Probably one of the best Jazz lessons i have ever stumbled upon. No babble, no bullshit, and no show off; just gets the player to the point from the very first 30 seconds. Thanks Achim
You all prolly dont give a damn but does anybody know a trick to get back into an Instagram account..? I stupidly forgot my account password. I love any tips you can offer me.
00:39 step #1 - jazz blues comping - chord shapes 3:39 step #2 - improvisation concept #1 - C minor blues scale 5:47 step #2 - improvisation example 2.1 - played with jam track 6:51 step #2 - improvisation example 2.1 - with jazz phrasing 7:54 step #3 - improvisation concept #2 - C and F dorian scale 10:13 step #3 - improvisation example 3.1 - played with jam track 11:20 step #3 - improvisation example 3.1 - with jazz phrasing 12:25 step #4 - tying it all together - improvisation concepts #1 + #2
Hi everybody, thanks for watching my C Minor Jazz Blues Lesson. If you want to support my channel, you can always buy the additional tabs and backing tracks for this lesson. Thanks for that, happy new year 2021!
You just know that as a BB King Lover, I had to buy this lesson. It goes well with Minor Traditional Blues songs as well as the great Jazz Blues songs that are out there. Thanks, Achim.
Very good beginners lesson by Achim Kohl. Progressive yet easy. Realy puts a new guitarist on the right track without much fuss and zero talking. I love it.100%.
Mr.Kohl is the best teacher of jazz tunes I have listen to & learn. His approach to teaching is exactly what a student of jazz yearn for. In his words "By applying the typical jazz phrasing", he shows how to be creative in using his melodic groove. Thanks. SL
I still miss your original "Autumn Leaves" which I listen to so often & tried to learn that tune. Sorry to see you deleting such a masterpiece. Your lesson of this tune is too long, too professional for a student & too difficult. Its meant for the professional & NOT the student. I hope you realize this teaching method. Teach us, the public, your 1st version of the tune. To learn it & play it for the public would be more acceptable for an average citizen. Too many notes in a tune is fine in jazz jam but NOT for the public. I as a filmmaker know the audience reaction in variety of listening environment. I would buy the 1st version but NOT the super long lesson. SL
I don't speak English, but I subscribe ... the best lesson I've ever seen ... straight, to the point, without so much blah blah blah. Greetings from El Salvador
I wasted hours of time (and money) on lessons in my twenties and thirties failing to learn what you have taught on this video in 14 minutes. This is simply the best jazz guitar lesson ever. My love for playing guitar has been re-ignited!
Hi David, it's for all of you guys, who are lost in the jungle of jazz improvisation, that's why I make lessons here on UA-cam. All the best for your playing, best regards from Germany
Consulted my copy of Andy Jones' book FastFoward: Jazz Guitar Improvisation whilst watching this when Achim demonstrates the more authentic sounding Jazz scales to play over each chord and they both show the same scales for the same chords! Cm7 = C Dorian and so on. Talk about music being a universal language....! Great tutorial, Mr Kohl, thank you.
Teaching is a skill. Playing music is a craft. Very rarely you find professionals who can do both. Most You Tube teachers are 'showing ' THAT THEY CAN PLAY instead of teaching. Most do it so fast they expect EVERYONE to just catch their fast bus!!!. Apart from tryin to advertise their stuff. This guy is brilliant & unique - no wonder over 500 comments and all positively talking of how he lets the skill & knowhow Speak. No bla bla. Keep it up Kohl!!! You make our work as musicians proud!!!
Two years ago I’d be staring at that beautiful guitar horrified. Now, with hard work it finally all fits together. Thank you very much. Modes still to be mastered. But this way of explaining, without talk is simple and effective, which is actually the way to go. Not only regarding the solo but playing the chord on a particular beat...
Great lesson, Achim! Nice way to get a jazzy sound with the chord tones on the IV and turnarounds and get free of the minor pentatonic. A real breakthrough. Thanks for posting.
Thank you Achim, a little over 50 years ago, used to listen to local jazz and blues guys, all accomplished, in their 60s and 70s, from the era, that's how I learned, from their inspiration. the guitar is so expressive, for me, more so than words, math, true feel, hard to explain to others, I used to play practice as if my guitar were another instrument. Almost forgot to learn what I don't know from the beginning, thank you Sir, high Regards!
Great lesson! I've tried to get into Jazz guitar twice in my 30+ years of playing and always lost interest. This is so logical and straight to the point. The steps are intuitive and easy to understand. Thanks Achim - I'll check out your other vids!
Having been playing guitar for 20+ years and only delving into jazz study for the past year or 2, I greatly appreciate your approach to (and presentation of) the material. I'm very excited to check out your website and all your videos.
lovely, fabulous. many thanks for the conservation of both 'commentary' & note playing, Achim... once again, proof that 'less is (more oft than not) MORE'!
I'm very proud of this jazz man, not talking but showing you how? Others showing too much of their faces and then share little lesson at the end of the video. Funny! They loved their faces too much ha ha ha! Thank you sir for your excellent guitar jazz lessons. You are one in a million guitar teacher.
Lieber Achim.Ich wusste nicht, dass du deutscher bist!Deutsche beeindrucken mich sehr.Der Grund, warum ich Deutsch Lerne.Danke, dass du uns deine jazz-Fähigkeiten teilst .Sie helfen mir sehr!
Taking precious time to teach others how to play, that has no price,.some teachers charge an arm & a leg, sometimes ears & two eyes as well, leave by yourself playing with their cat or dog or woman upstairs on your 50.00 dollars /hr ,thanks again you're a very good person.
Finally I found someone that really just shows me what to do..No babbling for the first 10 minutes or telling me what finger goes to what fret or string on the scale..this lesson would be 10 hours long if it was the heavy talkers and not showers did this lesson..tytytyty…def subscribe
Great video. Easy to follow, very enjoyable. First time I enjoy so much watching...just to the point, no waste of time and energy. Thank you so much. Always desired to play some jazz thinking it was way too much for me to do. God bless you.
My younger Brother is very humble, And, would never accept me doing anything at all on his behalf, I truly understand his feelings, May I send you something, if only to express my pride in him, something you might find irregardless in the Blues Genre , He still performs, but has always put his Family first, His stuff has been accessible for many years, online, from his past, he always puts his Family first. Our older brother, and Father, Think he was born in 1935, inspired us all, Robert, I understand how unusual this sounds, just for your ears Achim.
this is by far the most accurate, detailed informative lesson in youtube.less talk more skill. btw, those dislikes are from youtube teacher wannabe that advertise their bullshit tutorial website.
This lesson just popped back up after over a year and I decided to revisit. There are several conceptual approaches here that can be applied to any progression and related scales. I didn't think this thru the first time around. Great lesson (again), Thank You...!
Honestly I'm a poor guitar player... But when i found these 'bout eazy jazz to play And i found it, this is my first step to proceed in playing guitar in my whole life
Superb presentation . . . clean, to the point . . . love it. I bought your complete lesson on strength of this video. Great value for money. Many thanks.

No talk, full of information, perfect demonstration, good and brief explanation. Great teaching. Thank you a lot!
Well thought out, paced appropriately, and your fingers and the notations do all the talking. Superb.
