliant guitarist.
But Reni is the best musician in the band, IMO, by a good distance, and maybe it's because he hid all the years the SR were broke up, but he barely even gets a mention when I hear about Stone Roses these days. It's all "Squire is great" (true) and Brown can't sing (he's got a good sound, but that sound doesn't always work great live.)
And Reni + Mani is pure musical poetry.
Reni, using only a snare, a floor tom, a kick drum, a hi-hat and a splash cymbal carries this song from start to finish with his precision metronomic timing. He was and is a colossus on the drums. And he was also the best singer in the Roses but that's a whole other story.
Just so good, effortless
Erm no. He’s using a crash and ride.
Stop trying to sound clever.
Well said.
No one plays like reni
Name me one another drummer who's nails the rhythm like reni you cant.
Ian Brown is the only guy who could look and sound like some random guy doing karaoke and still be effin LEGENDARY.
best band in the world. periodt. holy shite, mate.
@@invisiblecurious856 ain’t that the truth 🙏
For sho my nigga
"The Stone Roses" should be standard issue to anyone over the age of 15 in the U.S.
I’m a yank and I tell everyone I love how great the roses are
I think it’s hard for people now to understand that their ramshackleness was part of their charm. That punk spirit was still part of it. One of the reasons they were/are so loved was their closeness to their fans and the sense that despite their obvious skill as musicians it could all fall over at any moment - but when it clicked it was unbelievable. Magic. No one went to a gig looking for perfection, you wanted shared moments of transcendence.
Reni is hands down my favorite drummer
He is great. Wish the camera was on him ore though. One or two shots of Ian on the bongos would have been enough.
Absolutely, he is a prodigy, one of the best drummers of all time...
Spot on.....and I am telling the young ones about this.....
Yup, he ties them all together so well, it’s really apparent on that Shane meadows doc...he’s the boss lol
@44 same here
I'm telling you Reni could rewire a plug, read the paper, and cook Sunday dinner while drumming and never miss a beat. He's absolutely astonishing. 🐐
I feel for people that will never be able to appreciate the true genius of this band.
I no it's not ian
Very few artists are ever credited with the creation of an all new sound or movement, but The Roses have been blessed with that significance. Epic performance, long live Madchester!!
One of the most complete bands ever up there with the beatles, every member is unique and fucking amazing at what they do
They jam perfectly
He can't sing. He was just so damn lucky to get in a band with Squire and Reni.
@@julianevans9548 ok then. Name anyone who can replace the lyrics he wrote and the iconic whisper he sings over these songs??
I put their debut album above any Beatles record, and I like The Beatles.
people like you are so cringy. I had this attitude when i was 19 and then realised their is a whole world of music out there which is better and pre dates this and I love the stones and Oasis.
Reni, the slip, the drop, the hook, the groove, man carries it
Reni the human drum machine ...could listen for hours to him to his funky chops
There will never be another Stone Roses. And to me that’s a good thing. Smile because it happened 🍋
Magical time that nobody can't take away for them and us ( 1989 - 1993 ). I was listening to them when I was 18 in the Philippines never understanding any of the words because of the thick English accent but nevertheless adoring the great musicianship and dancing around the house like crazy. Great musicians . Magical band .
I just discovered the band this year and I'm 19. I'm from the Philippines too and all I can say is that british music is so underrated here.
My dad keeps listening to this. I've come to adore the droning bass line lmao. Most of the people here in the philippines have pedestrian tastes when it comes to music unfortunately. But I guess that's better in a way, it becomes all the more fulfilling once they discover and listen to these genres of music and have that eureka moment.

07:04 to 07:56 is the apogee of my whole existence. It is such a beautiful interlude in life, it defies description. Out of the noise is that quiet Squire arpeggio and Mani`s sublime shuffle, slowly building to an incredible release, 33 years later and it still jars against the mind and soul, a gorgeous snapshot of how elevated we could be.
The groove at 09:50 to 10:50 is unreal.

The best part of it is that Ian Brown is not singing.

Bloody best band in the fucking world
From 1,701 to over a million🤯
One of the best live performances ever, it only takes an album to make history sometimes ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐😉
It's absolutely appalling singing 😂 saw him at Reading in maybe 98 possibly 96 and he was smacked up he was singing the wrong verse. Great song and guitar though
The last few minutes are a mess.
Stone Roses where shite live I'm afraid. Managed to see them three times and at the Spike Island gig, great atmosphere but a shambles of show.
@@jasonlaverty76 I think they were much better after the reunion.
@@ErrrorWayz At Spike Island, he sounded like a drunk impersonator 😊 Too many people make Stone Roses gigs out to be religious events. The band were great, the singing was shit
Once you get past Ian browns drunken shouting and the tunes breaks ..this is fucking brilliant, the rest of the band are on another level totally feeding off each other
If it was a polished turd it wouldn't have Ian Brown as frontman. It'd have George Michael. That's the whole point.
Ian Brown doesn't drink alcohol.
Disagree. Brown is as important to this band as the best front men ever have been to theirs. No Brown, no Roses
One of the most legendary gigs in the history of music..imo
Most underrated band of all time. This song is their greatest! The tightest rhythm section I have ever heard. Learning the bass line to this song blew my mind. This is my go to song when I want to shake the foundations of my house and rock the neighborhood.
I wonder what it will take to the point where you people will understand that that Underappreciated is the word you're looking for
Reni's fantastic stomping intro brings to mind Pretty Woman by Roy Orbison for me. John's exquisitely beautiful guitar at 07.11 always reminds me of sunrise after a rave. Then 7.44 Reni's subtle art of drumming; knowing just when to play soft & gentle then building up into a powerful raging funky octopus! Losing himself in the rhythms. He always plays just right for each song, all that effort involved, and he still sings so well. Genius, just oozes natural talent. Love Mani's improvised bassline too. They're all so great. Losing myself in their music is helping me thru some hard times in my life. Thank you beautiful mega talented Roses 🤗 your music lives on in our 💖s.
These guys were so groundbreaking Remis drums the use of clean solos switching to dirty distortion beautiful...
Don't waste your words, I don't need anything from you, I don't care where you've been or what you plan to do :)
Or what you'd like to do! 😂
The song of my life. Lyrics, Great drumms, guitar, bass, King Monkey, psychodelic line….
Love the Roses, ans especially Resurrection. This has got to be one of the best instrumentals in any song I've heard. And I listen to everything. Reni is an incredibly skilled drummer. Along with Squire and Mani, they literally put you I to a dance trance. Ian Brown can't, and could never sing, he is a fortunate man who had these gifted musicians in his band.
im sure Ian Brown is shiting himself that you're gonna take his gig
ah the Roses - such an iconic band... they held the world in their hands and few will ever know what its like to be soooo right on time. As well as being pivotal culturally the Roses were truly more than the sum of their parts. Individually all incredible but together celestial. And please.... for those people going on about Browine's vocal your missing the point by a f*cking mile. Look at the crowd. That doesn't happen anymore.
Ians a lucky fucker I bet the other 3 have done some epic shit when they jammed together
Absolutely true--most people now won't spend a buck to listen to that caterwauling. The rhythm section, especially the drumming, is fantastic. They'd be better served heaving his arse off the stage and letting the crowd chant the rest of the set. Of course that don't happen anymore either...
We've all heard of autotune, but this is more like outtatune. Jeez Louise my dog's even howling!
sir, you are a poet
We can't go to gigs anymore
Ian said in another video, that he was stoned outta his goddamn mind during this gig. If he was, I'm sure the others were lit too. That probably affected the vocals.....a lot. And the crowd was hammer blasted as well & probably thought he sounded like a Mancunian Pavarotti.
Reni is ... I really can’t think of a superlative magnificent enough to describe his musicianship. I could watch him all day.

Reni is a fucking awesome Drummer, he was immense here and on saturday in London absolute class
This masterpiece song & Stone Roses are under-rated & under-recognized.
this video was the first time I realised i liked the stone roses. my parents are big fans and tried getting me into them for a while but it wasn't til i heard this and I thought bloody hell this is great and Ive been a massive fan ever since
Saw them at Spike island and in Leeds, teenage years were fucking amazing. Growing up in Manchester in the late 80's was an amazing experience, we were spoiled. We had bands like this and legendary clubs like the Thunderdome and Hacienda to name but 2, spoilt.
the stone roses. what an amazing band. this song is truly one of the most definitive rock songs of all-time.
Got this on VHS and signed by Mani when I caught him in Glasgow. Happy days!
Ian sounds fucking brilliant here, goosebumps when he sings the chorus
You're tone deaf! The band is excellent! Ian is awful!

Abrazos!
I only wish I were there, just to listen live to these beautiful drums
Reni and Mani - favourite rhythm section of all time, just wonderful!
I like his singing. Even live in this. It's progressive and unlike any others. It's so unique and amazing.
he was trippin mad balls xD
It's flat as he'll. He always was
@@mpj1969 Yeah he just can't hit the notes
Which doesn’t make him a bad singer, he is so expressive and strong the Roses would not be the same without him. I love his singing personally.
@@socialrevolution2342 No, it does it does make him a bad singer. Hitting the notes is kind of the basic minimum that isn't like, some subjective thing. Bob Dylan isn't a good singer, but he's a good performer, songwriter, groomer, etc.
People also have different thresholds of tolerance for tone deaf or technically lacking singers. There are some bands where they're so bad at getting anywhere close to pitch live that I can only listen to the studio albums.
Reni is like N'golo Kante, he'll go on for fucking hours!🍋
But he plays with the fluidity and grace of a Zidane... If the Roses had a ball-winning defensive midfielder who keeps it simple and makes everyone else look good - it would be Mani...
4:17 is when this turns from a mediocre performance to a brilliant one. It’s clear to see all the musicians are absolute geniuses. Especially Squire and Reni
4:17 def, Even. Bad ass.

Classic Stone Roses. Blues, Jazz and Rock n Roll. WOW!!!
I think this is the best version still, like how heavy and rough at times it is . Also Ian is great here, maybe not vocally (which doesn't matter, his part is a chant), but performance wise
Told u sing as u mean it loveit

Reminds me of a footballclub called "Fc Bury" ... I was 5/6 years old when they had interest in me as a child on a tournament in Bruges,i think Varsenare. I played then for a small club called" Kwik Eine". But i never played for them😢. Now i bought something from them. A bagage and a scarf to show my big respect in this footballclub. I'll never forgot them. YNWA! Greetings from Belgium. My name is Kjell Van Brabant. My best friends call me by "Kjellinho"😂😂 .
Ian’s singing was always painful live... but such is the sheer brilliance of this track (the extended ending!!!) it doesn’t matter...
Reni is one of the finest drummers ever (on a kit that small, he is a MONSTER!), Mani’s bass lines are supple and vital, and John is one of the true greats on the guitar.
5:00 plus is orgasmic
I think he was tone deaf, i don;t know how they corrected it in the studio back then probably pitched it somehow finely and hid it in the mix with loads of reverb and i think double tracked it too. They were using autotune with the comeback tour lol
Mojopin 70 I’ve read that John Leckie would take the best take of each line and “cut and paste” the vocal track together.
Definitely swamped with delay and reverb too!
Reni drummer AND sang harmonies??!! He was their secret weapon!
Either way, I adore the Roses!
Have to disagree, he can sound great live when he doesn’t have to shout over the music or the crowd.

the vocals arnt that bad guys, they still manage to stimulate some pretty strong emotions... in me at least
I fully agree, The actual singing isnt great. But the presence and emotion he displays as a front man are what make him great, regardless of pitch issues
It’s not about the signing. It’s the lyrics. This is why anyone can do this if you have a bit of brain
People bitch about Ian's singing but it's never been a technical note choice singer like freddie mercury showcasing range or whatever hes always used his voice like an instrument, its cool and that's why we like him. Not every singer has to be fucking perfect. They should go listen to top forty instead of complaining
