Thanks guys, I always enjoy you fellers. On the PVW15, I actually had a serious health scare a year ago and because of that I paid secondary for this. At the time I didn’t know if I’d be here or able to drink this year thus the extravagant choice. Two good things to report; 1 the scare turned out to be manageable and 2 the Pappy is just amazing. The only problem is now I’m going to be around for many more years and need a backup bottle (half left). 😜
I dont know you but I'm happy for you and will say a prayer for you.

More than whiskey can ever be we are thrilled that your health is now in check! Blessings to you my friend! Enjoy that bottle!
Thanks for sharing. May you be blessed!
God bless and may you be around for many, many more years.
I took a tour of Buffalo Trace the day they were bottling Pappy on 9/17/2013. Next day on the news they reported the entire pallet of pappy was stolen. I have a photo of the bottles of pappy being filled. This still blows my mind.
You guys have just about replaced all my other whisky-tubers. Theres's some kind of magic in your content. Keep it goin' guys! Thanks!
Totally Agree! Same here.
Much appreciated!
I really like the father-son dynamic. Makes me look forward to drinking some whiskey with my dad over the holidays.
I'm going to agree and also make claim. I think I know what it is. Yall are trying it for the first time as do we. It's exciting. I've wanted to taste this PVW 15yr forever and don't see it on my humble horizon. I know I would be as giddy as a coon in a grainery.
@@TheDionBlasterMethod i would love that chance enjoy
I've had a flight of Pappy 10, 15, 20, 23 and they were absolutely delicious. I would only purchase them at retail. They do not earn the secondary market price. To many other options.
Is that not impossible to find tho?
@@GeauxRillayes it is
I am glad you were able to get one, ESPECIALLY at retail. That being said, every time I see a Pap review, I always wish they were on the blind. "Here is a bourbon, what are your thoughts" especially if they are lined up with other BT offerings on the same mash bill from $40-$160. Its human nature, the anticipation and emotions will bleed into it and make it subjective. But at the same time, perhaps that is part of the "total package".
Great show. I was grinning from ear to ear for the entire show. Good for you.
I got Pappy for a gift several years ago and easily the best I had. Shared it with friends, making it even better.
Would love to see this in a BLIND with some other comparable proof and profile pours! 😊
Absolutely love the complete honesty in Trenton's reactions
My neighbor gave me a pour of this, and I will say this is the best pour I've had in my short bourbon experience. It's well balanced, and Trenton nailed it with the oak at the end. That transition to the oak was amazing. That being said, I can't find this bottle less than $3500 here in SoCal. The hype is real on this bottle.
I always loved your show, but I gotta say I love it more when it's you and Trenton, the back-and-forth between you 2 is always nice.
Appreciate that!
Loved this! At least I can enjoy a bottle of Pappy’s virtually through you. Thank you! 😊🥃👍🏻
Video idea... Unicorn blind battle with a few "alternatives" hidden in. So Old Fitz, Old Rip, Pappy 15, Calumet, Maker's Mark FAE or BRT, Weller 107 or Weller Full Proof. Great content guys 👍
Great idea!
Is calumet a unicorn? I bought a 15 yr at total wine and its quite good but they had a shelf full (right on the middle shelf) and I’ve seen it at many other places in Northern Nj. I have never seen any or the other bottles you mentioned in any store around here - not even behind the counter.
Not an allocated bourbon but I would imagine not everywhere.
This video makes me so excited! I got the call today that I'm getting a bottle of this at retail. Here's to you guys!
Congrats on the Pappy score! So envious!
Love the videos. I definitely know what’s coming next week. BTAC. Harry is the man. Happy Holidays
I had a pour of this for $75 it was really good and probably the only time I’ll ever have it!!! Cheers and enjoy!!!
That bottle just looks incredible on the bar top, the lighting, the vibe, everything comes together to make the grail shine! Wow! Subscribed!
I will have a bottle or two on my shelf someday. One does not simply run into a Pappy! : )
Had the pleasure of sampling this a few weeks ago and it absolutely blew me away. More than worth the wait in my opinion
First of Trenton congrats on the find, that's incredible at that price. I 100% agree with the patience aspect of the hunt, could not have said it better.!
Awesome video!! Keep up the great work!!
An old friend of mine from NY was down for Bike Week......here in Daytona He wanted to give me something for staying at my place !! He asked if we had a real good liquor store for different brands !! We do and we went and he asked for a Pappy Van Winkle 15yr .......and they had 2 in the back...........they bring it out and it was $1300 and I liked to freak out.....ARE YOUR CRAZY !!!!! He got it and we opened it at home.........Wow. I've been drinking George Dickle or Wild Turkey for ages.........but this was in a class of it's own.......Wow Wow Wow is all I can say !!!!
Amazing find 😮… so many gifts for dad… Awesome
congratulations on scoring a bottle of Pappy 15. Amazing you paid retail. THis is on my dream list to try one day. You guys are making me want it even more. lol. thanks for sharing and cheers.
Must be nice to live in an area where you can get this at retail-ish prices. $160 for a bottle of Pappy 15 is a steal. Enjoy! I've had them all and 12 and 15 are my favorites.
Yea, wow, here in PA, aint happening, happy to give ya a finders fee if you ever come across another 15 at great price, thanks so much..😊
Yeah I’m not believing that was the price especially seeing how high secondary is. Good video though.
That's the price. I get pappys each year and the prices last year was the ten year was $79,the12year was $110, the 13th year rye was $125, the 15 year $148, 20 year was $245 and the 23 year was a whopping $299. I do shop the store all year long. I don't buy from secondary ever.
@@brettsurrett4596 so…can you help me out with one 🙏🏼🙏🏼🥃🎅🏼😅
@@brettsurrett4596 Located in Kentucky? Missouri doesn't get crap usually.
Well now I’m just Pappy Van Jealous! Great show and thrilled you were able to nab one of these at MSRP…like we all should!
Man I’m so happy I found your videos. Going to tell all the serious drinkers I know!
So great to watch you both enjoy this. Bee Liquors is a great store. Wish I lived closer to get there more often as its a road trip for me, but I always find interesting things there. Cheers!
HOLY BUCKET LIST!! Congrats on the grab guys. Your videos always bring a smile. If only I could ever find one. Living here in NE, prolly not. A man can wish though!
Can't wait for some day to try that enjoyed watching as always thanks guys!
Another great educational video, thanks!
Love Trent’s initial reaction to the nose on his first whiff! Classic!
Hey, I'm glad it was as good as you wanted it to be. It met the hype, which is really good to know. Many bottles sell for more that pretty much suck.
$159.99? Dang, you guys. You got a steal! I've only ever seen one once in California, and it was a LOT more than that.
Just saw it for $3800 in CA
I can't love this enough. I was lucky enough to try some a few year's ago. Yes, lives up to the hype and then some.
Just seeing this episode... and it made me remember that I got a bottle (the 15 year Family Reserve) for a Christmas gift back in 2008 or 2010! It has been in a box, in my storage unit (part of a much longer story) since then. Unfortunately, I now realize that there was an imperfection in the bottle top, and I have lost a bit to evaporation... I was saving it for a special occasion. The product lost is about equal to the two tasting pours that you did for your bottle. The lesson learned here is this... don't wait for a special event, make the event special by opening the bottle!
Love your show guys!
What an insult to whoever gave that to you
Always enjoy the content. I haven’t had a chance to get any Pappys. I did get an EH Taylor BP for $84 after tax though! I’m super excited to crack that one!
You paid WHAT?!?!!! 🤯
Amazing! Thanks for the video guys. Now, can you please make a BLIND tasting with this? I think that would be SUPER cool!
I never had the 15 year old but I did have the 20 year old and it was smooth, smooth, smoooooth as a baby's bottom.
I also had the original red top 20 year old Hirsch and it was even better than the Pappy.
I see that a bottle of Hirsch is now going for $40,000 dollars !!
Cheers from me over here in Frankenmuth, Michigan !
That was great! Thanks guys🥃
Congratulations on your find!! Glad to hear an honest review! In PA we have a Pappy lottery annually which I’m waiting to see how my luck goes….
Me too! Best of luck!
One of the local stores saves all their allocated bourbons for the year as well for a lottery coming in a couple weeks. What doesn't get used in the lottery goes on the shelf. I told my wife and kids that don't need to get me anything for Christmas just let me indulge in a couple fine bourbons.
Winners came in yesterday my brother in law won a ten year pappy I can't wait till he gets it super excited to try it with.
What a great find we have a bottle at our package store in town and it’s around 2200$ so insane love the videos guys
Picked this bad boy up for $169 here in Illinois last week. Really excited about the opportunity to purchase at that price! Also picked up the Old Rip and the Lot B this year. So lucky!
What’s the secret to scoring these rare bottles? I’m in Texas so no competition lol
@@outnumberedbbq prob gotta know a distributor.. those guys know who gets allocations.. and they def give their buddies the intel....
Love the videos fellas
Kurt you guys rock, after watching a few of your videos l grabbed a bottle of wild turkey 101, and smoke house small batch, didn't know what I was missing. Thx Tim
Thanks Tim!
I have a unopened 15 year Pappy on my dresser right now. I work in the business and got it for less than what you guys paid for your bottle. Distribution side. Bourbons are very new to me and I'm interested even more in collecting as I learn more and more about them. Cheers to you guys for having an awesome channel and teaching me and bringing more folks to love bourbons
Enjoy that Pappy!
Drink it or give it to someone who’ll appreciate it.
Patience is key when finding stuff. The fun for me is in the hunt. No one should pay the ridiculous secondary price.
How do you find retail bottles? Any tips?
@@tothefxckinmoon4540 Basically gotta be buddies with the store owners (or have a YT channel) so they'll hold the bottles for you and sell them to you at retail price...just like Harry did for Trenton.
“Patience” you mean know someone
Thanks for sharing this experience… we can all channel our palates and maybe get a virtual taste of something we may never see in reality….
I agree. Patience is key.
Great find. I sure wish I could get Pappy 15 around me for $159, wouldn’t think twice about it.
From tasting all the Van Winkles and Pappys (except the 23), the 15 year is the only I'm hoping to find at a reasonable price someday. It's the only one that lives up to the hype and would love to have it on my bar.
I’ve always found the 15 to be my favorite but I used to buy it when you could buy 12 to the case
And it’s always worth it if you can afford it
Julian Van Winkle says some product at Wild Turkey are a good alternative to Pappy. Also, would be curious of a comparison of some higher proof Makers because of the ties there too. How about a blind with some of all of those and more? Maybe throw in a Larceny and Old Fitz too!
Ugh, I can't imagine WT being an alternative to any BT product. I get a nasty moldy wet dog funk on all WT products.
I have the RIP Van Winkle 10 and just won a lottery to get the Van Winkle Special Reserve 12, I also won the Weller Single barrel and Elijah Craig 18. Pick them up today!! I've opened my RIP 10, it is excellent!! Cant wait to try the 12.
Congratulations! Very happy for you!
Wife got me a bottle for Christmas. Can’t wait to enjoy it with friends!
My buddy got a bottle of Pappy about ten years ago as a batch he got from his grandfather's will.... He's not even a whiskey drinker...... I flipped out 🙃 when I saw it on his shelf and asked him for a drink, he happily obliged and once I gave him the story, the bastard put the bottle away after drinking, and not back on the shelf, I assumed he'd probably sell it...... I thought he would sell it, really, but to my surprise, he still has it, and pulls it out every time I come over cause he knows I love it.
That's a good friend.
Is it hyped? Yes. Absolutely. But it really is an amazing, beautiful whiskey. It’s something extremely special for sure.
Correct on all points!
Amazing deal Trenton, thanks to Harry for being a fair liquor store so we could all see this video.
What a pickup! Im here excited for Penelope Architect Build 4 😂. Cheers gentlemen enjoy that bottle!
As you should be! Don’t get caught up with the mega unicorns! Concentrate on the great whiskeys on the shelf!
Trenton and Kurton keep the gold coming boys
I thought for sure heads were going to explode on your Jack & Coke episode with the Old Rip & Coke!
Thanks for sharing!
Great review!! It was everything I expected it to be. One day….
Thank you algorithm for showing me this page. Love the vibe. New whiskeytuber duo for me
As great as it is, nothing is worth paying over 1000% over retail. Glad to hear you were able to procure one for the right reasonable price.
You are 100% right about patience. So many excellent bourbons that just sit on the shelf and if you happen to run across something special, it makes it that much better. If you want to plunk down 2-3 grand on a PVW you can get one, however how fun is that? I normally stick to MSRP, however did get a EHTBP for 150 clams recently. Owner was nice and said he was happy to make a nice profit and I was happy that I could buy one albeit above MSRP, but not outrageous. Nice video!
I'd pay 150 for an EHTBP for drinking any day! Enjoy!
Well done!
Trenton- keep doing the stuff that pushes the bar- bc you all do things professionally - you can continue to push the boundaries- even just a 1/2 ounce pour with 1 ounce coke would have been awesome
Cheers guy's great video
Only one of the Pappy lineup that is truly worth the hype - cheers and enjoy!!!
The hype is real on this one. My wife won one in a state lottery and it was love at first pour. Nothing is worth high secondary pricing but it’s amazing whiskey and I’m happy to have one on our shelf.
Enjoy!
Not everything about the past is better, but I REALLY miss sipping on Pappy 12 and 15 in 2009/2010 with a good friend for $8-$12 a pour at a local pub before the hype hit the west coast. Unfortunately, I haven't had it since then. It sounds like it is still a great product and worth the MSRP or a bit higher if you can find it.
I got to try Pappy 15 at a bar for a very very reasonable price and i got a really nice old leather note, with a bit of like cigar tabacco flavor, with great oak spice, a really nice brown sugar, caramel and great subtle vanilla its one of the best Bourbons ive tried for sure atleast top 10. I would love to have a bottle at some point
"Drinkable deodorant, coming to a store near YOU!!!" Kurt, Trenton, awesome video!!! I bet this would def get some type of guard dog or 24 hour cctv coverage!! Great video!!
Unbelievable 😂
I have a 15 year - I have not opened it yet, and I have never tried it. I dont know what special occasion needs to happen for me to break that seal, but I really enjoy knowing its there when that special occasion day comes!
My favourite used be the ORVW family reserve rye, all the older bottlings were just...too old for me. Crazy to think now my empties of the 20 and 23 are worth more than what I paid for them 10 years ago.
I had Pappy 15 for the first time a few weeks ago in Bardstown, it was really really good. But, it’s not worth the secondary price. If you can find it for MSRP or slightly higher it is a buy to me.
Awesome video guys. 👍 And where do you find great bourbon at those prices?
I was fortunate to get a Col EH Taylor barrel proof last week for $65.00. Would never pay secondary for anything as sometimes you will get lucky! Great show!
Lucky find! This is almost a bigger unicorn than Pappy!
Fantastic purchase!
Awesome video
Wow, Congrats guys...
I hear you guys regarding patience and not caving into the secondaries. It took me 3.5 years and finally I won a raffle to get an EH Taylor Barrel proof at retail.
Perfect example! Congratulations!
This is just nuts though - not you, but the bourbon market, in general. Screw. That... 3.5 years to wait for a product that used to cost what and could be found everywhere? Oof. I'm very over giving a crap about 'high end' bourbon or trying to buy the former bottom and mid shelfers that are now hyper allocated. TBH clicked on this vid to see what they paid for this one. Just stay away from my scotch, bourbon people 🥔
@@roc20621 oh my dude. Scoop up any Springbanks or Arran Scotches when you can. They’re getting scooped up and upcharged in my area. Laphroaig 10 year CS is up to $120
@@roc20621 You can have the scotch/swill. Enjoy.
I'm old enough to have had the pleasure of drinking Pappy 15, Lot B and Old Weller when they used only Stitzel-Weller juice. They were the best.
I hate the resale prices on all of the Van Winkle products... but my god the 15 is the best bourbon I've ever had. I want to hate it because of the hype, but it's fantastic. If you can afford to try a pour at a bar or restaurant, give it a try.
I need to take a visit to this liquor store!!
I just scored my second 15 year pappys this year!!!
And yes, I will take 2400 for it!!! Lol. Wouldn't go under 1500 tho
@@momorris1464only lunatics pay 1500 for pappy
Congratulations!
Harry is one helluva guy to sell PVW at retail. Nice score, enjoy it in good health
It’s delicious! I’ve never owned a bottle, but it was absolutely phenomenal when I had it. It blow’s the 12 yr out of the water.
I used to buy Old Rip on a regular basis back when it was readily available. The days of walking into any decent liquor store and walking out with an Old Rip, a Blantons and an Elmer T Lee are gone for good. Even then I was never been able to get a bottle of the 15. I have had several pours and it is better than the 10.
Be patient! Good advice.
In my area if you can find a bottle they are well over $600/bottle. Quick search and some bottles posted for $4k! No way and it's a shame it's been over hyped to this point. MSRP seems worth it, secondary price not at all. Great review guys!
Would like to know how it compares against the Old Fitz..Been hunting both for a long time and agree would not pay secondary.
Wow! That must have been nice! Cheers!
This video is hype at its finest, I’ve been lucky enough to buy a few different pappys bottles the past few years, and when you have it sitting on the table in front of you… yea it’s and experience, but whenever I try my pappy 15, lot b or ORVW blind, they’re not that different that a lot other bourbons out there
I was like you are crazier than Dr Kevorkian!!! 🤯💥🤯💥🤯 But great material as always Gents #cheers
Just love the videos guys. Truly
Thank you!
$159?!?! I had connections and was able to get a 10 year and 12 year at $400 and $700! Less than secondary on both and they were all sold from a store and only offered to certain clients. I thought I got a good deal on a unique opportunity 😂. I saw several 15 year in Kentucky over Thanksgiving and they were all $2K+ from the store. Whatever/whoever your connection is you better treasure it!!! Awesome video!!!
I paid $500 for a Lot B 12-year and $564 for Rip 15-year and was thrilled. Also, got Fitzgerald 17-year for $500 and some nice Weller's. I'm their best customer so I get some sweet bottles and a decent price. Above MSRP but a fraction of secondary market.
I unfortunately missed out on an opportunity to purchase a variety of BTAC from my local Kroger just last Wednesday before thanksgiving (PVW15 being one of them). Went in the Friday after and was told the once in a lifetime opportunity I missed out on. Hopefully will be lucky for a chance again.
The secondary is flat out ridiculous with the prices. I saw Russel's Rear Breed for $1200 and that was just insane. And your right patience is a must.
What does SLB stand for? Really enjoy your videos.
Around 2008 I worked in a big booze store in Indianapolis. Back then, no alcohol sales on Sunday. One Sunday, the boss took the staff to KY. We had a private tour and tasting at Buffalo Trace. We chose two barrels from the tasting for bottling for our store, which was great. We visited another distillery, whose name I can't recall, where we entered an ancient barrelhouse. We tasted a 40 year barrel straight up, right there, dust in the air, sun streaming through the window. It was like we were in a bourbon commercial. (The uncut whisky was concentrated from Angel's Share and too dirty to rate.)
During an employee tasting back at the store one day, we tasted Pappy. I don't remember the age. This was before the fire and price jump, but it was expensive. I didn't like it. Thought it was way too hot, with the added taste of fire and nothing else.
