    Nice, clear instruction Chris. I’ve always used the “close the club face at address” method, but now you’ve given me another option: to just try to swing “around” a bit more. I am a better player so I think manipulating my swing might feel better; as you say, the shut club face in the backswing could seem unnatural.

    Good advice Chris. Others may find like me that getting some of the modern low spin balls to draw is pretty difficult with a driver. Range balls no problem but if I really need to hit a draw on the course I find my 4 wood so much easier.

    This confirmed what I was wondering as far as pre setting the club face. Great explanation of the how and why.

  • @swisstrader

    Totally correct on the bit about pre-setting the clubface and it feeling weird when you take it back. I can hit the shot but not with full confidence based on how the club feels coming back and through.

    HELLO CRIS, I am a senior golfer and that course looks great. You are the nearest to what ive asked for. I HAVE A COBRA RED MAX OFFSET DRAW SUPERLITE SHAFT £249 SITTING IN A BAG AT HOME . NO ONE HAS IT SEEMS ANY IDEA ON SET UP WITH THIS CLUB FEET OR BALL POSITION. You though have opened my eyes and I will add it to my bag tomorrow with a backup driver , as your aware the face on offset is closed . In my next reply I will let you know if it worked. paul

    anyway if you want to hit a good draw you"ve got to hit the ball on the outside of center. The more important part is to have a flat or even a down swing at impact to keep the clubface from opening or even sliding under the ball at impact.
    Lastly it's not in pursuit of additional yardage so much as to match ball flight to target landing area. This is where a draw fails as you have to start the shot into trouble to bring the ball back away from trouble. That is pretty-much the problem with any breaking shot. And if it doesn't break or breaks too early then you're just in trouble.
    The real reason to hit any breaking shot is to either follow the fairway line or play the opposite line so the ball comes back into play when it lands. As it is far easier to hit a controlled cut shot than a controlled draw. So instead of trying to hit a draw around thr side of a lake you can hit a cut shot out over the lake and bring it back onto land. My guess is that most golfers would prefer to play a cut over a fade next to a stretch of hazard. A fade is very hard to hit and get back into play.

    Whenever I try to hit a draw, I subconsciously square up the face & wind up hitting it dead straight to the right. I've tried a number of ways to get the path from the inside to out but just can't get it. On the other hand I do tend to hit the ball straight most of the time so I guess I'll just have to live with that ☺️

    • @paulhutchins1236
      @paulhutchins1236 6 років тому

      Simon Short, nobody wants to just hit it straight 😂😂😂 love this comment. I believe these things can be over thought! Hit it straight, keep it on the fairway and greens, the game is simple!

    • @richardoakley6560
      @richardoakley6560 6 років тому

      Straight shots are boring. Exaggerate where you aim, look where you want it to finis, and swing.
      Simple.

    • @pelassancho24
      @pelassancho24 2 роки тому

      I also have the hardest trouble getting my ball to break. Fade? Forget about it. Tired of being ridiculed by my golfing partners for just driving the ball straight down the fairway say 280-300 feet. I wish they would recognize it as a form of bullying. Excited about trying the “closed at address” tomorrow at the range. Hopefully at can at least develop a slice if the draw doesn’t come around. Fingers crossed!

    Hi i can hit the draw using your instruction method,However i dont get it verry high,ive been told to move the ball back a little in my setup,is this correct,as you dont say aneything about the ball,im trying to hit a high draw please help victor.

    • @Warp33
      @Warp33 7 років тому

      Gwen Blanchard Check your strike location. You don't want it low or against the heel for a high draw. Ball positon is relative to where you hit it on the face. In theory the further forward you put the ball the lower the strike location, assuming that you have the ball of your front heel from the start. And don't move your upper body forward, that will create an descending strike. Upwards strike is key.

    • @mikerodrick2430
      @mikerodrick2430 6 років тому +2

      If you move the ball back in your stance, at contact the club face will be open but as you rotate, the face will close is what's needed to hit a draw. The problem is that if you quit rotating, you'll hit it dead straight to the right & the ball will never move. For a draw, the swing must come farther from the inside & a bit flatter so your swing catches the inside of the ball. The ball should be teed a bit higher. This isn't as easy as it sounds. You might want to try using a longer iron rather than a driver to begin. Even if you hit a hook, you're on the right track.

    Chris, Today I was successful at drawing the ball with my driver ! Thanks to you. Your comment about doing what works for you was the key. I used the preset method and I had to flatten my swing plane somewhat, it worked for me,

    Fantastic lesson. I cant seem stop my body from over rotating on the shot or lower (more around the body) swing path, which has resulted so far in very low trajectory draw/hooks. Can't seem to mentally get my body to do a normal swing, but closing the face feels to be happening.

      @alanpercy7883 6 років тому

      I generally really get a lot from your videos. This one though just seemed to take a very long time to explain that there is no one technique that works for everyone; that all one can do is one to go and try out several different methods and see what works. That didn’t seem particularly instructional when compared with your other videos, insofar as that sentiment could be applied to any aspect of swing etc.
      PS I did understand it, I just didn’t think it was helpful on this occasion, nor to your usual high standard of advice and instruction.

    • @ChrisRyanGolf

      Hi Alan, fair enough happy to accept that everyone has their own opinion. Just a shame that if you have benefitted from other videos you had to leave such a negative comment. Anyway, appreciate your feedback and hope future videos can help 👍👍
