*Note for those doing the Daily Entry Zap shown at the end of this video (the final demo): I forgot to point you you need to enter the word "today" for the Date property. That helps having it all ready for you when you arrive in Notion each day.
I'm finding so much value out of the Year Zero community. I have gotten a bit stuck here and there and there are so many people to help. I'm not a dumb person, but I'm not particularly "techy" and I'm learning so much from these videos and the community. I want the end result of a great system AND I want the satisfaction and confidence that comes with building it and I'm getting both.
Love the zapier automated idea.....I already created an excel spreadsheet and dragged every single day of the year over, and did a whole lot of formulas and extra stuff so mine are already created the moment I drag in new dates, lol. Just once a year, if I didn't already create the entries for the next five or more years for the system, lol. Once everything is set up, it only takes about five to ten minutes to create the new entries and paste them in. Still awesome. I can use this idea later, if there are certain things I want auto-filled. Thanks!
Hey August, I would love to see some of how you setup your other Dashboards in your Pillars. I know it may be tricky with personal content, just curious if you use the same layout for each Pillar. Like what you used for Mind Expansion.
Thanks for your videos August!. Recurring tasks is something that all task management applications do natively ... I don't understand how Notion doesn't have it :(
Mr. August, Thank You for the informative videos! Hello from Kazakhstan:) I have a question: which prerequisites I must to learn before to dive in Systems Thinking? What thematic books/articles to read for overall understanding of creating my own System? Would really appreciate for some advises in that field
No pre-requisites, dive in and start thinking/using these concepts. If you want to dive deeper, here are some good general books on the systems thinking: - "Thinking in Systems" by Donella Meadows - "Work the System" by Sam Carpenter - "The Systems View of Life: A Unifying Vision" by Fritjof Capra and Pier Luigi Luisi
If you receive a meeting invite in google calendar, will it also show up in Notion? If so, can you accept the invitation in Notion and it will show up in google calendar or not?
Great vid, August. Many thanks. I want to jump into the Zapier for automation, but I'm curious, do you know if there's a way to automatically update filters on a database? ie: dates in a filter?
Hi, August, greetings from Mexico. Maybe this question will be not aligned with the topic of the video but maybe will be useful for the community. If i want to include a budget in the project workspace, where i need to set the data base? This database will be set like a pipeline or a vault? I will apareciate your support, thank you. In other hand, thank you for your content too.
Do you need both the zap from the previous video and the above recurring (for the same calendar) or is the zap in this video to replace the zap from the previous?
Thanks, August! how would you go about using Google Calendar for Time Blocking now the API is out. I would assume you separate the calendars for time blocking to the events?
Yes, have one or more separate calendars (can have many under the same goal account) for time blocking. You can set up the event calendars to sync and the time blocking calendars not to. Good question!
How to let zapier transfer all my scheduled meeting from notion to google calendar in order to let google assistant be able to read them on the morning for me?
Is it necessary go through all this hassle instead of using readymade features from ClickUp software for task management? Some useful features like integration with Google Calendar, Outlook calendar. This is specifically developed for task management and it's free.
These are great videos, and I love using Notion. I've noticed very strange behavior over the past few days, which is frustrating. Some properties that have been previously deleted have been restored (no ... I didn't restore an earlier version), and an individual option for a "Select" property simply disappears, leaving a blank in every instance where that option was selected. When I recreate the option, all instances that previously had that option selected are restored. Very strange. Anyone else seeing this recently?
For many in the professional world we get a lot of automated calendar invites. Plus you can do more explicit time blocking ion a proper calendar app. but it is not essential, personal preference on it. Pros and cons to either approach.
@@JesseShauffer Will address that in the next video. I'm finding that while you can sync new tasks in Todoist, you cannot sync enough of Todoist with Notion to make it useable at this point, but I have another solution to add speed and offline quick-entreis to Notion. Coming wihin a week!
@@augustbradley The sole reason why I subscribe to Todoist is for having the option to quickly add entries in its Inbox. A Notion workaround will be great! I rather pay the $4 to Notion :)
Very helpful. Regarding the last imperfection - the inability to batch delete calendared items out of Notion's PPV action list, I have a fix to the problem. Suppose you were so excited about August's video that before it was even done playing, you created a recurring event called "Testy Testerson." and then it repeated over 30 days and populated in both Google Calendar and Notion's action list. And then you delete that event and choose to apply that deletion to the first and all future events. And then you get to the part of August's video where he discussed the imperfection re batch deleting: On Google Calendar, the events all go away but on Notion the action list is still populated with items 2-30 even though item 1 was deleted. August says you can click on each one individually to get rid of them - time consuming for 30 or more items. Consider this solution: 1) batch delete in google calendar; and 2) in your notion action list search for the event name, such as "Testy Testerson" and then when the list pops up filtered for events containing just that term, just mark all 29 of them all done. The way August sets up many of his PPV templates, having an action item marked done will make them disappear from many lists. Just my two cents (and August next time don't bury the lede about batch deletes until the end of the video! ;-) ).
A quick question regarding the date property: the zap does not automatically add the actual "Date" to the database? So we can only add the "Date" via long text and not via the true date? Am I correct in thinking this is the case?
My dates are off by one day so I have to go in manually to change it to the current day in my Daily tracker. For example, the Date is actually August 18, but in Notion is shows the 17th. Any ideas why? I tried adjusting for the time zone property in Notion but that did not work.
@ Around 19:18 you see disgust for the first time... August's "some people select the filter to show yesterday and today, in case they forgot to complete anything in the previous day" [looks to camera - Disgust] - [Looks back at screen (fights urge to rant)] "Its up to you... [fighting for control (head tilt)] I like to keep things clean" Confession. I'm one of those people. Forgive me August for I have sinned.
No disgust at all! Nothing but respect for such smart intentional actions. I always thought that was a good idea, I did it myself for a while. All good ether way :)

Yea, exactly.
