    I'd like to offer this. I have struggled with my esteem for my entire life. Still do but less and less. Tyler has some important points that I've experienced. Living in a very urban center like Los Angeles forced me to sink or swim. There are so many threats, challenges, and competition at every second that I was forced to observe a multitude of failures in a day. In other words those constant challenges made me develop faster.
    Safety is not a good idea. I've been mugged. I chased after the two teens who mugged me and jumped in front a bus they boarded and stopped them. I told off another mugger. I've stopped a sex trafficking incident by shouting and making a scene in the middle of the day. I am surrounded by people with money and people with extreme poverty.
    At every moment I am faced with opportunities that require the most of my efforts and for years they passed by because I was passive. It's difficult to force oneself to take more risks. However try placing yourself in a setting where the risks are unavoidable. When you survival is based on your own cunning and personality, you change fast.

    I love Tyler's work.
    Many social environments (school, family, work, sports teams) have a heirarchy where the lower ranking people are actively discouraged from being honest and open.
    It is a form of bullying and the people receive massive blowback (feedback) for just being themselves.
    It's important for a person to take ownership of their self development, but please continue to aknowledge that people are not to blame for how they were treated by others, and what trauma it could have caused.

    I really think y’all missed a HUGE hint into a deeper problem.... @ 44:45 “because I can’t fuckin talk” was the realest thing he said while he was up there and I say that as a guy that feels the same way, it’s not that we don’t want to bring that energy out, there’s something about TALKING and CONVERSATION that we don’t seem to have or understand (possibly from childhood) and makes bringing out that energy 100x harder. I probably didn’t do the best job explaining what I mean but hopefully someone does

    • @MistaHolism
      @MistaHolism 5 років тому +7

      @d_dsg good catch
      I initially thought he actually looks like nothing is wrong with him. So Tyler is right seeing something there. I completely missed that.
      This is extremely interesting. Concealed Apathy. Resignation.
      He may need re-calibration/reboot into 100% commit, 0% give a f*$@ state.
      It will not help him at all to approach in that state. They did a good job bringing the fighting emotions out of him, but it still bothers him that he gets rejected so much and he falls back into that abyss.
      The video makes more sense now watching it again from this perspective.
      Wonder what is the best healing method for overrejections that would actually balance out the neurotransmitters and give him sense of social security.

    I think this type of "changework" can only be truly effective in an intimate setting and I would personally enroll in such a program. Here, You are basically asking Julien to let go of all his defenses in front of a huge crowd and with 3 facilitators shooting feedback at him. Some of it is legit, some is honestly just guesswork. What you get is compliance at best, but no true cracking of the facade.

    Top 3 Actionable Takeaways:
    1. You have to have a “fire in the belly” to fight off the “derp state” it will consume you if you let it. Its a constant battle and choice to truly be yourself.
    2. It will be painful to recognize ones own failure, true feedback can be painful and most people would rather live comfortable lives then even eemotely reach their true potential.
    3. Child-like wonder and play can be lost if you don’t actively tap into these states, socializing requires lightness and play and unless you let go of the social conditioning, resentment, fear and otherwise you are actually letting down the greater world you could impact positively.

    Tyler - one thing I learned a while back about the whole C-section thing is that when you're born the normal way, you get a coating of a particular kind of bacteria that just works wonders for the body right from the getgo, and not having that due to a C-section can cause a lot of problems later in life. I can't prove this, least of all on youtube, but totally worth looking into if you're curious. Best evidence for this I can give is anecdotal, but also personal - I was C-sectioned, my brother was born normally, and that kid is way smarter than me and has a much easier time handling social situations. Like you say, not the end of the world, but I think it is a factor for a lot of people.

    Yeah I've just started watching this and I'm going to tune in a bit longer because I like the more scientific approach here about the mentions on dopamine cool stuff.
    It gave me an idea actually, I'm doing a little research (I'm still so myopic though got a lot of work to do) on problems in the world and anyhow just now watching your personal development video in the midst of learning about population issues, climate change, student loan debt in the USA and a whole host of other things made me make an analogy between the "invisible hand" principle created in market economics and the influence that ones social environment has on an individual.
    It's made me realise the importance of creating as much as I can an "invisible hand" scenario in my own life where I'm constantly being subtly pushed in ways I can't even see properly where I'm working to become a better person, where I more and more begin to earn my place in life.
    Peace, I'll keep on listening thanks Owen

    Tons of value im very greatful i get to recive this knowledge to expand my awareness. i am NOW after 4 years of learning since i was 15 from owen begining to emerge from the depths of hell i have days where i get ultra present i feel like a god, and now this, pua was the shit but i always had a feeling that there was a bigger meaning, not as an excuse to not go out or that its just a feeling of that we could be doing things that can offer more reach without judgement but also at the same time poke at the cause more directly with a raw(er) intention. good stuff owen keep it up. much love.

    I don’t get it. There’s no way to be his real self if he’s not use to speaking in public like that. Maybe if he was very experienced in public speaking and he was the host of this talk, he would appear more confident. They are giving pretty good advice with self-improvement and getting out of your comfort zone. I can respect them for that. But paying anywhere an upwards of $10,000 on this? Sorry, but it seems like a scam when you can honestly learn this stuff on your own. Especially considering that most people will return back to their own ways after a 6-week, $1000 program.

    Another great video, I really think most people are simply restricted by the social conditioning of whats acceptable, which is actually healthy for survival. But for a change in the person they need to either hit rock bottom or commit by burning the boats, half effort yields half results. It's all about self-perception like an archer you must be able to strengthen and contract your ego as the arrow and then at the peak you must be able to let go of it with accuracy to achieve your target's/goals.

    Hey Tyler. Analyze inhibitions, sheep mentality vs leadership mentality. People aren't willing to see ego as a simple game. they treat it seriously. But then they take ego so seriously that they aren't willing to lose "chips" instead of having the idea of unlimited chips. Some people see social results as static and people like Luke see social results as dynamic & flowing.

    From deeper knowledge base, all that guy need to do is to set goal(s) in life that inspires him to achieve those goals, move forward to achieving them and from within out - he will transform who he is and his life. SIMPLE. The challenge is to succeed in that process. Our bodies, life, and the universe will do the rest to make it happen. This is DEEP truth and WORKS. Working on a person from conscious mind to change themselves is not effective.

    The 'enough of this crap' argument is very valid. The life pressures thrown at a person not living their dream are just as intense as pressure faced by a baller.
