This is a fantastic video. I spent the whole weekend looking for videos on this topic and this was perfect. My mower started right up after following these instructions. Thanks so much.
just did this today. thanks for the helpful video. one caution i'd add is that the rubber tip on my float valve fell off and i nearly lost it. wasn't exactly on real tight. i got it all back together, though and the mower starts and runs well now. it was really hard to start before. some people just replace that white cartridge, but it isn't too hard to clean, so it's worth taking apart and cleaning it.
These comments saying it helped someone both get the job done and saved money from taking it to a repair shop makes me feel good. Thank you for your feedback, please remember to subscribe so you remember who to look to for further help.
Thank you for the wonderful video. It really help me to solve my mower issue: choked and gradually stopped starting. I checked gas, replaced engine oil, none of them worked. I exactly followed this video procedure. It works. Even though the carburetor didn’t look dirty or clogged in the small hole, I did clean it by a needle. and carburetor cleaner. However one thing worth to be noticed that the mower didn’t start totally after I reinstalled the everything, but I easily started it after 24 hours. One big question here why this model mower has this issue, how can I prevent it in the future?
@@edwardhdwang not sure why it didn't start right away after cleaning, that's an odd one. As for why this model has this issue, that again I don't know. I personally had some that even after cleaning they still had problems so I would replace the jet. I bought jets on Amazon rather cheap.
Bought a set of four metering blocks on Amazon for eight bucks swapped out in about 10 minutes. You don’t need to take the carburetor off if you have nimble fingers just the four screws and the two bottom screws for the ball and yank out your metering block and swap it out.
Great video. I had trouble, however. I'm confident I did everything correctly... but I had fuel flooding the carburetor, filling th little cup behind the air filter, etc... which I stopped quickly with the vice grips. I mopped it up, etc. Now I'm stuck on what to do/try next.
Fixed it. I watched "Small Engine Guys" video titled " toro recycler smart stow carburetor repair. briggs and stratton 7.25 163 cc carb clean"... around the 9:25 mark, they talk about the float... and mine got all screwy while I was fiddling with the other stuff. I reseated it with the little needle pin in it's right spot and BINGO! Runnin' like a top. Thanks again.
If it's got gas running like that, the needle isn't seating properly. Check to make sure float and needle is not sticking. Verify rubber tip on needle isn't damaged.
I'm having trouble getting the bottom plate off. Your demo showed it coming off easily with a screwdriver. I'm afdraid of breaking it if too forceful. Do you have any suggestions. Also, what is the hex bolt at the bottom of the plate for?
@@rogerbernard6753 some do come off very hard. The hex bolt is for draining gas during off seasons. I had bottom cover come off effortlessly, others using screwdriver and prying hard.
Briggs must have the market with those carbs. I would bet there are 10's of millions of them on the market. I watched your video on changing them. I was able to change mine out with no problem. It was really was after watching your video. Not much to it at all. Paid 17 bucks for it on Amazon. It was even a n official Briggs. Thanks for the help!!

That mower is the biggest piece of junk I've ever owned,it's broken almost as much as it works, between cleaning that plastic carb, replacing the drive belt, that carb needs cleaned twice a season and yes there was a fuel filter placed to the supply line, the thing that gets me is it never looks dirty,my tank is spotless, only use 93 fuel and ethanol shield fuel stabilizer,I would also suggest removing the float there is a needle and seat under the float that should be cleaned also
@@lenclayton1100 some I just replace the jet instead of cleaning. Yeah doesn't take much to clog them. Plastic carbs are easier to work on. Majority of people I know don't have any issues with carburetor.

@@Synchrimedia if the rubber tip came off the float valve, I'd replace the valve so it doesn't cause gas to seep past and into crankcase.

FUCK PLASTIC CARBS!!! But god bless you, thanks for the video. I fixed mine but next time the plastic carb is going in the bin.
Nice thing about plastic carburetors is they don't require paper gaskets. Also much easier to clean.
