Patti has always been the tell it like it is type. I don't believe she was gossiping, only speaking about what she knew as a close friend of his. Let's remember, he's passed away and his music is still the most important part of our lives. This was not information that came as a surprise to many AT ALL!
How dare they use Patti, especially after leaving Patti out of the entire documentary except for the short clip with Andy! Luther went backstage at the Apollo as a young man and marched right up to Patti, Sarah, Nona, and at the time Cindy Birdsong and declared he was indeed determined to start a fan club for Patti Labelle and the Bluebells while simultaneously serving this new venture as its President. Patti was family, and Mary Ida Vandross, as well as Luther, had anything and everything they could think of in part from Patti! If anyone should've had the most time, it would be Patti first with commentary from Nona, Cindy Birdsong, and any archived audio or film of the late Sarah Dash at the the beginning of this documentary! I know personally first hand just what a support Patti was, particularly in the last months of his life. How deplorable! 🤬💩 Also missing was Bette Midler who adored Luther and still does! Something was off here, and it was evident when the documentary skipped over his formative years in which Patti Labelle and the Blubells were a HUGE part of! 💔
I don’t think that anybody would care about Luther Vandross sexuality. The only thing that people would care about is his music. However, that still wasn’t Patti place to tell his business especially when he is not here to defend himself.
@@debraagbejimi NOW we do not care. Back in 90s it was cared about. Look at how Ellen lost her tv show. Record companies told Luther he would loose his lady fans. NOT TRUE. Everybody loves Luther! Older religious folks may care but the masses do not.
It is so unfair of people to attack Patti for her misstep. She was being loving and kind in her description of his truth. Perhaps she shouldn't have said it, but she definitely wasn't trying to be messy.
Only the ignorant are giving backlash. Patti and Luther were friends. He is gone. That was their relationship. She was kool with his mother and helped her when she moved to Philly in her final years. Leave my Patti alone.
I don’t want to watch it now, because I do not play about Patti, honey. I do not like that bullsh*t. That man loved this woman. Patti was Luther’s very dear friend. That was very corny/tacky of the producers of this doc.
I'll get in front of you. I wonder what she said that they wouldn't put in the documentary? She probably set them straight no pun intended. Patti supports everybody so they need to get off of Patti cause we're gonna get right up in here and say something. Get on somewhere & leave her alone!!!
I believe the Luther Vandross documentary was put together by his estate (meaning not his family but record executives trying to make money off of his legacy). I don't see Patti LaBelle as a "villian" of any kind. Patti simply answered Andy Cohen's questions on Watch What Happens Live. Why hasn't anyone checked Andy Cohen for asking about Luther Vandross' sexuality?
I'm a huge Luther fan. I thought it was vitiriolic how they depicted her. Especially, after learning now that the producers came to her house. And the interviee is not objective. It paints Luther as a Saint without alluding that he could be very difficult. For instance, they blame his record company for his lack of #1 hits etc., when Luther was reluctant to fully promote himself.
Patti Pie could have said from the jump with Andy Cohen. 2 words! No Comment! Period! She was Luther's friend & showed how private she wasnt in giving her 2-cents on his personal life!
@@carbleI'm sure she realizes that now, but her love for him should warrant a little grace. People are just all too eager to crucify folks for their mistakes. It's nothing new, tho.
she had no right out him nor assume here sexuality it was her place or business he didnt ask her to say these things if he pass away if thats the incase he would have done it his self or ask family members or friends closes to him why would just chose her
She didn't out him at all. Stop it with the fake outrage. Patti took care of him when he couldn't and then took care of his mother. Please...no malicious intent at all. She discussed how hurt her friend was that he could be his true self and as evident by the comments, I see why. However, there are books that discussed his sexuality way before Patti said anything.
Patti's sowed bad seeds talking about a lot of different people needlessly. Its biting Patti back in a nasty way. I think one of the nastiest ways too. Being messy catches up to you. That said, I like Patti overall. She's just got insecurities -- like many of us have.
@KD-yh8gg are you kidding me? Tina Turner, Madonna, Diana Ross, Al Green, Cindy Birdsong, Otis Williams, Jackie Wilson etc ... Patti stay running her mouth with one-sided stories.... And is very petty & insecure. She's got a crazy side to her. Just needless gossip

People clearly don't know what it was like back in the 90s.

Patti was wrong. Luther never confirmed it. Why wait until he’s dead to confirm it.

Wow!
I think Patti's estate should sue for Defamation of Character
That not defamation of character. She said it. She did say what she said. You can only sue if someone lies on you.
He never came out so yes it’s wrong. She had no right.
WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS NOW [LOVE]
Disagree that it was taken out of context. Patti said what she said, and although she may have meant well, she should've known to keep it private.

There's a lot to be outraged about but not about Patti & Luther .
