I've never seen a more clear explanation and demonstration of what to do to create a draw and a fade. Choosing a higher lofted club for a draw and lower lofted club for a fade was new to me. Thank you both!
Eric once again dispensing practical wisdom. Absolute wizard Follow-up: I tried the fade technique on my drives and hit the fairway a LOT more often. Just need to work on power. Fantastic lesson
Playa in cheif! We crushed 90 today!! 86 with a 41 on the front 9! 2 birds and 11 fairways!! No 3 putts and my best 18 hole score yet! Stress free 😄 and the 6 holes were in the pouring rain! Wadda life!
Wow! Complete amatuer here, but this video explains so much more about ball address than I've ever heard. This will help me be much more intentional about addressing the ball and hopefully become much more consistent! Thank You!
Wow, thank you very much, i went to the range today after watching this video last night and I did it, i finally did it, i hit a draw on command, i hit a fade on command, needs practice to zero in, but this is going to be a game changer for my round
This is the simplest explanation I've seen on fades and draws yet. Thanks for the simplicity of it. The "most people always try to hit it straight" phrase sums it up nicely. Gotta try this next time out on the range. At least I have something to work on. Cheers mate.
@DrRumsmuggler Definitely, I think with a little (check, a lot of) practice I can work in a shape. This video definitely is on the list of most useful videos.
Thank you for this video.just tried it out at the range and for the first time in over 50 years i could shape the ball flight. they didn't all go as planned but still couldn't stop grinning, i felt like a proper golfer :)
Hmm. Anytime I see a coach of any kind giving instruction, I always wish they could give 3 demonstration shots of their own FIRST. I'm certain it would make the lessons go by quicker if they gave you the real-world visual. Great channel Matt. You're a machine! Great job.
Loved it when you said, "On top of all of that, you've gotta think in your head 'I'm gonna draw this' " Positive mentality plays a huge part in all of this; low self-believe will kill your skill development. Great job here.
Love the video. Very informative for those of use who slice or hook the ball as well. Just wondering what sort of distance you would expect to get from the 2 different clubs.
This Best lesson I’ve ever had. Been playing since 2005. Shot 79 using this. Missed some putts and I couldn’t pull off this draw move with my driver and 3wood. Thank you.
Draw move will be insanely difficult with lower loft. I suggest draw move with the 6 iron as the lowest possible loft. Fade move works more and more with lower loft - anything from driver to 6 iron will move a lot. Shorter irons don't fade as much as they can draw. Drawing entails delofting so if you try with 10 degree driver, it will deloft the driver to negative degrees, probably top it or wormburner
@@GolfSidekick I believe you. Crazy thing I can draw the 6 and 5. But the 5 and 4 definitely produce worm burners. I’m gonna try to hit fades with the 4, 3 wood and driver tomorrow. Thanks.
This video helped me to understand why i was hitting pull hooks or draws that went to another solar system! i must and rewinded this video numerous times! i know it wasn’t rocket surgery but a simple change in feet alignment has got me loving this god awful game again! 😂😂😂😂😂😂 I’m the PLAYAH i was meant to be!
The way my brain works and I can hit a draw/hook at will. I have to be aiming like said in this video, but my club face will also be square to the closed path and then I swing on that path (which will be inside) and I automatically without thinking close the club face at impact. I actually can hook it too much. Also a strong grip helps. The table tennis analogy is great too. I play(ed) a lot of table tennis in the past. EDIT: Ohhh, the fade I struggle with and the grip change might be the reason with the trail hand. NICE!!
I have always though of these shots as tennis moves. A draw is a forehand, and a fade is a cut shot... admittedly this makes me fight my hands a bit in the swing, but I find it easier to scale back from too much draw/fade than to initially learn how to do it.
Thank you for uploading this Matt and Eric explains it in such a concise way that's easy to absorb, exactly what I'd been looking for. I naturally hit draws with my irons but I recently started experimenting with trying to hit fades as well which unfortunately turned out to be a few too many slices - watching this video has helped me discover that the problem was with both my swing path and right hand grip. Love the content you upload, please keep the good stuff coming :)
Hi, I'm new to golf and would like to ask about the shots being demonstrated, when you want hit a draw and fade shot on course, is that the alignment (stance) that we have to use as well? Great video explanation and greatly appreciate your input on this. Thanks
This makes so much sense. Why oh why have I been fighting my natural ball flight (draw) in an effort to hit straight all these decades? I'm going to work with this for sure.
@@GolfSidekick In my twenties, I golfed every day after work, sometimes instead of work haha. Over the past decade, I have golfed less and less though, got my hands in too many things, fishing, bought a cattle farm, and a demanding 9-5. I did recently buy a brand new set of clubs, got fitted and everything. I have the itch! I'm 50 now and still have a 300+ drive, but I can't putt for shit.
Nice video! Fades and draws are very underrated, I don't really see too much people practicing them, only the best ones got both of those shots in their bag
Great instructions! Question on stance/setup. How much should gap should there be between front to rear foot? I saw instructor just walked up and appears to be at least 1+ ft gap. But in the fade, the feet gap was not as far.
Every time I go to the range, I purposely try to turn some each way. I think everyone should try this while practicing. That way you always know where center, or straight is. Most would be better off shaping most shots one way or another depending on the natural tendencies. The straight shot is the hardest. Be the cool golfer that can shape shots toward tough pins..
One of the things I've learned is to watch the shoulders. A fade will tend to have the lead shoulder higher. A draw will tend to have the follow shoulder higher.
Great video, i have a question regarding gripping the club. Do we set the clubface angle, and then grip the club normally? Or do we grip it, and rotate hands to get the clubface angle and keep on holding it? Haha maybe a dumb question, but i would think we would regrip the club after setting up right?😅
The draw is my hardest shot. It usually looks like a pull rather than a sling. Fade is my bread and butter. But I would donate a kidney for a practice ground like that. Eric is the man, I will be working on this.
@@norcalchrismeister I'll tell you what I do. Tee up on the right and aim towards the left hand 150 marker in the rough. Move the ball back about 1 inch in the stance, then I weaken that left hand so the thumb is almost on top of the shaft. Then hit hard and it will turn. Range balls aren't the best things to practice with. Try it on the course with some rubbish you found in the rough then if all you get is a straight shot into the jungle on the left no harm done.
I could have used this a couple days ago. I was behind a tree on a few holes. I tried to do a cut shot on one of the holes but didn't have the mechanics right and ended up catching a branch of the tree.
@tommypearson5008 Yeah hit the tree, ball bounced further back than I started, but it at least bounced into the clear and I was able to salvage a bogie. Not exactly the way I saw it in my head
I've never seen a more clear explanation and demonstration of what to do to create a draw and a fade. Choosing a higher lofted club for a draw and lower lofted club for a fade was new to me. Thank you both!
Me too. I just thought it would be the same for every club!!
Cannot wait to try all of this out. Easily the best explained fade/draw video I’ve seen.
This is ONE HELL of a great lesson! I biggest trouble I have is minding the clubface; you've got to pay attention to it, every single time.
Agreed. Whenever I try to hit that exaggerated draw I have a really hard time keeping the face from opening and hitting it a mile right.
Have to pay attention to shoulder alignment too. Great video.
Great video!
The range looks amazing. I’ve never seen one so pristine.
Exactly. Makes me question the trash in my city.
Eric once again dispensing practical wisdom. Absolute wizard
Follow-up: I tried the fade technique on my drives and hit the fairway a LOT more often. Just need to work on power. Fantastic lesson
Fades are going to not travel as far and stop shorter. Draws should roll out much further since there is more top spin in the ball.
This has been a game changer for me. Wow! The game was already fun but its on a whole new level now.
Always a pleasure having coach in the videos. The Don Juan, the bees knees!

Yes Yes Yes Yes!!!!!! I teach this constantly, simply the easiest way to shape a golf shot. Physics at work, without science in mind. Awesome Content!

Clear and simple explanation and not necessary to change the natural swing, ie in-out or out-in swings not necessary!
after watching several youtube videos on this subject and not getting it, this was a perfect instructional video for me. I now get it! Thanks

Eric is a golf god, will be trying this at the range
When I was younger, I would do 1/3 cuts, 1/3 draws, and then the last 1/3 straight at the range. That last 1/3 was so easy to hit straight.
What do you do now that you are older
