  • CRAZY FAST RC CARS are hard to get right. I am trying my hand at GT12 again and the Atom 3. Finally I am making progress. Thank you to David for your help and guidance with the setup of the car. I think now it is starting to get to the point where I need to learn to do it for myself rather than relying on others.
Join us on our GT12 journey.
The Atom 3 boasts lots of new parts
    • ‘S2’ Version (#K207) All of the fibre components included are made from our own ‘S2’ Material, including the chassis itself.
    • NEW - S2 chassis included in the kit, with increased flexibility, lower centre of gravity and lower cost than the ‘CF’ chassis.
    • NEW - Gear Differential offering improved cornering ability in the majority of conditions. On power steering is improved as well as corner entry stability. The car will also drive much flatter and have more predictability in high traction conditions. The ball differential can still be used and is likely to be an improvement only in very low traction conditions. For ultra high grip tracks a spool option is also available.
    • NEW - Top Decks include multiple flexibility settings to further fine tune the flex to gain even more performance.
    • NEW - Fully updated front end design with much easier build, far simpler castor adjustment, improved drivability and overall performance. Maintenance is also reduced.
    • NEW - Front beam improving front end flex characteristics.
    • NEW - Front beam socket using O-ring fixing system.
    • NEW - Moulded ultra-lightweight hub carrier with improved suspension and damping. More robust design.
    • NEW - Longer lasting front damping with all new king pin.
    • NEW - Big Bore side and centre damper, offering improved damping. They also give greater damper oil retention (less frequent maintenance required).
    • NEW - Stronger pod base helping to remove any twist in the rear pod.
    • NEW - Tweak free and easy LiPo mounting using new lightweight O-ring fixing.
    • NEW - Interchangeable front LiPo position stops with 4 spaced settings included.
    • NEW - Simplified lightweight servo fitment, fits directly onto slotted chassis holes.
    • NEW - Independent, lightweight front bumper mount. Easier front end assembly.
    • NEW - Optional brass weights in 5g or 7.5g can be fitted in multiple locations, to achieve the perfect car weight in this controlled weight class. Electronics can be removed by simply unscrewing the weights from underneath.
    • NEW - Optional 1.5° camber strap, for when increased steering or agility is required. 1.0° camber is included in the kit.
    • NEW Speed Secret 64 tooth 48dp Machined Spur Gear option.
    • NEW - Range of optional colour coded front springs available.

When I did f1 and pro ten I used to have 4 sets of tyres for the day and swap them between races. This means you don’t have to worry too much about gearing and ride hight changing between runs. It also means you can have the additive soak in longer maybe even over night.
Biggest tip I have is to massage the additive into the tyres with an old towel. It doesn’t add that much more grip but I found that the grip lasted longer. So you get get good grip at the end of the run.

Nice to see GT12 getting some attention, really enjoyed the class when clubs around me used to run them. You will need to get yourself a Tyre Truer next!

I love the racing content. I want to race RC cars. I even went as far as to build a VTA car. However, it is basically a parking lot ripper because there is no racing in my area. 😢

Vernier calipers are a must even as a basher I have them just to get all the links right, measure screws and even doing my carb and trim settings for my nitro buggy.

I had the original Supastox and it was really good at my local track. Went to another club and I was so slow till i changed the gearing and then it was like it was a different car. Went to 2 more clubs and aside from some radio issues, was a mobile road block. Changed my electrics, bought the Atom 1 when it was new, but at another local club for me, I was middling. Still dunno how to work gear ratios after nearly 30 years of racing, that's what I need to figure out, and then remember 😆

thought for a while if i should go back to touring cars from buggy but TC cost like 4x and is fiddley and need alot like setup stations and an way much other stuff, so im sticking with byggy that also is more fun with the jumps.

@@PopalongRC i think off road is way more easy in that i could set up my car only by a simple ride hight gauge a caliper and eyeball camber from a 90 degree measurement and it dont do much if im 0.1 degre off or half a turn wong on a shock but TC that is another thing that the car need complete tweek if it hit a track marker or banging in to another car and what does a complete hudy setup station cost compared to a non digital caliper and a rideheight gauge?

Definitely need 12k and 50k oils, those are what I'd call "base setup" oils for the car, most start with 12 in the sides and front kingpins, and 50 in the center damper. Seems like you're missing the rear pod brace too that goes above the axle, that definitely won't help!
