Awesome review as always. I got this guy a couple days ago and it really impressed me. I was preparing myself for one of those transformations from hell, but as it turned out... Saltus's transformation is simple and very enjoyable. I can say now that I found my Springer and can sratch that one from my "to get" list. Very happy with this guy. Oh... my favorite part of the video? Your little girl's cameo. That was adorable. Thanks again for another unbiased review. 👍👍👍
Sure, I'd watch a VS on the Springers. These two mold would be a great comparison.

I’m still up in the air. I like the way this looks. Very clean. Standing right next to Apache it’s hard to see which I prefer. I think a VERSUS VIDEO would really help.
I'm leaning more towards Ocular Max Saltus for my Springer as I got and really like their Arcee, but a great comparison video would certainly help. You can doooooo iiiiiit!
Gr8 Review Mr.Bubbeh and a pretty good looking Springer IMO. My only Nitpick is your Symbiote Thumb lol.
The side green flaps are actually supposed to be double folded in alt mode. They will then be pretty easy to get out.

Unique toys Springer is best hands down. Surprisingly underrated. My fav character. Only other one I’m looking at is xtransbots.
This is definitely a mixed bag. Would love to see a VS episodes, but with Fans Toys vs Ocular Max vs Open & Play.

18:00 - how does a mid-thigh cut make it cleaner than when the thigh swivel is integrated into the hips and doesn't break the sculpt at all?
if it is built AROUND the universal, it is seamless

Get that VS underway should be a goodone! These companies are improving so much. It's no loner Takara , and Fanstoys ,and everyone else. Competition makes everyone try harder.
Definitely curious for a versus video FT/MMC. Weak knees, crappy fingers, no V-taper torso, & stubby feet but nicer brighter paint and a cool weapon, vs Fans Toys.
The feet do extend a bit.
The joints in the index fingers are a bit of a bummer, but probably not a huge deal. I honestly don't care if the rest of the fingers can do more than just open and close, and I think everyone should adopt easy-to-swap hands. (i.e. don't require loosening more than one or two screws)
I'm pretty sure the Fans Toys version has its own issues and flaws, though it likely comes down to subjective opinion how easy the flaws are to forgive on any take on Springer so far.

Along similar lines would.you be willing to do an mp optimus head sculpt comparison video? I know windcharger did one a few months ago but I'd be interested on your take on what about these designs really attracts or detracts. Head sculpts can sometimes make or break depending on the character I mean TE has really become popular since they ko'ed mp44 head. Does that cross the line of third party? Thx for the fine videos as always!

Yes. A VS would be great. Even though the car mode is the furthest from the source material, I gotta say, I actually like the design of that car more than I do the original cartoon design. I mean, c'mon, who doesn't appreciate a little thickness on the backside?

The wide backside of the car-mode is maybe not quite accurate, but I have to say, that's the best looking springer car-mode I saw (well, the cartoon looked good to my kid eyes, and the G1 toy was/is it's own thing I loved :). That helicopter looks great; I do agree his robot got the look of one of those 'massive' guys that have a barrel waist - it sort of fits the character I guess, but not super looking to me either. Still, most of it looks really good and well done. Might be their best piece since a long while yet.

I'm all up for a VS between FT and MMC. Also, normally I'm a toon-design guy, but Springer is one of those times I just have to go with what I feel looks aesthetically better, in this case having the shoulders alligned vertically rather than horizontally or diagonally. But of course taste is subjective, so it's nice MMC gives you options.

It looks like there are forearm pop-up lasers as seen in the movie, where Springer's first line is "We're outnumbered!"

My perfect figure is a combo of this and FT’s. Now that the ingredients are out , I hope Takara just re-engineers these to be what he’s supposed to look like.
Three different shades of green... hmm. The army green around the stomach/flanks look a bit odd sitting next to the bright green of the chest. It's not as obnoxious in car mode, though it does look a bit odd having a different colour just behind the wheel well as the section over it. There's also some subtle variations between the plastic and painted diecast, which maybe shows up on camera but isn't as noticeable in hand?
The painted yellow on the chest does look a quite different shade than the pauldrons, though.
Want a versus. Let's say Fanstoys never announced/released their version. If you had this version on you shelf and then Fanstoys released their version, would you swap them or is the MMC just fine for you.

I'd be willing to accept that this was the best representation of Springer. It's certainly the one that is most 'for me'.
Bottom line, though, I regret buying five out of my six MMC figures so I'm done giving them my money.

Maybe they added the spear to make sure that you'd have a poking stick for getting those flaps out.
I'd love to see a FT vs MMC video. IMO FT takes the crown in terms of what I want with my toy, but I do think that MMCs turned out well.

For this specific figure I think this fits more of the springer character where the fans toys is like a buff super hero version lol which is cool either way. I got both and prefer MMC with my movie shelf and the FT as a stand alone piece!

The lack of abdomen! That's it! I knew something bugged me, but I just couldn't pick it out. The big black (so to speak) elbow joints really take me out of it too. I already have FT's and the UT Allen, so even though I'm a fan of Springer, I don't think I'll get this. Props on the posability to MMC though. Would definitely like a vs. video anyway to be sure!

Nice review. This is the one I own for my version of Springer, and I was incredibly impressed when I finally got a hold of him. That said, I am a bit torn. He does some things incredibly well like the transformation, articulation, and I think his Vehicle and Helicopter mode are the best out of all the releases. BUT, when it comes to shelf presence in Bot Mode, I feel he falls a bit short compared to Apache. I think Apache wins in the Chest, Shoulder, Abdomen areas, and I prefer the more angular lines of Apache. But, I prefer the arms and legs of Saltus, they are far cleaner and the wheels are hidden completely.
Had MMC done a bit more work on the sculpting and lines of the chest and abdomen Saltus would be my clear favorite... Honestly my biggest issue with the FT mode, aside from his "automobile" mode, is those legs. I can't stand that yellow piece jetting out the back of his legs. But, in that side by side and even with that issue, I think I have to give the edge to Apache. So I think I'll have to buy Apache, then display this guy in his Helicopter mode. I'll just paint that yellow leg piece grey for my Apache.
O max is really stepping up. Much better poseability then the FT hoodlum. I'm excited about their Assaultus (bruticus). Versus episode is needed.
The car mode looks the best out of all the 3rd party Springers,at least to me. The lack of an ab section does look weird and that's also why MMC's not Vortex looks a bit off to me. I would like to see a vs video but with like all the 3rd party Springers,even Warbot Defender ha ha

I think it’s the best looking car mode actually. It’s the only masterpiece springer that actually looks somewhat like it should be on the ground. The rest all look like the helicopter with its tail section chopped off.

Could just be me - but I love it when his kids interrupt. Its cute as hell (But I have a 1 year old, and another on the way, so that shit is my life right now).
Can't wait to see the inevitable Fantoys comparison but i can't imagine the FT getting anything up on this guy other than the abdomen/chest being less boxy. Otherwise Saltus just looks way more fun to handle.

Wow. It was that bad for your purposes, eh? I went back and rewatched the videos on Open & Play "Big Spring" (that torso has that MP11 Seeker mold syndrome...that's a deal breaker, dunno how I missed seeing that), FansToys "Apache" (robot mode is amazing, but the transformation looks like it stinks), and Unique Toys "Allen" (I love the way both vehicle modes look, but that robot mode is fugly), and watched the video on Toyworld "Spanner" (fugly all around, but the transformation is pretty slick)...wow, that's a tough call. Seems like MMC may have just slid right in there and stole the crown. Has a balance of looks & transformation engineering. May have to get "Saltus" after all...especially when there's no telling when X-Transbots "Virtus" will ever arrive.
I guess that MP scale Springer battle is akin to the similar problem for CHUG collectors: for years, there was "Warbot Defender" by Fansproject (nice effort, but the design is kinda dated now like a lot of older Classics era figures)...then along came Hasbro's Generations Springer, both of Takara's repaints in Generations Springer & Legends Sprung (it's a nice mold, but it goes for the IDW look; it's not a bad thing, though), and now the upcoming Siege Springer (for the relatively G1 faithful look). They all have a certain charm, but the one for my collection is definitely the Hasbro Generations one.
I'd live to see the VS episode. Really dug the Hotrod one. I already have the Fanstoys version but, from what I've seen, I'm not sure I'd trade out for the Fanstoys if this guy had come out 1st.

I have to say it looks more fun to transform than the Fanstoys one...
Just to say, I have Saltus and it comes with the comic (?) style head attached (the one Bobby reviews on it in the video). Which is a bananas choice by MMC as it's a movie deco figure so should ship with the movie deco head attached! This looks infinitely better with the toon head on.
its the studio ox head, because all of their mp stuff is in the studio ox design, not the g1 design, thus ocular max :)
