As I move back into Notion to track and plan out my life, your videos have been immensely helpful for me. I look forward to going through more of your videos. Thank you!
Amazing content as always! I added a mirror block of the 'Not-to-do list' present in the Action Zone in this bullet planner template. I find it useful because otherwise i barely look at it
Wow, this is insanely valuable! Thank you so much for all the work you've put into this!!! Just finished the entire playlist at 1.5-2x speed. Next up: take notes on key videos & implement. I'm a Peak Performance coach and this systems approach is exactly what is needed for more poeple to reduce cognitive load and make better decisions!
Under "What would make today great?" I just created a database and gave both it and the Aa column the same name. Then added two checkbox columns plus a "What made today Great?" column. In the start of day, the "what would make today great" goes first, but at day's end it's the reverse. I had the checkbox columns, one for each part of the day--one asking if the ideal start goal was achieved, the second asking if the ending thing that made the day great ended up matching the ideal start goal. So I can see if they matched or what I was wrong on. When done, I just added the linked database to the end of day. No more scrolling / manual referencing. I filtered to view today and yesterday on both since I often cross days with my work and rest. I work nights anyway, so I have to have a double-day view. Love the vids!!!
I’m so grateful that I was able to find your videos early in life. Thank you so much for sharing your life changing knowledge! It would be amazing, and immensely useful for students like me, if you did a video on implementing school into your system. Since you went to one of the most difficult post secondary schools, it would be nice to see your perspective and how you would’ve organized yourself to be most efficient in school.
LOVE the video. Been looking forward to this, love it when I get a notification that a new August Bradley video is out! Going to be integrating this into my system ASAP. Wanted to share some quick thoughts about the improvements section in the daily tracker that you showed here. I know that tracking things like output are a bit difficult to do precisely, but I'm sure I'm not alone within this community of hyper-organizational people when I feel uncomfortable assigning a number that I know I've subjectively chosen. So I've got a little system of my own I've been experimenting with Basically I use a time tracker, but I am determined to keep it simple. At first I was trying to measure different "energy levels" of productivity, but now it is binary. Currently being productive or currently in leisure mode. I have one or the other timer going from the moment I wake up until the moment I either finish all my action items for the day or until I do my evening routine. This gives me a few measurable and objective data points that I can track over time: - Between when I wake up and when I finish all my tasks for the day, how low can I keep my leisure time? - How early in the day am I able to get everything done? - what is my total duration of productive time spent across the day / week? - etc. Just thought I'd share in case anyone else vibed with that line of thinking! :-) Thanks again August, this stuff is changing my life!!
A month or two, but there is an early access option if you want to start right away. Email us here for more info on early access: www.yearzero.io/contact
Hello dear August! Fantastic content, as usual! Just a little quick question: This process of Bullet Journalling, isn't it actually like the same process of the Cycles Review? So, couldn't the Bullet Journal actually be in the same group of the Cycles (database), on the Command Center? Thank you for all this amazing knowledge you share for the community. (Please) Keep creating. Keep doing your "magic"!
Another great video August! I have been using a daily tracker/planning inspired yours for more than half year (from your early videos where you introduced it while introducing other elements of the Life OS), and this, together with week, month, quarter and year , has been key to connect all the system's parts effectively (as in systems thinking)... In time I started customizing some things, the most noticeable is: I added a review/planning of my action/task items for the day also on this template (using a series of elements, namely the prios I set for the week and my calendar for the day). This has been very effective for me as it enables me to do this check on this daily routine (preferably end of the previous day, but also possible as part of the morning starting routine - have this as calendar views on both parts). Any reason/thinking for not having this explicitly in yours? (e.g. Keep this simple and have just a check on the daily tracker to do this on Action Zone) Keep up with the great work August, we really appreciate it!
Awesome work Eduardo, keep making things happen! Good thought about incorporating the evening planning for the next day, could certainly add that here. For me it’s so automatic I don’t even think about when or where to do it, I just do it. Your suggestion may help others. Good tip!
@@augustbradley I also try to do it whenever I need (added a similar calendar with active task at the bottom of action Zone), but on my day template I have a few interesting calendar and board views to quickly plan the day, setting prios, etc. It reinforces a certain good habit/routine.
Hello dear August! Amazing content, as usual. You're raising the bar too high and luckily trying to get all of us there! One tiny question about the filtering. For the template, we keep using "Today" for Action Items etc. though when we go back to see what we had on those days, wouldn't it be a clash of dates in those filters? To be more precise, if I open my daily tracking from 2 days ago to see what I did on that day, my Action Items would still be filtered on "Today", which won't be correct. See, I'm still building the template up so I couldn't try it on hands but wanted to ask you already since I believe this is going to be the case. Wishing you a nice day! Cheers, Erdi
Hey August, I love the structure I built so far, but what do I do when I start getting overwhelmed by my own system? I love the utility of everything you've compiled but I'm definitely looking for a Lite version of this lmao as of now I've shaved off portions to only what I can handle for now and hope to continue expanding but I just felt my first wave of not wanted to open notion this past week and am wondering if you have any advice in regards to this or if you have a video about this. Is it mindset? cause those are literally the only ones I haven't seen yet LOL
Nothing wrong with using parts and note using other parts. Take what works for you. To me, once in place, it simplifies my life. Building takes some effort though (hence the course to streamline that process). But it's not necessary to use it all.
Where do I put the skills I have in, in which database? pillars? or projects? or should there be an another db for "areas" of my life like for instance "drawing" or "trading" or "photoshop". Or should they be projects without a deadline. And also, you are a perfect teacher, i love every bit of your videos, Keep up!
Not sure what you mean by the skills you have”. If you mean research, learning, info and knowledge in those skills, then goad into the Knowledge Vault topic entries. If it’s a plan to build those skills through regular practice, then Habits & Routines DB. If it’s a project to build the skills, then Project DB. Hope that helps!
Idk if my system could help you, but i've integrated another database in the PPV system, which is called HUBS. These hubs are essentially your skills/studies/hobbies. In practice you create a new pillar which would be the larger category, for "drawing" could be "hobbies", for "biology" could be "study". In these pillars you lay out everything you need, so ideas, today to do list, ecc. But then you connect the specific hub to the pillar, so that in the STUDY pillar you'll have all of the subjects you're studying (university, high school, ecc), without losing stuff around. Same for drawing, in the HOBBIES pillar you'll connect the drawing hub, in which you'll lay out what you need, projects, goal outcomes, library, ideas, movies.
@@cescacentini that's a very good idea. However, i thought about putting them in the knowledge hub, so i can collect information from several media/books/courses for the skill/hobby. Or if it's something which should be praciticed in order to be maintained, than i would put it in the habits&routines db as well
@@oeztrkahmet I thought about it as well, but I found it very disorganized since not every topic in the knowledge lab would be needed in the same way. While the knowledge vault is mainly for research, the hubs are for action stuff
@@augustbradley Another Question about the weekly/monthly templates we created, where we mentioned/linked databases for example the "Pillar DB". We are copying the link to the database, and pasting it as a link to the word "pillar". But I cant paste the icons, but only the databases. How do you do it, if i may ask.. That's what i mean imgur.com/VDvjTUn
Have you ever read the book Overachievement? I design a great way to track quality performance and quantified performance at the same time on my diary. It's a fantastic book about this subject. I like so much your approach about your day. It's good to know there are people like me out there!
Hi August. Big fan of these videos. I was wondering if you could make an update on some of the things you've shown in the past, like the Action Zone, because I feel like it has changed a lot since the original video and to be honest I can't replicate most of it by the brief moments where it's shown in other videos. I know you've talked about an upcoming overview of the current system once it's finished, so would love to know if that's coming soon. Thanks beforehand, have a nice day!
I've done the overview video, here it is ua-cam.com/video/d93SGaf82OM/v-deo.html . The updated versions of each section are all available in the course ( www.yearzero.io/notion-course ), I can't go back and re-do each UA-cam video. But will keep expanding into new territory on UA-cam!
How do you calculate the percentage of schedule and tasks? Are you always assigning duration to tasks or schedules? How is your calculate methods on "% On-Schedule" and "% Output"
Hi August, I wanted to have your thought on the future universal fluid document of Microsoft Office that try to copy Notion and if you think about beta testing it on your channel in the future when available to show the workflow we can have with it ? :) BTW I love your work I have adapted it on Office365 👍
Do you have any articles or book that point to your point "The first 10% of how do anything will have a disproportionally large impact on the rest of the 90%."
Hi August, I have a question about how you can show checkbox in gallery view, if I choose the preview is page content, I only see the first sentences inside the page.
If you click on the 3 dots to get to the view options you can choose which properties should be shown on the card. So for the card preview choose "none" and then go to properties and choose the habits with the checkboxes :)
I'm wondering what happend. My routine is broken since I cannot improve notion anymore with Augusts amazing input. ;-) Looking daily and looking forward to new updates :)
I was curious about how you made that "progress bar" which visually represented your Progress in the daily tracking database, would love to know the formula.
Here you go for the progress bar formula: (prop("Habit %") >= 1) ? "✅ DONE" : (format(slice("██████████", 0, floor(prop("Habit %") * 10))) + format(slice("░░░░░░░░░░", 0, ceil(10 - prop("Habit %") * 10))) + " " + format(round(prop("Habit %") * 100)) + "%") ...drawing from "Habit %" formula which is based on the number of checkboxes for habit tracking.
August, very important question. Please Answer. How do you deal with the guilt of a very ineffective day, week or month? Lately my weekly effectiveness have been lower than 2, my days are all disrupted by things out of my control, how do you deal with the guilt of consistent ineffective and unproductive days?
@Daniel But the problem isn't that, it's the shame that comes with it, like in february I was so effective and productive, but march has been sooooo shit, especially with abusive parents abusing you even more
You need to keep it in perspective. It's normal to have bad days/weeks/months, and the guilt does not serve any valuable purpose (to the contrary). You have a clean slate each new day/week, and there's not reason each new one cannot be your best in years. Focus to making that happen. Let go of the past, commit to making it work in the next iteration (day/week/month). That perspective changes everything once you make the shift. But if you are not able to let go of the past you need to really study how your mid works, this is the practice of Vipassana meditation. Get Sam Harris' meditation app called Waking Up (has a monthly subscription but worth it). That will train you how to understand your mind and get a better perspective. Do the initial 28 day "course" in the app, and the "Theory" lessons. 10 to 20 minutes per day.
Hi Shaun, here is it... if(empty(prop("Awake Time (Calculated)")), toNumber(""), 12 - prop("Sleep Start Time (Calculated)") + prop("Awake Time (Calculated)"))

You should follow all the videos and build it on your own. It took me 2-3 days of binge watching but it helped me understand how the system works and get better at Notion in general. I was able to build new systems on top of this "PPV" system which I find super valuable
Thank you for your answer. How long (hours spend) did the rebuilding process take you? I dont have that much time and i need a system to organize my work and my live :D. Do you think it is possible to use this system with a team? I dont have that much Projects, but a lot of clients and i am wondering if i could have more than one data base for work "projects" and personal "Projects".
I like to have all projects in one place, be they for uni, my internship, it really helps with planning. You can of course further categorise them using tags specific to the project database, or as you said, do it all under a business workspace with its own databases, etc. There is no right answer, as it will depend on the way you use it. You just have to trial and error and see what works best (saves the most time/least manual input is "best" imo) for you To really implement it the way you want, it takes learning to use Notion and all its features. It's almost like learning a programming language. I therefore really recommend watching all his videos and replicate the system the way he has it, and then start making big changes/taking out shit you don't need
@@BediGamer Hi, build PPV took me 19 days. I watched every single video (49 in total until now) it took time, but it's really worthy. If you don't have time, and you need a system right now I highly recommend you to create a simple one for now and start doing the PPV UA-cam course, then when you finish you can deliver all the data in your previous system to the new one. It is what I did.
Here you go for the progress bar formula: (prop("Habit %") >= 1) ? I wanted to post a separate comment about the sleep formulae I made which might suit certain people as you can input the times naturally in HH:MM format (including 24hr clock!): Inputs: Sleep, Wake Next Day (Both inputted like HH:MM, e.g. 22:30). Amazing work, as always August. To me, what makes your videos awesome, it's not so much Notion skills, but your unique hability to views things and organize them in a structured and easy way. However, if you allow me, I have a suggestion to make that would greatly improve your set up. You are using Today's filter, and with that, when you go back let's say, a few days, to review what you've done, all those linked databases will be showing info for the current day, not the original day. And I know why you're using today' filter. Because you can't create a self relation and use the own entry name on the template right? Well, been there, done that, and I've come up with a workaround that has solved this and greatly improved my set up. Now, I can go back months ago and see exactly what I've done on that day, or when have I done something. What you do is you pre populate the daily tracking database with all days. (Red Gregory has a great video with a tip to do the all year in a matter of minutes using a spreadsheet and some simple but clever formulas to enter all the days). Then you'll create a relation column and set up to relate to the same database, and on this column, you relate the day, with the same day (Feb, 1 -> Feb, 1). And that's it. Now you can use the self relation filter on the linked databases to show the day you're in using that relation column you've created that points for the same day :) Hope you find that useful, cheers and keep up the awesome work.
Alberto, what a cliff-hanger! I was on the edge of my seat read for the suggestion when the sentence just ended and nothing followed :) Would love to hear it all completed.
August, I don’t understand. I’ve explained my suggestion, on the comment. :) Perhaps, you need a little more detail to catch what I mean, because it is kind off confusing to understand on start. Mail me on ajazevedo@me.com and I'll try to explain it better. I can even share a template with you of the database I've built for me.
@@AlbertoJAzevedo Awesome tip, i've been struggling with this. I tried the workaround you suggested but unfortunately i can't grasp all the steps to do it right. I've already filled the database with all the days like Red Gregory, and i have done the internal relation and it worked but what bothers me is that everyday i open a new day page, i have to choose the day in the relation property , isn't it should be prefilled somehow or this is not possible? Can you say it in more detail, please? Thanks in advance.
@@AlbertoJAzevedo Ah, the comment viewer in UA-cam’s control panel cut it off. Great thought. Lots of up front work but perhaps worth it. Personally, I never feel the need to go back and review activities for the day in these daily tracking pages. The value for me is rolling it up to weeks and months where I can see trends and patterns. But this is a thoughtful approach you suggested!
I'm giving a wide range of examples here, just do a small/simple set that makes sense for your personal needs. Everyone's needs and desires are different here, it is totally customizeable and can be very minimal. Do just a few check-box habit trackers if you wish.
Ay August, can you interview Kothari again? And can you roast him for not releasing the API yet, ofcourse as a joke lol. Us notion geeks waiting for the API is like when the Gamers waited for Cyberpunk 2077, I just hope notion doesn't f up the API like how CD Projekt Red F'ed up Cyberpunk 2077.
They are different colors, and I have several of each. Minimalism at it's best (no collars even :) ). Focus decision making on things that matter, create routines and systems for things that don't need to waste energy on (like picking from a wide array of shirts, wasted energy).
@@Enacaus To differentiate from another channel I plan to start and share what this channel is about. Do you see the longer name as a problem? I didn't think it would matter.
@@augustbradley The longer name isn't a problem, the problem is that you are taking a name which is not fit for this channel. NGL, you could have just shortened it to Notion PPV, or PPV LifeOS, if it is true that you are making a new channel. And tbh I am sure many people won't mind the name change, but personally as a 7 month old fan, I think the name you put "August Bradley - Life Operating System" doesn't match the channel and is kinda annoying to type in search. And think about everyone who has your channel in their TSS Vaults, we all have to now change a short concise name to this long one. I hope you understand and change it to something shorter like PPV LifeOS or PPV Notion.
@@Enacaus Interesting, I had no idea it would affect anyone. I don't want it to cause problems for people. Though I'm not clear on how it would affect anyone, the URL for the channel does not change ( ua-cam.com/users/augustbradley ), and you can title it anything you want in the TSS Vault. If you just Type "August Bradley" any search still finds it same as before. As for being fit for the channel, in what way is it not fit? The channel is about developing a Life Operating system. Are you suggesting Life OS is too narrow or too broad of a title for the channel? Thinking this through, I appreciate your feedback.
I must be a little dense... I've tried using the formula you posted for the progress bar, but can't figure out how to reference the individual field check boxes. I can only get it to reference one field at a time. What am I missing?

LOVE the video. Been looking forward to this, love it when I get a notification that a new August Bradley video is out!
Going to be integrating this into my system ASAP. Wanted to share some quick thoughts about the improvements section in the daily tracker that you showed here. I know that tracking things like output are a bit difficult to do precisely, but I'm sure I'm not alone within this community of hyper-organizational people when I feel uncomfortable assigning a number that I know I've subjectively chosen. So I've got a little system of my own I've been experimenting with
Basically I use a time tracker, but I am determined to keep it simple. At first I was trying to measure different "energy levels" of productivity, but now it is binary. Currently being productive or currently in leisure mode. I have one or the other timer going from the moment I wake up until the moment I either finish all my action items for the day or until I do my evening routine. This gives me a few measurable and objective data points that I can track over time:
- Between when I wake up and when I finish all my tasks for the day, how low can I keep my leisure time?
- How early in the day am I able to get everything done?
- what is my total duration of productive time spent across the day / week?
- etc.
Just thought I'd share in case anyone else vibed with that line of thinking! :-) Thanks again August, this stuff is changing my life!!
Best in the class. August will go out as a guru on life systems.
Thanks a lot August, another great topic and ways to simplify.

Great!! Have been looking forward for this! Thank you so much for the hard work you put in these videos :-)
It is amazing. So valuable! Thank you August!
Just in time for my personal needs with setting up the Notion system. Thank you!

Thanks August.
(e.g. Keep this simple and have just a check on the daily tracker to do this on Action Zone)
Keep up with the great work August, we really appreciate it!
Cheers,
Erdi
You would access past dates using a different filtered view. Just create a separate view for past dates yo wish to see, hope that helps!
Hey August do you have the formulas available for the habit progress bar and the work time averages?

I was curious about how you made that "progress bar" which visually represented your Progress in the daily tracking database, would love to know the formula.

August, very important question.
Please Answer.
How do you deal with the guilt of a very ineffective day, week or month? Lately my weekly effectiveness have been lower than 2, my days are all disrupted by things out of my control, how do you deal with the guilt of consistent ineffective and unproductive days?
@Daniel
But the problem isn't that, it's the shame that comes with it, like in february I was so effective and productive, but march has been sooooo shit, especially with abusive parents abusing you even more
You need to keep it in perspective.

Do you guys build the system on your own, or do you use templates? I am new and it is so overwhelming and i dont know how to start. Can you help me?
You just have to trial and error and see what works best (saves the most time/least manual input is "best" imo) for you
To really implement it the way you want, it takes learning to use Notion and all its features.
It is what I did.
how do you hide the properties above morning startup so that only a few show? mine appears as an entire list
Yes in the video I show you how to hide them. Right click on the property's six dot handle for that feature.

I wanted to post a separate comment about the sleep formulae I made which might suit certain people as you can input the times naturally in HH:MM format (including 24hr clock!):
Inputs: Sleep, Wake Next Day (Both inputted like HH:MM, e.g. 22:30).
Outputs: Sleep Time (Hr) or Sleep Time (Min)
Formulae:
Sleep Time (Hrs): if(toNumber(slice(prop("Sleep"), 0, 2)) < toNumber(slice(prop("Wake Next Day"), 0, 2)), floor(100 * 1 / 60 * (prop("WTV") - prop("STV"))) / 100, floor(100 * (1 / 60 * (60 - toNumber(slice(prop("Sleep"), 3, 6))) + 24 - (1 + toNumber(slice(prop("Sleep"), 0, 2))) + toNumber(slice(prop("Wake Next Day"), 0, 2)) + toNumber(slice(prop("Wake Next Day"), 3, 6)) / 60)) / 100)
Sleep Time (Min): if(toNumber(slice(prop("Sleep"), 0, 2)) < toNumber(slice(prop("Wake Next Day"), 0, 2)), prop("WTV") - prop("STV"), 60 - toNumber(slice(prop("Sleep"), 3, 6)) + 60 * (24 - (1 + toNumber(slice(prop("Sleep"), 0, 2)))) + 60 * toNumber(slice(prop("Wake Next Day"), 0, 2)) + toNumber(slice(prop("Wake Next Day"), 3, 6)))
If you like, you can even return the sleep time in HH:MM using the concat function, but I prefer the Hrs one as it's still useful but also compatible with rollup calculations.
What is prop("WTV"), prop("STV")
@@amanbhardwaj6030 prop("x") calls the proposition x, and the propositions WTV and STV are Wake Time Value and Sleep Time Value respectively. They are calculated automatically, parsed from the user's input. Essentially, STV is the minutes from midnight +ve for after 12am, -ve for before 12am and WTV is simply the minutes past midnight. The properties "Sleep" and "Wake Next Day" are text fields where the user inputs a 24-hr time like 11:45 for 11:45am or 23:45 for 11:45pm.
WTV: 60 * toNumber(slice(prop("Wake Next Day"), 0, 2)) + toNumber(slice(prop("Wake Next Day"), 3, 6))
STV: if(60 * toNumber(slice(prop("Sleep"), 0, 2)) + toNumber(slice(prop("Sleep"), 3, 6)) >= 720, 60 * toNumber(slice(prop("Sleep"), 0, 2)) + toNumber(slice(prop("Sleep"), 3, 6)) - 1440, 60 * toNumber(slice(prop("Sleep"), 0, 2)) + toNumber(slice(prop("Sleep"), 3, 6)))

Now you can use the self relation filter on the linked databases to show the day you're in using that relation column you've created that points for the same day :)
Hope you find that useful, cheers and keep up the awesome work.
This looks like an awesome layout! However, that's too much tracking, especially daily, that doesn't seem sustainable.
I'm giving a wide range of examples here, just do a small/simple set that makes sense for your personal needs. Everyone's needs and desires are different here, it is totally customizeable and can be very minimal. Do just a few check-box habit trackers if you wish.

@@Enacaus To differentiate from another channel I plan to start and share what this channel is about. Do you see the longer name as a problem? I didn't think it would matter.
@@augustbradley
The longer name isn't a problem, the problem is that you are taking a name which is not fit for this channel.
