Bless him, he’s so visually intelligent, he really has no clue that he sees things and stores visual info with so much more detail than the average human, yet he is so good at explaining & establishing authority in an instant. I feel like the whole team is going to end up with a British or US tv deal as they hit 40s, the twins team is absolutely genius with video all around, and you gotta love that it’s a family company (I feel like Ashton is a welsh by now lol) involving no kids! Just beautiful pups & zero exploitation.
Great idea for a video would be to do swatches to show color theory combos and how the colors can mix, mute, mud, contrast, etc when used together. A black or white base can also make a big impact on depending/lightening the colors uses 6 but would be cool to see multiple swatch combos and how to use color theory as it applies to makeup. Showing how it impacts makeup in a long video would be very educational and entertaining.
You know… I actually swatched them on my hands and never filmed it for some reason! Black and white would change the tone for sure, but tend to just lighten and darken in makeup.
@@RobertWelsh Could also use some tips on how to tell if a color has more red or blue in it. I’m currently trying to teach my 14yo this so that she doesn’t make the same mistakes I did at that age. 🤡
Definitely feel a longer form video is needed for someone who has zero “color theory” knowledge. Because, I didn’t grasp how you should pick colors.. I can see how to visualize if a purple has more blue or red in it - but what colors should I stay away from based on those undertones?
@@RobertWelshthis is an old video but if you check - I am wondering if you know that you see differently than the average person. I am chuckling, I cannot visualize darkening or lightening a shade with any accuracy lol. Your theory education is fantastic but the endless “but show us” comments are because a small but significant chunk of us don’t see color as detailed as you. Some of those shades look identical to us and we understand intellectually but we have a hard time seeing warm vs cool, or if a color is greyed out or nuded. I have a palette with grey lavender & plum, my eye area is cool toned, I actually yelled “a ha” when I realized it was for a natural looking contour, which I only knew once it was on. And I just learned a couple years ago how to shade my eyes (from you ofc), I was so close but couldn’t translate the little tricks that looked good into a cohesive method. I knew flicking my eyeliner into my outer corner looked good, but never thought of putting a dot of dark shadow there lol 😂 some of us just have to watch you do it, a to Z. Instead of inheriting my parents’ artistic & visual talents, I have exceptional spelling. Boo! There’s spellcheck so whoop-te-do-da 😂
So important to understand colour theory in the makeup industry. Its wonderful to see a trained makeup artist explain some of this in an easy to understand way.
Beauty bay is an absolutely perfect eyeshadow palette to learn to use colours. You can get a palette with literally every colour of the rainbow in it for no money at all. Love that rob was using it
I would love to see you do an example showing us what u mean. It's kind of hard for some of us to visualize.... Please and thank you. Love you Robert!!!

Such a wonderful video Robert! Could you possibly do like a series with different color combinations and the color wheel? Or just like a color wheel masterclass full length video?! I feel like we could all greatly benefit from that ( or at least I would ). I love you and your content sooo much! Have a great day Robert! And never stop being you! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Robert, I absolutely love every single thing you do! You're just brilliant and pretty much the gospel - if Robert says it's no good... then it's no good 😅 I believe a lot of us feel that way! It's just easier! 🖤💜 I'd dearly love to send you a private message about something horrible that happened to me on 2/10 and the entire month of February. I'd like you share it with James as well. I'd really appreciate it, it would mean the world. Not a scam or anything like that. I just believe with the lovely personalities you two have, y'all would be the best to share this with. Great video! Have a beautiful, blessed day 💕🐞😊
@Robert Welsh I had something happen to me by my sister, that led to me being in the hospital for 18 days, and when I came out, my home had been robbed by my drug addict daughter, her best friend, and my granddaughter. They took about 90% of my belongings, from a can opener to almost all of my clothes to my parents ashes. I just wanted to privately talk to you (both) for a quick minute, if you would be so kind. If not, I completely understand. I'm sure you get requests like these all the time! I still watch and adore you both immensely! 🖤💜

I think the blending is the most important part of avoiding muddy eyeshadow looks. Do not over blend. Put the shade where you want, blend lightly, blend the edges of it, then leave it alone. Do the same with each color on the eyelid. Then stop! Don’t over blend
Hi RW 👋 more of these *please* . more of this type of "teaching-style" content *but in long form* so that you don't feel the need to cram it all in (behave yourself) AND so that we don't get unmotivated to learn by getting a ton of overwhelming info all at once. Thank you 🙏Thank you 🙏Thank you 🙏
Your makeup look is so stunning I can’t pay attention to the video I just keep staring with my mounts open you are so gorgeous and the makeup skill is 🔥 😮
This is obvious to me because I went to art school. But not everyone needed to learn colour theory in school so they may not be aware. I love how you explained this without being patronizing.
I'm an artist so I'm very interested in color theory. I'd love a video (or multiple) that focuses on how to utilize color theory in makeup like this. I think that seeing visual examples of how these different undertones complement or neutralize each other could be really fun and helpful for a lot of people. Love your videos
@@RobertWelsh it amazes me how companies can put colors in a palette together that they know won’t mix well. A bunch of warm berry tones and a few pops of cool blue or purple? No thank you. I paint with watercolors so I love eyeshadow palettes that look like my paint palettes.
Careful, cause green is not a "pure" primary color, it's a secondary color made with yellow and blue, so a green with more blue (almost like a turquoise) will be better to use with a purple with more blue in it (like James said).
I do a slightly bronzy gold all over and then a red based purple for the l our corner as my every day and it looks amazing (occasionally i add a blue green pop in the crease)
Where did you get those beautiful palettes? I love that they are separated colors with basically every variation of those colors in all different finishes ❤❤
I understand color theory very well (artist parents) but I have a hard time identifying color that isn’t extremely clear (I can see that my eyes aren’t brown but not what they are, but a 🛑 is fine). Any time I want to do a colorful look, I swatch it out on my hand. I will admit, I will use 5 different palettes to find the shades I want lol, but it’s a great way for people who aren’t so visually skilled to figure this out. I love Robert’s channel for explaining things so well, even tho he’s obv very visual high IQ & probably cannot imagine how little info ppl like me get through sight. Weirdly enuf tho, even without seeing the scar, I can tell the twins apart despite being face blind lol
I used to mix car paint. Every base color has between 6 to 60+ colors mixed together. To create color, you need color! Once you understand how color works, you’ll never have this issue. Thanks for educating us on the science of makeup! It’s everything! 💋🤍
Here's my question to you, Robert. In one of your most recent YTs you said that most people know that in order to make your eye color pop, use a complimentary color. My eyes are green. But red eyeshadow makes me look like I have conjunctivitis. I don't know why. Please help me to not look contagious.
I would explain ot to my beauty school students like this, if u mix all 3 primary colors its brown. So purple is red and blue, the missing primary color is yellow so any color containing yellow, whether its yellow itself, green or orange is going to add that missing primary and its going to go brown. You dont need to remember the color wheel as much if u just remember the 3 primarys and how they mix ti make secondary, which we all learn as kids.
I couldn't figure out why when doing my "mermaid hair" of blue, purple, and green, the purple wouldn't show up and the blue turned to teal so my hair just looked green :\ followed the color wheel, though, and while it's still not perfect, i have obvious color variation now :D
I use the same palette you use, often only one color packed on WITH eyeshadow primer, and a few hours later 80% of the color intensity will be faded 😭😭😭 what am I doing wrong??
