  • “Don’t Lie To Me” by The Rolling Stones
    Composers: Mick Jagger, Keith Richards
    Lyrics:
Well, let's talk it over baby before we start
I heard about the way you used to do your part
Don't lie to me, don't you lie to me
    'Cause you make me mad
And I get evil as a man can be
Well, all kinds of people that I just can't stand
That's a lying woman and a cheatin’ man
Don't lie to me, don't you lie to me
    'Cause you make me mad
And I get evil as a man can be
Well, I could love you baby and it ain't no lie
I swear be with ya ‘til the well run dry
Don't lie to me, don't you lie to me
    'Cause you make me mad
And I get shook up as a man can be
Well, let's talk it over baby before we start
I heard about the way you used to do your part
Don't lie to me, don't you lie to me
    'Cause you make me mad
And I get shook up as a man can be
Well, well, well let's talk it over baby before we start
I heard about the way you used to do your part
Don't lie to me, don't you lie to me
    'Cause it make me mad
And I get evil as a man can be

The Rolling Stones covered a lot of blues songs and surely this is a cover. George Harrison would be turning in his grave because he was condemned for less than this. Though this is a very good cover version.

It seems that several, if not a lot, of claimed Jagger-Richards compositions are actually covers. They shouldn't be doing that, they don't need to, as they have many good songs of their own.

The ultra marathon Rolling Stones outlived the rest of the bands from the '60s. Still Kickin' and Rockin' with royalty. They've now come full circle creating amazing classic '60s style music. Like this lovely song, "Don't Lie To Me." Cheers mates. Love it!

Was it Ft. Worth? Agree (especially about MT who is always on fire). Interesting that the live version you referenced is in a shuffle rhythm as opposed to this one which uses straight eighths. Tampa Red's original shuffles. I think it's Ian Stewart that takes full advantage here. Both are great.

      I break into 3 parts
      1- 63 to 65
      2- 66 & 67
      3- 68 & 69
On pure sales and popularity, it’s the Beatles all the way. But that’s not how I like to measure them
      1. 63 to 65.
Beatles had massive hit pop songs largely written by Lennon and McCartney. Stones we’re largely covers with limited chart success until Satisfsction. However, on pure groove, Stones early work to me holds up better. Ya never hear an early Beatles song in a Scorsese movie do ya. Edge to Stones
      66 & 67
Brian Jones musicianship was on fire and Mick & Keith were now boba fife song writers with plenty of great singles and improving albums, but the Beatles delivered Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt Pepper and Magical Mystery. Edge to Beatles
      68 & 69
Beatles deliver white album and abbey road (my two fave Beatles albums) but they come up just short against Beggars Banquet and Let it Bleed. Why? The Beatles were wrapping it up and the Stones were just getting better with even better albums, tours and rock n roll ahead. Edge to Stones
Over all, love the Beatles (2nd fave band) but the 60s Stones is rock and roll thru and thru.
