I´m brazilian...I was ten years old when I first heard Neil Young (Massey Hall, 1971) ,,, I was paralyzed and my life changed ... until today his magic music takes my soul deep ... mainly for being so simple and so cool ... I've played my guitar, looking to reproduce some of his songs, and I see that it's impossible to do it ,,, there's a lot of magic in the touches ;;; so I just listen ... thanks Neil, for making my journey more beautiful and full of life ...
I saw Neil live for the first time in 1978. I had never cried before because of music being so beautiful. Tears shot out of my eyes and I was for ever touched. PEACE
I'm 52 year's old and the first real music I really appreciated was Neil Young and my very first album my older brother got it for me it was After The Gold Rush
yeah I'm a fan of the 'cortez jingle'...hope the south americans are'nt too offended by the composition....sorcery and the like back then and a bit today also...cool T.C...I used to like the pearl jam one but a bit 'hard core' for my tender 52year old ear's...haha?
The US has Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix, but Canada supersedes that by having them rolled into one. Following this man's musical journey has been one of the major pleasures of my life, and still is.
Aahhh very Jealous there Merton...im merely 39 and about 20 of those yrs listening to Neil. Always come back to Neil Young...good days ,bad days...hes got a tune...a feeling that comforts me deeply..love the man
I've heard so many versions of this song, but this one really touches something way down deep. It's epic, timeless, swirling out into the universe. It's imperfections make it perfect. This is the essence of Neil Young.
This is my favorite acoustic version of this song. And it is better than almost all versions of the electrical type, it also has the missing verses of this song. " The ship is breaking up..."

So true Marcos. There is a lot of magic in the touches. :) I love the Massey Hall album. It's fantastic. One of my favorite songs from that is There's a World, my least favorite track of Harvest. The version on Massey Hall gives me shivers, much like this version of Cortez. Yes, thanks Neil for sharing this magic with us.
Heard dozens of versions. All are different. All offer something different to you. For me this is his best song, and I know that’s a high bar. But acoustic or full band this song hits home every time. An absolute classic from someone without equal.
I have a list of four or five top musicians and they are all brilliant and unique in their way, but the more I hear him and the older I grow I realize that Neil is simply a genius and immensely gifted. Do not put off seeing him if you have the chance; he is still as good as he's ever been, but the sand is draining from the hourglass. A "hippie" from the '60s, he completely shatters that image with his unbelievable intelligence and vision for the future. If I ever had an alter-ego, he is the one. Thanks for sharing your gifts with us. Long May You Run!!
Neil Young is in my heart. Some say his guitar playing is off. Some say his voice is off. I enjoy his art. I have no heroes, but it would be nice to actually sit and talk with him.
+Sam Some people still think the world is flat what do they know..... my guitar playing is off but it don't sound anything like his.. heh heh the man is awesome.. a legend
Ditto... A true Original Icon, who never sold out to "The Machine" (as Pink Floyd aptly put it).. .10O% Unique in HIS own way. Would love to chat with him. Excellent musician & songwriter, whom nobody could EVER mimic!
I've always wanted to meet you so I can look into your eyes and thank you for helping me be STRONG when I was leaving the Orphanage at 17 1/2. You helped shape me into who I am today! THANK YOU!💜
I am from Brazil but lived in California for a few years back in the 80`s.Feel really fortunate that I got to see him twice in concert . The first was with Crazy horse and the second was just him with his acoustic guitar. He wrote so many beautiful songs , but Cortez is my favorite . Listen always in my car....
***** Uau....well done . How many hours did you take to come with such clever words .See you learn really fast , keep up with the good work . Pretty soon you will be writing a book.
This song touches my heart, with the notes and how Neil lets them ring out, and with his vocals it blows me away, I just discovered this song, it's beautiful.
What a great artist! Nobody uses the instruments, the guitar and voice, to wring the emotion out of the human soul the way Neil Young does. I love how he glides his voice into a sounding note on the guitar so they unite seamlessly. Also, the audience waited at the end for the last note to die and then a moment, just in case there was another, not to miss it. Very few performers have that kind of command of an audience's attention.
Exceptionally beautiful ❤️. Gives you goosebumps . So gentle. Thank you Neil for sharing your gift with such Beauty. Your guitar playing is impeccable. ❤❤❤
He continues to amaze me. This rendition is as good as it gets. I like the way he plays his songs differently all the time. This one is just incredible. Hope he keeps on living a long time.
What a remarkable take on his own song. I have literally listened to this version 20 times in a row and there's no sign that I'm going to stop any time soon.
just such a beautiful song, you can almost smell history being made as those ships were coming over the horizon, and boy does neil young capture moments in time, a man who always kept his music first
I’ve heard every version of Cortez and this is by far the one I like the best. I can feel the Aztec’s pain through his sound. Only Neil could’ve done it. Great song, sound and lyrics
Mr.Neil Young sing with a lot of passion all his notes, and I thank you Sir musician for given us peace into our hearts. I hope God give Fortaleza to be with us forever Grand Amigo.
And then there was Neil. And God said... "Let It Be So"..., And hence we are blessed, forever! We are all seeking that palace in the sun, such is heaven!
This one of my favourite Neil Young songs and I have just heard this version. Thanks for posting-brilliant! This guy is a legend he touches my heart-why can't I write tunes like this????
Conocí tu música antes de tu unión a C, S &Nash.......he deseado que pudieras caminar junto a Joni!!!....y amé tus canciones mi viejo!!!!. Soy argentino.....y simplemente te digo gracias hermano!!!!!.
Neil's ability to produce such a wonderful sound alone is one of the greatest proofs of his unique talent. He is really special and my favorite Vocalist/Guitarist combo - tied with David Gilmour in my book. Their styles contrast so much that I need not to decide which is better rather than love and appreciate them both. I love this song, wonderful melody, great lyrics, and its Neil fucking Young.
Neil is the master, i was at the first greendale show ever, it was i Palm Beach, it was amazing, but i wish we would have heard the second set, everyone wa too late in getting settled and you know neil dont like to play till people are in there seats, so all we heard after greendale was Powderfinger,Like a Hurricane, and Hey Hey My My .
Listened to this while driving home at 4 in the morning after a hard night out a few weeks ago. Driving west trying to beat the sun home on a deserted back road. Pulled into my driveway a few minutes before the sun came up.
Neil is the leading Soloist and Symbol of a pure Poet and Freedom of Thinking and Performance; * WE LOVE HIS SONGS - ALL * GREAT MAN * GREAT ARTIST * GREAT BEING *
This is the best bootleg ever recorded, and the best version of Cortez ever. Recorded at the Hamburg concert, I was at the Munich show, and still will envy you Hamburg people 'till the day I die. But we can say the best version of "Cortez The Killer" was played in that night in Hamburg.
Ye me to T C ....wirh you all way brother....just love it sublime...you must know "Inca Queen" too, and "An acoustic tale of Greendale"...some new lyrics in this for me man.."breaking up on the rocks...sandy beach ?.."
There's no musician that's ever been born that wouldn't take their hat off to this man.

I'm 52 year's old and the first real music I really appreciated was Neil Young and my very first album my older brother got it for me it was After The Gold Rush
hey clint...I saw neil in '84 western springs,auckland-new zealand....I was 17 and saved for the concert ticket...good times
Enough said about Neil,he is the greatest singer/writer/performer by far...
Best Version I have ever heard, and I've heard them all. Thank you Neil.
The "Almost Famous" version is also great
yeah I'm a fan of the 'cortez jingle'...hope the south americans are'nt too offended by the composition....sorcery and the like back then and a bit today also...cool T.C...I used to like the pearl jam one but a bit 'hard core' for my tender 52year old ear's...haha?
Safe to day im in good company here chaps..neil young, pearl jam !!!! 👍👍👍👍🙌🙌🙌
The US has Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix, but Canada supersedes that by having them rolled into one. Following this man's musical journey has been one of the major pleasures of my life, and still is.
I wish I could refute that statement, but I cannot... Pretty spot-on actually.
Neil is the greatest rock and roll player of all time! He never burns out, nor fades away!
Young is better than Dylan IMHO.

Agree. I practically wore out my first "Zuma" LP and bought another. This acoustic version is beautiful! Thanks for posting it!
This is my favorite acoustic version of this song. And it is better than almost all versions of the electrical type, it also has the missing verses of this song. " The ship is breaking up..."

You have him and his music in a nutshell - thank you Sean.
Neil is truest a legend in his own time.
Agreed. Grows on you with age and the older you get the more you realise that you are witnessing a genius at work.
Neil Young is the best songwriter/performer/rocker that ever lived. Happy birthday Neil!
the BEST: Songwriter
Performer
Rocker
The best all around musician that has ever lived. And that's an understatement!
And *Cowboy 😋🙋♂️🙋♂️
This is my absolute favorite version of this song ever. Hands down.
By far my favorite Neil song. And than after so many years to find this version. beautiful version. So pure.
one of the greatest song writers of our time..... this is merely a sample of his genius
Neil Young is in my heart. Some say his guitar playing is off. Some say his voice is off. I enjoy his art. I have no heroes, but it would be nice to actually sit and talk with him.
+Sam Some people still think the world is flat what do they know..... my guitar playing is off but it don't sound anything like his.. heh heh the man is awesome.. a legend
+Sam Farris I agree. Absolutly.
Amen....he is one of the VERY FEW Original Artists, who never "Sold Out" to Record Companies or Producer/Managers. A true Icon of pure heart & soul.

that is awesome.
The lyrics Work on so many different levels so many possible metaphors
Yes. Everyone has the unfortunate power to fuck up paradise. Not just Cortez.
I've always wanted to meet you so I can look into your eyes and thank you for helping me be STRONG when I was leaving the Orphanage at 17 1/2. You helped shape me into who I am today! THANK YOU!💜

Best guitar player to ever execute palm muting

clint zell absolute...he will
Now that Notorious RBG is gone, I will all my organs to Neil.
Neil, i'm so so glad that one day you took the right decision to sing. Makes our lives better. Thank you.
hits those bass notes right to the soul
His music helped me get through the sixties. Now I am in my sixties and can still find inspiration from this artist.
A rare talent. Epic songs, great player, haunting voice, and incredible sensitivity. One of the best ever.
Timeless, beautiful, that bass note gets me right in the soul, storytelling of a era of evil men, 82 0000 lost souls over what 5 days... unbelievable!
Yes! What a beautiful rendition!
This version is AMAZING. Neil was on fire that night! So many tasty little solos and fills. A masterpiece 💪
A simple story of a tragic past in a masters hands. Perfect Neil.
This guitar, this voice in the air, reminds me my father...
Been listening to Hurricane Neil for close on 50 years and can’t believe he never ceases to blow me away, what a killer!
Witnessed it live two times....both were simply mind-blowing. He is real....
Thank you for writing this magnificent song...
Brilliance in the lyrics and chordal arrangement.
I used to listen to this upload every morning 12 years ago, and I still enjoy this version out of any
This is music to my ears. Pure epic Neil Young, he nails it so perfectly. Thank you for sharing.
I’ve heard every version of Cortez and this is by far the one I like the best. I can feel the Aztec’s pain through his sound. Only Neil could’ve done it. Great song, sound and lyrics
Dal suo tocco vengono fuori note che sembra di veder brillare di luci e colori. Magico uomo e grande illusionista. Grazie Neil.
Mr.Neil Young sing with a lot of passion all his notes, and I thank you Sir musician for given us peace into our hearts. I hope God give Fortaleza to be with us forever Grand Amigo.

Brilliant performance.
We love you Uncle Neil 💜✨
And then there was Neil.

Just saw him in Chicago April 21. I can die a happy man now.
I love this! Have tickets to see him in Dallas this April. 2000 seat venue, Neil with his acoustic instruments - doesn't get much better.
Great recording! Love this acoustic version. Thanks for sharing this.
TEN minutes of an endless gift
*MAGNIFIQUE* merci beaucoup.
Is there an official release of this concert? Holy cow! It's incredible.
so much of his music is like the soundtrack to my life. This one brings back some bittersweet memories.

Excellent version ! Thanks !
Neil will be ever...Young!
perfect version of a perfect song.
It's so pleasant to hear a simple voice, as opposed to the vocal gymnastics required of American Idol contestants.
Unbelievable performance
found on Archive Pathfinder bootleg from 2003
Esa guitarra!!! Gracias Neil!!!
Interesting version. I like it very much.
the line about how or when i lost my way just kills me personally, because i did....
Tye Cook: We all have at one time or another...
We all have
Haven't we all.
what a sound!
Oh. He looks so pretty and sounds so delightful. Thank you.
Listened to this while driving home at 4 in the morning after a hard night out a few weeks ago. Driving west trying to beat the sun home on a deserted back road. Pulled into my driveway a few minutes before the sun came up.
Everything comes back to one human being. Everything.
waited a long time for Neil to age and play this
The LEGEND at work

Greatest song ever written bar none. It is still the anthem of our history and challenge as a species.
my favorite song ~ *sigh

La force de neil c est de jouer dans plusieurs versions ses titres selon son inspiration et c est a ce moment que l ont saisi son talent.
beautiful
12 string Martin tuned down 2 steps into double D.
He came dancing...
