      Dr. Fink in a separate interview said he had a different relationship with Prince. Since he directly worked with Prince and wrote songs for him, he stayed on a little longer after the Revolution (a couple more years) with his new collaborators like Sheilia E. The thing is soon after Shelia E and the new players left after only two years, he had enough and in 1990 three years after the Revolution left Prince he left as well on his own choice. He just had a different relationship than the rest of them did.

      Prince was like a changeable tempestuous child.Prob a genius but lacked respect for his musicians / friends .I'm not surprised they look pissed off !! Seems like there were loafs of personal issues so bound to break up eventually. Music a delightful but fickle thing.

    This is Prince's Family talking! They loved each other very much & you can see they still do & always will. He still worked with them & at times wanted to work with them. When I saw Wendy on PBS with him playing....the way she looked at him....she really loved him as a friend. They all went through a lot with him & each other. NPG is a Great band but, it's not the same in terms of the relationships and the fact that they were all so young then. The Revolution was not only there, they are a part of history that made Prince a STAR! He was a Genius. They always knew it. I loved Wendy's very telling comment about they often didn't know what the songs were about (including not totally Purple Rain) & they never asked him but, "HE PROBABLY WOULDN'T HAVE TOLD US EVEN IF WE DID". Now that's the Prince I'll always love!!!

      Lovely thoughts. Thank you for speaking to us. But who's idea was it to give the green light to use 'Let's Go Crazy' in a credit card commercial? Just wondering. Gotta pay for those zoot suits I suppose. (yeah, like the one some family member was strutting at the Revolution's 1st show at 1st Ave. Not showy at all there. On top of that, I can't believe some supposed true fan next to me in the audience thought it was Morris Day coming down from the balcony. No ma'am, that wasn't Morris Day. I can't believe the stuff that 'fans' get wrong.)

    It feels nice to get some insight into why The Purple One split with The Revolution. They were obviously exhausted from dealing with a mercurial boss, albums + tours + a movie, and needed a break, but were still shocked and saddened when it all ended. I must extend The Revolution my heartfelt respect for being so thoughtful, and mature enough, to simultaneously open and frank about the tough times, but still eagerly sharing with us their own appreciation and wonderment in the good times.

      It took a lot of work to not only reach that kind of success, but to do it so independent of the record business and its support. Like boiling the ocean. Clearly it would take its toll on them and they all needed a break. What they did was a fantastic thing and should always be remembered and celebrated.

      I was almost sure it was the girls, too. I remember reading about booby's "rescue mission", and I had read somewhere that Mark was having an issue with the transition from rock and pop to more R&B and funk-based music. But to hear it from the horse's mouth is a blessing. The other thing I noticed is that these are the only guys who kept it real when speaking on Prince. Most people either deify him or demonize him-- little to no middle ground, but what I got from this was, "This is the what/when/why and it's all good".

    No, _Sign "☮" the Times_ is his best work in the 80's, as far as I'm concerned. That live band during that era... my goodness. It's just the best. High energy, creativity, individuality, etcetera. There's more to their story though. I wanna know that "internal" stuff. I know my uncle and he was arrogant and often times, pigheaded. He had the right because music was seeping out through his pores and it had to be perfect... I get it.

    They left more than footprints. They became part of so many people’s lives. There are so many times I reflect back on a song or a lyric or even a mood and think to myself yeah that was from the revolution. I am lucky that I can relive all those emotions through the albums. Thanks for all the incredible music and memories.

    At the end of the day Prince wanted to move forward and felt that apart from Matt Fink, Eric Leeds and Matt Blistan, who were all members of the last line up of The Revolution, could keep up with him. Maybe he felt the others were just not good enough and lets not forget the amazing shows he would eventually put on, The Sign 'O' the Times tour and especially the Lovesexy tour. I really don't think The Revolution could have ever performed the Lovesexy show.

    • @Takama94
      @Takama94 7 років тому +14

      Perhaps, but the studio albums suffered after that point. Yes, Sign O' The Times is incredible but even that material was somewhat informed by The Revolution, it's his album all the way but they were still around, and that affected his recording environment for the better. Prince really needed the Revolution to help him translate his sound into the 1990's evolving musical landscape.

    • @Garylpool1
      @Garylpool1 7 років тому +7

      Its simple Prince felt the Revolution where holding him back, he wanted to work with musicians that were far more skilled than them. Unfortunately the Lovesexy show is the gauge you go by, the Revolution could never had performed that show which was the pinnacle of Princes live performances. Lets not forget by 1986 Prince had started recording material in the studio on his own so he wanted a more fluid back up of a band that he could bring in (as well as individually) as he needed.

    Without question I loved the Prince & The Revolution period the most. Their influence on Prince was the best. That being said, I've no idea how anyone could possibly take being in a band with Wendy Melvoin. She's a very talented musician for sure but goodness she just has to control and run everything. Ego maniac. That ego greatly overshoots it's value. She clearly still has never learned to just chill the F out and be one of the gang. She's like a damn tiger mom in every interview I've ever seen with her.
