I'm picking one of these Smith & Wesson M&P 15 rifles tomorrow and seeing as I've only fired their 15-22, I wanted some info. Through that, found your video and wow was I lucky. You're extremely well educated on it and spoke slow enough that I never felt "left behind", thanks for a great video and count me in as a subscriber.
I picked one up a long time ago. Finally got it out to the range yesterday. Came with a cheapo Crimson Trace red dot. I can't believe how well it all came right out the box. Didn't clean anything. Very few slight adjustments to the elevation of the red dot. I mean this was basically gnats ass spot on right out of the box. Smooth to fire. Zero jams. Magazines slide in smooth. Feels great to hold. My wife who has never very experienced with firearms yet was able to hold a couple pretty nice groupings while standing and holding this. Once she got into a more comfortable and stable position. She was hitting really tight groupings. If you haven't bought one yet, why not?!?!
I had that same model. First thing I did was swap out that CT for a holosun. Now it's got a quad rail, Raidian Raptor charging handle, forward grip, light and sling.
People are asking for the upgrades on this rifle. There isn't to many but here you go: I like to switch out the buffer spring to a Damage Industries spring (about $5-$10 depending on sales). I also always add a Spikes T2 tungsten powder buffer. There's a holosun red dot and 3x magnifier. Magpul butt stock, Hogue grip, and a Radian Arms Raptor charging handle. I think that covers it all.
Thanks dude! This information really helps. I just picked up my Smith & Wesson M&P 15 Sport II while picking up my PDP Full 4.5” from the Gun Shop. I couldn’t pass up a great deal. Now, I need to make some upgrades to make her truly mine. 😊
I do believe you just sold me. I've been looking at a few different rifles, mainly Diamondback DB15YB and another variant, as well as the Del-Ton 316L. I know nothing of either of those brands and this looks so clean and sturdy. I appreciate the review!
Picked one up Yesterday. Pre-owned BUT UNFIRED with the MOE handguard, M&P vertical grip with integrated light, 3 Pmags and M&P soft range bag for $650 cash out the door. Story I got was that the customer who won it in a raffle only accepted it and did the paperwork for it instead of opting for a gift card of identical value because he wanted something new to shoot while he waited for his Springfield Saint that he ordered to arrive. His rifle arrived the next day and he brought the M&P back in UNFIRED to sell and put towards the price of the Saint. No brass wash on the bolt face or in the chamber, no wear on the FCG or the face of the buffer. It's squeaky clean with the exception of factory oil.
I’ve had mine for a few years. I’ve replaced quite a bit on it. Recommend a ALG ACT trigger for it. Running mine with a YHM QD muzzle brake and turbo T2 can. Still need to freefloat it though.
I bought my mp15 when they were still doing the 5r rifling and melonite coating. I love it. Runs like a champ. Probably 2k rounds through it. And the good thing about the mp15, it is mil spec so you pretty much have the entire aftermarket if you ever want to swap out parts.
@Chia-Chun Hsu They switched it to their own proprietary coating that they're calling "Armornite" coating, which is essentially a hardened nitride finish.
This is a great AR regardless of the price point. This AR is based on the Colt Model 733. That rifle is an old, sound design that was used by the 75th Ranger Regiment and assorted special forces group for a few decades. Many former operators still swear by that setup. The modular AR system in particular with a stand alone gas block did go through some birthing issues. Accessories arent hard to find for this rifle and replacement parts are easy to find. Dont be afraid to pull the trigger on this rifle
Thanks for the video. I have the same rifle and pretty much the same upgrades. Magpul Stock, Grip and Foregrip. @@dennisreynolds6915 I ran mine stock besides a bolt on grab handle and new furniture for a little while but to squeeze a little more performance out of it I put a giessele super 42 h2 buffer in, a JP industries enhanced bcg and a rise armament LE 145 4.5lb single stage trigger in it. If anyone is wondering the KAC M4 RAS doesn't fit this rifle because the barrel profile is to large by the end cap fsp. I had to use the Midwest Industries Combat drop-in quad rail. Midwest Industries makes excellent rails, but the KAC locks on tighter and holds zero better. I was gonna make it into a Block 1 inspired rifle, but I already have three Colt 6920s and an AR15A4 I made into Block 1 clones and M16A4 clone do its fine. I did put a Matech rear buis, BCM Gunfighter charging handle, Colt H1 buffer, fde Ergo rail ladders, Microbest M16 profile BCG, and topped it off with an Aimpoint Pro. It looks just like a Block 1 and works very well. It initially had some feeding issues, but since I swapped the BCG and buffer, I haven't had any failures. This was my first AR15, and now, years later and 9 ARs and I still love it.
I have two of these. My brother has two. My nephew has one, and my other brother has one. We have nothing but positive things to say about these rifles.
@@dennisreynolds6915 Not according the Academy’s website. They range from $769 with no optics to $860 for the one I purchased. Where are you seeing them for $740? By the way, a democratic Congressman just announced that he is proposing a 1,000% excise tax on the sale of all AR type weapons. A $1,000 gun would cost $11,000 before sales tax.
Idk what the deal was but i got my S&W with a gas block with a built in picatinny rail instead of that front sight that i keep seeing on sport iis. Either way i decked my gun out with magpul furniture, sig sour red dot/magnifier combo, and a flashlight. Friggin awesome rifle
Your intro did not prepare me for your voice. Goodness. It's just plain soothing. Dare I say it pairs well with the concussive nature of a firearm round. Haha!
I just bought the optic ready version the other day. I live in Kali so we get the goofy version and I have to wait 10 days to get it. I paid 679.00 plus tax that's with $70.00 discount. I already bought Romeo 5 for my optic. I can't wait lol!
I bought the optic ready version also, but purchased it during the Obama gun scare, and paid $1,000 at Academy. Damn! But I haven't been disappointed. Many, many rounds fired, and not a single issue.
@@qcc5 I took it to the range a week ago and it was awesome gun! love it. I zero the optic 25 yards to 100 yards. I was going 50 to 100 yards but due to strong winds they closed 50 yards. Looking forward for more range time.
New to ar's just got my 2nd ever and I got the m&p sport 2 not a fan of the handguard tho the a2 one isn't my style but I'm gonna buy a new one and everyone keeps saying a charging handle is a good idea so I guess that to. First I as told my only option was the get a low pro gas block and take the sight off replace it then get whatever handguard I want but that sounds complicated
I have mine for 5 years and have run about 2000 rounds through it. Not one misfire or fail to eject. I clean thoroughly every other trip from the range. She likes to run wet. Not particular preference of what ammo I feed her. You can spend a lot more for an AR 15, buy why would you?
Shot this ar for the first time last week and ran it on brass fine but when I used tula steel case for a good 50-70 rounds it ended up getting a potentially live round stuck in the chamber. Was more likely a dud tula round though rather than the rifle itself. Primer just didnt go off after trigger pull. Avoid 223 tula haha. Looking it up online for what tends to get stuck in ar chambers its usually tula 223. Not to say other tula calibers are bad though, but id avoid 223.
@Bravo Six Indeed tula is the bottom of the barrel for sure in all calibers in my book. Will say after my failure at 50-70 rounds I've now gone through about 250 more since then so far no more failures. I did lightly coat each round with some oil just in case it may (or may not) help it getting stuck in the chamber. So far its 1 out of 300, but thats not enough for me to be confident in it. Got about 50 left, and likely wont go buying tula 223 unless its truly dirty cheap for 223. That said I couldn't help myself and just got 1000rs of 7.62x39 since it was .27 a per round. Haha lets see how well these do in a sks.
I own this gun and the Springfield Saint! If you can find a Springfield for the same price which you can if you look, I highly recommend the Springfield. It comes with all BCM furniture, a nickel born trigger group. A full auto BCG Stamped by Springfield. And the S & W MP Sport2 doesn't even have a full auto bolt. So if you want to get a rare breed trigger you will be out a couple hundred dollars needing to get one of them. Also the Springfield has a mid length gas system which just allows for a bit smoother shooing. The price difference is normally $150, but you can find a good deal on a Saint for $800 on some websites, and I wouldn't think twice about getting it. You can also spend another $100 and get all metal furniture with their victor version. They are both great guns, but S&W pissed me off by giving me a neutered bolt. I don't need anyone playing mommy and daddy with me like Colt tries to do. I am happy CZ bought colt out, maybe we will see that daddy daycare shit vanish.
I've been looking into getting one and i like this review but after adding all those after market features is it really a review of this weapon off the shelf or a review of all his personal preferences on an AR? Honest question from novice gun owner.
Is that the original trigger you reviewed? It sounds like it's pretty reliable and feels decent out of the box. Which Holosun magnifier and red dot sight combo is that? Thanks for the review.
Zion ALL DAY. It’s the best sub $1000 rifle out there. Full length hand guard already installed along with many popular mods already done. Good barrel twist etc.
I think it’s only a drawback if it doesn’t fit your particular use. I think it is superior for 55-62 grain (remember the A1’s were 1:12!). Some folks disagree, but I’ve shot 69 and even 75 grain with no keyholing.
I got to ask because it bugs the crap out of me... My issued M16 has the typical trijicon rco and the front sight is always casting a shadow in the rco when I'm aiming. Does the S&W do the same with the front sight and an optic? I guess I should ask is it a common thing with every ar with a fixed front sight and optics?
Ive got my red dot co-witnessed with the irons. But if if I don’t want to see the FSP, I just leave the rear backup sight folded down, and you can look through the red dot at such an angle that you don’t see the FSP.
@@TheArmedScotsman thanks. I really appreciate the reply. I also checked out your AR top 5 upgrade videos and some other AR videos. Looks like the Ruger 556 might be the way to go since it has the upgraded barrel but they all seem similar. What would be the next tier up from the models mentioned above? I understand the thought process of starting entry level and upgrading but is it worth it to potentially save up some extra money and go to that next tier in the long run? Thanks.

This was my first AR15, and now, years later and 9 ARs and I still love it.
Got one Today for 750$ with Two 30 round mags and a 65 round drum and i love it
I have 3 of these. They're awesome!
Thanks.for the video and upgrade suggestions. Im getting and M&P in the near future.
chEErs
Just picked one up yesterday. 449.00 with p-mag and S&W soft case that also holds 3 mags. Looking forward to getting out to the range.
Yeah it’s about 700 but I’m thinking of purchasing a demo for $550., I like the ARs that run both the .22 and 5.56
Where did you pick up your at?
@@George-nn8uiI purchased it from a local gun dealer here in Idaho
I payed 1200chf in Swiss for it 😄😵💫💸
I have two of these. My brother has two. My nephew has one, and my other brother has one. We have nothing but positive things to say about these rifles.
Helpful hint: Cut the tab off of your Hogue grip when installing on your M&P 15 Sport II.
@@joshreynolds7643 it looks like the tab is still on the hogue grip near the trigger guard. Instructions say to cut that off for rifles like M&P15.
Great video
For not too much more you can get a Larue match grade upper and psa lower. Unbelievable value if you’re willing to wait
I just picked one up at scheels for $779 and it comes with a crimson trace red/green dot optic
Just bought mine 😎
I just bought one and would like to find the same upgrades you have.
They are now $800-$860 depending on the model. I ordered one this week with the Magpul handguard and optic that was $859.99 at Academy.
Not bad...ive found Academy can be around $100-$125 more than your local gun store
I'm going to get mine for 740$ sounds like they taxed you. Doesn't matter tho you got a good one not a lemon.
They are currently $740
@@dennisreynolds6915 Not according the Academy’s website. They range from $769 with no optics to $860 for the one I purchased. Where are you seeing them for $740? By the way, a democratic Congressman just announced that he is proposing a 1,000% excise tax on the sale of all AR type weapons. A $1,000 gun would cost $11,000 before sales tax.
Just Got one for 500 new in box with 2 pmags and 120 rounds of 223
Great video. Bought one. What model holosun red dot is that?
the most practical firearm in production
Now I'm thinking of one...
I'm guessing you got it used? Sounds like the optics model that came with a cheap crimson trace red dot and a picatinny gas block for back up irons
Your intro did not prepare me for your voice. Goodness. It's just plain soothing. Dare I say it pairs well with the concussive nature of a firearm round. Haha!
:)
They run steel case just fine with the standard buffer
I just bought the optic ready version the other day. I live in Kali so we get the goofy version and I have to wait 10 days to get it. I paid 679.00 plus tax that's with $70.00 discount. I already bought Romeo 5 for my optic. I can't wait lol!
Good price!
3 years later and I found one for 650 😁🤘
knows his shit
got that same ar like 3yrs ago & never ever had any issues runs like it should paid like 550 for it
They're coming back down in price. They're great rifles!
I notice a lot of people remove the front irons if they have an aftermarket sight. Do you co witness with yours?
It’s 950$ for me, in Ohio, buts it’s on sale for 730$ rn
I have mine for 5 years and have run about 2000 rounds through it. Not one misfire or fail to eject. I clean thoroughly every other trip from the range. She likes to run wet. Not particular preference of what ammo I feed her. You can spend a lot more for an AR 15, buy why would you?
thanks
Can you list all your upgrades?
I’ve never had a problem with there 7.62 but then again those aks eat anything lol.
Thanks for the comment brother. It's between this and the saint for me. I'm going to grab the saint
I've been looking into getting one and i like this review but after adding all those after market features is it really a review of this weapon off the shelf or a review of all his personal preferences on an AR? Honest question from novice gun owner.
The furniture is only cosmetic. The heart of the gun is all Smith and Wesson. It's a very solid rifle.
I sure like mine... runs like a Swiss Watch.
you should list the attachments you got here
You should add a de-esser to your audio, the sibilance is pretty rough.
What red dot or holo would you guys reccomend? I have the standard back up sights
Yes. Buy one if you are able to.
Would love to see a video of aero precision ac15m vs sport 2
I'll see if I can get a hold of the Aero and do a video 👊
@@TheArmedScotsman thank you!
Is that the original trigger you reviewed? It sounds like it's pretty reliable and feels decent out of the box. Which Holosun magnifier and red dot sight combo is that? Thanks for the review.
Yeah it's the original trigger. Holosun 3x magnifier, I can't remember which model the Holosun red dot is though.
she eats the steel just fine
People who hate on the 15 are just mad they spend 3x more and doing the same thing
What is the stock number for this AR? And does it come with the carrying case?
I saw some older reviews like 5 plus years ago saying the trigger was spongey and not mil spec. I’m trying to decide between this and the IWI Zion 15.
Zion ALL DAY. It’s the best sub $1000 rifle out there. Full length hand guard already installed along with many popular mods already done. Good barrel twist etc.
Great video! Do you prefer Absolute or Lower One-Third Co-Witness Sights, and how is this AR set up? Thanks.
I like lower 1/3 co-witness personally.
@@TheArmedScotsman Thank you; I have high respect for your knowledge and opinion.
What part of the Ole Country you from? My Fam come from Glasgow. Thanks for the the Video👍
About 40 miles from Glasgow :)
In my opinion, all the entry level ARs are the same more or less. PSA, Smith & Wesson, Ruger... You can't really go wrong with any of them.
the biggest drawback on these is the 1:9 barrel twist rate. Dunno why S&W refuse to use 1:8 or 1:7 barrels in these.
Same but for 500 I couldn’t say no
@@jsteez7656
Hey man me either back in 2015. But now? Even cheap BCA’s PSA’s, and others are all 1:7 around that price range.
I think it’s only a drawback if it doesn’t fit your particular use. I think it is superior for 55-62 grain (remember the A1’s were 1:12!). Some folks disagree, but I’ve shot 69 and even 75 grain with no keyholing.
What kind of sling is that?
I got to ask because it bugs the crap out of me... My issued M16 has the typical trijicon rco and the front sight is always casting a shadow in the rco when I'm aiming. Does the S&W do the same with the front sight and an optic? I guess I should ask is it a common thing with every ar with a fixed front sight and optics?
Ive got my red dot co-witnessed with the irons. But if if I don’t want to see the FSP, I just leave the rear backup sight folded down, and you can look through the red dot at such an angle that you don’t see the FSP.
Best price I found is 820 with iron sites and 890 with red dot.
Can you buy a 5r rifling bolt carrier as a spar?
Looking at getting my first AR15. Would this recommend the S&W, Ruger 556 or a PSA? They look to all be around that $900 or less range. Thanks.
Honestly all good options you can't go wrong with either! I personally like a free float handguard .
Thanks.
My wifes mp shoots tula steel just fine. If it can't handle steel it doesn't deserve brass
Is the magpul mil spec? I just bought mp15 sport 2 so want to make sure I get the right one (vs commercial)! Thank you.
Yeah mil spec
Haitch 2 buffer…where can I get one?
Ask some questions it is the same with 15 22lr?
