As a bourbon fan, I would tend to agree with you as far as flavor goes. But I still would go Jack and Coke over the others because most every time I’m drinking that drink, it’s because I don’t want to get tipsy at some type of event and the lower proof helps me pace myself. This was a great video.
I've only been drinking straight whiskeys for a couple of years, but I've been drinking whiskey & soda cocktails for several years. My go-to combos are Bulleit Bourbon & Coke or Sprite, Crown Royal & Coke or Sprite, and Jameson & Dr. Pepper or Ginger Ale.
Canada Dry and Schweppes both work great, but I think ginger beer works better. GB has a little less carbonation so I think the whiskey taste comes through more.
I am new to bourbon and still have a young palette so I prefer a little coke in all my bourbons. I prefer 2 parts bourbon to 1 part coke. I am finding as my palette matures I am using less coke. I can still taste the wonderful bourbon flavors without the burn. My favorite with coke is Weller SR and Russell 10 year. Love all your videos!
I like Crown Royal and Sprite Zero. I like using the Sprite Zero because no sugar usually I use a 24 once cup fill it half way with ice and fill the whiskey to the top of the ice then proceed to put in the rest with the zero. I’m always at home when drinking like this and make it a rule if I’m driving I don’t touch a drop. Great video.
I was introduced to Wild Turkey by Texas, Oklahoma, and Missouri pipeline roughnecks when I was 19 and have loved it since. Though it was shots with that crew, I very much enjoy a Turkey, rock, and coke splash.. I’ll give Knob Creek 9 a look because of you and your son’s presentations. I love how you two are such good friends as well as family..
I prefer 7-Up or Sprite as a soda mixer for whiskey. I think it's cleaner in flavor which helps the whiskey shine. Coke competes too much for me. Great job fellas! Cheers!
I have never been a fan of Jack & Coke, although I have had my fair share in my youthful ignorance. I always preferred Beam & Coke, which makes sense because on the odd occasion that I put Coke in my bourbon now, it is Knob Creek. Great video as usual!
You guys have quickly become my favorite Whiskey channel! WT101 is my favorite bourbon to put in Coke! Gotta try the Old Forester 100 in coke, Love it for the budget daily!
Makers and Sprite is actually my go to there. I find that sprite doesn’t mask the flavor of the bourbon as much. Especially with something as sweet an makers.
For me wild Turkey was too dirty tasting with the Coke Zero. What my go to with Coke Zero I’d have to say would either be angels envy or even basil hayden
Three go-to mixers with Coke. Wild Turkey 101, Old Grand Dad BiB, and Evan Williams BiB. No way with Maker's. Four Roses yellow label also doesn't work for me. I'm curious about the Knob Creek and Old Forester, will give it a try. I won't try the Jack as that would require actually going out and buying a bottle. Fun video as is usually the case.
Excellent choices including not buying Jack Black. It's ridiculous how much better all of those are over Jack & cost the same or less. EW White 1.75L is 27.99 here vs ~38 for Jack Black... Someone gave me a vintage, partial bottle of Jack Black & not til after I drank it, noticed it is 90 proof. Like just about every consumer product, everything including whiskey is getting thinned out, lower quality.
I’m new to your channel and love the Father-Son relationship. Nearly 40 years in the Liquor store business, I’ve never had Jack Daniels either. Tried it the other night and didn’t finish it. I’m with your Dad on that. After watching this video, I poured me a Knob 9 and Coke, and it was delicious. I’m not a Coke fan, but it paired very well. Congrats on your success, looking forward to more videos you put out.
The bullitt high rye with coke is my go to as well as Redemption high rye limited edition with coke they smoother but packs a punch. Great video as well.
to me ginger ale brings out different flavors of bourbon, but I still never use anything over about $24 to mix. Lately my preference is an Old Fashioned or Bourbon with one small ice cube.
Just stumbled across your videos a couple days ago and am really enjoying them. I started with Wt101 and coke 21 years ago when i was at the bar with my buddies every night, and about a year ago I switched up to the Kc 9yo and coke, love them both, and they are my drinks of choice, love your videos, keep them coming.
I usually go with the Jack and coke with a lime wedge, I have never tried Knob Creek with Coke. Going to have to give it a try. Thanks for the content guys, great job as always!

I have tried the Knobb Creek and it was definitely enjoyable, but would rate the BT even higher! I got to commend you for trying the RVP with Coke, something we all want to see, but I must admit would be too timid to attempt.
@@JesseParentGP At about $10 a bottle, sounds like everyone should each get his/her own bottle. And if everyone has their own bottle, you’re right, regardless of what occasion it is, it’s going to be super fun!
I know this one is a year old but, I am not a jack Daniels fan because of the charcoal. I did recently try JTS brown 80 proof in coke and I prefer that to JD. I have yet to try any old forester products which I believe are from brown-Forman. I do prefer just a neat bourbon pour vs a mixer. I’ve also got to retry on the rocks as I used to not be a fan it’s why I prefer a neat pour vs ice.
Kurt I took your advice from one of your earlier episodes. I use Old Grandad 114 for all drinks mixed with bourbon...always a great mixer. Another great video guys.
I know this is an older video but it was good. I knew the KC would win out of those. My second favorite bourbon to have in coke is Bulleit. I think the Rye in it stands out well against the sweet soda. My favorite cocktail using soda is “Sprite 0 sugar (has to be 0), Bulleit, and flavor to your liking with angostura bitters.
This was another recent viewer suggestion and I appreciate you guys for jumping on it so fast, as you usually do! Kurt, I'm definitely surprised with all your extensive bourbon experimentation, this was your very first taste of old #7 Jack since it's so many people's beginner. You can always try the vanilla or cherry coke if either are flavors you really love in bourbon, I think I need to try Old Forester 1920 with cherry coke because I get prominent cherry from that one and I definitely love it.
All great ideas! With all these great comments we may just revisit this topic in all sorts of different ways! Maybe in January or February when the whiskey traffic is a little slower.
4:47 Great idea. If you want something special with your bourbon and Coke, try with Mexican Coke and a full teaspoon of Angostura bitters (to cut the sweetness) on crushed ice. Agreed that the edge of something like Knob Creek 9 will cut through nicely. Thank me later ;)
Here's my blind guess: Old Forester 100. Coke is sweet and all the other whiskeys are of the sweeter variety. I think the Old Forester will balance better. Definitely an experiment to run at home!
I had tried jack years ago and finally decided to try it neat. It was easy to drink and that’s about it. Tried the jack single barrel select and it blew my socks off! One of my favorite bourbons so far!
Regular Jack was 90 proof in the 70s into the early 80s- it was very good mixed with coke. of course. then it went down to 86 proof, then finally the pathetic 80 proof in about 2000. I wrote then a letter of protest, telling them no respectable bourbon is 80 proof. they blathered on about wanting one bottle they could ship to all states, even those with proof restrictions. I reminded them Wild Turkey comes in 2 versions, 80 & 101 for that reason. they sent me a free pass to visit the distillery. didn't go. The Bonded Jack is excellent at 100
What a fun concept for a show! While the only thing I typically use Coke for is getting rust stains out of a toilet bowl, and , I haven't had Jack Black since high school 40 yrs. ago. In the summer time, my hot weather go to cocktail is typically a whiskey and Ginger Ale (or Ginger Beer) with a lime. My preferred whiskeys for this are usually Makers Mark or Seagram's V.O. Simple and refreshing, and I don't have to think too much about it. I will give it a go with the Wild Turkey, OF and Knob to see how those go with the ginger. Thanks again for another fun show!
I started drinking bourbon with Makers and ginger ale. Never drank any bourbon with Coke and now I don't even use ice.Neat only now, but a classic hi-ball with ginger ale... not such a bad thing. You should revisit this video with ginger ale.
Having traveled much of the world, the one constant an American can find at any bar in Ishtar or any other BFE country is Jack Daniels Black Label. You're generally not going to find a good bourbon unless you bring it. Of course, the Knob Creek 9YO, Old Forester 100 & Wild Turkey 101 are all very fine pours. Cheers!
Back when Eagle Rare wasn't impossible to find and stupidly priced, it was truly made to be paired with Coke. The vanilla tones were perfect. It was a 30 dollar bottle, so made sense and still wasn't bad on its own. A shame it's become a unicorn in most places. Of these I go with the 101.
You know eagle rare I tried during the holiday bought two bottles since they ere “rare” initial thought wa dthat eagle rare was smooth and good with Coke Zero but afte that holiday j came away as it wasnt
Cool video. These are the bourbons I like to mix with Coke Zero - Jack Daniel's, Jim Beam, Evan Williams black label, WT101, and Makers Mark. Makers Mark is my goto favorite.
The "official smokey cokey" is Lagavulin 16 and pure cane sugar coke which is tasty but for some reason the Lagavulin 16 gives me the scent/taste of fresh from the wrapper Band-Aids. Such a weird note that I don't mind as much with the coke but not my favorite.
I haven't had a Jack and Coke in a while, or really any bourbon with Coke. But it does fall into a broader category of highball, and I do enjoy a highball when it gets warmer out. My go-to is a mid-tier or bottom shelf bourbon (WT101, KC9, OGD BiB, etc) with a couple of splashes of bitters (Angostura for me, but I don't own many bitters) over ice topped off with club soda or seltzer (Bubly cherry if I'm going with anything flavored). Super refreshing, the bitters accentuate the bourbon rather than mask it, and quenches the thirst better than a neat pour. Anything with sugar or sweetener becomes too sweet for me.
My go-to drink is an old fashioned with WT 101. But I do mix it with coke from time to time. I just got a bottle of Knob Creek Rye, and it does beat out the WT.
First of all , I started “collecting” bourbon about a month ago , I have a few sealed and a several more opened. My question or recommendation is I would love to see a video about the shelf life of bourbon once you break the seal and oxygen takes over , and what changes happen and how long does an open bottle last? Much appreciated, cheers !
In my experience, when you open a bottle, it’s less that the whiskey won’t last a after a certain amount of time as much as the cork failing becoming more and more likely the longer it’s open and the less liquid is inside. A full bottle has very high internal humidity and it keeps the cork moist. When the bottle gets almost empty, the cork is more likely to dry out just enough to let air in, and once that happens the whiskey will go bad very soon. So if there’s a good seal nothing will happen to it
That was fun! Do Ryes next! :-) It's probably not absolutely correct, but we call anything made from soda pop mixed with spirits a "highball". And my favorite highball is a 50-50 mix of Bulleit Rye and Diet Dr. Pepper, over ice. YMMV
My top few “bourbon and coke” are: 1. Bullitt 10 year and coke 2. TX Bourbon Barrel Proof 3. Four Roses and coke. These are my go-to drinks and now are always on hand!
I love wisconsin old fashioned 2 oz of brandy or Southern comfort, dash of bitters. Old fashioned mix and then 7 up for sweet or squirt for sour. Also like wiskey and gin.
I like my whiskey/bourbon and coke. I seldom drink it neat, sometimes with a piece of ice. Typically during the winter I actually like the warmer spice flavor of ginger ale. But then again. I'm not a serious bourbon drinker.
So glad I found this Channel IMO BEST BOURBON CHANNEL!!!! My pick after drinking loads of Bourbon: Single Barrel Cask Strength Jack Daniel's & Coke. It tames it just enough which allows you to really dial in the flavors of the JD. You know which notes are from the Coke so I know what to mute out. Coke with Proof Bourbons IMO works best for me vs water.
My first taste of Whiskey I liked, was Jack and Coke. My question 30 years ago was, Is that Whiskey? It is good! I had some Buffalo Trace with Coke yesterday, like that mix. It's not the same selection here in Norway, but you can order many brands. So good advice is appreciated, and often used. Thanks for your uploads. Greetings from Norway
First, thank you! I love the channel. Second, try using the following - good crystal-clear ice, and a "Mexican" Coke (made with Cane Sugar, not Corn Syrup). Jack is good, but Jim Beam Black has been my go-to for a long while now.
Per your request on taste inputs regarding mixers with bourbon. I truly enjoy bourbons neat or over a ice cube at higher proofs. Vodka mixers are preferred with tonic.
I’m not a big fan of whiskey with Coke. I prefer to mix with ginger ale. Jameson and ginger I’ve had several times even though it doesn’t really need the ginger ale. I bet the Pappy and ginger would be a better combo even though I would never mix it myself if I was lucky enough to find a bottle
In my opinion, Jack and Coke is so popular exactly for the reason you describe; you cant taste much of the whiskey. Most people I know that drink Jack and Coke are not whiskey drinkers and dont like the taste of it. I would also throw in Jim Beam and Evan Williams black labels. The bottled in bond however really stands above for me....the WT101 as well. If I pay much more than those for a bottle, I probably dont want to be mixing it in a coke.
i always add lime or lemon to whisky and coke to counter the sweetness. ive been using coke zero to manage calories and it also takes less lime to cover
Makers and coke has always been my go to but Knob and coke is amazing cause the spiciness really brings out the cola. Honorable mention to Weller SR and coke if you can get it around the $30 msrp. Wheated bourbon tends to work best.
Larceny and Coke Zero is my go-to, and lately I've kept a bottle of WT 101 for mixing as well. For the price point, they're both excellent mixers. I dig the wheated bourbons a lot, but I cannot stomach Maker's at all, for some reason.
Jack and Coke was my go-to beverage for a looooong time, until I saw a late night TV show host drinking whiskey neat on his final show, so I did the same. Changed my perspective on whiskey that night. Lately, I've mixed Bonded Jack with Coke and it was great. I've also enjoyed my share of rum and Cokes and my favorite spiced mixing rum is Sailor Jerry.
I’ve done this same thing, hands down the absolute best bourbon I would never do again and that’s Bookers and coke. It’s on a completely different level. Back in the day $45 for Bookers you could experiment and Bookers was amazing with coke
If I'm doing a bourbon and coke, the goto is definitely Woodford. Michters and Long branch are also a solid choice. But I also recommend using coke zero. The taste and texture is much better than full coke.
This video took me back to my days in the Navy in the 1960’s & 70’s. Even before I watched the video I knew that you would pick Knob Creek as the best combo because Jim Beam Bourbon and coke was the overwhelming drink of choice for us. I enjoy your videos.
I live just north of Kentucky and we have alot of great Bourbon here but I think it is because of our local just up I65 between Louisville and Indianapolis. I don't have problems finding most Bourbon's here for a great price.
I drank Jack Daniels and Coke for years, but I tried Jim Beam (white label) and Coke once, and I was so impressed that I switched to bourbon on the spot. Never bought JD ever since. Do you drink regular, plain Jane, Jim Beam ever? Of the choices you presented in this video, I would likely choose Knob Creek and Coke. Love KC 9!
Normally Jack Daniels With Coke ALWAYS. However I Did Have A Jack n Coke With Jack Daniels Single Barrel Single Proof (129proof) And It Was The Best Drink I’ve Had In My Life.
I would say the Wild Turkey 101 and Coke would win. At least, that's what I tend to prefer. I'm a longtime bourbon drinker but only started drinking the occasional Whisky and Coke about a year ago. (Full disclosure: I never drank cola of any kind till about a year ago; it just never interested me.) But I do find there's something particularly special about a high-ABV bourbon with Coke (or Pepsi). Fun video, cheers!
Favorites (aside from Jack and Coke) is Four Roses and Evan Williams Bottled in Bond. I do love Old Forester 100 and Wild Turkey 101 as well so glad to see those in here too. And I feel guilty doing it, but a 1792 Small Batch and Coke is nice as well. I'll have to try the Knob Creek and Coke as well.
As a bourbon fan, I would tend to agree with you as far as flavor goes. But I still would go Jack and Coke over the others because most every time I’m drinking that drink, it’s because I don’t want to get tipsy at some type of event and the lower proof helps me pace myself. This was a great video.

Mexican coke uses cane sugar. US coke uses a different sweetener

It's also great for cleaning corrosion off of battery terminals. It dissolves it instantly. That's an old mechanic's trick.
Summer is for Birddog Apple and Ginger Ale with a little lime😁
Nice!
@@FakingANervethat must mean the soda is very acidic, because I use vinegar to neutralize the base of corroded batteries.
@@motohead077 Indeed it is. It has a pH of about 2 or 2.5, if memory serves me.
Cheers!
Great video. Surprisingly, Jameson cold brew and Coke is excellent...even though its not a bourbon.
Just bought my 1st bottle of Eagle so hope your right
Love Wild Turkey 101, also ordered a Rye called Sazerac been told its tidy
@JA Cannon Eagle Rare has more round edges than 101. For 30 bucks, it's something you can actually sip neat. Mixed with Coke, it is pretty dangerous.
You know eagle rare I tried during the holiday bought two bottles since they ere “rare” initial thought wa dthat eagle rare was smooth and good with Coke Zero but afte that holiday j came away as it wasnt
I like Old Grandad BIB for a whiskey coke because it’s so inexpensive but it’s also strong enough to stand out
On the rare occasion that I make a highball its Evan Williams black label and coke. New sub. Great channel. Cheers.
Cool video. These are the bourbons I like to mix with Coke Zero - Jack Daniel's, Jim Beam, Evan Williams black label, WT101, and Makers Mark. Makers Mark is my goto favorite.
Great video guys! You should also try a “smokey coke” and then try all of these whiskies mixed with either 7-Up or ginger ale.
Islay scotch and ginger ale is a game changer!!!
Love how Trenton calls his oldman "Bro". Classic
So if there’s a good seal nothing will happen to it
@@thomasmichael6509 to add to this, it’s never a bad idea to periodically lay your bottles on their side to resaturate the cork
A couple videos coming very soon to try and help clear up questions like this one. Good question!
Knob creek is a fav of mine with coke. Really enjoy it in an old fashioned. Especially the knob 12 😉
That was fun! Do Ryes next! :-) It's probably not absolutely correct, but we call anything made from soda pop mixed with spirits a "highball". And my favorite highball is a 50-50 mix of Bulleit Rye and Diet Dr. Pepper, over ice. YMMV
My top few “bourbon and coke” are:
1. Bullitt 10 year and coke
2. TX Bourbon Barrel Proof
3. Four Roses and coke.
These are my go-to drinks and now are always on hand!

woodfood reserve double oaked makes the best bourbon and coke. It is a higher price point for a mix but so good
We need the egg nog version of this video.
I love wisconsin old fashioned 2 oz of brandy or Southern comfort, dash of bitters. Old fashioned mix and then 7 up for sweet or squirt for sour. Also like wiskey and gin.
Evan Williams Black Label and Coke Zero.
Jacks number one for me, try Cown Royal its very smooth.
Jim beam black when I have few extra $, benchmark, Evan Williams. Lower end for me makes the whiskey + coke!
Im really into the new Jim Beam 7 yr, such a value. But for me a good old Jim Beam white lable with coke is hard to beat.
*Evan Williams, Bottled in Bond*
I think it's great for whiskey and coke, but you need to make sure your ice is high quality 👍
Wild Turkey 101 or the Makers. I don't like wasting good whiskey with Coke, I stick to good rum.
Single Barrel Jack and coke all the way. However a good summer drink is Bsb ....brown sugar bourbon and sweet tea.
That's a easy one for me..... Jim Beam black! Honorable mention to Knock Creek! Cheer's
The bottle I always have on hand for a quick mixed drink is Evan Williams bottled in bond. Wild Turkey 101 would be my second choice.
I drink either wild turkey, old grandad bonded or 114, and my favorite is probably buffalo trace.
My go-to mixes are Woodford Reserve with caffeine free coke... about 1 shot per 16oz.
Or with 1792 small batch.
I like a mild mix with mine.
i always add lime or lemon to whisky and coke to counter the sweetness. ive been using coke zero to manage calories and it also takes less lime to cover
Makers and coke has always been my go to but Knob and coke is amazing cause the spiciness really brings out the cola. Honorable mention to Weller SR and coke if you can get it around the $30 msrp. Wheated bourbon tends to work best.
I agree…I like my Makers Mark Cast Strength with my Coke…will also have to Try the Knob Creek & Coke.
KC 9. Love it. Sometimes splurge and do the 120 proof.
Larceny and Coke Zero is my go-to, and lately I've kept a bottle of WT 101 for mixing as well. For the price point, they're both excellent mixers. I dig the wheated bourbons a lot, but I cannot stomach Maker's at all, for some reason.
I LOVE Larceny straight. Never tried it with Coke Zero but I think I will now.
If you think that is good, try Pre 2016 KC 9yr with cola or without. At least 2Xs better than post 2020 KC
I’ve done this same thing, hands down the absolute best bourbon I would never do again and that’s Bookers and coke. It’s on a completely different level. Back in the day $45 for Bookers you could experiment and Bookers was amazing with coke
The good old days!
If I'm doing a bourbon and coke, the goto is definitely Woodford. Michters and Long branch are also a solid choice. But I also recommend using coke zero. The taste and texture is much better than full coke.
I think knob creek is gonna win, I always drink knob creek 9 year & coke...I'm drinking one as I'm watching this right now haha
Love KC 9!
Personally not a fan of basic JB. Some of the other entry level JB, yes.
Gentlemen jack and coke is up there for me, I haven't had Old Forrester with coke it's the only one I haven't tried out of these selections
Very Old Barton at $14-$20 with Coke Zero is my go to.
When I mixed, I preferred ginger ale. Jack and ginger.
Great vid choice
Myself I go with regular Jim Beam white label with coke
