Absolutely. So many waves of diverse & original sounding music. Goth, Rock, Indie, New Romantics, Punk, Heavy Metal (& the New Wave Heavy Metal), Dance, Electronica, Northern Soul..... Endless. So much positive energy despite some pretty bleak periods.
The Mission, The Cult, Jesus and Mary Chain, Sisters of Mercy, Heroes del Silencio... I'm so blessed that this bands (among others) are part of my life.
Super time to be around in crazy 20s for AMAZING talented musicians at the time. US "late Boomers/Gen Xers" have AMAZINFG talent and creativity! All orginal. AND radio never played all undergound or pirate radio later nite.
This song is wisdom and a warning. I faked my age at a goth club in L.A. back in the early 90's. I danced to this....This song was still playing strong back then and I feel it will go ' Main Stream ' sooner than later. Some heavy days are on us and I feel like the 80's underground music warned us it would be this way.
It was the Mission's first major crossover hit, blasting into the Top 40 of the UK charts at number 24 and peaking at number 11 the following week,in late January 1987. I'm sure it was probably referring to something else but I equated it with the post-industrial wasteland up and down the land left by the economic scarring and Thatcher government policies of the years leading up to that time.
Being able to listen to the Mission UK was the only thing that got me through my 6 month naval deployments at sea! I cant even describe how lonely those were. I would find a place on the bow to listen to this song and stare into the sea.
English landscapes, summer woodlands, old churches, stone circles, cider, youth, love, childhood, the year 1987........these are just a few of the beautiful things I think of when I listen to the Mission. The spirit will live forever
It was far more limited as far as gear goes, and in a way I think that forced people to be creative as far as filling up the "space". Totally love that stuff too.
Fun Fact: This was used as soundtrack for "Miami Vice" , the episode's title was "Theresa". It aired first in the US in February 1987. You're welcome...😎👌

This song reminds me so much of one of my other favorite bands of the time...Echo and the Bunnymen. Oh, how I wish people were making wonderful music like this nowadays. My only hope is that I have introduced my children to my old alternative music so they can keep the fan base going.
I listened to The Mission while I was at university, especially while doing a module on gothic literature. The lyrics are truly gothic in the literary sense. I love the insistent pounding of the rhythm section and how the guitar adds subtle soaring highlights... and Wayne Hussey's voice, obviously. Great stuff!
took my wife to see them at the Astoria Theatre in 1988 when she was pregnant with our first child, it was so loud that I thought that she was going to deliver on the spot a great gig
GREAT band. I miss the purity and beauty of 80's music. And the deep lyrics inside the tapestry of Mission's music makes me wonder why they arent' as big as the biggest bands today.
Most gothic rock is simply too intelligent and deep for the masses to be able to comprehend, let alone accept. Don't wonder, this is seriously the answer.

Heard this song for the first time on a free (pirate) radio when I was like 15 or 16 years old. I remember this song was played at a party in Leuven Belgium when I was 17 and totally wasted after drinking too many Stella beers. Cheers to the Mission and all the people out there who like this song as much as I do
Oh my, I've lost count the amount of times I went to see The Mission in the 80's always came to Sheffield Poly....at least 5 or 6 times a year. Even had a Mission necklace !

I saw these guys in 1988 in Montevideo, Uruguay... Superb concert.. Dark, energétic, misterious, enigmátic, power full.. Great music.. Sounded like gotic rock back then but still sounds good With this kinda dance remix versión.. Lyrics are awsome.. Tremenda banda de los 80

Strung out high, above you all
Fateful wind blows through this land
Howls my name, heralds my fall

The Final Chapter, God's Own Medicine, Children, Carved in Sand, Grains of Sand, Aura, great albums. No grave concern for repercussions... Oh the 80ties...
Saw them live at The John Anson Ford Theater in Los Angeles 1988. AMAZING SHOW!!!!!
Me tonight alone with memories of Sisters, Fields and Missions
@@markol6327 just watch out for the new Gary Numan Stuff. Stay healthy
Me the same, but stuck in semi-quarantine, with a good corn beer and some top-quality weed!
The best 3 bands ever. Totally agree. Still searching the music landscape to find anything with the same impact.
Heard this song for the first time on a free (pirate) radio when I was like 15 or 16 years old. I remember this song was played at a party in Leuven Belgium when I was 17 and totally wasted after drinking too many Stella beers. Cheers to the Mission and all the people out there who like this song as much as I do
The best music..for ever...
Oh my, I've lost count the amount of times I went to see The Mission in the 80's always came to Sheffield Poly....at least 5 or 6 times a year. Even had a Mission necklace !
Excellent version for a great song, it's a great band of dark wave, congratulations
The Mission intrigue me. I never felt the need to own any of their music nor listen to them. Then I went to see them one night at the Astoria in London. One absolutely *storming gig* . Just *EXCELLENT!!!*
HIPNÓTICO , ÉPICO Y MAJESTUOSO¡¡

" Tower of strength" is one of the greatest songs I've ever heard and in my all time top 10 ,this track was in preparation for it.
Hey, I had a great band I was managing perform it live at my wedding for my wedding march song, Mission wasn't available, ha ha. They did a great job. Marriage lasted 6 I months but , Tower of Strength ...FOREVER
@@levanamedina7097 fair play to you.
Listening to this song on SiriusXM right now and immediately had to find this. Amazing. The beat just gets to me.
Do you know how long you had to wait for your favorite radio station to play your favorite song? Often enough, if you didn't know someone who owned the album, you had to call in with a request and then you waited at least an hour!
Great version of this tune 😀
So much better than the talentless crap that is about today. Can't even call it music. 80's was such a great decade. That's main stream chart music I am refering to. Not the metal/thrash/punk bands that are turning out some great music.
YOu're overlooking a lot of good music then, too bad
jesus christ shut the fuck up
It's just hard to find flipping through u - toob - still alot of good new music - the 80s is over & isn't coming back
The Leveller amen
So true. ☮️☯️👍
Haven't heard this in like 10 years. Love this band.
It's one of tracks you never get fed up with listening to.

I ve always loved this great band!
Wonderful music. I found out here by accident. Thank you.
Goth band with a singer called Wayne . Sums it up really
I loved The Mission UK. God I miss Wayne Hussey and Simon!
I saw them in 1986 Leeds football ground, u2. The fall, the mission, and the pretenders on Bill, what a day the mission stole the show were even better than u2, jumped the cue and was at front by the stage, epic day!!
Better than U2 80's 😂😂😂😂. I think no.
Wonderful song
Seen several versions of this song....by far, my favorite. ..well done
Los vi en concierto en el año 88 en Valencia. Grandes!!! Magníficos!!!
👏👏👏👏
I saw these guys in 1988 in Montevideo, Uruguay... Superb concert.. Dark, energétic, misterious, enigmátic, power full.. Great music.. Sounded like gotic rock back then but still sounds good With this kinda dance remix versión.. Lyrics are awsome.. Tremenda banda de los 80
Still come back to this great song..... often ❤😊❤
