The Revolution played benefits together before he died. I was in Minneapolis in March of 2013 when they played First Avenue, so any talk that they weren't active before Prince's passing is plain false.

Sounds to me like a case of sour grapes from Jill Jones. She would have jumped on it as well had she had been invited. People grieve in different ways, and I think the Revolution playing again truly helped the fans. Different people like different kinds of music and that’s ok. All of Prince’s protégées were chosen for a reason. They should respect each other for the roles they played in Prince’s legacy and not throw shade. All of them lost something when Prince passed. Peace 🕊💜

There’s probably a little bit of truth in what everyone is saying. Jill, Lisa, Wendy, etc. all likely have their version and their side and none of them are likely 100% correct. We’re talking about stuff that happened 35 years ago (the making of Purple Rain) so I can’t imagine that everyone’s memories are clear as day. I love the Revolution as a backing band because they were backing Prince when I first got into him in ‘83. They were all over the music videos and the film that I hold in such high reverence so they’ll get a pass from me.

    • @jeffgantt4323
      @jeffgantt4323 4 роки тому +4

I know senior citizens who are 80+ who have crystal clear memories. Yes, details become hazy or mixed up over the years but some things still present themselves clearly and in the forefront of a collective or singular memory. None of us were there so we'll never know the truth. The Revolution was a cohesive band for a significant and crucial chunk of Prince's musical development. They can do whatever they want, however they want and they did. Sheila invited several other musicians. Jill Jones is free to honor and memorialize Prince any way 'she' feels is appropriate. How about you just go about your life and do you instead of slinging mud from 35 years ago? Maybe she does have valid criticisms but those are overshadowed by they tone in which they are delivered. "Exposing" the hypocrisy of The Revolution is a double edged sword: in throwing that mud, Jones has to get herself in it in order to serve the volleys that she is. Food for thought.

  • @mmb9391

I think you are selling the Revolution short. Of course they didn't invite anyone else to play with them, they specifically said they were only playing songs that they specifically were involved with. Its not like they were playing Gett Off or Let It Go or other songs that Prince did with The New Power Generation. The Revolution stuck with only the songs that they were involved in!
I think you are being suspicious of The Revolution for no good reason. And how is The Revolution 'all of a sudden' going on tour suspicious? Lol! Dosent that make sense??? They said in numerous interviews we are doing it for us to deal with Princes passing and for the fans. They never had a hidden agenda. Then to top it off you say The Revolution were never really your favorite band. I think maybe The Revolution are being judged to quickly by Jill Jones and others.
Bottom line is no one really knows the truth, only the ones involved. We can only guess.

Prince's Friend you're welcome. Hope I didn't come across as harsh sounding. Not my intention at all. But I just wanted the Revolution to get credit were credit is due. They all come from some type of musical background, so its not like they banged on a triangle when prince pointed at them Lol or just stood there lip synching looking pretty like the girls in the Robert Palmer videos LOL They did contribute on some level. But its like one of the comments on here stated, 'it was so many years ago, I doubt their memory is crystal clear about everything.'

If there's anything you can take with you home from a concert with The Revolution, it's that it honest and mindboggingly funky.
They stay entirely focused on the songs they performed during their time as Prince's band. No, they didn't stray into any kind of all-time hit-parade.
They do it with a mindset that I find legit. And the band I saw on stage were certainly not a Milli Vanilli act.
What would you rather listen to? A tribute band consisting of random people or the musicians that were actually performing those songs during the original tours?
If we would demand from any of these bands, artists... permanent or reunited constellations of people who played with Prince during any part of his career - where I'll include fDeluxe; NPG; Nik West, Paul Peterson, The Original 7ven, Sheila E, Ida Nielsen and numerous others - to deliver a rational for them to come on stage and perform Prince songs, I think we would be discrediting the memory of Prince and his music.
The Revolution paid honor to the legacy of Prince. Yes, they got paid for doing so. And yes, I'll gladly pay to see them again and again.

Wow where do you start on this phew!!! First we know that Prince did everything and he brought in the best musicians to be in his band to play it all but there is no doubt that Wendy and lisa had a big influence on him and did help create some of the music so did DR fink. Also when it comes to their motives i think they really did want to celebrate Prince after he passed you could call all that's happened since his death a cash grab. From opening up paisley park as a museam to holding celebrations now each April to the release of purple rain deluxe and the my name is prince exhibition which now seems to be going on tour and the npg gigs it could all be considered one big cash grab really so everyone's guilty there. The reveloution are also very underatted as a band and I've heard some incredible live stuff including some mind blowing soundchecks that band could play!!! I understand what jill is saying but i do think that they had a much larger input than she is saying. Yes Prince is the puppet master over everything he did and created but he also did welcome idea's and involve the band's he worked with.

Im really sad that this guy thinks the tribute concerts are a cash grab, so many of us are here to celebrate Prince, his life, music and our memories. I was happy to see the Revolution and Sheila E celebrate him with ALL of their heart with music and these events. It's pathetic that one bitter bimbo like Jill Jones is out to sour things because she wasn't invited? Shit, no wonder she is NEVER invited, with people like her....who needs enemies!!!! The ticket cost is basically to pay for the venue itself, these places aren't cheap or free. Its ironic that someone call them a "cash grab" and then get financial support from Patreon, gimme a break!

Gus Sandoval REALLY, WAS IT PRINCE THAT SAID THAT, OR WAS IT WENDY AND LISA???😕 BECAUSE WENDY AND LISA ALSO SAID THAT THEY INTRODUCE PRINCE TO THE MUSIC OF" THE BEATLES" , AND ALAN LEEDS ONCE SAID THAT HE INTRODUCE PRINCE TO JAZZ MUSIC. PRINCE DIDN'T LIVE ON THE MOON!!!!
HE WAS BORN AND RAISE IN MINNEAPOLIS!!!! MINNEAPOLIS AT THE TIME PRINCE WAS GROWING UP WAS ONE OF THE WHITEST STATES IN THE COUNTRY. I'M SURE THAT HE HEARD A LOT OF BEATLES AND JONI MITCHELL MUSIC GROWING UP THERE.
AS A MATTER OF FACT PRINCE SAID THAT WHILE HE WAS TOURING HE WAS IN HIS MOTEL ROOM LISTENING TO A JOHN LENNON SONG ON THE RADIO AND THAT, THAT SONG WAS THE INSPIRATION FOR THE SONG "WHEN YOU WERE MINE". THAT SONG WAS WRITTEN MOST LIKELY IN LATE 1979 OR EARLY 1980, AND PUT ON THE " DIRTY MIND" ALBUM.
AS FOR ALLEN LEEDS GIVING HIMSELF CREDIT FOR INFLUENCEING PRINCE WHEN IT CAME TO JAZZ, I THINK PRINCE WAS INFLUENCE IN JAZZ LONG BEFORE HE EVER MET ALLEN, SEEING THAT HIS FATHER WAS A JAZZ MUSICIAN AND PRINCE'S MOTHER WAS A JAZZ SINGER. NOT TO MENTION THAT PRINCE HIMSELF WAS NAMED AFTER HIS FATHER'S JAZZ BAND, " THE PRINCE ROGERS BAND".
I DON'T MEAN TO COME ACROSS ANGRY IN THIS MASSAGE. BUT THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR DECADES. PEOPLE CHIPPING AWAY AT PRINCE'S ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND LEGACY. AS IF HE NEEDED THEM TO GUIDE HIM IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION, WHEN IT WAS THE OTHER WAY AROUND. HAVING WORKED IN THIS INDUSTRY IT'S NOT SURPRISING TO SEE OTHER PEOPLE RIDING ON SOMEONE ELSE'S COATTAILS, IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME.
I THINK PRINCE FINALLY GOT FED UP WITH IT AND THAT'S WHY HE DECIDED TO WRITE HIS OWN BOOK. AND THAT'S WHY HE MAKE THE STATEMENT " I WAS IN THAT STUDIO TOO". HE WAS GOING TO SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT, ONCE AND FOR ALL!!!! I BET THERE ARE SOME PEOPLE WHO ARE HAPPY THAT HE DIDN'T GET TO FINISH THAT BOOK.

Yes and also as a musician, wendy does certain voicings of chord very different from princes voicings. Listen to wendy play purple rain with the revolution, she plays open chords, prince plays traditional which is a nice contrast. Wendy plays sometimes it snows in april with joni mitchell voicings prince plays a strait acoustic chords, same for rasberry beret and tons of other songs. When other musicians play purple rain like the npg they don't use wendys voicings giving it more of a straight forward vibe which still works but lacks the otherness. All you have to do is: look up Prince "reflection" w Wendy on youtube, focus on her acoustic guitar playing, prince is more bluesy, she is more open with opposite voicings more akin to 60s folk,, she also manages to play the bass line while she plays acoustic. Prince is playing more traditional bluesy. As a musician, I love the contrast. Prince has played with other talented musicians but they tend to play more bluesy like him, which takes away the dream factor.

Gus Sandoval I'm sorry but did you delete your earlier comment about Wendy and Lisa claiming that Prince didn't know Joni Mitchell music until they introduced him to it??? Can you tell me which magazine that was in? And as for Wendy guitar playing, I know she can play I just don't think it's anything special. Dazz Dickerson was a far Superior guitar player. I do remember Prince loving the way Lisa played the keyboards.

    • @zonasound
      @zonasound 6 років тому +4

I accidentally deleted it. I didn't say prince didn't know Joni mitchell but Wendy uses a lot of Joni mitchell tunings voicings making her very special. She exposed prince to these tunings as said by Dr. Fink interview. Part of what makes Wendy special is her limitations. She isn't Dez or Levi technically but she does some very unique original things with her guitar including the way she played funk in that she doesn't play A typical funk the way other prince guitars played. She brings another color. If you doubt her talent, listen to her excellent guitar playing on Seals Kiss from a rose which also has lisa on keys or KD Lang. While Dez Dickerson is amazing in his own right, Dez Levi nor any other guitarist has done some of the understated things that wendy did. I won't try to convince you otherwise. Wendy is not the greatest guitarist technically. Just like Sade isn't Whitney Houston. I'd rather listen to Sade. Wendy is more like Sade to me.

Since this video is over 2 yrs old, I was hesitant to post anything, but I’ll say this: The Revolution is THE ONLY Prince-related band I would ever have ANY intention of seeing live-and I have. TWICE! I’ve met Sheila E in person, took pics with her and she signed her bio for me-very nice & personable, but to me, The Revolution are the originals. I’ve had the joy of seeing Prince at least 4 times live-I was too young to see him with The Revolution. The bands, the music, the dancers-all fantastic stuff, but bringing in the new year with His band was awesome and we, indeed, partied like it was 1999!

    1. The uncalled for hatred against certain people and the level of gossip among 'Prince' fans is embarrassing. We as a whole look very childish and bat crazy at times to people outside of the 'Prince' world right now.
    2. If the Revolution were so disliked by Jill Jones, then why in the hell is she upset that she isn't performing with them? I don't even need to go any further with it, because that right there is the 2nd seed behind her intentions with this. The 1st seed is 25+yrs of anger resentment and unresolved conflict between her and Prince, and for her at that moment, along with his family, they are the closest thing to lash out at.
    3. For all those that don't know, Prince continued to be friends with all of the Revolution members until his death. Sadly the last time he dealt with Jill was in 1990, and then he contacted her along with many others after Vanity/Denise Matthews passed away. Prince was talking with and hanging out with Bobby Z and his family and Bobby Z was at Paisley Park regularly. You can google images of Bobby Z hanging out with some NPG members and Bobby Z played drums with Prince on Purple Rain for a few shows in 2012/2013. Wendy & Lisa did work on his Planet Earth album and did shows with Prince from 2005-2007 to name a few Tavis Smiley show, 2006 Brit Award show, Minneapolis 2007 Macy's Target and First Avenue, Brown Mark was jamming with Prince and another bass player at Paisley Park the year before the Piano Microphone shows.
Prince would not have a problem with the Revolution doing shows, because he gave the blessing back in 2012. Look it up. The Revolution(w/Dez and Eric Leeds) performed for a few nights at First Avenue. And they were going to do it every year -My Purple Heart. The next year Wendy & Lisa had to do score work for a movie series and so the next group in 2013 was Bobby Z Dr Fink Andre Cymone and Dez. Cat was going to be at a show, Appolonia was at a show etc
prior to that the Revolution did some shows in 2003-04 that also had Mazarati and the reunited Family. So Prince would not have shut anything down and did not have a problem with it.
    4. For those co-signing Jill Jones, she also used to assault Prince on her FB page prior to his death and when Sinead OConnor came out of the cave and social media attacked Prince about being an abuser, Jill Jones, yes JJ cosigned her rant, comparing Prince to Chris Brown.
    5. The Revolution members including Andre & Dez contributed to the music in many ways. Not only did they sing and play instruments on songs, but anyone who really understands the studio sessions Prince had with his band and the Time understand that a lot of the songs came out of extended day/hour jam sessions and experimentations. The Revolution and the Time members confirm this. And that it wasn't uncommon for Prince to take some stuff done during the sessions that he liked and play the same instrument on top of it. Even Jessie Johnson is vocally on 1999 and plays some guitar at the end. That is when you see the credit as only JJ which could be Jesse Johnson or Jill Jones because they both are on the song. Prince was having fun with the credits there.
    6. Jill Jones Milli Vanilli comment first of all was extremely insensitive for someone who pushes herself as some mystic FB guru, because anyone who understands the Milli Vanilli story will understand that they were duped and mislead into that happening to them. They were supposed to take up the vocals near the beginning of it all, but were lied to. So much so the embarrassment of it cased Rob to commit suicide, and for this to be some slam term for Jill is sad. Her calling the Revolution a Milli Vanilli band is stupid. They were singing and performing live 100%. The band is on Let's Go Crazy, Take Me With U, Computer Blue, Purple Rain, IWD4U and Baby I'm a Star. And it is like that on ATWIAD and Parade. There is always the songs that Prince does alone, the songs that Prince might have 1-3 other musicians on and then full band compositions. His band members were contributing as early as Dirty Mind 1980. Yes that is Dr Fink on synth and solo on the title track and Head, and yes Lisa Coleman is there too. His band at the time did work on the Time first album. Prince fleshed out a lot of the music with his band before giving to Sheila E as well. And the Revolution and the Family perform on a song on her album. Her milli vanilli comment would be directed at Sheila E's band and the Time and Vanity 6 as well. They all believed in Prince's music and vision with is why 1978-1988 was the grand golden period point blank.
    7. Jill I appreciated too, but her taking the low road is embarrassing and she needs to finally come to resolve about how things went bad between her and Prince because that is where the anger is coming from.

I like the Revolution but I see what Jill was saying. As to the stories being told about how songs came to be, from what I’ve seen and read Prince welcomed them playing it loose with the truth and often encouraged his artists to take credit for stuff he did or gave to them. I think he really liked the idea that everyone believe that he only worked with the greatest musical geniuses, instead of the truth which was Prince was the genius who elevated a bunch of already great musicians. I mean the guy created groups just to have someone else put out the songs he already wrote, sang, produced and played because they didn’t fit the brand he had established for himself lol.

Really enjoyed this video. I'm a huge fan of Wendy & Lisa's post-Prince work, even more than what they did with Prince. All their albums are fire and Girl Bros. is one of the most flawless albums I've ever heard. When The Revolution toured, I went to one of the shows in 2017 and screamed myself hoarse. However, for a band that only spanned three albums (proper, as in "Prince & the Revolution") I'm astounded by how overinflated their influence--Wendy's, Susannah's, and Lisa's specifically--continues to be. No doubt they strongly influenced each other but Prince was also influenced by: Andre Cymone and the music Andre's older siblings (especially Eddie) were listening to when Prince lived with them; his girlfriends in North and South Minneapolis (well documented in his memoir); The Time; Sonny Thompson; Detroit; Oakland; Patrice Rushen; Sheila E.; and Jill Jones (and certainly their shared love of Kate Bush and the Cocteau Twins) who also has a Motown legacy. And why aren't we as long-winded about Dr. Fink staying in the mix 13 years? He lasted through five iterations of Prince bands!

I'm guessing you don't mean to, but sometimes you come across as arrogant, specifically when you discuss The Revolution vs The NPG. I believe that you said you discovered Prince during your teenage years, and that either Batman or Graffiti Bridge was your 1st Prince album.
Well I discovered Prince during my teenage years also, but I'm a little bit older. 1999 was my 1st Prince album. I do love all of the Prince eras, but I have a special affection for The Revolution era because it was during my formative years, just like The NPG era was during yours.
I know you think the NPG was a better band than the Revolution, but I don't think it's that simple. I do think the NPG was more versatile and that's why Prince formed them. He could give them hand signals or vocal cues while they were performing live and the NPG could keep up. The Revolution wasn't that type of band. However, I believe that if you gave both of the bands the same song, said go learn this, and then come back and play it, the Revolution's version would be better. That's just my opinion. In a perfect world, Prince would've kept the Revolution as his recording band, and the NPG as his touring band.
I think Prince's most prolific period was from June 1984 to the end of 1985 (just referring to released material). In 1984 he released Purple Rain, a Sheila E. album, the Time album, and an Apollonia 6 album. In 1985 he released Around the World in a Day, another Sheila E. album, and the Family album. He also wrote hit songs for Sheena Easton, Andre Cymone, and The Bangles( I won't include the Chaka song even though it was a hit during this time frame because he wrote it much earlier). That's 7 albums and countless hit songs, not to mention a #1 movie, and a #1 tour all in an 18 month time span. I honestly don't think any other artist has had a more prolific year and a half. And the Revolution was there for all of it.
If you listen to Prince's early work, and then listen to Purple Rain, ATWIAD, and Parade. You can hear the difference. There's no way the Revolution, particularly Wendy and Lisa, didn't have an affect on him. You can hear it in the music. So if the Revolution ever show up in my hometown, I will go and see them. I believe they are truly trying to honor Prince the best way they know how. I don't think it's a money grab, but even if it were, good for them. They deserve it for all of the contributions they made to a legendary artist.

I can only state my opinion. I like the revolution no doubt. But prince evolved again and again and kept getting better. Most people dig the revolution because that’s when they got into him, and the world loves to just hear more of the same. Anything different is bad. I’m not that way, and I don’t think it makes me arrogant.

Prince's Friend I couldn't agree with you more. Different and varsity is something that Prince did from the beginning. Why would he stop, why should he had stop! Because some people couldn't keep up. Prince is the reason so many others in the music industry realize that they had to step it up. And that just made it better for all of us, including them. P.S. Your not arrogant because you like a lot more variety in your life then they do. Maybe you and I both just get bored easy with the same old thing. Variety is the spice of life.😉

I was there even before you, Rod Nixon Those songs resonate with parts of my life too. That doesnt mean its the best. Prince and the Revolution had a sound, an identifiable sound. Cool. They were "good". Prince's music by himself was better in.my opinion, as far as musicianship. Other than Wendy the musicians were mediocre plus one, maybe - sorry. As stand alone musicians they werent that great - my opinion.
He pushed them with PR and 1999. They had no more to give after that. One thing Bobby Z says a lot is Prince was always far ahead of them. They barely finished a project and Prince was a project or two ahead. Purple Rsin wasnt even finished and he had dyed his hair and moved on musically. He needed to change, the music needed to change
Prince needed more and he needed to keep it moving and the Revolution could not give it. My opinion.
And PF is not arrogant, he speaks his truth just like you did.

Look, Wendy and Lisa didn´t come out as lesbians until long after Prince disbanded the Revolution and they never publicly acknowledged their relationship back in those days so I don´t find it so strange that Lisa didn´t tell the story about "Wonderful Ass" until recently. And Jill Jones needs to sit down and stay down. She's just bitter because the closer Prince became to Wendy and Lisa the more she was phased out and his dating Susannah right under her nose must have sent her over the edge. She even went as far as to accuse Wendy and Lisa of "pushing out" Dez Dickerson while everyone knows int was very much his own decision to leave.

Right...Well Dez left before Purple Rain so how can they be responsible and then Wendy joined before movie came out in late 83 I believe it’s just coincidence. Dez has said multiple times in interviews that he was struggling with the over sexual tones of the music and he had become Christian around 80-81, (watching 700 club during tours)but struggled to stay in group because of his beliefs. Dez been with prince for awhile but finally he had to go his own way. Dez loved Prince no animosity has ever been said. This the first I heard.

Just to play devil's advocate: Wonderful Ass probably is about Vanity (written in 82). HOWEVER, like a lot of Prince songs, he would go back and work on them later (sometimes years later), and Wonderful Ass is one of those songs. So it's possible that Prince and Lisa were riding around talking about asses, Prince decided to pull WA out of the vault and have Lisa and Wendy do some background vocals on it (which they did in September 84, when he was dating Susannah). So for all we know maybe they never knew Prince originally wrote it in 82. Believe it or not not everyone spends their time knowing every writing/recording date of every Prince song

After reading the comments this video seems like gossip queen click bait and jill’s comment was fodder for the impetus of this mostly non-factual convo. Watch Lisa’s interview with FUNKNSTUFF (long but thorough) and you’ll see that musician songwriters like wendy and lisa opened up prince’s sound and world. He was a sponge and used their ideas like what geniuses do - in a way that changes art/music. He also partook of the women in his perimeter in ways of pleasure so there’s that. So much emotion and resentment. Think about Jill as a scorned lover. Now review. That said, I appreciate your channel and your research and updates. Very well done for the most part. And the main thing, I love EVERYONE Prince has worked with and it’s damn shame that all his Fam couldn’t play together now. I would fly anywhere to go to that concert.

Maybe it is a generational thing. I was 12 when 1999 came out and it was my first cassette tape(remember those?!). My Dad and I went to see the Purple Rain tour in Detroit. I just love that time of Prince and it is the main time frame I listen to. I'm tired debating who was better and who was not..and I'm a guitar player myself. What counts to me is the music and the Revolution could flat out play. Just listen to some of their long jams and extended play songs. Let's Go Crazy and Erotic City come to mind. We can see from his life that Prince would always change things up after a period of time no matter the success. He was never going to keep the same group, he was never going to be, for example, the Rolling Stones or Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, which fundamentally kept the same core minus a few changes over a long period of time.
If the Revolution come to Detroit or Chicago...I'm there. RIP Prince.
On a side note, all of this makes me miss R&B bands like this. Actual bands that play their own instruments and not leave it to session players.

All the time Prince wasn't on an instrument, they held it down; they brought something that appealed outside of what P. could at that time. Whose to say how they can grieve or pay homage. I'm pretty sure Prince was inspired by their artistry just the same. Besides, who can do a better tribute of the biggest point of his career(at least what the public remembers most) than the people who were there. Wendy even surpassed Brown Mark in that movie because Brown Mark was the only voice we did not hear in Purple Rain and that was very disrespectful Prince letting that happen, Brown Mark went through that horrible experience at The Rolling Stones concert not Wendy Melvoin. So it makes sense to me she will involve herself in everything with Prince because she has been allowed that opportunity without repercussions.

Hearing 'Baby, You're A Trip' on Prince's Originals album you'll find she's a FAKE! Even the part sung on Mia Bocca was exactly mimicked from Prince! Still Prince's greatness didn't rub on her, she aped!
The Revolution was REALLY the Band, their creativity shows all over their collaborations, (witness them even shining on Sign O'the Times vault tracks); they were the Family Stone to Prince's Sly! I wonder how she see the song she wrote after years of snide remarks about him? Everyone has a right to do their thing. Prince held a lot of them back from capitalizing on the they gained while with him so maybe the just feel as if it’s the time to do it. The Revolution was an important band in his history. Prince was the greatest ever AND others helped him. But he notoriously underpaid his collaborators. If his death is a chance for them to come together and celebrate their time together with him and make some money, that’s fine with me. Seems to me that after his death is the only time that makes sense for them to reform and perform together. I’ll take their version of events unless some very compelling evidence surfaces to demonstrate that they are overstating their roles during their times with Prince.

I read that the Revolution did not do that previous planned reunion album because they did not come to an agreement with Prince on money matters. I cannot fairly say that their motives for finally doing a reunion are negative. Maybe they wanted to do the reunion ASAP because they could not gauge how long the momentum would last. Maybe this is cathartic for them and the fans/friends. I don’t believe it is wrong for them to have pride in what they helped achieve. I think all of them probably sacrificed a lot as band members. Also I believe they really do love Prince and cherished their moment with him despite their differences. I don’t believe their touring will be all that lucrative without Prince and I seriously doubt anybody is going to believe the Revolution is greater than Prince even with any contributions. What I notice, however, is a subtle but tangible divisiveness in the Purple community as well as among the bands. Sometimes it feels like preferential treatment or subtle disregard or a partiality that does not seem to be in the best spirit of Prince. However, people have to recognize that we are human and ALL of us will err, but in the end realize that Prince’s message is to love one another (which requires forgiveness and understanding) and to love God.

The Revolution alone was THE best band unit that Prince ever worked with, period. They were the only musicians that could deliver and show Prince some stylistic flair towards different kinds of music. Newcomingpseudofans do not realize that Prince was standing on the shoulders of GREATS like Sly, Hendrix, Bowie, Gaye, Al Green, Beatles, Parliament-Funkadelic, Stones, Sam Cooke and Santana among thousand others; even Perrey and Kingsley are copied at the end of Delirious! The Revolution was crucial 2 make this eclectic mix WORK! Without them there won't B any Purple Rain/Around the World in a Day/Parade. They were there since Dirty Mind and R even acknowledged on the album cover of 1999, mirrored inside the football drawing! They R also the only band that Prince did recognized at the American Music Awards!
It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night was their au revoir with Prince. Since that, 👁 never saw a kick-butt band again, just a bunch of talentless wanna-B's...😔
Love to hear another monster 20 minutes plus jam like America, but it doesn't exist in any vault after the Revolution!!!

The Revolution was forced back out because they were no longer on "pay roll". Prince kept majority of people he worked with on pay roll, even when he was no longer working with him, so as soon as he was murdered, they had no choice but to make it appear like it was a 'tribute' to him. Hence, Jill saying what I said long before Jill said it. I knew, they all had to work again in some form.

This is wild! Everyone knows Prince controlled everything & created the music. I don't think that was really up for debate. To think that they were mindless & had no input on songs is bonkers. It's quite known that P held jam sessions & that songs came out of them & he either used them, gave them to someone else. Sometimes he gave them credit if it was used, sometimes not but I'm not gonna hate on the band nor the NPG, or 3rdEyeGirl for stuff like that. We know that P refused to let The Family & The Time use those names to put out new music. I'm sure The Revolution had those same restrictions. To make it sound like they were waiting for him to pass so they make loot is far fetched & mean. Is it possible: yes but probable: no. There was love there. • @Domino1972

Purple Flower, that is 100% wrong. Prince met Jill on the Fire It Up Tour but they were not working together or hanging out 'friends with benefits' until late 81 which is when then 1999 album was being recorded along with What Time Is It and Vanity 6.
Yes she was a close confidant, but even the song She's Always In My Hair she felt was disrespectful. Prince basically saying he could be a gigolo for the rest of his life and she would still be waiting there. Which is not a good thing for anyone.
Plus Revolution members like Bobby Z was working with Prince since 94East 1976 with David Z. Andre was a childhood friend, Dr Fink since 1977 Lisa Coleman since late 79 and Prince lived with Lisa & Wendy when he went to California and they stayed with him in Minneapolis.
Remember Revolution member Dr Fink was still in the band after 1986 and Prince did a remix for W&L's song Lolly Lolly on their 2nd album and had Wendy Lisa Susannah on stage with him in 1989 @ a Lovesexy Paisley Park show and Bobby Z and BrownMark were there too.
Also Jill Jones and Prince stop communicating totally after 1990. Look up on what happened during the Graffiti Bridge movie. And yes Jill Jones is lip syncing to Elisa Fiorillo on Love Machine. Prince continued to be friends with the Revolution member until his death. He only reconnected with Jill after Denise Matthews funeral.

To those of you who will Watch this video and read this post beyond this date.
To you princess friend I say you must not be a musician or else you would have had a much different opinion. Milli Vanilli DID NOT PLAY OR SING.
Although Jill Jones was is an important part of Princes entourage in the early days; it is to be noted out that beyond singing she never playing an instrument in Princes band on stage. In spite of being in the mix of that situation she's not a player so she does not understand the level of commitment and skill or talent that it takes to be that caliber of a musician...(just because you are a daycare worker; doesn't mean you understand what its like to be a parent, you cannot until you become one. It does not matter many diapers you've changed) furthermore unless Princes friend is a musician neither does he. Princes concerts were always in the neighborhood of two to three hours on any given day, after which he might play for a couple more somewhere. That means up to five hours of playing in one night. You cannot, I repeat, you can not be a fake musician and maintain that level of playing. Most professional bands of the time who have record deals and multiple albums couldn't play Princes material let alone do it the way they did!
So what they didn't write the songs they were playing. It requires a band in every sense of the word to be able to pull off what they did 2 to 3 nights a week OK!!!!
The Revolution...PLAYED...LIVE!!!! Sang background and did choreography!!!!!!!

And to be honest, most of the Revolution members were bitter with Prince (Like Tyka) till the end of his life. Wendy has most definitely taken on a dream position of leading the Revolution and becoming what can only be the closet of what Prince was as the front man of the group. It was a way to return to the spotlight by taking advantage of Prince's death. I'm sure they loved him and appreciated the time spent, but they could do more for us fans who would like more insight to those greats besides giving us a reunion concert.

    • @stoneblake7938

Eileen Yarrow I really can't disagree with anything you've said. You're absolutely right about most of the things you have stated. Yes, I'm sure they were in shock, we all were. But there is no world tour. And truth be told, getting back together and performing has to be the ultimate way of giving the fans what they want, not necessarily doing right by Prince. I have seen the Revolution twice at First Ave. since Prince pasted away. I was too young to see them when they were with Prince, so this was my lucky second chance. And I tell no lies when I say it was about seeing the Revolution outside of Purple Rain and music videos. Both of those shows was about the Revolution, not Prince. Though they mentioned him often, it was about them and the magic of Prince was absent. I still love them. I wish they would do individual biographies about their time with him, that would be refreshing and long over due. I have to strongly agree with Wonderful Ass being about Vanity, not Wendy or her sister. They have no ass!!! The Revolution is a band that couldn't make it on their own as artist, but can do fine performing music written by others. That's nothing to be ashamed of. Calling them Milli Vanilli is nasty and over exaggerated. I'm friends with Jill on Facebook and we go back and forth sometimes about everything outside of Prince, because thatsnthe way she wants it. A true Prince fan knows that the song She's Always in my Hair is about Jill. Jill knows that. She could have jumped back in the spotlight and did interviews all over television and social media, but she remained chill. Gotta respect that. And keep in mind, the songs the Revolution perform are ones created during their time with Prince, not necessarily songs the wrote with him. Computer Blue, Roadhouse Garden and their input on Purple Rain. That's it. The other famous hit songs they perform, they had no part in writing, producing or performing on the studio recording. People have the right to feel a certain way about this.

Tracey Blake. If Jill Jones told a little bit of truth or some truth, what is the left out part called? A whole lot of honesty? Why not just tell the whole truth in a better manner? It would be better appreciated and newbies like myself and other friends/fans wouldn't be so offended and we would have a better understanding about this underlying current of resentment against The Revolution. However, I get nothing but negativity out of that video which makes me VERY suspicious of Jill's own motives and I believe I know what they were but I will keep my opinions to myself. Jill should have taken her lack of unity concerns up with the Revolution band members instead of calling them out vindictively as a Millie Vanilli band publicly on UA-cam. She never had an affinity for those girls anyway so why would she care to be invited? In addition, she had some tumultuous ups and downs with Prince herself. I bought her single about Prince called I Miss You so I know she is very talented and it could really be a big hit with the right folks behind it. So do we now say Jill is online talking about the Revolution and Prince to promote her forthcoming album??? Meanwhile I heard she hadn't seen Prince in about 20 or 30 years. Would Prince want her online discussing their personal business? I don't really want answers to these questions. I am just making a point to show you the unfairness that comes with calling the Revolution out like that.

The video was taken down, but in my honest opinion (based on interviews about Prince's writing process), The Revolution has played pivotal roles in helping Prince craft those mid-80's albums? However, to call them "Milli-Vanilli"....., naaah??? In those records, you can actually tell who's playing? I personally never thought to question who was playing until I heard "The Family/ Mazerati" albums (I later found out a couple years later after those two albums came out, that it was Prince who played all the instruments on those records, except a few who contributed?). It was at that point, I myself started to question who was producing/playing those Revolution albums? It's a no-brainer that Prince was a complete mastermind musically. It can also explain why Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis left "The Time", to prove their worth (in which, in a interview some years ago, one of them did say that they left for not having "too much input??"). Personally, Prince's work (no matter who played or not) should be celebrated and respected. However, Prince did give EVERYONE writing credit and most people in the industry wouldn't have done what he did?
As much as I like Michael Jackson..., Prince really is "The King Of Pop"!
