  • This video series will chronicle the steps of a DIY conversion of an inboard/outboard gas engine to an electric drive on a 24 ft Limestone Express Cruiser expecting to trade speed, power, noise, smell and associated maintenance of a typical gas engine for a gentle cruising speed, low maintenance, quiet riding pleasure craft.

Thanks. More to come! Probably 20 or so for the first season up to the time we get launched and running. second season will be about fine tuning the system to improve efficiency.

Thanks for taking us on your journey. You are setting a course that many will follow. If possible could we have some details around the technical specifications, in particular the motor and batteries and why you chose these particular models? Did you design the installation yourself or have you adapted an existing plan. Thanks again.

Scott Masterson of Stealth Electric www.stealthelectricoutboards.com, had done a similar conversion of an i/o a few years back and did several videos. I found him on the website plugboats.com (a terrific resource) and figured what the hey I would give him a call. I outlined what I had for a boat and he provided the specs and design for the system. I felt going with one supplier would give me a shorter lead up window to launch.

Where did you get the conversion parts? Specifically the coupling from the motor to the outdrive.

In my case it came with the whole conversion package for my omc 5.7L system but if you google “omc engine coupling “ you will find a number of sources from engine part suppliers. It needs to match the manufacturer (omc, mercury, Volvo etc…) of your Outdrive unit so that it will accept the spindle arm of the outdrive.coming through the bell housing. 3:22

I have an OMC Cobra and have been looking all over for a conversion kit with no luck. Can you tell me where you ordered yours from.

Hi Eric, my system came from Scott Masterson of Stealth Electronic. If you look at an earlier reply from a couple of months ago, I gave his description and website.
